FBI Agent Who Helped Bust Max Hardcore Is Herself Busted For Shoplifting

An FBI agent in the anti-obscenity unit in Northern Virginia was charged earlier this month with shoplifting from an upscale department store at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax County, according to court records and police.
About 1:20 p.m. Nov. 10, Agent Tracy Fortin, 44, was spotted by a loss-prevention officer at Lord & Taylor allegedly walking out of the store with an article of clothing valued at less than $200, according to Officer Bud Walker, a Fairfax County police spokesman.

A Horse Question For Holly Randall

Cam writes me 11/29: "I read on your site that Holly has horses. Just out of curiosity what kind of riding does she do? Dressage or eventing? (I'm taking a guess it's one or the other since I read her mother is European)."
Holly replies: "Well eventing involves dressage, so both go hand in hand. I did 3-day eventing-- 1st day dressage, 2nd day cross-country jumping, 3rd day stadium jumping. I won the Preliminary Championships at Flintridge when I was 17 and quit the next day. My mother never forgave me."
Holly still does 3-day-eventing but we don't like to talk about that publicly.

I hear Jacques is on the outs with Harry Mohney. Harry believes Jacques skimmed money from some of Harry's people in New Orleans.
I'm told Jacques has a big mouth and family ties.

James DiGiorgio Remembers Bobby Gallagher
Back in the day, when I was shooting Sin City features, I sometimes hired Bobby (when he was available) to light my locations. Bobby was the kind of gaffer who would jump in, hold a "C-light" in one hand, a bounce-card in the other, and balance on an apple box on one foot. It wasn't really Bobby's job to do this. A grip is usually used. But that's how Bobby was: Always jumping in doing things he wasn't being paid or expected to do.
Some of you might remember that Bobby seemed to live, upstairs, at his studio. And it's true he spent an incredible amount of his time there. Running a stage is not a 9-5 job. Some of you might be surprised to know that Bobby did have an actual residence away from the stage and he was Ron Jeremy's roommate for quite a long time.
Nobody could turn their "headlights" on quite the way Bobby could. When Bobby gave you the "Bobby glare" you knew it and, if you had any brains, you quickly adopted a very respectful demeanor and inquired if there was a problem. Whether the steel plate in Bobby's shaved-head was a myth that he enjoyed going along with or was reality, I'm really not sure. But I do know he was a guy who could put a psychotic look on his face that said "tread warily." And, coupled with the "steel plate" thing, you never knew if Bobby was about to go psycho or he was putting you on.

This is not Holly’s official Hustler debut of course. In addition to her numerous shots that have been published in the magazine, she appeared in a photo at the ripe old age of (X months). Shortly after her mother gave birth to Holly, Hustler ran a photo of the pair in their “Bits & Pieces” column. The photo featured Suze shooting a layout with her infant daughter strapped to her chest in a sling and breastfeeding. The accompanying text, in typically classy Hustler style mentioned that Suze’s “newly swollen tits” were also making their debut and that Holly, little showoff that was “milked the shot” for all it was worth.
She has come a long way since that original shot ran, but Holly is still proud to associated with Hustler and proud to be carrying on the Randall family name so successfully.

The Animal finally caught up with Sal one night at Amici’s and Puggy who was with the Animal broke down because he could not hack it. I have told the story of how they obtained the money from Walter.
Mike still liked to associate with the guys after that time. I used to be with Jerry Zimmerman over at Mike’s place Visual Images. Jerry gave Sonny Franzese Mike’s number and Sonny called from prison to say he wanted to come out and play golf with Mike. Jerry Zimmerman would bring Jerry’s Deli over to Mike’s and Big Tony would come over and they would all eat. Mike came down to Culver City to meet us all one day before John Bronco went bad. LA Capo Louie Gelfuso was a frequent visitor and Mike even leased him a car. Mike gets along well with LA Boss Shakes Milano, I have seen them together. Mike even hits a few golf balls with Shakes. So what is Mike’s status with the LA Family? Mike is an earner, he does not cause trouble and he is in no way subversive. Mike is Shakes kind of guy!
Tina Marie's brother John Stallion [aka John Laolagi who hung out with independent record promoter Joe Isgro who was convicted of extortion circa 1992] organized the big Pornathon in 1989 for Mark Carriere. They shot about 60 porn movies in 30 days and all the talent got bad checks. It was organized by John, and Ben Silver the Israeli and Jerry Zimmerman. All the organizers got new cars. Carriere got all the masters and all the model releases and none of the talent got paid a dime.

Missing Mark Kramer At LFP Video
I'm not sure this division is any more organized and competent under Drew Rosenfeld than its chaotic past.
Kramer's biggest problem was drugs. His difficult East Coast confrontational style would've served him well if he'd stayed on the straight-and-narrow. But if you're going to set yourself up to clash with so many people, even if you are right, then you better be a priest. You better have nothing they can take you down for.
Kramer was no priest.
Drew is an accountant and a company man.
The most effective Flynt children are the women (either Theresa, Larry's daughter, or some of those who've married into the family).

I get to see as much porn as just about anybody in this business during my day to day operations running my company All Media Play and I think that the future looks very bright for LFP. VCA Pictures will continue to create new, engaging product and is in the excellent hands of Peter Reynolds and the new sales department at Hustler Video with David Diamond in the hot seat looks completely up to the task.
Drew has a much to do with the success that is coming to both labels along with the keen insight and execution of Tyler Goldman who is tough, fair minded and totally with a plan. I think the combination of both of those executives with an emerging Dustin Flynt and the main man Larry Flynt in total control will produce great things in the coming year and years for LFP.
Luke says: Dustin Flynt, a leader at LFP Video, is mercurial. He can go from charming to obnoxious. Either way, he's far easier to deal with than Larry's brother Jimmy. He'll stare out the window when he meets with you.
Dustin is purportedly Jimmy's son and Larry's nephew but he's treated inside the company like he is Larry's biological son, which he may well be as Larry was close with Jimmy's wife Bernice at the time of his conception.
This is one of those things purported to be an open secret yet should never be said.
Remembering the good times:
COVINGTON -- A nephew of Hustler publisher Larry Flynt faces drug charges after police found him asleep with an exotic dancer in a hotel parking lot.
As officers woke up Dustin Flynt, 23, they noticed a bong, used to smoke crack, in the car between Mr. Flynt and the woman asleep in the driver's seat. Searching him, police found a rock of crack cocaine in his pocket.
Mr. Flynt was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The woman, Stacy Donovan, 20, of Covington, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. The latter, police said, stemmed from her allegedly trying to stash the bong in the back seat so officers wouldn't see it.
Dustin Flynt has bright blue eyes and an engaging smile. He's more charm than brash. He's well-spoken and polite. He opens doors and pulls chairs out for women.
"I'm a gentleman. My mother raised me right," he says. "I don't treat women like my uncle treats them - like meat."
I first met Dustin in December of 1998 at Hustler Hollywood. I let him use my digital camera to take a few photos.

I believe Mark Hamilton left LFP early because it expected him to train Dustin Flynt. Mark said there was no way he was going to train Dustin, who has an influential position in LFP's video division but doesn't know what he's doing. Dustin rubs people the wrong way because he often acts like an arrogant schmuck.

Gene Ross reports on one of the least popular persons in the industry, Dustin (I could fill a column with stories from people who hate Dustin for being a cocky jerk):
Wankus: "I'm standing there in my booth- the KSEX little area. I'm standing there in the KSEX booth. It's my zone. This is my home right now. So he had to come into my booth to be in my booth. In my booth is Austyn Moore and her man; Tyler [Faith], the camera guy and me. This guy walks in cause he sees Austyn from outside- into the booth- and he says hi to Austyn which is cool, right? Austyn and her man reach a hand and point to me and said do you know Wankus from KSEX Radio. Then he [Flynt] saw Tyler and completely just pushed my hand out of the way and went over to her, and was like, yo, baby, what's up girl, and started like kissing up on her. Not kissing her but flirting like a dumb f---. So I'm being my wise ass self. As he's holding her, I'm like, hi, I'm Wankus. And he's still just totally tuning me out. Everybody was all uncomfortable. It was really weird."
Bobby Gallagher Died Two Weeks Ago
AVN had an article on it. Then they pulled it.
I call Rob Spallone. "He died on the train coming out here. He left for New York about five months ago, giving everything up. Then he was on the train coming out here, right before we shot the [Summer Haze] gangbang."
Bobby had brain cancer about ten years ago.
Rob: "Tell everybody to give their best wishes to Ron Sullivan (hpachard@sbcglobal.net). He's coming home today from the hospital. They operated on him Wednesday for ten-and-a-half hours.
"A couple of months ago, he went in for a check-up. They found cancer in his ass. They operated. They got it all. Then, about two weeks later, he went to the dentist for a root canal and they found cancer in his mouth."
Bobby Gallagher and I had a lot of good times together. He was always a big fan of my writing (as much as Holly Randall loves Air Supply).
I met Bobby March 22, 2001. He was furious that three years earlier, I'd published some minor item about him having Mafia ties.
Bobby was a short cocky angry man, a rooster.
Jim DiGiorgio tells Rob Spallone: "He [Luke] almost got f---ing killed before."
Rob: "And thanks to me, he didn't. That's the 50th time I've saved him."
Jim: "Bobby [Gallagher, owner of the stage where Jim and Rob shoot] was about to kill him."
Rob: "He asked me if he could."
Jim: "Bobby got that wild look in his eyes and everything."
Luke: "Did you straighten out the misunderstanding?"
Jim: "Doesn't mean he likes you. He'll tolerate you here today."
Jim and Rob smile maliciously.
Jim: "Bobby Gallagher is sitting here watching every word you say."
I turn around and there's Bobby giving me an evil stare.
Rob: "All I've got to do is go like this and it's over."
Bobby: "The thing is Jim, he's [Luke] sitting there smiling. He doesn't know that he could meet up with someone one day in a blind alley..."
I'd like to think that our relationship developed from this day to one of mutual respect, but I'd be deluding myself. Bobby always hated me.

And by the way, being a gaffer is not always such a low-paying position, especially on mainstream shoots which *this* Bobby G has gaffed many of. I'd also point out that running a small soundstage is often a 'loser' financially; not the kind of investment people who enjoy BIG returns on their money usually get into.

Northern European Countries Crack Down On Sex Work

It's an interesting footnote that the notoriously liberal governments of some Northern European countries are cracking down on the ready availability of porn and in various other ways attempting to recriminalize some aspects of sex work. In Sweden, for instance, while it's still legal to sell your services as a prostitute and you can't be arrested for doing so, it is now illegal to solicit the services of a prostitute and clients can be arrested.
So what gives? Well, it would seem that our old pals the anti-sex-work feminists have gotten a foothold in the political systems of some of Europe's most left-leaning countries and are doing their best to hammer the sex industry in all its forms as oppressive of women. Of some note to Green Party supporters over here should be the fact that European Greens are leading the charge against sex work over there. I recognize that there are great differences between the two parties of the same name on different continents, but I think those who lean Green over here might want to pay a bit more attention to their own party's attitudes and positions on sex work, since the European Greens often exert some influence over their confreres hear.
Whether or not attempts to suppress sex work in Europe will really get anywhere, I'm highly dubious. The industry is well established and quite out in the open in every European country and has its own advocates, both public and private. And as a matter of social custom, it is widely regarded as just another aspect of urban life and given little thought in daily affairs.
At the end of the day, sex work is and always will be everywhere, along with efforts to curtail or abolish it. Will any of this ever fundamentally change? Not if 13,000 years of human history can be considered precedent.

Why Did AVN Chose To Give Its Reuben Sturman Award To Rob Black?
Wasn't there anyone else in the industry more deserving? Rodger Jacobs points out that Russ Hampshire has never received it. Russ held the industry together during the 1990s and helped dozens of people when they were down and out.
After all, the industry's most powerful players hate Rob Black and refuse to financially help him with the federal obscenity prosecution. People like Russ Hampshire (former VCA owner) warned back in 1997 that his product would trigger federal prosecution of the industry.
So why did AVN give its award to Black? Not because of Black supporters such as AVN Editor Mike Ramone. No, because AVN President Paul Fishbein is close to a First Amendment absolutist and as this is the industry's highest profile case, Paul believes the industry must line up behind Black, however much porners dislike Rob personally.
Fishbein and his peers such as Paul Cambria and Steve Hirsch and Larry Flynt aren't in porn only for the money. They truly believe that they are defending the First Amendment and making America a better place. They believe as much in their mission as Christians believe in the return of Jesus and Jews believe in the coming of the Messiah. The Rob Black award makes sense only when you look at it through the eyes of faith.
I was inspired to write this by a conversation with Mike South, who says: "The Rob Black thing bugs me I thinks there's people who deserve it more. I don't think someone who tried to take the industry down with him should even be considered. Give it to Rob's dad Dominic at least. I mean thats who is financing this fiasco. I gotta think that Paul was trying so hard to be fair that he just couldn't see the real truth. Paul's trying not to let his disdain for Rob interfere and it blinded him. I can't imagine that Mark Kernes would be pleased with this either. Goddess commented to me, 'Hell why not give it to Gene Ross?' Paul is going to take heat for this and he should."
Gene's the one man Paul won't forgive (and vice versa). Gene ran the editorial side of AVN for over a decade until leaving for Rob Black's employ in September of 2000.
Between 1998-2003, Rob Black (and Gene Ross) were AVN's fiercest critics. They said that Fishbein was the corrupt head of a corrupt good-ol-boys network that monopolized and corrupted porn. Then, in 2004, former AVN Publisher and Editor Tim Connelly (a former friend of Black's) along with Fishbein reconciled with Black (Rob Black and his companies had been banned from AVN since the December 2000 issue).
I don't have a position on the Rob Black award and similar matters. I prefer to observe rather than advocate.

Sahara Knite Vs. Her Former Webmaster Joe A
I asked both sides about their falling out a few months ago. Sahara said she could not respond because of the advice of her lawyer.

In early 2003 a photographer friend of mine, knowing that I was always looking for new Indian models to shoot for UK Indian Girls introduced us via email/phone, as he had worked with her for his own site.
It took awhile for him to give her my number and by then she'd done a shoot which appeared in 3 editions of the UK magazine Asian Babes, including a front cover with her as the main model plus some other shoots.
I booked Sahara for a shoot and to give her credit, when she phoned the night before the first shoot to cancel due to female problems, she said that she still wanted to come over to meet me, which she did. I took a few pics anyway and even shot a short fun vid. We then re-arranged the shoot for the following weekend as she was still working for French Connection at the time.
After this shoot we became friends and she slowly gave up modelling apart from the odd shoot now and again. She was happy to come over to my place to stay for weekends and the odd night during the week as I lived near to her old office and would take her to work in the morning. She was happy just to sit and chill and watch the adult satellite channels... LOL. This was because we were just friends and nothing more, I must add, as this is a factual story unlike some that she has appeared in, in the press.
At about that time I made a small portfolio site for her, so that photographers could find her and I also set my pr head in action, contacting people I knew in the biz and of course adding her to a lot of on line model sites. As she was working full time in an office I would call her if a job offer came in the day and she'd tell me what to reply, in case by the time she got home the shoot had gone. At this time she only wanted to work up to art nude and maybe the odd solo/toys shoot. I can claim to be the first to get her to stick a finger up her arse which I'd shot when we did our first ever sets of pics and videos... LOL.
In April last year there was an industry party in London and a friend phoned me, asking if we wanted to go to it. As we were just sitting around that night watching tv, we said ok and went. I then introduced her to a few of my adult biz friends and of course she also introduced herself to many, and was very popular, which I'm sure you all understand.... LOL. The fun part was when a few of the producers asked her if she was in the biz to which she replied "no" and they were all surprised.
Around this time I took Sahara down to Brighton to do a few pics for Jim Dean, the organizer of the BAFIA show and awards, which were to promote both of these.
I also called my friend, glamour photographer John Mason about Sahara. He not only offered to do some pics for her portfolio free, but on the day he picked us up in central London, drove all the way to his studio in the middle of Kent to do this and then drove us back, as a favour for me. The next step was our trip to Brighton in May 2004 for the BAFIA Awards, which are the adult industry equivalent of the Oscars Again the same question was asked by many, including the famous Ben Dover. He saw us and came over, having a go at me for not finding him any Indians that would work with him... He took one look at Sahara and dived straight in. He received the same reply, that she wasn't a model. This was also the first time that she had a real fumble with a female, who happens to be the great Faye Rampton.
By the end of May 2004, after these parties, Sahara decided that she wanted to go in to modelling much more seriously and she decided to work up to girl/girl. We also decide to build a members site together, where there would be content that couldn't be found anywhere else. I built the site and we started doing shoots for it and of course my pr went in to overdrive, taking her to the Walpole model agency and having a link to her portfolio site and of course the still under construction pay site in my signature on every forum I posted on, to get her name known. In June 2004, we went for the big launch of her as Sahara the adult model. I gave a small dinner party for her, Terry (One Eyed Jack) Stephens, Faye Rampton and Sandie Caine. The job offers started to flow in as I was promoting her left right and centre and word also went round from Terry and others that a new star had been born, and being Indian meant that after a long time Anjali had a real rival in the UK. I gave myself a birthday party in Oct as the film crew wanted to know if those in the adult biz mixed socially after a shoot was over. This was filmed for the documentary and just after the party, Sahara and I fell out.
By the end of Oct 2004 she had shot her first full sex b/g scene with Lee Henshaw which Terry shot and it was also the first time she had full anal sex. The girl was on the move... Word got round the industry that we'd fallen out and one producer friend of mine was concerned about booking her as he didn't want to upset me, so as we were all at Erotica I dragged her over and told him it wasn't a problem... We made friends again for a short while between Jan and March and unfortunately we have fallen out again which has resulted in her making a few nasty public posts.
Another point is that during Jan my friend Michelle from Magik called me to ask if Sahara was prepared to do a magazine interview. This resulted in her being featured in Closer magazine and on to the big one in the Sun. There was of course the short story in The Sunday Sport as well.
Then in April this year the documentary was aired and there was little me for a few seconds with the on screen caption "Joe, Sahara's mentor and friend." [Earlier Luke link.] Funny how that was ignored in all the press coverage, but 1.8 million viewers watched the programme which will be a few more than read this little ramble, so I'm happy about that.
She has just returned from Prague where she shot here first dp, which Terry told me was a fantastic shoot and I'm sure she will go on to be a major porn star in the not too distant future, as she is also due to visit the States to work soon...

Billionaire Ruth Parasol Plays Her Cards Right in Online 'Gray Market'

[Ruth Parasol] worked briefly in a personal injury law practice before joining her father in a business that handled billing for phone-sex lines.
She became a fixture at adult-industry gatherings.
"When I was coming up in '98 and '99, I would see Ruth at all the trade shows and we would hang out," said Evan Horowitz, who heads an online porn network called XPays. "I remember her being very bubbly and happy and nice. I should have dated her."
In the 1990s, Parasol advised Seattle phone-sex entrepreneur Ian Eisenberg. He went on to mail fake "rebate" checks for $3.50 to millions of households. The fine print said that by cashing the checks, recipients agreed to pay as much as $29.95 a month for Internet service. The Federal Trade Commission sued and won an order for $17 million in reimbursement.
Parasol and an Eisenberg protege named Seth Warshavsky then invested millions of dollars in phone-porn companies that were sued by North Carolina and Nevada authorities for alleged improper billing and collection practices that included threatening to seize a person's property.
In North Carolina's case, a judge ordered a firm co-founded by Parasol to pay $270,000. The Nevada case was dropped after the company filed for bankruptcy protection.
In one of their ventures, Parasol and Warshavsky were part-owners of a 1-900 and long-distance operation called Starlink Communications. Starlink's former president, George Holland, said he met Parasol only twice.
Before their first meeting, he said, he assumed that any woman in the "99% male" phone-sex industry would be a crone. Instead, he found himself in the room with a quiet and extremely well-dressed young brunette.
As federal rules about phone calls became stricter, the companies went out of business. Warshavsky changed his approach to Web pornography.
By January 1996, Richard and Ricarda Parasol owned 49% of a holding company that funded Warshavsky's best-known venture, Internet Entertainment Group, which distributed a sex video made by actress Pamela Anderson and rocker Tommy Lee.
Ruth Parasol co-founded IEG, according to a person close to her, but Mendelsohn said she held stock in it only briefly.
Ruth's father and sister sued Warshavsky in June 1996, claiming he reneged on an agreement to buy out their share of the business. Ruth negotiated a settlement, according to the family's attorney in the case, Bradley Keller.
...Some who dealt with Warshavsky were less fortunate. In a later case, several former staffers accused him of routinely overbilling IEG customers. Facing large unpaid debts, Warshavsky eventually fled to Thailand. He could not be reached for comment.
...As the company [Starluck Casino which became iGlobalMedia which became Party Gaming] grew and prepared for its public offering, Parasol kept up her connections to porn specialists, including the controversial Yishai Habari, a major Internet traffic broker.
Habari was appreciated by porn publishers for paying handsomely when they referred Web surfers his way. From January to May this year, as PartyGaming was trying to build its share of the online poker market ahead of its IPO, Habari directed the company's successful Internet marketing program, which pays other websites to refer players.
About five years ago, though, Habari was directing traffic to porn websites that were part of a $650-million billing scam prosecutors described as the most profitable enterprise under the control of New York's Gambino crime family.
According to interviews with a dozen government officials, business partners and employees of the once wide-ranging operation, Habari sent people to porn websites that asked for credit card numbers — ostensibly to ensure that viewers were at least 18 — and then racked up bogus charges. Habari's company operated from the same floor as one of the Mafia fronts.
Federal prosecutors brought charges in 2003, and a mob captain, a soldier and four associates pleaded guilty in February. Habari was not named in the indictment. Parasol's spokesman said that when she suggested her old friend Habari for a top job at PartyGaming, she believed that Habari had been only "a consultant to a consulting firm that provided services" to the Gambino operation.
Habari did not respond to several requests for comment. He left PartyGaming in the spring.

Kenny had paid Big Chris over a million dollars to protect his pornography empire in New England. Big Chris was a Gambino Capo.
Bottom line is the LA Family is in sad shape. They can come back quick like that mold in your walls. The Sicilians could seize control or a qualified man could step up and take it into this new century. Denver has like five guys and they all are rich and do well.
Leah Luv Update
Its great to know that I am missed here. I feel special. The reason I havent really been around is because of what Hillary said and Gia said (working on my website and chasing my 3 year old around and working a whole lot) but also, it seems as though lately when I have been coming on here, no one was saying anything about me or responding to the posts about me, so I just quit coming on. I had fresh tests of the people I worked with faxed to me, and they were negative. As far as I know, there have been no HIV reported cases. Thanks for the messages of support over this. I thought it would be over with when I realised that the blog had been pulled, but the fact that it has been put on LukeIsBack.com has made me feel sick to my stomach. I made no secret of the fact that I was working in Italy on several message boards, and it is so obviously directed towards me. The upsetting thing is just that people who don't know me are going to read that and judge me on something that isn't even happening. Basically people, if you're working with someone over the next couple of weeks in Britain, ask her if she's travelled to Italy lately. However, since I didn't name her or have any proof, I pulled the story and then decided to pull the entire blog. I'm not interested in hurting anyone. I just wanted a warning out there. Since Isabel is apparently clear the info was obviously bogus and I'm glad I didn't name her.
But the blog is gone. it was never done maliciously, but it seems that when the fans get involved all kinds of crap gets thrown around. I'm not interested in that, I was concerned about the health implications. Just another case of the messenger getting it in the eye from someone he didn't even name! Seems that Isabel has enemies, but I'm definitely not one of them.

As someone who spent seven years in the XXX biz, I still don't understand people's [performers & fans alike] fascination with AVN - The magazine or their joke of an awards ceremony?
First of all, AVN (the magazine) is nothing more than a glorified promotional tool for adult companies to 'push' their product to retailers. As of late, this "rag" has even elimimated the majority of reviews they used to offer [something which originally made the magazine noteworthy to both retailers and fans] in order to make room for more advertising = $$$$$! And, speaking of advertising, the more ad space a company purchases the better chance they have of being nominated for, and eventually walking-away with, an AVN award <~ this has been proven in years past!
As for performers, are the girls (or guys) honestly thinking of their performance as "award-worthy" while having sex on camera?!! If so, that's a performance I [as a fan] would have no interest in watching. Are there female performers who believe, while on-set .. "Maybe if I take a few additional cocks up my ass, I'll walk away with an award come January?"! (this doesn't apply to Mila) lol
And what, honestly, is the notoriety that comes with receiving an AVN Award? Except for the production companies and directors who use their award as a promotional tool to retailers (and then place it on a shelf in their office and allow it to collect dust), for performers these awards are quickly deemed worthless!
It's obviously not at all like the mainstream film business, where a "prestigious" award affords you more and/or 'better' work. In the porn industry, if you're casted, show-up (not even on-time mostly), show a little 'energy' while having sex on-camera and remain up-to-date with your tests you'll continue to work .. As simple as that!
And besides "Fashionistas" [which most definitely deserved it's praise], are there any non-industry people who can, honestly, (off the top-of-their-head) remember award winners of years past?!! .. Or really 'care' about it one way or the other?!
If these awards were being presented and/or voted-upon strictly by fans of XXX, or perhaps unbiased "industry insiders", I could possibly understand the 'hype' and fascination (and potential benefit) of such an event; however, AVN, both the magazine and awards show, are strictly in this for the MONEY! Period (.)! Even their advertisers [their 'life's blood' financially] have to purchase seats and tables for the event. It's the same reason TV Guide produces their own awards show ... Cause they know they ain't the Emmys or Golden Globes! lol

Crowded, definitely. Someone told me there are over 100 categories in 2006, which I think is too many. I'm all for people being recognised in their chosen profession, but maybe it's time the video and film categories were unified. What's next? A separate category for HD, too?
Awards are always subjective, whether they're given out by a magazine whose decisions may or may not be affected by pressure from other departments, through to fan awards (is the XRCO still going?) were fans can place multiple votes to skew the awards.
Nothing's perfect.
However, having said that, without showcase events like the AVN Awards, the adult industry would still be seen as very seedy and underground. We need the mainstream media to cover events like AEE and the awards to show the professional, non-spunk stained side of adult; it's something they can cover and not really be able to sneer at. Unless they read out the categories on-air, of course!
Do the awards actually 'mean' anything? Probably not, but where else can you go to see a girl thank her mother after accepting an award for Best Anal scene? That's worth the ticket on its own.
The other issue is that this business is full of political back-stabbers, get rich quick merchants, wannabes and hangers-on. Everyone needs validation now and then, and the AVN Awards is as good a way as any of doing it. And I don't have a problem with the entire industry (which makes more money than Hollywood) giving itself a serious slap on the back once a year. I wouldn't miss it for the world. It's a beautiful circus full of fascinating creatures.
Now if someone could come up with awards for adult magazines...

Last year, I had 2 nominations. This year I don't. All that says to me is that my friends have nominations and I'm routing for them all the way! Sure many of the movies I've done are being nominated, but not me personally. Does this now mean that AVN is now a horrible organization with unfair policies? Certainly not. You can't argue that AVN is all politics, claiming that advertising exposure is proportionate to winnings. Think of all the companies with AVN awards that spent less on ad space than the larger companies.
Looks like I'll be partying with my friends and walking the red carpet graciously this January while you'll be at home watching Matlock and on the phone with a bucket of KFC.

Jenna took Best New Starlet 1996 after her big year with Wicked. AVN inducts people into the Hall of Fame after 10 years. Jenna will be officially in the Hall of Fame this coming year, even though we started about the same time. Both of us, as Jenna said, had done projects prior to the Sin City movies. Does that make sense? Not really, but I explained the best I could. Of course there are exceptions to the rule; Asia Carrera was inducted about 2 years ago and she started in 1994 as well. It's all very confusing.
