Rod did his first scene (a loop for Carter Stevens) with Jamie Gillis and a woman. Rod did dozens of loops over the next few years (no features), shooting mainly for Carter, Sal Sodano (who had a studio on 52nd Street and Lexington in Manhattan), and Ron Sullivan. He worked frequently with Gillis, Sharon Mitchell, Annie Sprinkle, and Sue Nero. Then Fontana rejoined the army from 1979 - 1990 before reentering porn. "I did the young guy roles in the '70s and the old guy roles in the '90s," says the tall muscular man of few words. He served in the Armed Forces from 1970 - 73, and was in Vietnam for six months in 1971, getting wounded three times. Luke: "Did you kill anyone?" Rod: "I'm sure I did." Fontana returned to porn in San Francisco in 1990, shooting for Glitz and Sin City. Then he moved to Los Angeles and served as Tight Ends resident director for years, turning out 60 gonzos and several features (including 1997's All About Eva starring Shanna McCullough and Julie Rage). He shot Immaculate Deception and Switch for Ultra Image, a small company that only shoots features (including Shawn Ricks' The Trickler Effect starring Luke F-rd. I've never been able to get a copy of this). For most of 1998, Fontana had an office next to Jim South. Rod was a director for Outlaw Productions which got purchased by Pleasure. He went to Mexico with Al Borda last summer on the Scott Stein organized trip www.smspromotions.com and shot 68 scenes. "It was a good trip though it was so hot. And then the monsoon came in for three days and drenched the place. The power went out. Then the sun came back out, and the mosquitos and they ate everybody alive." Rod now partners with Jim Powers at Notorious Productions though he still shoots a couple of gonzos a month for Outlaw/Pleasure. Fontana only performs with Liza, who only does girl-girl when not working with Rod.
