This girl makes $100k a month as a cam girl?

I read an article today that was titled, “Meet the 26-Year-Old Who Makes Over $100K a Month as the World’s Hottest Camgirl”.

Obviously with a headline like that, how could I not read the full article? I mean $100,000 a month as a cam girl? Damn! That’s impressive by anyone’s standards. But is that even possible?

I then remembered the screenshots from the leaked (or so called leaked) My Free Cams incident and they claimed that in the first 10 months of 2015, their highest paid performer was making somewhere around $70,000 a month – so yeah maybe it is possible.

So I kept reading the article ….

She’s the reigning queen of an adult industry you know nothing about — or aren’t publically willing to admit you know. Her sultry French accent only adds to her mystique, and with some of the things she can do with her body … well, it’s no surprise her fans keep going back for more. This green-eyed, fiery-haired vixen’s name is Ophelia Marcus, but tens of thousands of webcam fans know her as LittleRedBunny.

The now 26-year-old (today is actually her birthday) has been at the top of her industry since taking home the award for “Webcam Girl of the Year” at the 2013 Sex Awards and the 2014 AVN award for “Favorite Webcam Girl” — now she’s up against 15 nominees for AVN 2015’s “Best Solo Girl Website.”

There’s intrigue in everything she does, whether it’s her burlesque style, how she dominated an emerging adult industry, or the fact that she can rake in more money a month than most executive positions make in a year — all from her computer at home.

Webcamming is the new medium drawing people from streaming porn sites and it’s redefining what it means to go into business for yourself. While it’s not free for viewers, camming offers a level of intimacy and interactive play that most sites cannot — and people do pay, some for hours at a time.

On LittleRedBunny’s website, for example, a private chat costs $4.99 a minute ($5.99 for two-way audio), and she tells me that those sessions can last anywhere from five minutes to 19 hours. She can also be found dancing and entertaining in her free chat area with as many as 2000 members at a time.

“Online I would say [I work] an average of 12 hours a day, though I have done up to 17-19 hours many times,” she explains.

By my calculation, at an average of $5 a minute for 12 hours of only private sessions each day, she could theoretically make $3600 a day, or just over $100,000 a month, though that level of work would be insanity. Of course a percentage of her earnings goes to the cam site, and monthly plans for private personal picture sets, videos, and the chance to learn more about LittleRedBunny are also available from $25.99 to $35.99 a month.

A proud New Yorker (with a French accent) who has been webcamming on her own site for a year now, she explains that she keeps a lot of her life very private because, well, it’s on camera for most of the day. To get the mysterious details about where she comes from, you’ll have to book a private session with her.

But how did LittleRedBunny rise to the top of the webcamming industry? It might be her excellent people pleasing skills — it’s rare for her to declare something too kinky. “If someone requests something that is a little beyond what is possible (which is very rare), I always offer the closest compromise.” Her website also makes her request policy clear:

“Since my mind is way naughtier than you think and chances are that the most obscure fantasies will only make me very wet and beyond!”
It could also be the unique atmosphere she sets. Clad in lingerie, the camera is positioned square on her bed. Louis Armstrong plays in the background, giving off an elegant speakeasy vibe of the 1920s Prohibition era. Whether it’s erotic poses, playing with the sex toys she keeps in a bag by her bed, or even bathing in a small pool on her bed for all to watch, things are always kept elegantly stimulating and it’s clear how different this industry is from porn.

“I am simply myself. Maybe because I have always been a very passionate person, so with everything I do, I always give all of myself and beyond … It is like a gathering of friends, and I am simply an erotic host who provides a stimulating show at the same time.”
But putting your life on camera isn’t exactly a simple matter. When it comes to skills necessary for the job, LittleRedBunny tells me about the level of focus and self-esteem all camgirls need to be successful.

“Being able to multitask and being versatile I think is really important, and that is maybe not a given to everyone, so that could be hard for some. When you do this, I think it is important you have a good self-esteem and a high level of confidence, because there will always be some people who go around to troll the girls, and it’s important to not take that personally and be hurt by it.”

LittleRedBunny is 100 percent self-taught. She tells me that she came across webcamming one day while looking for ways to work from home when she saw ads for girls “live” on cam. She didn’t believe it at first, so she checked it out and the idea grew on her. On her eventual decision to go with it, she tells me, “I got the required equipment, jumped in and learned everything on my own by trial and error since day one.” The unique poses that her fans love come from a background of yoga and ballet.

So what has five years in the industry taught her? Catering to men (and women) of many different persuasions, her people skills must be top notch.

“It opened up my eyes a lot and taught me humility … Starting from the bottom of the ladder in this business, I learned to be very patient, understanding and dedicated. Nothing ever came to me easily, and I always had to give a lot of myself to achieve something, and it seems like it worked.”
The personal life of a camgirl is also tricky. You don’t exactly advertise to your friends what you do all day. In fact, you rarely go out. LittleRedBunny told me about the double life she has to live.

“Yes, a bit of a double life for me anyways. People around me don’t know what I do, but I am fine with that. I like to work at night, so I guess I don’t go out much with people, but I decide all my hours and I can work whenever I want.”
LittleRedBunny is currently campaigning to get votes for the 2015 AVN webcam award. Her social media savviness may be to blame for her previous wins. “Besides that, I only do what I always do, which is to have fun with people, with the exception I let them know they can vote me if they want to. You can vote here.”

I asked how long she plans to be webcamming. The work is fun and the money is good, but being the free spirit she is, the world is her oyster. “This is still a mystery to me, and I am not too good at making plans. LOL. I have always been more of the spontaneous type, and I am always ready to explore more things.”

It seems like you keep your personal life very private because much of it is public, but what can you tell us about where you come from and your background?

“If you are asking about my origins, I always tell people that they are welcome to come in a private chat with me if they want to know more private things about me.

As for my background in relation to my career in camming, I have done ballet and yoga before, and many other art forms since my childhood. I have also always been very social and interested in people’s psychology, philosophies, etc. I find it interesting how all the things I have touched and explored since my young age has given form to my style of entertainment by combining all these elements together, without really realizing it in the first place.”
Along with your awards, you have been called the “Queen of Webcams.” What do you think makes you so unique from the thousands of others in the business?

“Hmm. I am simply myself. Maybe because I have always been a very passionate person, so with everything I do, I always give all of myself and beyond. I have always stayed true to myself and kept my integrity, even if quite the opposite is what some might expect would be required to really succeed in this medium. I truly love what I do, and I really enjoy the people I meet when I am online. My guess is that those visiting me feel we get to create genuine connections together, very strong bonds and many long-lasting friendships. Also in my free chat area, which can easily be up to 2000 people together, I really provide entertainment while interacting with each and every single person as much as possible. I have always created an atmosphere that to me is the most suitable to make people feel cozy, while I warm them up with teasing and dances. I use that mood to tease their senses with sensuality and eroticism in a manner that is still artful while mostly playful and fun.

Many guests in my room say it reminds them of a real speakeasy, as they come to have a drink with me and listen to my old jazz music while we all kind of party together to the point where there are many visitors who talk among themselves. So it is like a gathering of friends, and I am simply an erotic host who provides a stimulating show at the same time.

The passion I have, along with how much I enjoy myself and the genuine friendly proximity I have with people also enhances the time and pleasure we have when we go 1-on-1 in private chat. I have also always been fascinated in exploring and experimenting with fantasies and ways to increase pleasure. So on the sexual and fantasy level, the communication and the exchange can generally be very good, and develop very fast and strong. I am lucky that so many keep returning to me over the years, and it is real relationships and pleasure which keeps growing through time.”
What inspired you to first become a cam girl?

“It was a bit by coincidence that I considered doing this. I simply wanted to see if there was some work I could do online from home, something that would have been more suitable for me as I liked having independence. While browsing the internet one day, I saw a page with girls that were supposedly “live” on cam. I doubted that very much, thinking it was pre-recorded, but it turned out I was wrong. At first I did not think much of it, and I was still looking for what kind of work I could do online, but then the idea of giving webcamming a try grew on me.

I knew nothing about it, and I did not take the time to learn more about it either, so after that first time I never looked around to see what girls actually do. Generally, when I make a decision I just dive into it, which is what I did. So I got the required equipment, jumped in and learned everything on my own by trial and error since day one.”
How many hours a week do you work?

“Well, online I would say an average of 12 hours a day, though I have done up to 17-19 hours many times. It always depends on how busy it is and whether or not I notice how much time goes by, because the fun rarely stops. It is very common that in the moment I am considering logging off, someone just arrives in the room and a new conversation starts, then another song that I want to dance to begins. LOL.

I do work less at times, when I have more things to do offline. Yeah, there is offline work too – haha. There are interviews and content for my website, and social media, messaging, etc. Yeah, I know, sounds a little crazy, huh? But for me this is not really a job, it is a lifestyle.”
Your website says you are pretty open about requests from clients, but can you tell us a few things you have had to say “no” to?

“I am an extreme people-pleaser and always curious to experiment, so I try to find the best way to give the person what he/she wants. I even go out of my way to buy things requested for the next time, if I don’t already have it. If someone requests something that is a little beyond what is possible (which is very rare), I always offer the closest compromise. I make sure to not make them waste time and money, as I highly respect the people who have chosen me in the first place, and want them to be satisfied and happy. That is what makes me happy too.”

For anyone thinking about going into adult webcamming, what would you say is the worst or hardest part about it? The best?

“Being able to multitask and being versatile I think is really important, and that is maybe not a given to everyone, so that could be hard for some. When you do this, I think it is important you have a good self-esteem and a high level of confidence, because there will always be some people who go around to troll the girls, and it’s important to not take that personally and be hurt by it. Anyway, nobody can please everyone, right? Once you are good with that, you will do fine. Also I personally get very attached to the people I see, so at times people go away or kind of disappear, and that is always a little hard on me. I wish I were a little less of the emotional type – haha.

The best thing is it is your room, your world, and your thing! You set your own limits and your own schedule, and the people who will see you are there because they want to see you. None of the nights are the same, which is also great and exciting. You meet and interact with people from all around the globe, and to me, in a sexual and non-sexual way, all I have experienced here has nourished me incredibly as a person, and this will never be lost. I have also developed great friendships and I am so thankful to have gotten the chance to get so close to other people, and those people who have let me get close to them.”
Can you tell us about the hardest or most interesting lessons you learned about people or business when you first started out?

“Well, the main thing is we are all so different: the performers, visitors, and even the different sites. I think it is important to find your way and to find yourself, as that will bring in the kind of people you connect best with. Though visitors might all be from different countries, we are all human, and what we all want and need is to have a good time and enjoy ourselves. I personally have developed a strong understanding of others, and I am able to project myself in the other person’s mind, life and beyond. It opened up my eyes a lot and taught me humility.

Starting from the bottom of the ladder in this business, I learned to be very patient, understanding, and dedicated. Nothing ever came to me easily, and I always had to give a lot of myself to achieve something, and it seems like it worked. Also, the business can move fast and the site can always come with some changes, so you need to have a good ability to adapt quickly. I am still trying to be a little faster on that — haha. Being alone in my apartment and doing most of my own things can get a little difficult to keep up with big studios that have everything in place and have a team to help their performers. But I like the challenges and it just stimulates me more, so in the end, this is all still very exciting!”
Is it hard to balance a lifestyle online and personal relationships? Do you have to live a sort of double life?

“Yes, a bit of a double life for me anyways. People around me don’t know what I do, but I am fine with that. I like to work at night, so I guess I don’t go out much with people, but I decide all my hours and I can work whenever I want to and as much as I want, so it is entirely my decision to do so. I do catch up with people every now and then though, just earlier in the evening when I do, or when I take a night off.”
Are you gearing to win the AVN 2015 Best Camgirl? Can you tell us how you are planning to win?

“Of course I would LOVE to win. Who wouldn’t? The voting period lasts a long time for the people who want to support me, so to make it a little more exciting for them, I decided to prepare free wallpapers for their cellphones and computers with new ones each week. If they download them all throughout, they can have a nice screensaver- haha. Besides that, I only do what I always do, which is to have fun with people, with the exception I let them know they can vote me if they want to. You can vote here.”
How long do you see yourself in this business? Do you have an ultimate business plan?

“This is still a mystery to me, and I am not too good at making plans. LOL. I have always been more of the spontaneous type, and I am always ready to explore more things.

If I am lucky, all the different facets and skills I have developed, shared, and kept growing will lead to a variety of possibilities for my future. But who knows? I don’t like to be disappointed, so even though I do my best, I keep my hopes and expectations very low – haha. I told you, I am the emotional type, so it’s easier for me to process things that way … Great things could happen, or none at all, so I prefer keeping  my actual expectations not too high and keep open on where life will bring me.”
