Lucky Starr Reviews “Deep Throat Sex Scandal”

Lucky Starr’s Review of "Deep Throat Sex Scandal".

I actually saw this play weeks ago, but after hearing about its extension through mid-April, I thought I’d finally give it the plug it truly deserves.

I was excited about seeing this play.  Not only did it represent some of our own in featured parts, but it combined two of my favorite worlds, porn and theater.  Being a former professional stage actress and card carrying member of Actors Equity Association, this play is a wonderful portrayal of the adult industry.

The play begins in the swinging 60’s at a time when free love was everywhere. "Make love, not war" was everyone’s motto right in the middle of the Nixon administration.  A stage actor after a performance gets word from another actor that he can make good money in films, which at the time were called "fuck films".  The actor was later named Harry Reems. On a set one day, he came across a fresh new face named Linda Lovelace, who was under the close watch of her husband who kept her on a very tight leash.
Reems steps into a leading role at the last minute.  A film that started out as a $25,000 budget, turned into a multi-million dollar profit.  The play leads us through the films struggle as people in other parts of the country targeted Harry Reems on obscenity charges.

The play stars professional stage/screen actors as well as some of our own.  Marc Ginsberg is phenomenal and very real as Harry Reems, and Natasha Charles Parker is very bright eyed as Linda Lovelace.  With a number of great supporting roles, our own Hershel Savage was very believable as the films producer Gerry Damiano, and later playing the role of attorney Alan Dershowitz.  The roles of the cashier and the judge featured different performers in the roles every week such as Nina Hartley, Amber Lynn, Bill Margold,, Bruce Villanch, Christopher Knight (as in Peter Brady!),Rebecca Bardoux, Evan Stone, Alana Evans (March 14-17)  but the night I saw the show, Tom Byron was amazing in the role of the judge, very believable (although personally, I think Max Hardcore would be great as the judge in future performances!!).

I took my boyfriend, Kevin Wang, to see this play.  He hasn’t seen a heck of a lot of theater, but this play struck a chord in him, and it will to anyone who is passionate about this industry.  I highly recommend seeing this play soon before in closes mid-April.  It’s at the Zephyr Theater in Hollywood 7456 Melrose, Los Angeles, CA. www.deepthroattheplay.com.

It’s a sad reflection of this fascist suiciety that porn is still considered a greater obscenity than war.

It’s also sad when the need for attention is far more important than any concept whatsoever of right vs. wrong. It’ll cause one to befriend anyone, no matter what they’ve done to who, or demonize, talk shit or give personal details about and embarrass people close to them just so that they can have an audience, attention, sympathy and a feeling of importance!

And it’s funny that the original “Deep Throat” is allegedly Alexander Haig… talk about a bad visual!

  3. artwilliams says:

Deep Throat was FBI Associate Director Mark Felt.

Steele knew that, he just wrote it wrong. Nina Hartley, Amber Lynn, Bill Margold…I am tired of these folks.

We’re betting Bow Wow ‘s pretty barkin’ mad about this…

A California District Court judge has ordered the 26-year-old rapper (real name: Shad Gregory Moss) to pay a porn star almost $80,000 for using footage of her in one of his videos without her permission, E! News has confirmed.

French adult film star Celine Tan scored the legal victory after suing the rapper back in 2012.

Specifically, according to the ruling obtained by E! News, Bow Wow will have to pony up $51,900 in punitive damages and $26,790 in attorney’s fees, which, when added to other miscellaneous fees, brings his total to a cha-chinging $79,346.07.

The judge also issued an injunction barring Bow Wow from continuing to use the footage in question.

When it comes to the eyes of the law, looks like Bow Wow’s been left in the doghouse.
