Nope I got no problem with this at all. This is something that she couldn’t help this is potentially millions of dollars, not gas money to go see mommy and daddy or whomever.
What would really be nice is if some talent organization existed that would negotiate with an insurance company to underwrite a group policy.
It would even be nicer if people were responsible enough to get the insurance and maintain it.
Most porn stars seem to live their lives by the old song from KISS… “Let’s Rock & Roll all day and party every nite”.
The folks that seperate porn and their private life and don’t burn the candles at both ends seem to be better off financially.
Ive said it before and I will say it again. The talent needs some sort of a union or organization that can help them to get health insurance, life insurance, and help teach them to manage their money for their later years when they are too old to do porn any more. Good luck to Holly and I hope she beats the cancer.

I’m working on securing funding for Adult Performer Advocate, http://adultperformeradvocate.org over the next few months, with the intent for it to be a fully functioning non profit trade organization that caters to Adult Performers by spring of 2012.
One of the top 3 objectives is to start a group health care plan, similar to the one offered by NY’s FreeLancer’s Union.
Thats good to hear January. I have been saying all along the talent needs health insurance (just like all americans need it as well).
They also need help to manage their money and put some away so when they are too old to make porn any more they won’t be broke and have no job skills to fall back on.

I think its more the case they look at the talent as independent contractors or a small private owned business as opposed to a corporation that has hundreds if not thousands of employees. A lot of the talent needs to get together as 1 to get any kind of a decent rate for a health insurance company.
At least thats how it used to be before Obama became president. Not sure any more if it has changed under his watch.
I don’t know why any company has whores designated as “employees”. They’re independent contractors and they’re “open for business”.
@ Sean and Karmafan- In addition to a group plan providing a more reasonable rate than one can come up with for an individual plan, having a group plan also enables those who have pre-existing conditions that would otherwise exclude them from having health care to be covered by the group plan. When I was younger, I went several years without health insurance for just that reason- I had some pre-existing conditions that meant my individual plan rate was astronomical AND wouldn’t cover anything directly or peripherally related to the condition for the first two years. Luckily, I’ve worked out a solution to that, but I worry about the men and women in the industry who don’t have health insurance.
I know that one of Hollie’s problems was she didn’t have health insurance, and so she kept putting off going to the Dr for an exam..

Sounds like a decent plan. Social diseases are a definate occupational hazzard for a porn star and treatment can be expensive and ongoing. It must suck ass to be in porn and have no health insurance.
One of the things I really hope the industry starts doing is to encourage the testing female talent for cervical cancer once a year as a part of the mandatory of panel screenings. A simple pap smear can stop a abnormal pap from turning into cancer and save a life, not to mention thousands in medial bills. There are more then a few women in the industry that have had cervical cancer and I know a few girls that were devastated to learn they could not have children because of this. All of them under 25.
@chichiladouche – I second that. This is a golden opportunity. And now, with doctors available as an intrinsic part of the industry’s system, it would be a natural evolutionary step.
The APHSS program is envisioned to embrace recommended health guidelines as well as educational components. Right now the focus is on populating the performer database, but I would expect some announcements following this phase.
