Katja Kassin , a German ex-pornstar in her early 30’s , has just announced the end of her 2 year retirement from the industry.
Katja began as a nude model in 2000. In 2003 she started soft score shoots and by the time she announced her retirement in 2009 she’d appeared in 534 films. She won 2 AVN Awards.
Katja bade her farewell to porn in a message that appeared on the adultdvdtalk forum. She wrote:
I wanted to take the time to thank everybody in the porn industry and also my fans for the support over the last (almost) 7 years. I decided 2 weeks ago to retire from the adult industry and from sex/adult work in general. The reason is that I have done all that there is to do in the porn/adult/stripper/escort universe. This year I have finally bought my own house in the SF Valley, a fixer upper foreclosure that I renovated. I remember in March 2003 when I first came to the US with 200 bucks in my pocket (in the year 2010 I can apply for citizenship) – I have come a very far way since then and now I just want to make sure that in another 7 years I can look back and still say that, "wow, have I come a long way in the past 7 years".
She added that she was doing this because she didn’t want to have her mum lie about her anymore and that it was also difficult to find a boyfriend when you were in the industry.(She had been married briefly to the pornstar Sledgehammer) She was ready to consider other work in porn either in administration or behind a camera.
In July 2011 she wrote :
Please do not send me anymore questions about porn or tell me how great my scenes were. I’m retired from porn and I’m a student now .I don’t regret anything I did but I’m not proud of all of it either. I’m retired for almost 2 years & I used the time 2 make serious changes .I’m not that character you’ve seen on film. I am so much more than that. I’m a real person with real feelings, thoughts and dreams .I know that porn was a bad choice I made. You don’t have to rub it in my face. That’s why I’m going to school to get an education. Why was porn a bad choice? Wow, where should I start? It will always be a problem for me, it will always be held against me .I will always be judged for it. While I was doing it I was unhappy & felt empty inside. It was very bad for my self esteem & self image. It’s not possible to have a normal relationship even long time after you retire it will affect your partner in a negative way. You lose self respect because you can’t believe you’re doing things you don’t want to do for money but you’re still doing it.
She’d written in March of the same year on the adultdvdtalk forum:
I will not do any more interviews about my porn career or answer questions about porn or my life as a porn star in an interview. I just feel that there is nothing more to say. I don’t want to be asked for the millionth time how many anal scenes I did and if my mom is proud of me. I’m really seriously done with it. The publicity is not beneficial for me at this point in my life. I am reintegrating myself back into the normal world and the last thing I need is a magazine cover or news story about me.
She posted a little later that after a year of studies she was going to do a BA in Psychology in 2012.
Was Katja completely done with sex work? Despite saying she had no money problems and that she was going to stop using the name Katja Kassin she kept it for her escort work. Here’s what she posted on The Erotic Review in April:

So not done with sex work and certainly not done with porn. Katja has recently tweeted that she feels like it again after 2 years and that ‘sitting home studying gets old.’ This doesn’t mean she’s giving up school as she’s going to combine both. I have 4 more classes to go in the fall. It’s mostly due to fact that I have more time now that I’m done with most classes.
