First Round of HIV Tests are in for Patient Zero’s Partners

NL-If all 1st generation partners test negative, then all second generations are safe for sure.

HIV tests negative for porn actors who performed with ‘Patient Zero’
October 22, 2010 |  6:23 pm from LATimes
Officials at the San Fernando Valley clinic where a porn actor tested HIV-positive earlier this month said Friday that tests showed no other actors who performed with the individual have tested HIV-positive.

The actor tested HIV-positive Oct. 9 at the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, or AIM, in Sherman Oaks. Afterward, clinic officials created a quarantine list of performers who had worked with the porn actor — known as "Patient Zero" — and began testing them.

Late Friday, clinic officials notified Vivid Entertainment co-founder Steven Hirsch that test results came back for all of the performers who worked with the porn actor, called "first-generation" exposures.

"We can confirm that all performers who have been tested as a result of being exposed have tested negative," Hirsch said.

Vivid and several other porn production companies suspended filming after reports that the actor had tested positive.

Hirsch said Friday he still planned to wait for final test results for one of the first-generation performers to come back in the next two weeks before he starts filming again. "We are just being super-cautious," he said.

Hirsch said AIM officials would not tell him how many people are on the quarantine list or how many first- and second-generation exposures there are "due to confidentiality." Clinic officials also have  refused to confirm rumors that the actor is a man who worked in both gay and straight productions.
Hirsch said he trusts the private AIM clinic to provide quality services to performers and accurate testing information to producers.

"We are certainly encouraged by today’s news," he said. "We feel very confident that this has been contained."

AIM staff did not return phone calls Friday. A spokesman for the county public health department said it had no new information Friday.

Ged Kenslea, a spokesman for Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Network, which has pushed for more enforcement of condom use, testing and other safe-sex practices in the porn industry, said he was "certainly glad that no one else appears to be infected" but that this is not the time to "let the industry off the hook for irresponsible behavior."

"I don’t know if the person was infected in or outside the industry, but I don’t think the industry should be willing to sacrifice even one person to these infections," Kenslea said.

  1. I don’t think there is any “for sure” about anything. I flat out under no uncertain terms trust anything coming from AIM. There is just far to much that doesn’t add up about all of this but basically we don’t know anything for sure.

All we know for sure is that AIM is saying everything is fabulous and despite the possible hundreds and hundreds of possible exposures – some people are even estimating it could be as many as 1,000 – within a matter of two weeks everyone has been contacted and tested all safe and sound and the one guy who tested dirty infected not even his girlfriend, who herself had sex with at least 10 people in the past 30 days.

I don’t know. Life is far to precious to just assume what just one person says is ok. Especially considering her past, ethics and education levels has been called into question on more than one occasion.

Steve Hirsch says “We feel very confident that this has been contained.” but I don’t see how he can be so confident. There are just far to many other factors out there that don’t play into my confidence. I realize it’s costly to the industry as a whole to be down all this time, but wouldn’t it be even more costly if we find out that because we were to eager to jump right back into things without the use of condoms no doubt, that we infected 10 others?

Even 1 more infection is 1 to many. This isn’t just some STD like genital warts, which don’t get me wrong, IS bad, but this is people’s lives we are talking about. HIV is deadly. It’s not something to be risking right now.

Why not wait another 30 days?

Then take it one step further and request everyone who wants to work have a current test no more than 10 days old for at least a little while, just to be EXTRA sure.

  2. jeremysteele11 says:

The most you can claim at this point Kelli is that HIV can be deadly, not is. Like I said, there’s plenty of literature to support the point that many have HIV and never get sick… it might be more deadly to your career. I therefore recommend you refrain from any unnecessary freakouts, or encouraging others to do the same. Testing within every 10 days is not necessary but if that’s what you want to do, go for it. You can test every 24 hours if you like.

And please, if anybody has any stats out there claiming the chances of getting HIV from a bareback sexual HIV+ infected intercourse encouter being any higher than 0.3% please share, thanks.

  3. first of all very few companies have stopped shooting so the industry isn’t “down” at all.

AIM has muscled out all the other testing labs like Talent Testing and Dr Riggs to keep their prominence in the industry. Very few of the larger production companies will accept any other test than AIM which is fucking stupid IMO. If AIM’s primary concern is a healthy industry why would they care if a girl or guy goes to Talent Testing? They use the EXACT same technology that AIM does. They are more accessible in Florida than AIM is since they are based there and more and more companies are expanding to Florida for economic reasons.

I have heard that the quarantine list is over 80 people which is scary, but hey, think about it. EVERYONE has to be AIM tested so who does that benefit financially the most? AIM! Add as many names to the list as you can and count your money as they all line up to be tested at $170 each. Oh and multiple tests? EVEN BETTER!

I don’t trust AIM either for anything other than my test. I use them because I have no other choice sadly.

  4. Mariah says,,,,,”They use the EXACT same techonology.” (Talent Testing service)

This statement is 100% absolutely completely false. And the proof of this is right there on the test results themselves.

  5. And regarding getting tested at TTS or Dr. Riggs,,,,,what do you think they would do if a performer tested positive?

    would they,
    1. Make the name public
    2.Put out a q-list
3.Tell the ‘industry’ somone had tested positive
4.Remain absolutely silent, as is required by law!!!

    the correct answer is 4.

Mariah, how would that help the industry?

  6. Maybe this is a stupid question but…could it be possible all the first generation would test negative and somebody in the second generation would test positive(a real positive)?

  7. Heres a question for aya Leslei,

What if some of the ‘gay’ perfomers on the list decide to go to their own doctors to get tested,,,and AIM never gets those results?

What if some gay performers dont test at AIM because they dont want their names to get posted all over the internet?

What if some of the gay q-listers are already HI ????

What if some of the q–listers are going to TTS,,do you think they will ever make anything public?

Maybe thats why their statement says,,,We “BELIEVE” that everyone’s been notified and countinues to test negative.”

Privacy laws prevent AIM from getting results from elswhere, without consent, just like it prevents OSHA from getting them from AIM.

Oh what a tangled web we weave,,,,,,

  8. Leslie: If a first generation individual has the CCR5 delta 32 gene mutation – possibly.

  9. applesmith says:

You cannot catch anything from a healthy individual. You can have all the bareback you like. If both parties are healthy, nothing can be transmitted.

The use of percentages and figures is pure silliness. Percentages and figures don’t tell you anything about individuals. You should always consider the individual you’re working with, not some silly percentage.

Apply your criteria in a non-discriminatory way. Females should be judged just as critically as men. Straights should be judged just as critically as bisexuals or homosexuals.

  10. Well…I don’t know if one day we will ever know from where that patient zero did catch it…from working in porn or from his private life?
Here is an answer Bree Olson gave in a recent interview. It made me cringe.
    ——————————————————
Olson: Well, it’s a really horrible situation and I’m not going to try and downplay it at all. It’s obviously something that is real and is out there. However, we were educated right when it happened on what type of performer it was – someone on the gay side and they were working with straight people. It’s just a well-known fact – and I’m not trying to discriminate, I have gay friends and everything – but it is well-known that they are carrying it, that they’re not as careful on their sets, and it’s coming out that they don’t test as often on their sets.

And then they come over and they worked with some straight girls. AIM (Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation) – the company that tests all of us in the industry – they’re really great, they were on top of it, and they made sure to let everyone know right away. The person was obviously taken off of the AIM site and the people who were quarantined were taken off of the site.

It was contained so quickly and taken care of, and everyone – even if they knew that they weren’t affected by it – everyone went and re-tested to make sure. And tested again. Since the news has come out, I’ve tested three times – and lot of people have. I work with a lot of the same people all the time – it’s not that I try to, it just happens. So, when I’m working with more of the top-league performers, we know our responsibilities and to be careful when we’re off-set, because that’s another way you bring it into the industry. We’re all tested in the industry, so it’s whatever you’re doing outside the industry. Or, for example, on the gay side, if they’re not testing or being careful – or even if they are testing – they’re having sex with someone else outside and bringing it in. So, we’re all clean. We test all the time, we know we’re clean. So, it’s what people are doing off that bring it on.

But, I feel fine about it. Like I said, I work with responsible companies, responsible talent, and I feel safe. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t continue doing it. Of course, there’s always that risk and all of us know that there is that chance. But, that’s the exact same chance we’re taking if we were to use a condom with some guy we met at the club coming home – that condom could break. Anyone takes that chance the second that they have any type of sexual intercourse.

  11. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF PATIENT ZERO GOT IT ON SET OR OFF SET!!!!!

What matters is,,,after he caught it he bought it with him to every set he worked on after that….

OSHA doesnt care if HE got it on set,,,,OSHA is concerned with the EXPOSURES that did happen on set from this guy.

AIM, and the industry, keep using this,,,”DID he get it on set or his personal life,,,,and they know that means nothing…It is the same as when they say “We do ten thousand TESTS a year”..but dont mention that those 10,000 tests are done on 1500 epople.

The OSHA statute,5193,,REQUIRES EMPLOYERS to AY for post EXPOSURE follow up testing.

Performers like the one quoted above are what makes the risk level even higher,,,it is amazing how many performers are so ignrant of the facts regarding their own health,,,let alone the LAW.

And at todays meeting,,the gay and straight industry will officialy become ONE in the eyes of OSHA.

  12. RickMadrid says:

Mariah!! looks like TTS is it!! I highly recommened them and we use them in florida…AIM wants to charge like 389 buks in Miami…ouch…only 180 with tts…ok Love later….

  13. Nice to see Joe Blow delivering the gay-bashing card one more time. Actually…NOT.

If these test resultss are confirmed by followup testing, then it seems that the existing system is working as expected. Of course, some here would still insist that AIM is lying through their teeth and that there are still HIV+ performers — no check that….HIV+ GAY performers (for Joe Blow’s benefit) — rolling around infecting everyone in sight.

You’d think that people would be breathing a sigh of relief here…but i guess that some personal agendas can’t stand getting squashed by facts.

    Anthony

  14. I would say the industry gets away with their moribund system only because…it’s pretty hard to catch HIV.

  15. Does anybody know who patient zero is? This is bullshit…its been over a week now and with all this technology we should know who the fuck it is!

Is Steve Hirch’s involement mean its someone who performes in Vivid films?

I bet if Marc Wallice didnt get HIV he would still be performing. Dude was horny

  16. do you guys actually think AIM does the actual test? They send it out to be tested to an actual laboratory with test specifications as does TTS. DNA PCR is DNA PCR no matter who submits the blood specimen.

I go to a blood draw location in Clearwater, who takes my blood and urine sample, ships it overnight to AIM who then sends it out to their lab and then the results are back approximately 36 hours later. Smae goes for TTS but they do Syphilis and Hep B as well included in their standard panel.

  17. I was told by someone who has been doing porn since the 1970s that when Marc Wallace tested positive that Tom Byron warned Jill Kelly not to work with him because Sharon Mitchell had warned him…but didn’t make it public to everyone. To me that’s as fucked up as it gets. If she even had an idea he had tested positive she had an obligation to not allow him to work, but they were good friends and many say they were more…he was an addict and she was helping him get through it, whatever.

I don’t trust AIM, never have and never will. I think Sharon did a great thing by starting AIM but it’s far too involved in the politics of everything and has hurt the industry as much as hurt it in my opinion. Remember, I’ve been in this since before AIM existed.

  18. The President says:

Wallice was testing through other clinics and avoiding AIM. He presented negative results with irregular information, such as showing his date of birth as incorrect. Mitchell and Patrick Collins finally forced him to clear things up.

  19. RickMadrid says:

yeah Mariah! and they are making the bucks too!!

  20. Mariah says,,,”They send it out to an actual laboratory”,,,,DNA PRCR is DNA PCR no matter who submits the blodd specimen’

Again,,100% completely false,,,,TTS does NOT use the same test as AIm, and the PROOF is right there on the results themselves.

Mariah, the ‘characteristics’ of the TTS test is very different from the AIM test.

Where did you get this false idea that they use the same test?

Again, the PROOF of what I am saying is right on the tests themselves . If someone would like to post a link to a picture of a TTs test and an AIM test(names redactedof course) I would be glad to show you the difference.

  21. Regading risk level,,

EVERYONE IN THE PORN POOL OF WORKERS IS AT THE SAME RISK LEVEL AS THE RISKIEST PERSON IN THE POOL.

If you jump in the deep end you get wet with the same water that was just in the shallow water. (just an analogy)

Regarding a girls “NO” list,,,,talk about ‘false’ sense of security,,,GirlX says I dont work with Malex,,,,but Malex works with the other people who work with GirlX,,,there is not near enough ‘seperation’ to make any NO list effective.

Jerry and Applebag,,,you are both %^%^%(*&&^%^&%%%*%^#^*^holes

  22. Actually, your “false sense of security” argument is kinda disingenuous. It is harder for an infection (especially one as serious as HIV) to be transmitted undetected through 1st generation transmission to a 3rd party. It is entirely possible and happens all the time but it is less common than direct transmission. Frequent testing does not protect performers a whole a lot but it provides some protection.

That being said, you are right. It only takes a minority to dirty the talent pool and no communicative diseases should be acceptable in the industry. If that means condom only with testing–so be it. But lets not be like the gay side–we should strive for performers who are 100% clean and not overly rely on barrier protection.

Still, I’m opposed to increased regulation. I want the industry to change and not simply shift production to a different location. A ubiquitous condom-only protocol (for a trial period) should be sufficient and can be achieved when PERFORMERS DEMAND IT! Now is a good time to rally the troops. A lot of girls want to go condom only now.

  23. jeremysteele11 says:

Shut up Joe… consider these facts:

AIDS was originally called Gay Related Immune Deficiency (GRID). All these years later AIDS is still mainly in the same risk groups.

The Wall Street Journal and several other mainstream publications have acknowledged that federal health officials and “non profit” organizations skew AIDS statistics/lie because fear = more money/power. They lie yet we still buy! WHY???

The original discoverer of HIV, Luc Montangier, against his own financial and career self-interest said at an AIDS conference that “HIV might be benign”. But I know all of you, especially you Joe Know, know better! Why? Because you’re brainwashed and that proves you know what you know. Don’t pretend you’ve studied more than one point of view because if you did, you’d at least bring up the important points which show this terror circus is a $ham!

For years before the advent of AIDS, virus hunters made a living seeking a cure for cancer based on the hypothesis that cancer is caused by a virus. Once it was finally admitted that cancer is not caused by a virus, those virus hunters went out of work. In the meantime, Robert Gallo, who would later steal Luc Montagnier’s sample (an international incident/lawsuit between the U.S. and France, where Bob and Luc would split the profits for the antibody AIDS test Gallo invented) sought for years to hit the jackpot by proffering theories that a virus caused diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma (both which proved to be false). Any sensible person would never trust Robert Gallo to sell them a used car yet we all buy his still unproven theory on AIDS.

Before HIV, a virus has never hidden in the body for longer than a few months before causing a infection.

HIV in contradicting terms, is claimed to both kill T-cells and hide in the body for up to decades. If it kills the host T-cell then it couldn’t hide in the T-cell host.

Gays getting sick of Kaposi Sarcoma (one of 29 different old diseases associated with AIDS) correlates with the explosion of the liberated gay multi-sex partner bathhouse, club-drug, amyl-nitrate lifestyle of the 80s. When gays went to the doctor, they were first diagnosed with what became called GRID. Then someone linked the IV addicts diseases with GRID and it became AIDS. But who the fuck thinks IV addicts dying is really from a virus and not the highly toxic and deadly drugs they do? Why are drugs NEVER a factor to the virus hunters? Why? They’d go out of business if gays and drug addicts were dying due to their own lifestyle behavior and not a virus. You’d sooner find the industrial military complex telling us we should not bomb anybody.

LET’S STOP BELIEVING THINGS AND LET’S START LEARNING INSTEAD!

… Or is this simply too much to ask for, since your minds have been made up for you a long, long time ago?
