The gunman who randomly opened fire on cars in Hollywood for several minutes Friday fired close to 20 rounds before being killed by Los Angeles police, leading investigators to believe that he reloaded at least once during his shooting rampage, authorities said Saturday.
Tyler Brehm, 26, was fatally shot by officers near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street minutes after wandering up the sidewalk, and then the street, and repeatedly firing what law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation described as .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun.
According to sources, Brehm first began firing his gun in the air before he started to target motorists as he walked by a pawnshop on Vine near DeLongpre Avenue at 10:19 a.m.
Officials said he menaced drivers in the parking lot at a McDonalds then continued to fire as he walked north up Vine. It was just south of Sunset when he encountered a silver Mercedes sports car and fired several shots that hit vehicle, with at least one round striking music industry executive John Atterberry, who was in the car, in the face.
After shooting Atterberry, the gunman walked into the middle of Vine and the intersection with Sunset and continued firing into the air and at cars.
LAPD officials said several people had their windows shot out. It was not clear exactly where Brehm reloaded, but several witnesses reported seeing him placing a new clip into the weapon.
At 10:22 a.m., two LAPD officers, including an off-duty motor officer working on a movie set and an undercover detective working in the area, confronted the suspect and ordered him to drop his gun.
The LAPD said in a statement that "the suspect pointed his weapon at the motor officer and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect fell to the ground and was immediately taken into custody. Officers immediately called for medical assistance."
Brehm, who was pronounced dead at the scene, came to the Hollywood area about a month ago and was subletting an apartment. He had no criminal record but had recently broken up with his girlfriend, although the sources said they have still not pinpointed a motive for the shooting.
******Meanwhile, some details emerged that may explain what motivated Friday morning’s shooting, which occurred near one of Hollywood’s busiest intersections and left a 40-year-old music executive in critical condition with neck and face wounds. A woman who identified herself as Brehm’s ex-girlfriend said she believes their recent breakup may have sparked his rampage.
Alicia Alligood, 24, told KTLA-TV that she and Brehm dated for four years before breaking up. She described Brehm as "really stressed out lately" and said he’d recently started taking pharmaceutical drugs, which she called surprising because he wasn’t one to use hard drugs.
On his Facebook page, he listed conversation, knowledge, friendship, family, money, success and "things that go fast" as his interests. He changed his status from "in a relationship" to "single" on Dec. 6. Police said Saturday that Brehm had no criminal record. Police also verified that he had recently broken up with his girlfriend but did not say whether they believe the breakup led to the shooting.
On Saturday afternoon, no one answered at the Hollywood apartment where Brehm lived with Alligood. But neighbor Ermelinda Benitez confirmed that the couple moved in about a month ago. She said she didn’t know Brehm or Alligood, but she described an incident about two weeks ago in which she saw Brehm in the hallway, loudly banging on the door to his and Alligood’s unit. Benitez presumed the two were fighting and said Brehm was carrying a clear plastic bag with what appeared to be a comforter or blanket stuffed inside.
Alligood told KTLA that she and Brehm went to junior high and high school together. She called him a "humanitarian" and said he wanted to "change the world for the better."

Sounds like he was depressed from his GF kicking his ass to the curb and decided he didn’t want to live any more so he commited suicide (death by cop). It happens fairly often. Probably they came to LA and she got work and he didn’t. Her modeling page shows her to be a very attractive woman. Losing her probably really put him in a depressed state.

I just spoke with a girl who lives in the neighborhood who said the shooter was driving and involved in a fender bender before he got out and started shooting. The news never covered this. They’re also certainly not gonna ever cover the side effects of depression meds since Big Pharma is t.v.’s biggest and most relentless advertiser.
