Performer Hunter Bryce Passes Away
LOS ANGELES — Adult performer Hunter Bryce has passed away, her agent confirmed Wednesday.
"I got the call about 3 a.m.," Type 9 Models owner Kevin told XBIZ.
The cause of Bryce’s death is not known, but she was found dead at her home in the Los Angeles area, her agent said.
"I know that she went to sleep and did not wake up," Kevin continued. "I notified her mother of this about a hour ago. Her mother had been trying to reach her."
Kevin, who has represented Bryce for scene bookings on and off for about three years, said that it had been some time since he had spoken with the 30-year-old Pittsburgh native "mainly because she was in the process of leaving Type 9 and doing something different."
"She still had plenty of phone calls coming in [to book her]," Kevin said. "She was a stellar performer. When she was on her A-game, you couldn’t slow her down. No one put the effort into it the way she did when she was on her game."
Kevin said that Bryce was a pleasure to represent.
"She was a very strong person in the respect that she wasn’t going to let anybody take advantage of her. She was a very giving person, very easy to work for," Kevin said.
He said that it was unclear whether Bryce had been considering leaving adult.
"She may have been wanting to seek different avenues in life," he said.
Bryce made her adult entertainment debut in Florida in late 2007 and performed in more than 70 titles for several top production companies. She was a former exotic dancer and personal trainer whose stage name was a tribute to her favorite author, the late Hunter S. Thompson.
An avid reader, Bryce had a double major at the University of Pittsburgh in non-fiction writing and literature. In a 2008 interview she said she at one time thought she would someday become a college professor teaching literature.
Born of Italian and Scotch-Irish descent, she also formerly worked in real estate, retail and marketing before getting into porn. She said she idolized classic Vivid Girl Briana Banks.
Kevin said those wishing to send their condolences to Bryce’s loved ones may email him at Kevin@Type9models.com.
AVN reports:
News broke of Bryce’s passing by way of a tweet Wednesday morning from male performer Tucker Slain, which read that Bryce “was not doing well personally,” and that “her roommate told me she was found dead this morning.”
Thanks Cindi. University of Pittsburgh in Writing and Lit, what a waste. That’s a great program, Michael Chabon(Wonder Boys, Kavalier & Clay) went there. Read Wonder Boys, its a great book and a quick read, Kavalier and Clay…well that will take you some time. This girl had some real potential, sad.
Larry, you act like it’s something to be ashamed of that she wanted to persue something where she could make money off of her sexual freedom and live on the west coast. Plus she had something to fall back on when everything was over. I can honestly no shit say she was one of my favorites. My thoughts go out to her and her family. Sleep well young princess.
I don’t think that’s what Larry meant, Griffin. We all have much more potential than the roles we are picked to play, if we are so fortunate to even get that far.
Modern times all too often presents confirmation of the opposite of what Aristotle claimed, that the whole is worth more than the sum of its parts.
For example, Lucky and a hilarious comedian we saw as the headline act at a comedy show, were both bit players in a horrible movie with an even more horrible title about Filipino family life called “Brown Soup Thing”. If you view each person separately, and not through the eyes of the filmaker and their trite, uninteresting roles, you’d see Lucky as a girl who has performed (sang and danced) on stage in Miss Saigon, was a cheerleader for the Chicago Bulls (as one of the “Luvabulls”) and also an adult peformer, etc. And if you saw the comedian on stage you’d realize the guy has got a lot more going for him than what that stupid movie ever gave him the opportunity to present. Life more often than not represses us from expressing our full potential because we’re forced to fit into as cogs within other people’s lousy wheels. Yes, Bryce had so much more potential, in lieu of her scholarly credits, but that’s not knocking her for being in porn.
Poor Hunter. She was my friend. I always got a kick out of her sense of humor. I hope she is a better place.
And yes, I totally felt like chopped liver in that movie. You’d see a way different person. That was before I saw the light and realized porn was my calling in life.
PS- Max Hardcore is looking for roommates if anyone is interested. I’m moving out.
Also Griffen, Larry is like the Mike & Mike of porn. He should have his own encylopedic website or talkshow because of all the tales he knows about the tails in adult.
I think Lucky should clarify she’s moving out because she wants her own place. Its not that Max has hit on her or anything. He’s actually very nice. Plus she’s gonna get another cat which would be probematic up there on the Mountain. It was a nice run when she and I had the whole place to ourselves when I’d spend weekends there (when Layla wasn’t around, which was most of the time). The view from upon the roof feels like you’re hovering above the Earth in a UFO. It was beautiful staring out at the world and the stars. And speaking of UFOs I swear it seems like I’ve seen one up there, way too bright and close to be a planet. Even the nearest homes across the street are way below the vantage point of the roof. On a rare clear day you can see the ocean, Catalina Island, Palos Verdes, fireworks going off at Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm, plus the mountain right behind us is awe-inspiring. I loved just waking up in the morning go outside the guesthouse backdoor and take a whiz while staring at the misty clouds hovering nearby which obscured the nearby mountain top. We saw a black bear hurring across the street while driving once, we’ve seen deer numerous times, peacocks, etc. Soon the whole house is going to be filled with new tenants. I wonder how many of them will know who’s house this really is!
This is really sad. I only met this pretty lady once through Galaxy Publicity but she seemed nice. RIP.
I did a search trying to find more information but all I found was one:
Bryce William Hunter who died March 30, 2011 in New Zealand… small world (Bryce, Hunter, death, 30, 2011).
WOW.
How the heck did she die? Drugs????????????
I’m still fishing around, according to one site,
“According to an interview with her friend Rachel Roxxx, Bryce had been struggling with alcoholism.”
So she drank herself to death??
Another site says,
Performer Rachel Roxxx, Bryce’s good friend for the past two years, said that she also received a call about Bryce early this morning and immediately drove to Bryce’s home, helping the coroner with information for Bryce’s family. Bryce lived with roommates who are not in the adult industry.
“She was a wonderful woman, had a heart of gold,” Roxxx said. “I will miss her dearly.”
the guy told me it was an overdose–i don’t think he was just a fan…
we’ll see the coroner’s report.
RIP, Hunter Bryce.
For anyone out there feeling depressed, try some 5HTP or get a Vitamin B12 shot (I know most don’t have insurance.) Someone should put together a list of free mental health resources for the industry as a whole and start tweeting the hell out of it. (Do not put Shelley on it!!!)
You should try to take advantage of those mental health resources yourself, Tara.
Im a lil late catching this news, and Ive been crying my eyes out all morning. She was an awesome person Ill miss her 🙁 RIP Girly
I’m suffering from depression
The anger turned within
What do I gain for all my pain?
Perhaps a seat in heaven?
Don’t do what you want
Do what your taught
Your life is built on paranoia and guilt
Don’t forget your valium tonight
The agony I must endure
My mind is painful and swells
How come what is natural
Has to be a sin?
Why would God give me this urge
If I cannot give in?
They say don’t give up
That Jesus loves me
But there are some things he doesn’t forgive
And I don’t deserve to live
My only wrong doing
Was being born human
And following my instincts
I was never happy
So I shall be extinct
At last I am pure
I don’t need anyone
My soul has been set free
RIP Hunter Bryce
Very Nice Goatlord. Did you create that yourself or was it something you saw and thought it would be a nice way of mentioning Hunter Bryce?
Thanks Karmafan. Actually a little of both.
The words are lyrics from a band and I just tweaked them up a little bit.
The band is called Carnivore. The song is called “angry neurotic catholics.” This came out in 1987 and was Peter Steele’s (RIP) band before he started Type O Negative.
Its off a CD called “Retaliation” (remastered version.) I heard it for the first time yesterday and played it all day as I cleaned my house.
If you like hardcore/crossover thrash with great lyrics and awesome riffs/songs structures…pick this up. Im sure this song is on youtube if you want to hear it…but be warned…it is a heavy mofo and not for the weak.
Anway, the more I heard the song, the more I kept thinking of Hunter Bryce and her passing. I have lots of friends in Pittsburgh so her death hit home in a way.
The people of Pittsburgh are some of the nicest, most down to earth you will ever meet. Whether you are downtown or in a grocery store, people you dont know say “hi” to you and are very cool and friendly.
The article says she one day wanted to become a college professor. I wonder if she had second thoughts about doing porn…that it might ruin her chances of ever being a professor due to background checks and her face being all over the internet.
You see stories all the time of teachers being fired after being discovered they did porn. I wonder if this weighed on her conscience…so she turned to drugs to numb herself.
Just a sad story all around.
Isn’t this like the second or third girl to “die” over there at Type 9?? Man, what luck!
Ironic. I never hear of Suicide Girls killing themselves.
Great choice of lyrics dude and well put there Goatlord quoting Carnivore, good to know I’m not the only metal fan here. I was going to quote Slayer, but couldn’t find anything tasteful.
Thanks Griffin
Yeah, Slayer lyrics would not work well here. I would save those for a Shelly Lubben story.
Anyway update on what the cause of death was?
@goatlord – Kudos.
@jeremy – The irony about “irony” is that, once you define something as ironic, is ceases to BE ironic (with all due respect to Alanis Morissette).
I thought Alanis Morissette was what women listen to while they’re p.m.s-ing.
@jeremy – Yes! LOL The old, unhappy Alanis Morissette. Not the “I’ve finally found love” Alanis Morissette.
We honored Hunter’s life at Worker’s Memorial Day in Los Angeles this past weekend. The Pastor also blessed and prayed over those who died. It was a humbling and special moment for all of us who are still alive.
You can read more about it at: http://www.thepinkcross.org/honoring-dead-porn-stars-workers-memorial-day
“Mourn for the dead, and fight for the living!”
@subben — Hopefully that pastor was indeed a real pastor, unlike you and Gary who were “ordained” in the Order of St. Martin, a “group” run by a man named Jeff Hetschel out of a single-family home in Mission Viejo, California. The requirements to become ordained (per his website): fill out some forms, get a letter from your local Body of Christ, and then ol’ Jeff (who, in real life, runs a coffee company called Mission Roaster) can lay his hand upon you, read from the Good Book, and voila! You’re now a pastor!
“Fight for the deceived, and vanquish the corrupt!”
PS: How does it feel to have started a new internet dance craze? (Thanks to Mike South)
When I die… I hope Rev. Shelley Lubben doesn’t honor or pray for me… Might curse me in the afterlife…
