Although I also think asking how many positions is annoying and suggests a possible attitude, I did just conversationally asked the people who hired me (who I had never worked for before) out of curiosity how long the shoot would go, I got a friendly answer. No demands, no attitudes, no problem, everyone left happy.
The girls might be upset if it takes a long time to get a paycheck and taxes are taken out. My understanding is that we are independent contractors so that shouldn’t be the case. Also making demands which give no slack to possible legit excuses for being late, which sometimes happen, such as getting lost or traffic, seems a bit severe. They may also have a bitch attitude if they think they’re being treated like shit.
Also, if someone is hired for a specific job for a specific rate, that’s what they should be paid for.
I was booked once via text message to be in a Vouyer media blowbang, paying a spectacular $150 (the usual going rate). I was like, fuck it, not doing anything that day, I’ll do it. Weeks later I finally get a check and it was close to a $75 bukkake rate, after taxes were deducted.

When I called about the pay I was told it was a $100 “load dump”. Now even though I said I was booked for one thing, that’s what I agreed to show up for, that it’s on my phone’s text, it didn’t matter. When I shot a scene for Black Bottom Girls 5, I was told that if I “got through the scene” with Jack Napier I’d have the boxcover. First off Jack is a really cool guy who I’d have had no problem with working with ANYWAYS.
Well I never got a boxcover even though the boxcover shoot was already booked with my agency. The day of the supposed boxcover shoot this asshole sent me a TEXT MESSAGE to cancel and never did so properly through my agency. In fact my agency didn’t even KNOW that the shoot was canceled. I suppose he didn’t want to pay a kill fee or cancelation fee.
Before you go off on the talent about not being professional, make sure that YOU are professional.

Darrah, I don’t know how much experience you have in adult video production, but it doesn’t sound like much — if any.
The key word here is “attitude”. As Jeremiah points-out, it isn’t the questions themselves that cause the issue — It’s the attitude behind them.
* FYI: I don’t work for Vince… I barely know the guy. Met him once in Vegas at AVN. What I do know is video production, having shot scenes for the past 6 years. Maybe some of the attacks on him about other issues are justified. All I can comment on are the remarks he made above:

I know where Vince is coming from here. This is purely a judgement call. I’ve had girls call me with legit excuses or say they’re running behind — I let it slide. I’ve also had girls simply show up 45 minutes late, avoid eye-contact, and plop down in the makeup chair like it’s no big deal. THESE GIRLS are the target of Vince’s remark, and it’s justified.

This is a no-brainer. Of course he’s right. I discuss wardrobe DAYS in advance with my talent. I ask them if certain items will be a problem. If so, I take care of it. If a girl tells me she will bring something for a job that I am paying her for, I expect her to bring it. (You wouldn’t pay a carpenter who didn’t bring a hammer, would you?)

Again, justified. A girl knows when she arrives if she is going to be too sore for a scene. I’m not there to babysit and I’m not her OB/GYN, but I always ask how a girl is doing “downstairs” the moment she arrives on set. A simple “we aren’t going to have any problems today, are we?” usually does the trick. For her to WAIT until after the producer pays his makeup artist $100-$150 to get her ready is a slap in the face. If she doesn’t pay a kill fee for the day, I let her agent know that if we reschedule her, the rate is $150 less for the money she wasted. Seems fair to me!

Again, this is a judgement call. This question is usually accompanied by a certain “attitude” that makes your day a living hell, and it’s that of a prostitute/clock-watcher who doesn’t really want to be there. These are the WORST girls to deal with on set. Trust me, nobody wants to be on set more than 5-7 hours for a boy/girl shoot. The less, even better. So, relax and be a team player. Attitude is everything.

Again, it sounds like Vince is attacking the lesser of two attitudeshere. If a girl is new and/or I can tell she is asking politely and conversationally, I tell them “we usually try to get a standard 5 shots, and let me break them down for you…” This takes time to explain, sure, but we were all new once. If I can tell, however, that the “question” is coming from a hooker mentality… I can’t tolerate that. Not to mention — often WE DON’T KNOW how many positions we are going to shoot you in. All girls bodies are different. Some look great in every position. Some only look decent in 2 or 3.
Bottom line — The phrase that resonates with me is:

I can understand a bit where Vince is coming from and I am sure with his long history in the business he does not want to put up with the items he listed. Vince has always been cool with me whenever I run into him but the real reason I am posting here is because it was through a video from his company by Jack Napier that I first saw Monica Foster just as we were casting the Claire character for Not the Cosbys XXX. I was in the editing bay over a year ago and a Jack Napier scene was playing and I was quite impressed by the very sexy woman on the screen and quickly brought her in the next day to read for the Huxtable mom part. She was the perfect choice and is also wonderful in the just released Not the Cosbys XXX 2.
I met Vince back in 1998 and shot for him twice. He was very cool with me but I could see where he could be a little erratic should things not go perfectly as planned.
I read that and thought it sounded like a fucking crazy person. I ran into Vince a few years ago and he asked me to shoot for him. We traded texts and emails and then I started hearing people saying how he pays lower rates than what were agreed, that he tries to get extras from the girl during the shoot, like a girl who booked through my agency said after the pop he wanted the cameraman and another guy to pop on her face too and got really nasty when she said no. I also heard about him trying to put his dick in a girls ass during a vag scene which is fucking crazy.
Guys like this know who to try it on and who not to I think. They are predators and the young weak girls are easy targets.
I hope that Vince runs his business right after this post as he will be the one being targeted and called out from now on if he pulls his shit on girls.
