Well, AIDS Healthcare Foundation is at it again, and what we would like to know is:
WHY are California taxpayers expected to throw more money at an appeal to the State Supreme Court over a non-issue that AHF has blown up to “epidemic” proportions? Especially at a time when the state budget is being slashed for much-needed programs, including state and local STI programs?
Yesterday, taxpayer supported “nonprofit” AHF announced that it will “vigorously pursue” an appeal on a recently dismissed lawsuit; filed in 2009, the suit seeks to have the courts compel Los Angeles County Public Health (LACPH) officials to take action against the “spread” of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the adult performer population. AHF claims it feels STI rates for adult performers represent a public health threat and they are willing to go to the State Supreme Court to prove it.
The action by AHF follows last week’s judgment by California Appeals Court Justices Richard D. Aldrich, Joan D. Klein and Patti S. Kitching. In his written opinion, Justice Aldrich said specifically that AHF’s claims that LA County is obligated to take action in order to stop AHF’s purported “epidemic” are patently false. Moreover, it is unlikely that any court can grant AHF’s demands because, as it says in the current ruling, the court “cannot compel another branch of government to exercise its discretion in any manner” nor “compel [LA County] to implement [AHF’s] agenda.”
Of course, AHF’s agenda is enforcing mandatory condoms and other barrier protection in the adult industry – because apparently there are not enough legitimate issues facing those affected with HIV/AIDS or populations at risk for HIV infection. Apparently, all of AHF’s attention can now be focused on policing the adult performer population numbering, perhaps, 1,500 people.
Never mind that the adult production industry has successfully self-regulated the safety of its performers with monthly STI testing since 1998. The testing protocol instated by the now-defunct Adult Industry Medical Healthcare (AIM) clinic efficiently prevented HIV-positive individuals from entering the business, and also effectively limited the spread of infection when active performers tested positive in 2004, 2009 and 2010. AIM also served the sexual health needs of other high-risk populations not involved in adult production.
Never mind that another lawsuit, and numerous complaints filed by AHF were instrumental in contributing to the “financial hardships” that finally destroyed AIM.
Never mind that statistical information on STI rates for adult performers, presented by public health officials, has been described as inaccurate and “without basis in science” in a report commissioned by FSC, written by prominent epidemiologist and biostatistician Dr. Lawrence Mayer. That report was entered into record at the June 7 Cal/OSHA meeting, attended by scores of adult performers that wanted their voices heard in a regulatory process that will impact them the most. And never mind that AHF – not performers – has filed workplace safety violation complaints against adult production companies and agents, forcing Cal/OSHA into action.
Never mind that AHF keeps on quoting what they now must know to be inaccurate information; as in its press release, that “as many as 22 porn performers have tested positive in the last five years,” when in fact, the LA Times published that health officials retracted their findings concerning the number of performers that tested positive for HIV. And according to Dr. Mayer’s report, the stats that AHF quotes (as analyzed by LA County Public Health) on Chlamydia and gonorrhea in the performer population ALSO are wildly inaccurate.
And while AHF is busy playing nanny to adult industry performers and the public at large, did you know that a recent study shows that the highest rate of increase in HIV infection in the nation is affecting Asians and Pacific Islanders? When was the last time that we saw an Asian on an AHF billboard, or AHF launching media outreach to that community?
Did you know that HIV rates for gay and bisexual men in California may have been dropping steadily since the mid-2000s, and this may be due to improved treatments for HIV? AHF provides valuable resources for those living with HIV and should continue to do so – at the same time, taking responsibility for the education of at-risk populations about safe sex. But adult performers – who test 12 times a year or more – are making an informed choice about their health and the work they do; how many average citizens are tested for STIs, even just once?
Citizens of Sacramento – where legislators work every day to try and serve the public’s interests while dealing with never-ending debates over how to fix the budget – did you know that funding cuts to local STI programs in Sacramento have resulted in the capitol now having the fifth largest incidence of syphilis in the state? That’s up from NO reported cases of syphilis in the early 2000s, and due to lack of funding for outreach staffing.
Look, we all know that California is facing a budget shortfall of up to $23 BILLION dollars for 2012. So far, state funding has been slashed to important programs for firefighters, courts, prisons, schools, state parks and the elderly, just to name a few.
Do the state of California, Los Angeles County or even AHF’s contributors need to spend one more red cent on funding or defending against AHF’s impractical campaign to enforce condom use on adult production sets? For that matter, do state officials (at the behest of AHF) want to encourage the legal, revenue-generating adult production industry to pull up stakes and move out of California, to places where production safety and standards will be virtually impossible to enforce?
FSC has been working with Cal/OSHA, industry stakeholders, compliance experts and attorneys to develop industry-appropriate regulations. As the industry trade association in the U.S., our agenda is to promote and protect the well-being of the adult industry community and businesses.
We’ll leave it to you to figure out what AHF’s agenda is, and how much it’s costing taxpayers. – jc

Whoever wrote this is correct about identifying STDs as STIs. In fact, my planned next op/ed was on the subject. If you ever had chicken pox, based on their language you HAVE a DISEASE! Have we forgotten what the word “disease” means?
I wasn’t aware that gay and bi HIV rates have been dropping, but they’re still much higher than the str8 biz, right? What does that say about mandatory condoms vs mandatory testing? What about the chances of catching HIV through unprotected sex from an ‘infected’ person?: ridiculously lower than the chances of condom failure. Do any of these facts matter? Is objective thinking and research no longer a staple of being human? Isn’t the whole subject of HIV testing important to do the research on the inconsistency of HIV testing? Btw, I’ve seen the above documentary only recently. I’ve had in my possession for a while the two disc Deluxe Edition, which I mistakingly thought included the original doc, but in actuality only contains extended and previously unseen footage (many clips and interviews) without any documentary whatsoever. So I was promoting the Deluxe Edition which really isn’t a doc but definitely worth seeing along with the House of Numbers doc. What I’ve been quoting (including the above comment #6) has been from the Deluxe Edition, not the original doc. The above doc link also shows my late friend Christine Maggiore who I did volunteer work for.

None of you who are not parents can even remotely imagine how much stress/grief she suffered over the death of EJ, the threats to take away her (other) child (son away), the nonstop emails and calls accusing her of murder, the case she tried to make against the coroner, the Law & Order episode portraying her as a killer of her own child? Could any of your own mothers have gone through this and remained healthy? Could you go through it without being completely wrecked and drained of life energy?
She clearly died from the stress of it all, particularly from the loss of her daugther.
But let those who want to take the so-called “hiv tests” take them. And if they want the fast tracked “black box” aids drugs, then let them take them as well. That is their lesson. Some people are not able to learn from the mistakes of others. They just have to go through it all themselves to understand anything.

From the time I hit puberty, I’ve gobbled up everything I could read about HIV and AIDS. It started out as morbid curiousity, but as I got older and met individuals with HIV, I wanted to know everything I could possibly know, on both sides. My best friend was diagnosed HIV+ in 2008 and I’ve lost 2 close friends to this awful, awful disease you choose to deny. Christine Maggiore denied that her HIV+ status meant anything at all. I can understand this. No one wants to face their own mortality at such a young age. Nobody wants to hear that they can never live a normal life, find love, have children that won’t have to face the same obstacles. She also made quite a career out of her diluded beliefs. I also understand that you are the resident conspiracy theorist around here and that you work in an industry where you have a chance of being exposed to and developing HIV. The chances are small because you are a straight male, but there are plenty of non iv drug using straight males in the US living with HIV. Of course this is not something you would ever want to consider happening to you, so you hide it under a rug of denial. Nobody plans on having a car crash when they get behind the wheel drunk, and many don’t but it does happen. It’s easier to push the scary monsters back into the closet and cover up your fear, concious or not, with bravado and skewed facts. How do you explain my best friend’s T cell count going up and CDC count going down after he started treatment? My roommate was raised by his loving uncle because no one else wanted to take responsibility for him. Weeks before he graduated highschool, his uncle died. From AIDS linked to HIV. When you deny AIDS and HIV, you deny all the hard, thankless, and heartwrenching work my friend’s mom did for people she didn’t even know. You deny the nights I’ve held my best friend while he sobbed and asked me “Why?”, a question I had no answer for. You deny the love my roommate had for the only realtive he had that loved him enough to take him in as his own. And finally, you deny the grief of all the mourners at the funerals I’ve been to and every mourner at every AIDS funeral over the past 30 years.
Maggiore’s promotion of AIDS denialism had long been controversial, particularly since her 3-year-old daughter, Eliza Jane Scovill, died of Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia and untreated AIDS. Consistent with her belief that HIV was harmless, Maggiore had not taken medication to reduce the risk of transmission of HIV to her daughter during pregnancy, and she did not have Eliza Jane tested for HIV during her daughter’s lifetime. Maggiore hired a veterinary toxicologist (and AIDS denialist) to review the autopsy report. The toxicologist produced a report attributing Eliza Jane’s death to an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, rather than AIDS. Maggiore herself died on December 27, 2008 after suffering from several AIDS-related conditions. Maggiore’s death certificate states that the cause of death was disseminated herpes virus infection and bilateral pneumonia, with oral candidiasis as a contributing cause, all of which can be related to HIV infection. The death certificate also states there was no autopsy or biopsy performed.

Notable are the causes of death of both Christine and Eliza Jane. Eliza Jane’s death was reputed by a veternary toxologist, who was also a known AIDS denialist. Not really his field, since animals don’t die of AIDS.

You say Gallo is an asshole (and he’s an opportunist), yet the entire HIV/AIDS foundation rests on this guy who was tried twice for scientific misconduct and then later fired from the N.I.H.
As the House of Numbers doc reveals Gallo’s announcement through the HHS during the Reagen adminstration was made before any peer review of his “scientific” data. The politicial AIDS industry
was born the very moment his announcement was made and mega-money was dished out based solely on Gallo’s hypothesis and no other.
And like OSHA skewing the language (saying that condoms “prevent” STDS and pregnancy), Gallo’s original announcement that the “probable” cause of AIDS was found was skewed to mean that “probable” = “no doubt about it”/ no debate/ case closed and if you disagree you’re a murderer, a “denialist” and fucking crazier than a bad ass honey badger who doesn’t give a shit.
This is also like HIV tests which may say you’re “HIV+”, while the manufacturer of the testing kit has the written disclaimer that the test is “presumptive” and requires further presumptive tests.
“There is no cure” for AIDS, we are told but these drugs supposedly prolong life. Yet, case after case after case after case reveal that those drugs with skull and crossbones on the label cause agony and death, and in regards to pregnant mothers such as Christine Maggiore was, STILLBIRTHS (infanticide) and SEVERE BIRTH DEFECTS! We’re collectively missing the obvious here, hidden in plain sight; a fetus is an extremely delicate thing which the mainstream AIDS cult insists must imbibe these skull and crossbone drugs which kill and even worse some
would argue, cause extreme birth defects. As the House of Numbers documentary showed, an adopted, healthy Romanian girl was claimed
in the U.S. to be HIV+, she was put on AZT, then got horribly ill and was in agony, and then when she was taken off the drugs she got well again and is alive and healthy to this day! Even if it were an undeniable fact that HIV causes AIDS, that HIV tests prove HIV infection and that all HIV+ cases will die, the “this is not a cure” solution in itself is NOT anything that anyone should be forced to take without freedom of choice. And for excercising their freedom of choice they should not be so harrassed as a “murderer”, as Christine was.
We need to examine that epithet “denialism” in regards to those who believe the official story Mainstream Denialism about AIDS and HIV includes but is not limited to:
a. (not in your case as much) Gallo submitted his findings, the gov’t backed him up and offered billions and employed thousands to find a cure based on hypothesis BEFORE his findings were reviewed by his peers.
b. Gallo was tried for scientfic misconduct twice. Yet he is the holy guru that we trust and which the entire mega-money making HIV/AIDS paradigm is based.
C. HIV tests do not test for HIV. The manufacturers state this. “Confirmatory” are just alternative guessing mechanisms. Different labs use different standards of measurement meaning
that an HIV+ result will be an HIV- result somewhere else. As Christine states in the House of Numbers documentary, how can you
deem anyone HIV+ when the tests don’t identify it? In her case, she was positive, then she was negative, then indeterminate, etc. As she also pointed out, of the orgainization group women with “HIV” that she was part of, she was one of only 3 women who didn’t die. And those 3 women were the only ones not on AIDS “therapy” drugs.
d. ALL AIDS defined illnesses are NOT new, only the AIDS label. The only difference between a disease and an AIDS disease is the “HIV” label based on presumptive tests that have no gold standard whatsover, where if you’re positive in one place based on the same lab data, you’ll be negative somewhere else!
e. Mainstream denialists refused to acknowledge the deaths and agonies AIDS drugs cause (as I’ve mentioned).

I’m not going to address any more of your points, Iscgob, until you check out the links first. I applaud your comment that you will ingest any information about subjects important to you, no matter what the context. I wish more people had that approach. I’ve lost a lot of “friends” who have been hostile and insulting to me and my opinions but have never taken the time to examine the existing evidence. I had a gay friend years ago who showed me on op/ed from a gay magazine Frontiers, where the writer suggested that “AIDS denialists” as they were labeled, be imprisoned. Now, coming from a member of a community that for so many years was ostracized and never listened to, that was an extreme outrage and the worst form of hypocrisy. Leave belief for religious people (although even faith is not necessary based on lack of reason and examination of facts). It seems Americans are some of the most brainwashed people in the world based on this arrogant presumption that speaking “authorities” are to be automatically trusted, and not seeing through to how money and politics controls the flow of information. Remember, the official story all these years later about JFK’s assasination was that a single “magic bullet” killed him and shot the Texas Governor- something that’s scientifically impossible. When it comes to money and power, as the AIDS industry commands, information does NOT flow freely, unless it’s the kind of information or disinformation they want you to read or hear!

Speaking of airport security did anyone else see this news story this week? When I read it I was so pissed:
Security officers from the Transportation Security Administration patted down a 95-year-old woman stricken with cancer and forced her to remove her adult diaper earlier this month, CNN reports. The TSA is defending their officers, saying proper procedures were followed.
Ninety-five-year-old Lena Reppert and her daughter, Jean Weber, were traveling from Florida to Michigan on June 18 when a TSA officer performed a pat-down on Reppert. Weber told CNN her mother was then brought into a private room where a TSA officer said she would need to remove her diaper because it was “wet and it was firm, and they couldn’t check it thoroughly.”
Weber told CNN she burst into tears during the incident, which caused TSA to pat her down as well. She told WDIV-TV of Detroit her mother is currently doing well in Michigan and that her family “was treating her like royalty because they love her so much.”
The TSA released a statement Sunday defending the officers’ actions, deeming them professional.
“While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner,” the statement said. “We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally and according to proper procedure.”
Weber has filed a complaint with the TSA.
