Even though he was a pioneer in the industry, Ed never seemed to "get it"…ie. He turned more people OFF (vs. ON) by sleeping with the amateur women. Maybe he should have stayed behind the camera instead of in front of it.

Ed is one of the reasons the adult business is down the drain. There was once a time that every adult bookstore that you walked into had a large section of Ed Powers videos. These purchases were not made by customer demand. They were simply the main videos pushed by the distributors. The bookstores lack of understanding or apathy towards their customers is one of the reasons that customers have flocked to the internet. They can find the entertainment they want, with complete privacy and with some rude person standing behind the counter. I’m not aware of anyone that actually watched any of Ed Powers crap. For some reason book store owners thought that as long as the girl was new people would buy the video. This is a major misconception.
Unlike traditional bookstores or main stream video stores the adult segment never had a real inventory or tracking system that tracked sales or rentals. AVN publishes a list of rentals and sales but everyone know these numbers are made up. You can walk into any porn shop and look at their equipment and see that they are lucky to have a cash register and maybe a computer rental tracking system.
So how does that store get their information to AVN?
The answer: They dont
Do you really think stores want to call up AVN each week to report their numbers? Do you then AVN has a room filled with phones and people calling stores asking for this information? Its a big country, getting information from just stores in California would be tough.
AVN is full of shit. Ed Powers tapes sold poorly and now they dont sell at all. The book stores had the gravy train for many years, especially in the early 80s when they would charge $100 for a lost video tape and rentals for $3 and $5 per tape per day. The gravy train is over. Its time for bookstore to sell what people want, provide top notch customer service or go out of business.
Its as simple as that. Bookstore need to provide a value product and Ed Powers is not it!
Ed is also a major pothead. The reason he would cackle loudly at the “jokes” he cracked when interviewing the girls is because he was stoned out of his mind. He was always more annoying than funny.
His Dirty Debs series was original when it started in the early 90s but became unwatchable as Ed got flabbier, and his already tiny member seemed to get shorter as he gained weight.
He never figured out the Internet either. He already had a ton of content in the mid 90s when adult websites became common, but his site was always lame. He’s probably sitting right now in his Valley mansion (is that an oxymoron?) watching his ever shrinking dick fading away behind his ever growing gut.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – A few retailers have noticed that Ed Powers, the man who made “Debutantes” a household word, hasn’t released anything of late … and a couple have even inquired whether he was dead.
Happily, he isn’t, and sent AVN.com the following statement:
