Fact:
AIM Healthcare has been successfully taking care of the industry, and sexually active folks, since 1998. When we started the disease rate in the Industry was by our count (the accurate one), 12%. Why you heard on the radio and in the fish wrap from LADHS that the number of HIV cases had changed from 16 to18 cases, to "we really can’t be sure", is because the day after it was reported, AIM received frantic calls from LADHS demanding that we re-send the civilian HIV records dated between 2004-2009, is because LSDHS had "misplaced" them. (Accuracy in figures? Huh….). Well, AIM does not "misplace records", thank you very much.
Fact:
AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Michael Weinstein, is braying statistics on STD infections from the Adult Industry quoted from LADHS, that are duplicates of patients who retested after medicated to see if the meds had taken effect yet, and they could return to work. These patients’ retests have been counted as new cases by LADHS.
Fact:
This last case of HIV has been overseen by our HIV specialist, our Medical Director, and both of our staff Doctors, in conjunction with our wonderful staff, and our three Laboratories. No mistakes or false reporting whatsoever, on behalf of AIM.
Fact:
This last HIV case WAS NOT A WORK PLACE EXPOSURE. (Industry folks do have private lives you know) As a result of our investigating up to fourth generation partners, which equated to fifteen potential exposures who were contacted within 36 hours, and thanks to AIM’s early detection testing, NO ONE IN THE INDUSTRY HAS COME UP POSITIVE, NOR ARE THEY EXPECTED TO!

Now we have OSHA so far up our butts we have a sore throat. We are being harassed, ridiculed, publicly humiliated and slandered by our own Health Department, who is terrifying our patients by double and triple investigating people who have long been medicated for STD’s, as well as their partners (we wonder what that is costing CA?). We are paying more lawyers then staff, and we have a competing HIV testing clinic executive jumping to a conclusion so far, he may break a leg.
Final Fact:
The early detection test that AIM uses, (which came back within twenty four hours) had detected the HIV infection so early, that it took seven days for AIM to get a report back from the lab that is acceptable by LADHS. The LA County HIV Dept. does not accept AIM’s confirmatory tests until we submit the result of the test that they insist upon, which is why it took seven days for LA County to receive the initial report. Not that anyone in this office was purposely waiting or failing to "cooperate" or "just sitting around while people are dying". In fact, this HIV case was detected so early that it is doubtful that any viral load was present to transmit, and thankfully, has not.
AIM uses up to twelve HIV/STD confirmatory tests with each patient when this happens. AIM repeats this protocol periodically, and frequently, at AIM’s own expense, with each patient to insure the accuracy as well as insuring that our patients are not infected.
Reality is that the standard HIV test that LADHS uses may not yet have even shown positivity, and by the time the County clap chasers got on it, the whole industry would be dying.
AIM cares so much about the health of industry workers that seth dickens and the rest of the quarantined performers are already back to work.
I don’t fully agree with AIM specially when it comes to issues such as the HIV quarantine period, but still I prefer AIM to handle the adult industry’s health related matters instead of the county and state officials. Ultimatelly, it doesn’t matter who oversees the health related issues in this industry. Adult industry workers as individuals must be self aware and make decisions based on knowledge and precaution and take responsibility for their actions and the consequences of their actions.

I agree with The Colonel on this one – AIM is not “Team America Porn Police”, it IS up to the performers to be self-aware and self-educated as to what is going on – but how many young women coming to LA to chase their dreams are told to read the porn blogs and message boards? How many of these newbies even own a computer? Though a few studios and agents may educate their talent, few do.
I think it’s not entirely correct to say that this current HIV issue to say that it’s not an industry/”work place” occurrence because some of the people who had exposure are people who later went on to work in the “porn workplace” – one in particular who made a “statement” as to his status is well known at this point and is actively working so from my perspective it is currently definitely a workplace issue.
I also think it’s not entirely correct for AIM to say that no one who had exposure is “expected” to come up with an HIV detected/positive test in the future, because unless they have Miss Cleo or Avi Gellar on staff, I don’t see how they can accurately predict what will or will not come up in an individuals test in the future.

Yes, there are more sensitive and accurate STD tests in existence, however if you simply Google “HIV” you will find that HIV, like other viruses can remain dormant for an extended amount of time and it has been theorized (I’m not certain if it’s been proven) that the virus can mutate. Can and do these new early detection tests account for every possible strain and mutation?

Right now we’re only about 2 months into what could be an incubation period of the virus for some of the individuals who have had exposure. I hope that AIM’s expectations are on point.

It differs from the three known strains of human immunodeficiency virus and appears to be closely related to a form of simian virus recently discovered in wild gorillas, researchers report in Monday’s edition of the journal Nature Medicine.
The finding “highlights the continuing need to watch closely for the emergence for new HIV variants, particularly in western central Africa,” said the researchers, led by Jean-Christophe Plantier of the University of Rouen, France.
The three previously known HIV strains are related to the simian virus that occurs in chimpanzees.
The most likely explanation for the new find is gorilla-to-human transmission, Plantier’s team said. But they added they cannot rule out the possibility that the new strain started in chimpanzees and moved into gorillas and then humans, or moved directly from chimpanzees to both gorillas and humans.
AIM does not care about the talent at all, and are risking lives. I am no fan of the government, but someone needs to stop what is going on. The woman currently shows no signs of AIDS and remains untreated, though she still carries the virus, the researchers said.
How widespread this strain is remains to be determined. Researchers said it could be circulating unnoticed in Cameroon or elsewhere. The virus’ rapid replication indicates that it is adapted to human cells, the researchers reported.
Their research was supported by the French Health Watch Institute, the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis and Rouen University Hospital.
A separate paper, also in Nature Medicine, reports that people with genital herpes remain at increased risk of HIV infection even after the herpes sores have healed and the skin appears normal.
Researchers led by Drs. Lawrence Corey and Jia Zhu of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center found that long after the areas where the herpes sores existed seem to be clear, they still have immune-cell activity that can encourage HIV infection.
Herpes is marked by recurring outbreaks and has been associated with higher rates of infection with HIV. It had been thought that the breaks in the skin were the reason for higher HIV rates, but a study last year found that treatment of herpes with drugs did not reduce the HIV risk.
The researchers tested the skin of herpes patients for several weeks after their sores had healed and found that, compared with other genital skin, from twice to 37 times more immune cells remained at the locations where the sores had been.
HIV targets immune cells and in laboratory tests the virus reproduced three to five times faster in tissue from the healed sites as in tissue from other areas.
“Understanding that even treated (herpes) infections provide a cellular environment conducive to HIV infection suggests new directions for HIV prevention research,” commented Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.
That study was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Tietze Foundation. ‘

Well Sammy, some girls do their home work before coming to LA and some don’t. There was this British girl for example who came to the States and became a very successful performer and made good money. On her arrival, she signed up with an agency whose name I won’t mention. They sent her to a Max Hardcore shoot and told her she’s going to work with a guy named Paul Little without mentioning his infamous stage name or the type of scenes he shoots. She had done some research before coming to LA, so when she went on the set, she recognized Max Hardcore, called her agent and told him she won’t work with this guy and walked out.
It might take a while to learn the complete 101 information about the valley, but if somebody wants to know the basics and obvious pitfalls in the adult industry, he/she can learn that by doing some basic research and reading a couple of news and gossip web sites. Some do that and some don’t. In the end, to each his/her own.
