AIM (Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation) aka the "porn star clinic" has been SHUT DOWN.
It’s official. AIM is closed after 13 years of lying to performers and the public thanks to organizations AHF, Pink Cross Foundation, RHIG, UCLA School of Public Health and Los Angeles Public Health who fought tirelessly to see the mafia-ruled clinic shut down.
Over the past two years non-profit organizations have worked tirelessly to expose the rampant STD and health crisis among performers in the porn industry which were under the care of negligent doctors, fraudulent doctors and a board of directors made of pornographers and porn stars.
But no more. AIM IS CLOSED.

“It is our understanding that AIM is now closed. Our hearts go out to AIM and its dedicated staff. We know that it has been a very difficult time for them,” FSC Executive Director Diane Duke said. “Rest assured that FSC is committed to making sure that the industry and its performers are well-protected.”
Well protected? Not according to credible doctors at Los Angeles County Public Department of Health.
In September, 2009, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 2,396 cases of Chlamydia, 1,389 cases of gonorrhea, five syphilis, and 26 HIV cases among porn performers. It was also reported that Chlamydia and gonorrhea prevalence in porn performers is ten times higher than that of Los Angeles County 20-24 year olds and five times higher than that of one of Los Angeles County’s highest risk populations.
These statistics are alarming to the public yet AIM stated in a video of their clinic that, "We’re the largest early detection HIV testing facility in the country and we keep the adult entertainment industry safe."
AIM doesn’t keep anyone safe. AIM is off target as usual.
Porn industry ring leaders continued to deny that there was any STD problem in the porn industry even after the report by LAPHD. However, the people making those statements were not the ones risking their lives on dangerous porn sets.
Even the main "doctor" Sharon Mitchell, founder of AIM, who is not a medical doctor, admitted there was an STD problem among porn performers. Dr. Mitchell estimated that, "7% have HIV, and 12-28% STDs. Herpes is always about 66%. … Chlamydia and gonorrhea, however, along with hepatitis, seem to stick to everything from dildos to flat surfaces to hands, so, pardon my expression, but we are usually up to our asses in chlamydia.”
Now AIM Is up to its ass in lawsuits. Porn stars are currently suing AIM for breach of privacy. AIM began in 1998 and officially ended in 2011. Nothing is impossible with God.

@Karmafan — Do not believe that 66% number. The source of that number is an anecdotal remark by Sharon Mitchell from over ten years ago. AIM Healthcare DID NOT TEST universally for herpes so there is no way that she could have KNOWN that. Therefore, IT IS NOT A PROPER STATISTIC. The most likely construction of Mitchell’s (admittedly ill-considered) statement is that 66% of performers who think they need to be tested for herpes actually have it. That is the most she could have possibly known. Additionally, one only has to look at the CDC numbers to realize that a high percentage of the sexually active general population also has some form of herpes.
Nor should you believe the 300% higher than normal STD rate canard that Mike is shoveling. Higher than normal in what population? First, you’d need to find another insular population similarly sexually active. Second, I do not believe that the raw numbers bear that out — that 300% higher figure derives from the same entity (LA County) that Lubben cites as part of the cabal that wished to demonize and destroy AIM! That number comes from the same batch of numbers as the inflated HIV number that the Los Angeles Times ran and HAD TO RETRACT because it was not verifiable!
Adult performers are NOT the new Typhoid Marys. That is a claim used by a scandal-ridden LA County Department of Health to distract taxpayers from their gross failures: Hospitals being seized by the federal government, indigent patients being dumped on the streets; 16,000 people (according to the CDC) walking around LA County with HIV but do not know they’re infected, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
And, as Mike South’s comment demonstrates, with so many people in the industry gunning for Sharon Mitchell for the last 12 1/2 years, this was indeed bound to happen. AIM was not perfect by any stretch — but it sprung up in response to an HIV outbreak, and the system that emerged PREVENTED another HIV outbreak. To that end it was a success.
But Mike is 100% correct on one thing: NOW is the time for the industry to learn from its mistakes, pull together and fix it right.

By any means you measure it porn performers have a MUCH higher incident of STDs than anything anyone would even remotely consider average. and theres a reason for it. We dont test for HPV, Herpes, or Hep. performers work while knowing they are infected, they dont care.

If some folks are HIV+ and still continue to work you casn be sure there are also folks with herpes, and other forms of VD that STILL will continue to work.

However, the question is HOW did one “come up with” them? For averages to mean anything, for them to be useful, one must employ a reliable (and non-biased) methodology. I also hasten to add that averages and estimates do not make per se objectively reliable statistical numbers. I’m sure you’ll agree that if you’re looking for something (i.e., a result) hard enough, you’re sure to find it.
“The numbers” can be, and have been, spun just like facts. Public health is an area where medicine, politics and economics collide, and there is no question that the data was distorted and finessed by LA County. They had the motive, the means and the opportunity. Mrs. Lubben’s gloating PR implies that they also had the will to do it.

Mike South, boy do I have a lot to say to you. You were right AIM closed down. However, the staff at AIM were not idiots, well maybe upper management was. The staff at AIM went above and beyond the call of duty. You see, when you’re in the medical field you have to develop a hard heart. You can’t get emotionally involved with the patients. I quickly fell in love with so many people that would come in. Not just in the porn industry but with civilians also. We did care. It wasn’t about money or what they can do for us. We were extended family in a sense.
Paul was like a brother or best friend. You would see him and just want to jib jab for hours. Trust me he got into trouble for it also. Spending too much time on one person. Listening to them tell about their week, month or the exciting news that they are working because work is far and few between or when someone needed a ride home. How about the civilian who is scared because, they had a drunken one night stand.
Then you have Bobi who was more like a mother then an AIM employee. When she was in the other office people would just come in to talk even when their test wasn’t due. She opened her home up for people who needed a place to stay because there was no where else to go. Staying up all night because, some of the girls needed a mother to talk to.
I hope that one day someone will let you know Mike that not all of AIM was bad.

How about HPV, PID, trichomonis, the flu?
Is it illegal to knowingly HIRE someone with one of these diseases?
And since it is illegal to reqire pre employment screening for such diseases, how could anyone legally know one way or the other if the ocndition was pre existing?
Can you cite any specific law,that is being broken, aside from SOHA regulation 5193?
@Joe – Your queries use such imprecise language that full answers would be far too lengthy for a post on LIB. I’m not here to give dissertations to someone who has consistently demonstrated far more belligerence than sense.
I wrote of knowing, willful conduct. The nature of a defendant’s conduct is regularly determined by triers of fact. Pre-employment screening is beside the point. I was not writing about what a hypothetical person who contracted the performers for a scene knew — I was writing about what a hypothetical performer infected with a contagious/communicable disease knew before he or she exposed another. In other words, what did he or she know, and when did he or she Know it?
Have a look at California Health and Safety Code sections 120290 & 120291, and California Penal Code sections 12022.85 and 647f. These can be felonies or misdemeanors (depending on the circumstances), as I understand the law.
In any case, broader universal testing would mean less of a gray area — more information in the hands of performers means, among other things, less legal cover for intentional, willful, or potentially negligent acts. In short, safer performers at lower risk for infection.
I read what I want, I post where I want including here and on a few webmaster forums, gee I had no idea we were only allowed to talk in our own house.

That 66% quote is actually a CDC statistic for the general adult population, from several years ago.(mitch was quoting the cdc when she said that.) Of course if you had chicken pox or measles as a kid you will test postive for herpes. And many other viruses are in the herpes family, as we all know.

@Joe – While there are still some false positive results (up to 5%, is what I hear) for type-specific herpes tests, the VAST majority of inaccurate (false) HSV2 diagnoses derive either from 1) the non-type specific tests that used to be done commonly years ago, or 2) diagnoses made on the basis of visual inspection only (no serum test, no swab test).
To answer your question, the answer is NO as long as BOTH performers give informed consent. Volenti non fit injutria. They have assumed the risk.
