"I'm not interested in porno movies," said Madonna in her book Sex. "Everybody is ugly and faking it and it's just silly. Every time I've seen a porn movie, I laugh my ass off. They're funny because they always try to construct these thinly veiled excuses to f---."

Norman Mailor: "There are porn stars who can get excited while a crew of people watch them and their life destiny is being shifted. Once a girl is photographed in a porny, it's a point of no return. She's become a professional." (GQ)

Madonna: "It's for life."

Mailor: "Yes. They're locked into that profession... Where do they go afterward? Female porno stars age quickly. They burn out. Something in them gets killed early. I look upon it as a cruel sport."

In this August, 1994 Esquire article about Madonna by Mailor, she says she finds it difficult to conceive of her being porn star. "Isn't it about intelligence? Not to say that porn stars are stupid, but where I am in my brain is what has brought me to where I am here..."

In other words, Madonna believes that porn stars are stupid. She maneuvers around the edges of porn but won't dive into full revelation. Madonna is feminine enough to realize that mystery sells.
