2/11/07 Nyomi Banxxx Amber Peach, Nyomi Banxxx, Scott Nyomi Banxxx, friend Gordon, Nyomi Banxxx Here's a .wav file of my interview with Nyomi Banxxx. Standing 5'9, Nyomi measures 36D-25-39. She grew up in Chicago, wanting to become a dancer on Broadway. "I was in mainstream before I crossed over the dark side [in February 2007]." "I went to high school and college. I graduated [with a degree in social work]. I played basketball and track on a scholarship." "In high school, I was Dear Abby." "I was a social worker for six years." "I used to sell cars too." "I'm also a screenwriter." "I'm pretty boring." "My parents didn't expect me to be in porn. My mom wanted me to be a lawyer because I was very opinionated." "When I crossed over last year to do porn, she didn't like it, but now she understands that I have a plan. I'm going to make myself a household name. I knew the image I wanted to portray." "I got into [porn] for the money... I just want a couple of million...before my body gets old and saggy... I paid my dues in mainstream and it was hard... The family needs money." Nyomi's done about 55 scenes. She's never worked as a stripper. "I hate the stereotyping [of porn stars]. When people find out what you do, they automatically assume that you're a freak and on drugs. That you come from a broken home. That you've been molested and raped, that's why you're in it." She lost friends from her entry into porn. "It was really painful. I thought that they knew me. It's not what I do, it's who I am." Luke: Can you empathize with how appalling this must be for them? Nyomi: "No, I can't, because I have a fiance who truly understands what I do." "It was hard for me getting in the industry, coming from a very religious [Bapist]background." "In the mid-West, we only know the bad stuff [about porn]. When I first came here [to L.A. two years ago], that was my perception." "When I got here, I saw no drugs on set. I saw nothing but business." Luke: "If you had never moved to L.A., you probably would never have moved into porn?" Nyomi: "Probably not. That's probably what my grandmother's saying right now." Luke: "Did you sing in church?" Nyomi laughs. "Yes, I did." "I have mixed feelings about religion. I have my own relationship with God. I have some things with the Bible that I don't agree with.... There are so many Bibles... I just know the miracles He's done with me and my family... When the day I die I go up to the Pearly Gates and he says, 'You're not getting in,' I'll say OK, I know why, and walk away." "I like a romantic man with a little bit of thug in him." "I've never received [racism] from a white person. When I moved to L.A., I received it from a Mexican." |
