Cyberbullying and the Porn Industry

Before we get started let me first make sure we are all on the same page … I want to make sure you know what a cyberbully is because sometimes apparently some people don’t seem to know they are a cyberbully. Whether the bully is male or female, his or her purpose is to intentionally embarrass others, harass, intimidate, or make threats online to one another.

Sometimes it’s obvious. We have a number of them here on this site. They couldn’t be more blatant about the hate that they spew. But sometimes it’s more subtle but still it’s just as wrong.

Here is something someone once said to me about Mike South. “Mike South doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s not really IN the industry because he doesn’t live in LA. He’s from the South. He has no idea what it’s really like in our industry. He’s just talking out of his ass. If you aren’t really in LA then you aren’t really an industry insider. You are just a wanna be.”

The person who said this is a bully. He is trying to put down another, probably just to make himself feel better. But the point it, it’s a subtle jab at another but a jab nonetheless. You don’t have to be in LA to be in the porn industry. There are people all around the world who are in the porn industry that aren’t in LA including but not limited to … Florida… anyone ever heard of Bang Bros? How about Las Vegas? Anyone ever hear of Teagan Presley? She doesn’t live in LA and for awhile now all the movies for Adam and Eve have been made in Las Vegas. There are porn people in London, Texas, Arizona and just about everywhere else you can think of. Just because you don’t live in the heart of porn valley doesn’t suddenly mean you are not an industry insider. There is a lot of really serious porn business that goes on all over the world. But I think this person knows just that. I think that this person was just trying to put down Mike South because he’s a jackass. He wants to be a bully and try and keep others down.

Cyberbullying is most often associated with teenagers because of so many young kids killing themselves over it. But it’s not just isolated to teenagers. There are a lot of cyberbullies in our industry. Jerks who are verbally abusive to others online — their goal is to intentionally embarrass others, harass them, intimidate them or sometimes they just flat out threaten another. It couldn’t get more textbook.

Cyberbullies are the very reason I’m here at this site. The inappropriate and abusive comments got so out of hand, I came in to help clean up the mess. And you know what happened as a result? I started getting threats. Some just lame but some really serious. Some people say oh well it’s free speech and that a person should be able to post whatever they want, whenever they want. But what they don’t seem to get is that cyberbullying is a crime and more than just that, it’s also morally wrong.

It’s not okay to call someone a fat bitch that they hope burns in hell or a dumb whore who needs to just die, just because she deleted your comment that called someone a stupid ass motherfucker.

When you go on a site like GFY or XBIZ.net and start openly harassing people, that’s not okay either. It only reflects poorly on you and the company you work for and that may cost you future business deals.

A lesson AEBN apparently hasn’t learned yet.

Didn’t your momma ever tell you, if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all? That’s a bit of advice clearly some of you need to learn.

The amount of bullying going on in our industry is just outrageous. What about the guy who was talking bad about Cameron Bay the day after she found out she was HIV positive? What kind of jerk kicks a girl when she is down? We got it, she brought this on herself. Okay. But did you really need to go on record and put out a press release saying what you did about her? I mean dang, that’s just seriously insensitive. Who does that? She is going to live what the consequences of her behavior for the rest of her life. She doesn’t need Xander Corvus throwing it in her face publicly.

It’s not okay to treat people badly just because you can. It’s not okay to team up with your little friends and start harassing someone, just because you can. It’s not okay to message someone death threats because you are pissed off because they edited or deleted your blog comment.

Yes if someone does something wrong like say, Diane Duke, who most of us feel has made a ton of mistakes … it’s okay to point those mistakes out. But there comes a time when pointing out someone’s mistakes crosses the line and becomes harassing and that’s when it’s not okay.

It’s okay not to like someone. I get it, there will be people who just don’t like me. But it’s not okay to start making up things about me or pushing me around or sending me threats or making threats against my family.

Remember … Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
