Although many of the big companies, such as Vivid Video and Wicked Pictures, offer free clips to entice viewers to buy the full movie online, Ford claims that only one in a thousand viewers actually whip out their wallets.
Ford thinks that some of the changes planned by the industry, such as video-on-demand, higher-quality design of the DVD boxes and mobile phone cybersex, will not make any difference to their sagging profits. "It doesn’t matter what the industry does — it’s screwed in terms of profitability," he say. "There is a ton of free stuff floating around and the amateur stuff — people filming themselves in their bedrooms and posting it online — is not going to go away. It will just keep growing."

Its the fact that the industry has been so slow to embrace online distribution systems that has resulted in the “so called” drop in sales. If I have to go to the store, buy porn and then bring it home, there are 20 things that will stop me from making a porn purchase. I’ll take an inferior free product that is convieniently available on the internet instead. But if a superior product is available online on VOD, I will buy that over the free stuff.
Seems to me a lot of people are doing the webcam whoring thing. Plenty of people doing it for free as well. Personally I find it hilarious and alienating. It is amusing to hear what people who have been in or around the industry for maybe a whole 2 years or less say, especially the talent. Which now days turns over fast. I call them the 5 min. experts. You know the type. They get into something and right away they know it all. Did I say amusing??
