I have some sketchy info. I’ll give you what I have heard and you guys might be able to fill in the blanks a bit for me. AVN laid off more employees. I have confirmation that it did happen, but I don’t know any details at all. Paul Fishbein is on vacation.
VUDU laid off about 15 of it’s 100 employees also last week.
VUDU is a box like AppleTV that allows you to purchase and watch movies, as VOD, including adult movies. They slashed the price on their equiptment and have been cutting the charge for movies, some to as low as .99 cents.
One year ago AVN launched it’s own channel on VUDU.
Whether these two companies both laying off staff at the same time has anything to do with each other or is just a coincidence I don’t know.
Nice to see Paul is on vacation, he deserves it, lets hope it becomes permanent. I would love to know what Paul pays himself. Must be a lot as its never been spent on writing talent, with the exception of Dirty Bob, and I still wonder how much it cost for that airbrushed photo of Gene Ross they used to post in the ’90s, wonder if Gene has that hair on a styrofoam head somewhere.
As far as I know, AVN and VUDU both laying off staff at the same time has nothing to do with each other. AVN has been in a financial loss for the past few years, and they’ve been laying off people and cutting their expenses constantly. As for VUDU, they’re just another crumbling internet company along with Entice TV, Video Box and many other modern day losers whose moronic business models were dommed to fail from the day one.
AVN I have no clue about.
VUDU is like the rest that deal with cable or intenet porn. Most of them are dealing in recycled porn. Some of this stuff is so old that my parents might of watched it. Reality is that when you can get something for free with little to no trouble most people will not pay for it. Thus is the issue with adult. Everyone seems to have forgotten that in the dictionary there is a word ” EXCLUSIVE”. If you have an exclusive product that you can’t get anywhere else. Plus you use a system to safe guard against it being downloaded other then for viewing on a player with zero capture capabilities. Then you make money. In adult you can’t really use the ad networks to make money such as in mainstream. So your basically stuck out in a losing business.
Until adult gets very smart and changes the way it does business more people will go out of business.That is fact.
