Transsexual Miss Canada Universe Finalist Disqualified

From http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/03/24/

She may look every bit the part of a beauty queen, but Jenna Talackova has lost her chance for the crown because she was born a biological male.

The 23-year-old Miss Universe Canada finalist was disqualified from the competition after it was discovered she had undergone sexual reassignment surgery, reports CTV.

National director of Miss Universe Canada Denis Davila told the Toronto Star that while they consider Talackova to be a "real girl," Miss Universe rules stipulate that contestants must be a “naturally born female.”

Davila also told the Star that Talackova indicated on her registration form that she was born female. Talackova was disqualified the same day she revealed she was in fact born a male.

According to a statement from Miss Universe Canada, Talackova was disqualified because "she did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form. We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best."

In a 2010 interview, Talackova said she knew she was a female at age 4 and began hormone therapy at age 14. She underwent reassignment surgery at 19.

Talackova told CTV she’s "not giving up" and is consulting a lawyer. In the mean time, Miss Universe Canada has removed all photos of the Vancouver resident from their website and another woman has taken her spot.

one of the few things i severely dislike about the porn industry is its creation of the word “tranny”. it’s fucking degrading, and transgender people (such as myself) REALLY hate it. it’s not “cute” or endearing, and it’s just as bad as calling an African-American person a “nigger”. i understand that there is a market for that sort of thing, and that’s fine by me, but the word “tranny” needs to fucking go away.

Jenna IS a woman, and the Canadian Miss Universe “board of directors” (or whatever they’re called) completely screwed her over…they made up some obscure rule at the last minute to keep her from competing, even though that “rule” isn’t even listed on their website. Jenna is beautiful and it grinds my gears to no end that they made up some fucking super-obscure “rule” just to keep her from competing.

i hope she sues the shit out of them (for breaking Canadian anti-descrimination laws. also Donald Trump is the “owner” of the contest, and i’d LOVE to see him get his ass handed to him in court!)

[edit: turns out she IS suing the Miss Universe Pageant people, as well as Donald Trump. fucking awesome!]

  3. GLAAD leaned on them and they folded up their tents. So now she/he/it/they are back in the competition.

I didn’t know the porn industry created the word, “tranny”, Cat. There’s no such thing as a bad word, just the concept that it’s bad. A friend can say one thing, and an enemy the same thing, but guess which one just pissed me off? It’s about the intention/value of the person saying it. A girl may hate being called Melissa and prefer being called Missy or vice versa. It’s a personal thing. Imagine people who love you throwing the word out instead of uptight men who hate you and then it shouldn’t bother you anymore.
