Porno Dan & XXXJay start their own tube site

NL- This sound like a good idea to you?  (thanks AW)

Los Angeles, California – As a result of partnership between noted adult industry executive and trailblazer Jay ”XXXJay” Quinlan and Immoral Productions the World First Advertising Supported Exclusive Content site www.StraightDowntheTubes.com launches.

Immoral Productions extensive catalog of 13 series will be able available for free on the www.StraightDowntheTubes.com. Among the series that will be available include never released before scenes from the 2010 AVN Awards Nominated Best Gonzo Series, “Cum Hunters”, Best Foreign All Sex Series, “Green Card Cuties” and Best Pro-Am Series, “Fuck A Fan”

Immoral Productions CEO “Porno” Dan Leal said, “When Jay approached me with this idea of going away from the traditional subscription based model and putting our content on the web for free, I thought it made perfect sense. Surfers today want to watch porn for free, so why not give them fresh exclusive brand new scenes to view every single day.”

“Rather than continuing to piss in the wind with trying to monetize subscription models, I decided to try something new and slightly drastic.” says Quinlan. “This project will change the landscape of exclusive content based adult websites. I approached Dan because I knew he was open minded enough to try this rather than sit around and complain about falling subscription based revenues like other producers.”
Immoral Productions Partner and Director Jim Powers chimed in, “We view this as the next phase in adult entertainment. I am very excited about the prospect of our movies been seen by millions of adults worldwide.”

Quinlan added, “I am excited about the fact that these tapes will be coming straight off the camera onto the web with very little editing. These guys use real people in their scenes – which add a whole new dimension to your viral marketing with such fresh content. Getting traffic will not just be old school traffic buys and SEO, though we will be doing plenty of that as well.”

Leal added, “We have always been risk takers and different than every other company out there. We are do live shoots every day of the week, and uses that same content on many different platforms including DVDs, broadcast and mobile. Our future plans to extend the site even include free live cam shows every day.”
“Yes, the important thing is we now have to attempt to monetize the site in every way possible. We are offering rock-bottom deals on advertising if you lock in the first three months. I am going to take your money and buy more traffic with it anyway”, adds XXXjay. “How can you beat that? We are reinvesting your money into your own ads!”

Look for a lot more additions to www.straightdownthetubes.com as the coming months develop.

If this is successful then it is likely the end of the webmaster affiliate program as we know it. Why pay a percentage of membership fees to adult webmasters to flog your program when you can go “straight to tube” (TM) for a cut of the advertising? This may be the next phase of “the end of porn” that the Colonel has often written about on this site.

  2. To whom are they trying to sell advertising?

They are trying to sell advertising to the industry — cam, dating, and toy sponsors. The sponsors in turn get spots on the tube which are targeted at porn surfers enjoying the freebies. Think of the way free TV works — today’s episode is brought to you by …

  4. So even though they are looking for *free* porn, they are expected to *pay* for cam and dating sites, and toys?

Yes, that is how the illegal tubes (with stolen content) work now. You can’t steal a cam show or a mail order dildo. You have to have a CC card.

The difference here is that a legit producer has given up on the “pay for membership” model and will now offer full scenes for free in hopes of recouping production costs (and hopefully a profit) from a slice of advertising. If others follow suit then it will be a HUGE change for the adult industry.

  6. Do the cam sites et al. pay for conversions (traffic that generates revenue) or for raw traffic (hits)?

Most cam sponsors give the affiliate an option of a one time payment or lifetime revenue sharing. Raw traffic (Pay Per Click – PPC) died a number of years ago.

Here is what I am trying to say in simple business terms:

    A. Membership Fees + Up / Cross Sales – Production Costs – Affiliates Fees
    B. Advertising Revenue – Productions Costs

Whichever is higher (A or B) will determine the industry business model for video. XXXJay and PornoDan are betting on B.

Thank you for taking the time to explain.

Seems like quite a gamble–one that the illegal tube sites don’t have to make. I wish them (Porno Dan and XXXJay) well.

XXXJay does know how to get traffic, but this is a huge gamble. People who use tube sites just don’t want to spend money for anything, the conversions for tube sites covered in dating and cam ads are not great.

After lurking for quite awhile here, I’d like to say that I find the Colonel’s remarks quite relevant and interesting regarding the affiliate program business model that so many webmasters are told will get them a cut of the porn action, but the question still remains, how can we compete with free? Real numbers are impossible to get, but I’d really like to know just WHO out here (not the big boys, but average websites with Goggle PR3 or so, make even $50/mo. as affiliates of paysites?) And if free is destroying the biz, how do the paysites stay up and running if no one signs up for memberships? I believe the Colonel asked this same question, that he also was mystified about that. I am too. Any further thoughts about this? I agree that the camgirl setup will also probably fail for various reasons. Is there really any sense for anyone to sign on as an aff anymore and if not, how can a porn review site for instance monetize in light of the free porn deluge? DVD’s are going under, tube sites everywhere…how or why do paysites continue to stay online? I respect the Colonel’s views, he’s obviously a highly experienced person who knows the difference between fantasy and reality….thanks!

  13. Based on absolutely ZERO evidence (LOL), I think a significant percentage of a membership site’s revenue comes from customers who purchase a trial membership and unknowingly have it convert to a recurring membership. When the charge appears on their credit card statement, they either don’t recognize it, or they don’t want to go through the hassle of having it reversed.
