Michelle Lay Interview

I talk by phone Tuesday afternoon (11/16/04) with Michelle aka CaliforniaBadGirl.com aka Insanity Pictures. She hosts a KSEXradio.com show with Wankus every Wednesday night. It's a long drive from Malibu to Burbank during rush hour.

Luke: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Michelle: "An art teacher. I grew up in Michigan. Everything was pretty simple back there back then."

What did your family want you to be?

"I don't think it was every discussed. I grew up with just my mother. She was a single mother of three. It was more like, grow up to be something so that you can get out of the house."

Where was your father?

"I didn't know him. I didn't meet him until I was about 13. He was never in the picture. She had me when she was 17. She was brought up in a Catholic family. She stayed with her parents. He never really came around. When I was 13, I decided I wanted to find him. I knew where his mother lived. So I got in touch with him. Family reunion. Now I don't think I've spoken to him in the last 15 years. That's ok. I have my grandfather.

"I've got to be careful what I say. This is going to end up on the Internet. 'Michelle abused as a child. Had no father. That's why she ended up in porn. She hates men.' I know how you guys operate."

When did you lose your virginity?

"I was a late-bloomer. Fifteen or sixteen. It was the summer between ninth and tenth grade. And no, my first time wasn't pleasant."

How many guys did you sleep with by the time you graduated high school?

"Probably about three. I had one boyfriend from ninth grade up until I graduated. Then I had another serious boyfriend. I didn't start going crazy until I moved to Las Vegas [about eight years later in 1994]."

So what did you do after high school?

"I went to a community college and I worked in the financial aid department of another college -- Eastern Michigan University. I worked 8-5, but three days a week I left the office to go to my other class. Then I quit school and the other job in the office. I started bar tending and waitressing. I worked so many jobs. I worked at a cosmetics company for five years. Oops, that's going to give away my age. That's when I moved to Vegas.

"I waitressed at the Mirage during the day and at night I waitressed at a topless club. Then in 1998, I started dancing. About the same time, I moved to LA [but kept an apartment in Vegas and kept dancing there]. I commuted back and forth because the clubs in LA suck."

How did you get into porn?

"CaliforniaBadGirl was the first web site I started. It was all girl-girl. Me and my sexy girlfriends. I was popular in the amateur world.

"In 2000, I met Nicole Sheridan and Voodoo. She said, why don't you do porn? We need to get you a name. You can't be California Bad Girl. Michelle is your real name. Why not Michelle Lay? There was a singer in my day and her name was Michelle Lay. And I wanted to keep my real [first] name.

"I just started doing boy-girl. I just couldn't find a comfort zone to do it in front of the camera. I am shy. I don't like being watched. It was too close to home. I had to reach that comfort zone where I could let loose."

Now that you've been a slut, a dancer, had your own web site, done girl-girl and boy-girl, what's left?

"I'm going to keep it normal. I do anal. That just started too. I've done like six anal scenes."

You're practically a virgin.

"I just went over to Evoluation Erotica and I picked up my first anal scene. It was with Benjamin Bratt. I hate watching myself but I had to watch it.

How many men do you think you've slept with in your life?

"Twenty five to thirty. I know you think I'm lying but that to me is a slut. I'm married right now. I swear to God. Probably a few more women. The first woman I was with was in 1998."

Does your husband know you work in the porn industry?

"Yes. He likes it. We were minimal swingers beforehand. He always got off on seeing me with other guys.

"My first boy-girl scene was two years ago with Marc Davis for Adam & Eve. I did not do another boy-girl scene for a year-and-a-half later."

Do you do black guys?

"No. I have in my personal life but I won't for movies."

Because it will hurt your father?

"Shut up. I love Lexington Steele but he's too big. And I don't like the stereotypical way interracial is portrayed. The industry makes it too racial for me. Even the titles. Mrs. Jones Has A Negro Problem. Big Black ----- In Little White -----.

What do you love and hate about this industry?

"I love it all. It's fun. It's easy. What I don't like about it? I don't know. Help me out here. Give me some good answers so that we can make this worth reading."

The people who give you STDs?

"I know you won't believe this either, but I've never caught anything. I'm selective with who I work for. If I won't f--- you for free, I'm not going to f--- you for pay. That is my motto. I enjoy my job. I don't ever want to come home one night from a scene and go, I can't believe I just f---ed him. Ooh, I hated it. I will never do something I'm not OK with.

"I'm way older and wiser than most of these girls in the business today. There should be an age limit. Some 18 year olds can handle it but the majority of them can't. Their minds haven't developed as fast as their bodies have.

"Today I was asked if I liked rough sex. I said yeah. I like being slapped a little bit, being choked having my hair pulled. 'Well, do you like being punched? Hit hard?' No. What girl does? I hear that's the new thing now. These rough beating hitting videos. I asked the guy if he was having trouble casting for these things? He said no."

How do you think California should handle its illegal Mexican immigrants?

"Shoot them. Send them to Iraq and bring our guys back. My husband is Mexican. Send him too. I tease him -- will you get out of that bag you came over the river in because it is getting stinky in here.

"His name is Reno. He directs and produces for Insanity. He's done a few scenes with me. We met [in January 1998] through mutual friends. I lived in Vegas and he's a California native."

When you do a scene, does he run to your side with a glass of cold water and wash the other guy's seed off you?

"Right. He cleans the guys cocks off too. No! He used to like watching. Now it's boring. Drive yourself."

Does he ever tell you to brush his teeth before you kiss him?

"No. He would rather taste it.

"It all depends on who I work with. No, he's not a fag."

Does he ever ask you to bring Nick Manning home?

"Why is this question here?

"I had never been with a girl prior to meeting my husband. It was his fantasy. The first girl I was with was a hooker because I didn't know how to find a girl. For two years with my husband, I was only with girls. Then my husband decided he wanted to bring a guy into the mix.

"The first guy I was ever with was someone from the industry. After that, I didn't know any other guys. I went on to an escort web site and I saw a picture of Nick Manning. I didn't know who he was.

"So one night it was me, my husband, and another girlfriend of mine. We were all lying around the house drinking and partying. Nick Manning was my hooker. I ordered him in. He f----- me and my friend.

"When he got here, he was looking all slimy. I love him to death. He's a good guy but he just had that long greasy hair. I said to my girlfriend, you ---- him first. He stayed an hour, got back in his car and left."

How much did you pay him? Did you tip him?

"No, we didn't tip him. We got away with cheaper than what he wanted. I think he wanted $600 and we ended up paying him $300. His thing was, dude, I'm a big porn star. I get paid big bucks to ---- chicks. My husband was like, dude, you're ----ing my hot wife and her hot friend. These aren't porn chicks."

How much do you normally have to pay men to have sex with you?

"How much would you charge me? Nick Manning is the only guy I've ever paid for sex.

"The person who drove him here was his girlfriend at the time, Shay Sights. She waited in the car."

Does your husband drive you to do your tricks?

"I don't do tricks. The only trick I perform is pulling a rabbit out of your ass.

"I don't have the guts to escort. I wish I did. Those girls make good money.

"There aren't as many screwed-up people in this business as people think. My neighbor looks like Ron Jeremy. He's going to be 50. He still thinks of porn as back in the '70s when it was illegal to shoot and they were doing it in the basement and there were trays of coke laying all over. He watched the movie Wonderland (2003) one too many times. I want to punch him because he thinks that's how it is today. I have never once seen a line of coke on a porn set. It's so corporate now.
