ADAM & EVE POSTS 1st QUARTER SALES AND PROFITS INCREASE!

Despite the economic downturn, Adam & Eve posted an increase in sales and a nearly 30% spike in profits over first quarter 2008.
“We are pleased to be able to succeed in these uncertain times,” says Chad Davis, Director of Marketing for Adam & Eve. “We attribute this upswing to our success in transitioning our business from print to web, and to improving our efficiencies in the online marketing area.”
From January to April 2009, Adam & Eve sales generated from email almost doubled, and there was a 65% increase in sales generated from radio and new media. Conversely, sales from the catalog were down considerably because of cutbacks in mailing frequency.
“Smarter marketing along with our deep and broad product line gave us a very good first quarter,” summarizes Davis. “We are finding that our online marketing is more efficient than print. This gave us a lower advertising expenditure for the first quarter, which affected the bottom line.”

Adam & Eve are doing relatively well at DVD sales, but their main profit comes from selling novelties, toys, lingerie, etc. They’ve been in the novelty business for years, and were smart enough to understand how the market is changing and DVD sales are becoming less profitable. Hence, they focused their advertising and marketing on novelty sales.
Last night I was watching the X-Files re-run on Sci-Fi channel, and I saw their ad during the program. It mainly focused on novelty sales, there was no mention of DVDs and such, only toys, clothes, etc. They’re doing something right, that’s for sure. But they’ve been doing this for a long time, they’re a unique company and can’t be used as a business models for other studios who mainly produce movies and don’t have a novelty sales branch.
And they finally hired two contract girls that while having a lot of drama off the set, so far have proven reliable in the set and do anal. But of course, DVDs are not their main business anyway.
I’m in their affiliate program (which needs fixing) and 90% of what people order from them is toys. The DVDs are really just an upsell, like webcams, etc.
