FBLA Exclusive: Why Didn’t CNN Cover a Protest of CNN?
By Tina Dupuy on Nov 10, 2009 09:11 AM
(Good story Tina!)

From http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlLA/

Last Thursday there were protests outside the CNN buildings in three cities for the public option aspect of health care reform. The protests organized by Democracy for America and The Young Turks were asking CNN to paint a more accurate picture of what polls say the American people want.

Anyway, CNN was protested in three cities and they mentioned nothing about it.

A spokesperson for CNN told FBLA, "CNN did send a crew; however, there was major breaking news at Ft Hood that dominated our coverage that day."

We asked The Young Turks, Cenk Uygur what he thought of their explanation. He responded, "The NY and Atlanta protests were before the Ft. Hood shooting and they didn’t even send a camera down to cover those. We were trying to encourage the most "trusted name in news" to report what the great majority of Americans and their own CNN polls indicate — the American people definitively want the public option. I hope they didn’t neglect this important issue because their feelings were hurt that we asked them to cover this issue a little more clearly."

And they have mentioned the protest or "press conference" in Washington against the public option/government/Obama/accurate Nazi metaphors.

  1. Is funny how the term Demcracy is used in the same way the now defunct RDA used it 20 years ago.
20 years and two days ago the Wall came down. Obama choosed not to be there, the only western leader not to go.

But he did travel to Europe to bid for the Olympics for Chicago and he will travel to bet his underserved Nobel price.

Maybe the end of the Wall was a sad date for the Premier.

I expect this comment to be published.

  2. The typo in the title of this piece is delightful. 😀

  3. Real Luke Ford Fan says:

    Harvey Dent,

Did you hear what happened at Fort Hood? In Dubya’s home state of Texas? Let’s remember Veteran’s Day too.

    NL,

‘CNN Hypocrates on Health Care?’ Isn’t it supposed to be ‘CNN Hypocrites on Health Care?’?

Perhaps CNN didn’t want to appear like Fox and ‘create’ news, instead of simply ‘covering’ the news. For if citizens want to make their views known, why not just march on Washington DC, or their local politician’s offices, or the corner grocery store, instead of infront of a media outlet (which is a lot like complaining to the slaughterhouse for the shitty Burger King meal you just ate). Instead, Democracy for America and The Young Turks were doing a media stunt, like those at the Town Halls and Tea Parties.

As for Obama not going to the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, it’s was yet another example of “damned if you, damned if you don’t”. If he’d went, the Right/GOP would have hammered him for somehow ‘inserting’ himself into an event he had little to do with (ignoring the fact, that the other leaders who went were not around 20 years ago). They did much the same when he went to Europe for the recent D-Day celebrations (whining how he had something to do, when he didn’t, with England’s Queen not getting an invite!).

They’d also gone and on and on about Obama’s Ego getting in the way of the festivities. They’d griped that he’s ‘yet again’ ignoring America’s problems and galavanting around the world to give speeches.

So he stays in the White House, and sends the Secretary of State (which is probably the better protocol move since this isn’t the 25th or 50th anniversary and if the 20th is such a ‘big deal’, where was the celebrations for ‘freedom’ five/ten or even fifteen years ago on those ‘anniversary markers’?!). Yet somehow this isn’t ‘good enough’ for his critics. Now he’s somehow snubbing history, democracy, freedom, Reagan, Gorbachev, Apple Pie, Carrie Prejean, Christianity, Lawrence Welk, and fans of Xena: Warrior Princess!

Good grief, when when it ever end…!
