Michael Jackson’s Doctor’s Verdict In

From Cnn.com

A jury has found Dr. Conrad Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.

Murray faces up to four years in prison and the loss of his medical license.

Murray was Jackson’s personal physician as the pop star prepared for his comeback concerts. Murray gave Jackson the surgical anesthetic propofol to help him sleep nearly every night for the last two months of his life, according to testimony.

Deliberations by the jury of seven men and five women began Friday after a 23-day trial and lasted for about 10 hours.

Ok, so now that this guy has been deemed responsible for Jackson’s death, where do we send the Thank You notes? To the prison, or will he be out soon enough to send them to a PO Box?

  2. Its so laughable that we even had this trial or that he was convicted. There are millions of folks who abuse or overuse prescription painkillers and if they OD and die no one arrests the doctor. Did the doctor hold down MJ and shove the drugs in him?

  3. Michael Whiteacre says:

He was Jackson’s doctor, and he had certain duties to his patient. The issue was, did he perform up up the legal standard of care? The jury said no.

This was a an extreme case. He didn’t write Jackson a prescription for valium, he got him gallons of a powerful anesthetic that was not intended to be used in a bedroom, and then he failed to have life-saving equipment on hand in case something went wrong.

  4. Mike you know as well as I do if it was you or I that died no one would ever go after our doctors. Its because he was MJ and they want someone to take the fall for what happened.

  5. Michael Whiteacre says:

@Karmafan – Yes and no. The circumstances here are different in that they were extreme, and their extremity derives from how unique they were. I doubt you or I could afford to keep a doctor on a $150,000/month retainer, and we probably wouldn’t have the insurance company for our world tour insist that this doctor keep an eye on us and make sure we are comfy and docile.

I don’t think you can separate the circumstances of MJ’s death from the circumstances of his life. He was living in a unique environment, and the duties of those around him had to match the situation. You or I would not likely be making requests of the sort MJ did. It was a high risk, high stakes enterprise for Dr. Murray — I suspect that’s why the compensation was so great. This wasn’t a local doctor at the local HMO, or what have you.

This was a bullshit prosecution, Murray should lose his medical license and that’s all. Michael Jackson asked for this stuff, he asked Deepak Chopra for this stuff and he said no. What about Elvis’ doctors? Michael Jackson was a gifted artist, but a terribly sick man, in all ways.

  7. Deepak Chopra is a fucking hack that makes up fake fancy words to confuse people into thinking he’s some kind of life guru. What a fucking con-man. Head on over to the skeptic’s society and read how they pretty much debunk every word that come’s out of that idiot’s mouth.
