Luke left the industry more than four years ago but continues to blog and lead an interesting life. He is an converted Orthodox Jew who recently admitted to dealing with a sex addiction.
I sent Luke all the questions that my readers submitted. I have posted the ones he answered. The first four questions are from me
Why did you decide to seek treatment for sex addiction, and speak out about it?
In April, my therapist told me that it sounded like I had “eroticized rage.” I went home and Googled the topic and realized I did have a streak of hatred of women in me and I kept researching the topic and realized I should get help. I started going to a 12-step program for sex addiction even though I was not acting out. I’ve been in therapy every week for the past three years. Working the 12 steps is past of my recovery from living out of addiction.
My addictions to attention, to love and sexual affairs, was holding back my life so I decided to do something about it seriously.
My emotional addictions (using the excitement of love or sex or attention to fill the hole in my soul) did not result in me acting out sexually very much but they came through in my attempts to have relationships and much of the needless cruelty of my writing, I fear, has been a reflection of my eroticized rage and my misogynistic streak.
Are you still solidly involved in the Jewish faith? What challenges does that present for you?
Yes. I go to synagogue every day to pray and to study Talmud. I often go back to shul at night to study Torah. Living as an Orthodox Jew presents serious challenges. It’s a demanding religion. For the first time that I can remember, all of my life is now congruent. One area feeds another.
You have spent the last three years being educated in the Alexander Method, how has this changed your life?
Living in reaction sucks. Living in response is cool. With my Alexander Technique training, I’ve been able to let go of many of my
habitual responses to stimuli that were not serving me. Now that I have qualified as a teacher after three years of daily training, I can
now help people become aware of how they respond to stimuli and assist them in letting go of those responses that are hurting them.
I have three types of clients. Those in performance (actors, models, public speakers, musicians, etc) who want to perform at a higher
level, with more ease and poise and elegance. Those in chronic pain whose tension patterns have made their lives unbearable. People with
Repetitive Strain Injury, back pain and the like. Virtually all back, neck and head pain is caused by needless muscular holding. And the
third group of people I see are those seeking personal growth.

What are your plans and goals for 2012?
My main professional goal is to help as many people as possible learn to move with ease and grace and perform the tasks of daily life more efficiently. I love seeing the difference a few Alexander lessons makes for a person who’s been held back by needless muscular tension. Many models, for instance, have weird tension patterns that inhibit their work. Many cameramen develop back and shoulder pain that can be relieved through Alexander Technique.
I’ve heard of ex-hookers who did the three years of training and became Alexander Technique teachers. Many in the sex industry have heightened kinaesthetic awareness. After they’re done with sex work, they’re looking for a new profession. Their past closes many doors in the corporate world. With body work or Alexander Technique or alternative health methods, they can find a rewarding career.

I teach various places in Los Angeles. Sometimes we meet at a park or a track or I will go to someone’s office and show him easier and more
