Jack Baker played the character "Stix" on the TV show Happy Days before becoming a porn stud for the Dark Brothers in the mid '80s. He died of cancer in 1994. Jack never restarted his mainstream career after entering porn.

"Baker lived his life like his many colorful characters," writes Toby Dammit in his Smutzine, "on the edge and sometimes way way over the edge. He always had something brewing and was hustling this and scheming that... Baker crammed about 30 lifetimes into his short-lived one."

Jack had a small role in The Kentucky Fried Movie as well as the TV shows M.A.S.H. and Good Times. He entered porn in Bill Margold's 1982 all black feature Hot Chocolate before proceeding to appear in all the Dark Brothers movies of the 1980s. In New Wave Hookers, Jack gets a blow job from Kristarra Barrington.

"Jack was as f---ed up as they come," says Toby Dammit. "I never met him when he didn't ask me for a couple of bucks... I miss him. He was a unique spirit and totally insane... Now we can give him the respect that he deserves. Cuz he's up there with a bottle of Jack in one hand and his pecker in the other, laughing at us all down here."

Hart Williams posted to ASM in January, 1995: "I have known Titus Moody for nearly 15 years now. I once shared accomodations with Jack Baker in a place a block and a half from Titus'. The former President of XRCO says that if anyone should know, it is Titus. This is what Titus says:

"Jack Baker was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder, too late. The doctors could do nothing for him, but he took 2 years in dying. His bladder was removed, and he was forced to wear a bag (the urinary equivalent of a colostomy bag). The cancer continued to spread. He was tested and prodded and poked to excess, but he was free of AIDS.

"Titus states that Jack took good care of himself. He ate well, didn't do drugs, smoked the occasional cigarette and would drink beer, but "two beers would give him a buzz." He might have sniffed a little cocaine in the 70s or 80s, but anything he ever did was in moderation. (They worked on many videos together, and Titus swears that he would know if Jack were doing any excess of drugs -- alcohol included.

"Jack had two pre-existing medical conditions. He had bronchitis. He had -- as a result of being hit in the head with a baseball bat at the place mentioned above -- epileptic seizures. The incident is wreathed in mystery -- i.e. everone had a different, conflicting story. He did not use, as a result much of anything -- cigarettes included. He NEVER was an IV drug user.

"Jack's death was not pretty. He spent two years wasting away to nothing. At first, he was sent to Olive View Hospital in Sylmar and treated the best that they could. Later, he was sent to a convalescent hospital in Burbank. He was in excruciating pain, especially the shoulders. The cancer was spreading to his brain.

"For a time, he crashed at a girl's house in North Hollywood. Then, when he was in the Burbank home, just before the end, he was essentially paralyzed.

"About 25 medical personnel were in the room, and Jack, hands folded across his chest, gave one last speech. He identified Titus as his partner, and told about the films they were going to do when he got better. He explained that he made porn films, and answered questions. He was in good spirits throughout. He had been in good spirits for the entire two hellish years. He asked, when it was over, if he could have a cigarette and a drink. It would be his last request. It was denied -- no doubt because it was unhealthy.

"Titus found out that Jack had been "shipped to County, and that's when I knew it was over." Titus visited Jack at County on Thursday, November 10, and Jack looked bad. He and Sharon Mitchell planned to visit on Sunday, the 13th. "The morgue called me at 6 am," Titus says. He called Mitch, and surprisingly, she answered. "We're not going to be visiting Jack today," he told her. Jack Baker was dead of cancer.

"These are the facts in the death of Jack Baker. Titus has all of the medical records, in case there is any question. Jack Baker died of a cancer utterly unrelated to his lifestyle. Had it been caught in time, this correction would not have been needed."
