NEW YORK — Hollywood director behind cult classic “Sex, Lies and Videotape” has tapped adult star Sasha Grey to star in his upcoming feature film.
Hollywood trade journal Variety earlier this year reported that Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh planned to cast an adult film star as the lead in “The Girlfriend Experience.” The film is a low-budget feature film told from a perspective of a $10,000-a-night escort.
This week, several outlets reported Soderbergh decided to cast Grey as the lead in the Magnolia Pictures production. The film is now shooting in New York.
The film will be financed by HDNet label partners, Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner. It’s the second in a six-picture deal with Soderbergh to direct low-budget films to be distributed in theaters, on cable TV and DVD simultaneously.
Sasha Grey was traveling and couldn’t be immediately reached.
Soderbergh won the ‘best director’ Oscar in 2000 for “Traffic,” a gritty depiction of international drug smugglers and the federal agents who pursue them. He was previously nominated for the award for “Erin Brockovich” and “Sex, Lies and Videotape.”
Yeah, sort of like how Tera Patrick was tapped to star in Tarantino’s remake of Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, which Tarantino later said would never happen?

I didn’t know “Sex, lies and videotape” was a cult classic. I remember having a tough time watching it, despite the intriquing title.

WOW, I never thought the girlfriend experience would become a thing, I thought it was a term coined for me at the Bunnyranch, because when I got there the girls thought I was gross for kissing and cumming with people, so over the next few years it took off, really it was just me being me, I’m glad other girls learned how to enjoy their profession.
Bubble by Steven Soderbergh was a piece of pseudo-intellectual garbage about a bunch of minimum wage earning, depressed losers in shit hole U.S.A, I don’t think they even broke even on their production costs, and the movie was almost never shown on theaters and cable, and no major retail store carries it, because nobody wants to watch it. Now he wants to do another one of those meaningless artsy-fartsy movies to pose as an intellectual, independent filmmaker and redeem himself from his Hollywood crap such as Ocean series, and by Sasha Grey on board, even if this The Girlfriend Experience goes to dumpster, but at least he’ll get a free blow job.

I think casting this zombie like, anal wart infected, full of shit, overrated porn whore as a 10 G hooker has at least one benefit: it showcases the banality of prostitution and the ignorant fat pigs who pay for it, besides, as I mentioned before, Soderbergh will get the blow job regardless of what the fate of this movie would be.

I don’t know why so many go against Sasha’s looks. When someone else does her hair and makeup, she’s stunningly beautiful. She can pass for a $10k prostitute. Ashley Dupre was getting $5,000 an hour.
The money Dupre received paid for several hours, and over 50% of that went to her agency. The actual amount she took home was closer to $500 per hour. From what I’ve seen, Soderbergh’s GFE isn’t based on that kind of escort agency prostitution.
As for Sasha, she scrubs up pretty well, but she’s still miscast in this film. In the footage I’ve seen of the filming she just looks too young. They’ve put her in a classy outfit and she looks like a kid dressed up in her mother’s clothes.
All the really high-end hookers I’ve seen, the “classy courtesan” types that Sasha’s meant to be playing, have a more mature look. That’s what their clients are looking for, not a skinny teen girl who looks like their daughter.
