Being a bona fide Porn Star myself, there is nothing that irks me more than to see some webcam girl in bum fuck calling herself a Porn Star. Ok I’ll give them “internet Porn Star” as it wouldn’t be too far off but to me a Porn Star is someone who has been in titles you can rent in video stores or on Pay per View or late night Skin-a-max movies.
I think that Amateur porn does a great job and there are a lot of amateur girls who have made far more money than porn stars and have become household names, without question. However when the cam girl names herself, oh we’ll use the name D###### as an example and calls herself “Your girl next door only hotter” I want to puke! What girl next door is named D######? Maybe the stripper next door but not the “girl” next door. Not anywhere I’ve lived anyway.
The new wave of porn is far different than when I started back in
1998 at the age of 18. Back then the porn division of the internet didn’t exist in Porn Valley and not until 2000 did I even get an offer to shoot for anything involving the internet. Everyone then was saying “Don’t shoot internet stuff!” and “it’s low end and will bring your rate down”, basically saying it wasn’t good for girls to shoot it. I did anyway because I was a greedy little bitch with a bad shopping habit and one guy with a camera was no different to me than another. I signed over the rights to everything back then anyway so what the fuck did I care where it showed up?
None of the porn girls had websites and none of the big companies were getting involved in a big way that I knew of. Back then the amateur girls were proud to be called amateur girls. They wanted to be amateur because that was the greatest marketing scheme ever!
Porn Stars weren’t making money online and DVD ripping and all the tube sites didn’t exist so it wasn’t easy to find your favorite Porn Star’s videos online so the only alternative was to find an amateur girl you liked and go that direction. They even did the webcam shows and interacted in real time with their fans making custom photos and videos while we, the real Porn Stars, wore fake eye lashes and pretended to be in outer space fucking on rocks in the Chatsworth desert. I understand the draw it had for sure. If I was a horny man looking for satisfying porn then I would have been right there with them.
These days Porn Stars are everywhere online. Doing cam shows, running their own websites, appearing at internet conventions meeting fans and selling merchandise on auction sites everywhere. The DVD industry has been replaced with the huge online sites like Bang bros and Brazzers so now the dominance has balanced out and I think that the Porn Stars have taken over as the biggest internet draw. The original amateur girls are older now, not online any more or just leaving their sites up to run out the rebills. Plus, Porn Stars are appearing in main stream films and have become cool enough to not be outcast by the mainstream media any longer, but actually embraced. People magazine did a 5 page article on Jenna Jameson for Christ’s sake!
So now that the tables have turned and the amateur girls suddenly have lost their dominance in the online industry they are now calling themselves Porn Stars.
Is anyone who has sex on camera and sells it in any format a Porn Star? I definitely think not. To me Porn Stars are an elite group of girls who call shooting a sex scene “working” and get their HIV and STD tests every 25 days and have agents and feature dance and sign autographs and get too much plastic surgery lol (I’ve only had my tits done by the way!)

First off Mariah. You obviously don’t know SEO worth a dam. Your SEO score really doesnt mean anything. It is just telling you how well Google rates the search quality of your site. That said for simple purposes rates in the 1.2 millions on Alexa yours is in the 55k range. For adult purposes neither are great but yours is better. This probably has to do with the amount of named girls that are on your site.
In reality both of your sites really aren’t doing that well.RavenRiley.com is at 44k on alexa and that is really low still she used to be in the 8-12k range about a year ago.
Next probably both of you are having some one do your site for you an affiliate program or a company. If your actually doing it yourself shooting your content, editing, photoshop, running your own affiliate program and actually know how to use the software then I am amazed. If so then your not giving up a massive portion of the hard earned money your body has been fucking and sucking for.
Mariah there are many definitions of a porn star these days. When I started in this business the true definition in 1992 was the women that where doing film with dialog and could actually act. Kiesha, JR Carrington, Crystal Canyon, Celeste, Woody LONG, TOM Byram , Rocco Stifferdi You might be able to include Jenna Jameson in this but as an old school person I still have a hard time with that one. Again, I’ve seen MM a number of times in movies but it doesn’t make someone a “star” to be in a number of disposable fuck flicks. I don’t think it makes sense to equate numbers of titles=”star” either because for every gal in a couple hundred movies is a Jesse Jane, Jenna Jameson, or even Stormy Daniels that are known outside of their respective area of expertise (sorry Sammy, to be a star, you really have to stand out in terms of quality, not quantity, and be known outside of a small clique). yes I agree about Alexa but it’s certainly a guideline. I use Compete for more accurate traffic and compare to AWSTATS on my server. I find it’s always off but not too far off ya know?

Your eye path movements according to your design to trigger a buy are way off. Just looking at your tour page code there is a ton you could do to make this site much more SEO friendly.
These are all things that are critical to getting a website to SEO and function at the optimal level.

Its for sure true about Alexa as far as pinpoint accuracy, but if your score is over a million you arent getting traffic and thats just a fact. I will say that my daily sales average went up more than 10 signups a day while my alexa went from 22k to 55k where it is now approximately so that is for sure no indication of exact traffic, but again, it is a guideline.

I know that a company I worked for about a year ago was making close to 2 million a month on 12 websites. Really only 4 of those sites where pulling in the major traffic.
Solo girl websites a good site will make from 50k -150K Plus a month. In these economic times that could be a bit off. Reality of adult is that the girl has to have a great personality of the guys get turned off very fast personality really sell.

Darrah, site owner profits vary. I remember back on 03-04, the people respectively owned FTVGirls and Lightspeed were rumored to have made over 1 million a year. Lightspeed ran Tawny Stone’s site. 50K a year is good money for a web model. In NYC, high fashion models on average make 50k and if you factor in what they pay agencies, cost of living, etc, they walk away with maybe half that. The girl that is ‘Tawny Stone’ lives in AZ and made almost 100k one year. She was able to pay for school and buy a house. Melissa Midwest has made six figures for a few years because she runs her site by herself after getting ripped off when she first started modeling online. If a girl is hot AND smart, they can make a fortune.
It really doesn’t make sense for a porn star to have a paysite, because if there are 20 or more scenes of hers online on sites like Bangbros, AEBN, etc, people will buy those instead, because of the amount of extra porn they will get in the purchase (for example, why would anyone join Jayden Jaymes’ paysite she is planning when they can see her in about 20 good scenes on Brazzers? ). I like the physical media realm myself, most of the internet companies plagued by transmission problems, substandard pictures when sent over the net (remember, I have cable internet too), and the sheer difficulty of finding what I want at most internet-only company websites. When the internet companies started releasing DVDs, typically in “best of” compilation form, I grew to enjoy several of them a lot more than others even when the technical stuff wasn’t as good as the shot-for-DVD stuff. You may get scenes online cheaper and get more of them but a much higher percentage are crappy to begin with so it balances out. 😉

Some one brought up lightspeed and tawny stone making 50k a month. I know these numbers are after the 50% take after lightspeed took there 50%. I don’t know if part of that was content costs and other things. I suspect it was all inclusive.
Also many of these girls don’t know the real potential and get deals where they are guaranteed a monthly fee for shooting and then that is it. Like a 100 sets. Then if the site ever needs more content the just hire them by the set amount.
It isn’t how much an affiliate program is used, it is how. Look at Vivid’s affiliate program, it is crap, because they don’t update the promo content with relevant updates. Everytime they put out a movie, they should put some soft stills in the content area, but they won’t do it. Each Vivid girl used to have her own tour in the affiliate area, but they got rid of that. Why? I have no idea, but it was the best sales tool they had.

For once I have to agree with Steele.
As he pointed out in his op/ed, real ‘stardom’ doesn’t concern itself with having to constantly prove/discuss/show et cetera one’s actual level/amount of stardom. Those who are not stars do have to repeatedly tell others they are…because no one is buying that they are. Real stars simply are; and most likely far to busy being stars to concern themselves with what anyone else thinks.
