From child star, John became a director, working with Andy Devine, Yvonne DeCarlo, Hermione Gingold, Betty Hutton and Ruth Roman in road shows and dinner theater. But he found his father's success worked against him. People assumed he didn't need the work. So John Stillman became Jack Wrangler, gay porn star. The first gay porn star in fact, making the cover of every gay magazine in America. In the late '70s he crossed over to mainstream porn, starring in Jack and Jill, DMJ2 and Behind the Green Door 2. Jack had a long relationship with Margaret Whiting, the daughter of songwriter Richard Whiting, which began in the late '70s (is it still going?) (Chicago Tribune, 10/6/85)
