I chat with Cynara Fox, Jill Kelly Productions contract girl, 4/8/03.
She's lying on the couch half-asleep. She's the star of today's show,
appearing in three scenes.
Cynara tells me after our interview, after she was warned about me,
that she thought I was with HBO. She didn't know I was a notorious
gossip monger. I believe I identified myself by my real name and by
the website www.setgo.com. I try to do that with everybody. Whenever
I arrive on set, I try to check in with the production manager. I
did that today with Robert. I introduced myself by name and site and
shook his hand. He grunted and ignored me the rest of the day.
I'm on set because of an invitation from the JKP publicist who has
dealt with me for about three years.
Cynara speaks slowly and sleepily. She just got pronged by two guys
and had lunch. I'd be sleepy too. Or at least I usually am after I've
been pronged by two guys and had lunch. And it's warm outside.
Cynara: "My birthday is June 22. I was in Pittsburgh, where
I'm from. I went to a club where Stephanie Swift was featuring. I
talked to her and asked her how to get into the business. I've always
been a big fan of the business. She told me that as soon as she got
back home from dancing, I should come to her house [in Los Angeles]
and she would show me.
"That's what I did. I got into the industry in July 2002. I flew out
here. I stayed with Stephanie for a while. I didn't work much. It
didn't work out with her being my manager. I went through a couple
of bad agents."
Robert the production manager comes by and says we need to be quieter
because they are shooting Lee Stone's scene upstairs with Tyler Faith.
Tyler is a buxom blonde JKP girl and I joke with her much of the day.
"I met with Jill Kelly. I think when she met me, I don't want to sound
conceited, but it was like her eyes lit up. She walked up to me and
I was a big fan of hers. I sent her an email and left her a message,
saying I wanted a contract. I met her at Skye Blue's studio around
November.
"My agent [Jim South] would not allow me to work for her. Jim South
did not get me any work. It was an awful situation.
"I would credit Wesley Emerson for discovering me and helping me out
and bringing me outside of myself to see what I wanted to do and help
me do it. I credit where I am at now to him. He's a good friend of
mine. He got me my first job with Jill Kelly Productions for 100%
Jenna. A couple of weeks later, I got my contract.
"When I was at home in Pittsburg, when Jill first formed her company,
Jill and all her girls went to the AVN Awards in matching denim jeans,
bandanas, and big crystal belly bracelets. When I saw the picture
of them in AVN, I thought, I have to be one of those girls. My dream
came true. I'm happy now and I'm right where I belong."
Luke: "So you feel at home with the other JKP girls?"
Cynara: "Yes, they're amazing. It's the best family. We all
look out for each other. They're so welcoming. There's no cattiness
in the girls. It's just like a big family where everyone helps each
other and everyone looks out for each other."
DUC keeps a straight face.
Cynara: "That's what I was looking for. When you are not under
contract, you never know when your next check, your next job, is going
to come.
"My roommate Amber Roxx does anal and everything. She's the kind of
person who should not get a contract because she can get so much work
because she does all that stuff on her own. There are two types. People
like her who should not get a contract because they can make so much
more on their own. Then there's me. I want stability. I want to know
when my next job is coming.
"It was frustrating over the winter with Jim South."
Setgo.com contacted Jim South via email for comment and has not
heard back from him.
Luke: "What do you love and what do you hate about the industry?"
Cynara: "It's cool meeting new people and going to cool locations.
There are so many girls who would die to be in my position right now.
There are only a handful of contract girls in this business. Some
girls are just in it for the money. They don't want to be recognized.
I'm the opposite. I came into it because I want to be recognized.
I want to be a household name like Jenna Jameson and have my pictures
everywhere in expensive ads and have people know my face. JKP spends
so much money on ads and on promoting you. Everybody that works with
Jill are people I've worked with in the past and that I have the best
chemistry with. Like Skye Blue, Wesley Emerson. Wes completely saved
me. I credit everything that I will be to him."
Luke: "How did he save you? Save you from what?"
Cynara: "From stupid people pretending to be my agent. Pretending
that they were going to give me work. Talking so much and never coming
through with any of it. I was having a hard time there when I was
pretty much living out of my truck. Jim South was my agent. He knew
that. He knew that I was living out of my truck and that I had no
work. I met Wesley Emerson in Jim's office. We talked. Wesley took
me into his house and let me stay there for like a month. He gave
me a room. He helped me get my head together. He asked me what I wanted.
He saw some kind of spark in me. He helped me clear my head and to
forget about the bad things that happened... He helped me in every
way. Financially, emotionally... He pushed me. To this day he pushes
me to be my best.
"Here are the things I don't like about the business. Jim South the
agent. He expects you to sit on a couch in his office all day long,
like you have nothing better to do, and wait for some people to walk
in. I found out why I wasn't getting any work. One woman wanted to
hire me for a movie and had called Jim's office when I was still with
him. If you're an agent, and one of your clients is requested, don't
you think you should say good things about your client and why they
should be hired?"
Luke: "Yes."
Cynara: "Jim South told her every reason not to hire me. He
made stuff up. Oh, she disappears for weeks at a time. You don't want
to hire her, she won't show up. There are a lot of bad rumors. There
is so much bad bad gossip in this industry. Certain website are just
out there for gossip for people in the industry."
Luke: "That site f-ckinggossip.com."
Cynara: "That site is disgusting. I don't know who Eddie Tour
is. He said some really bad things about me. I cried about some of
the things I read on there and I was going to write back but there's
no point. I knew the truth. I just forgot about it. I took a lot of
advice from Wesley and just let it go. I guess that's the best thing
to do. If you respond to those kind of things, it keeps it recycling.
It's an evil fight and you just shouldn't do it.
"I was sitting right next to [a certain director] when he made a call
to Jim. 'Hey Jim, what's up with that Cynara Fox? Can I get her some
work?' I heard Jim say all kinds of terrible things about me. Then,
when I walk in his office and ask him if there's any work for me,
he says, 'No, nobody's called. It's so slow right now. I'm real sorry.
If it means anything, I still love you.' In his little Southern accent."
Luke: "Why was he trashing you?"
Cynara: "I don't know. I'm really an eccentric strange person.
People can take it one way or another. People can either see it and
understand or they can see it and take it the wrong way, thinking
the person is on drugs and emotionally unsound. There are some very
bad people in this industry who are trying to represent people right
now."
Luke: "Was there ever a time in your career when you were not
showing up for shoots?"
Cynara: "In the beginning, yeah. Jim said I disappeared for
weeks at a time. I asked him what he meant. He had my cell phone numbers.
He had so many phone numbers for me. When he said I disappeared for
weeks at a time, he meant that I wasn't coming in and sitting on his
couch all day like I had nothing better to do. I called him at least
three times a week. 'Jim, do you have anything for me?'
"There was a time when I was sick one morning and I didn't make it
to a shoot. But I called as soon as I woke up and was able to talk.
Everyone has done that. I don't know why Jim wanted to work against
me when he could've made money off of me."
Luke: "How many movies have you done?"
Cynara: "A dozen."
Luke: "Who are your best friends in the industry?"
Cynara thinks. "Wesley Emerson is my best friend. I don't know.
I'm not much of a partier. I don't go out and stuff. I just like to
stay in and watch movies all night. I don't have that many people
I hang out with. I don't know. Everyone in my life right now is a
nice acquaintance. I can't tell you who are going to be my friends."
Luke: "Does your family know about your new career?"
Cynara: "Yes they do. They're very happy for me. The only family
I have is my Dad and his new wife. They're both big porn fans. They
do not watch my stuff. They will look at my magazines and a lot of
my still pictures and they will read my articles. They think it's
awesome. They're happy that I am doing what I want. My Dad's Mom is
happy too."
Luke: "Why did you want to get into the industry?"
Cynara: "I don't know. I need to be on camera. I want to be
an actress. I'm going to take some classes."
Luke: "Are you primarily heterosexual?"
Cynara: "It's guys who buy the movies. I'm not going to lie.
When I do my films, I do it with the intention making the guys watching
it happy. That's the only thing on my mind. In my personal life, I
prefer women. I was a big fan before I started so I treat fans like
they are normal people. I'm no better than them."
Luke: "How old were you when you lost your virginity?"
Cynara: "Fourteen."
Luke: "Was it a good experience?"
Cynara: "Yes. I'm going to keep the details a secret."
Luke: "What's the last book you enjoyed?"
Cynara: "Umm, I just bought Alistair Crowley's Diary of a Drug
Fiend. I've read the first page. I used to read books all the time.
Now I'm into movies and documentaries and non-fiction on TV. I plan
on writing a book on my life. I think I'd have to take each chapter
of my life and make each chapter a book. Otherwise it would be too
big.
"I'm the biggest critic of myself. Of all the movies I've made so
far, I've not found one that I want to send back to my friends to
watch. I want them to see me looking good, just as good as all the
rest, fitting in just as well as the rest of the people in the industry.
"In my personal life, I just like to sleep, watch TV and eat a lot
of food."
Luke: "Have you always been this skinny?"
Cynara: "Yes. That's where some of the drug rumors came in
on the net and stuff because I have pale skin. If you'd look at my
parents, they're thin and pale. I don't tan easy. A lot of people
have said I'm too thin for the business. Ok, now I'm starting to think
about other bad things in the business. People really really want
to put you down all the time. It's hard on your self esteem. 'Oh,
your hair color is not right for you. You don't look good like this.
Oh, are you anorexic? Oh, please don't do that to yourself.' And I'm
sitting there eating like a truck driver. There's nothing I can do
[to gain weight]. I don't even smoke cigarettes or drink."
Luke: "Did you ever have a drug problem in the industry?"
Cynara: "In the industry? No."
Luke: "It's strange there have been these rumors."
Cynara: "It's not strange. I can understand when I'm really
skinny and pale. I suffer from depression and I have panic attacks
and mild seizures. My doctor gave me some medicine for my seizures
because they're brought on by either cold weather or anxiety. My whole
body will shake really bad and go into a fit. It isn't very attractive.
I have to keep a constant level of that medicine in my body so I don't
go into those things. Sometimes it makes me look tired. It calms you
down."
Cynara lies on the couch during our interview. "I came here to take
a nap. I thought I'd catch some sleep because I'm going to be working
late.
"Oh, because of my seizure issue, I can't take drugs. I did some drugs
between 14 - 17. I started young and quit young. My seizure problems
probably are from drugs. My doctor randomly drug tests me. Whenever
I go in to see him, or my counselor, they randomly drug test me. I
don't know when it's coming. I have copies of everything. They test
for every single drug. I have copies in my folder that I bring to
work with me every day."
I see the copies of her tests and they read negative for everything.
An hour after my interview with Cynara, I sense a rising level
of tension on set. Mark Kernes from Adult Video News has been trashing
me, creating hysteria in Cynara and others. Mark starts ranting against
me in front of cast and crew and HBO.
I catch his last few words on tape.
Mark: "This man hates the industry. You've probably heard this
before. I don't know why you let him on sets anymore."
Skye Blue yells at Mark and everyone to be quiet because Jill Kelly
is shooting upstairs and the sound carries.
Cynara insists that I tape her final words to me: "I want people to
know that I remember what I said during my interview and if it comes
out wrong, I will be on the net explaining what I said. Because I
was under the influence that it was somebody else. I didn't really
know because HBO is here and a lot of people are here and I didn't
know anyone else is here and if there's any gossip about me on the
net, then that's it. This s--- needs to stop. We're all people and
we need to be respected and not talked s--- on unless it is something
that someone needs helps with. I really hope that my words will be
used as I spoke them and not mixed around and not certain parts left
out and certain parts put in. And if they are, I'm not going to be
very happy."
Luke: "Give me your email address and I will email you the interview
before it goes up on setgo.com. I've worked with your publicist for
years."
Cynara: "If I would have known, no offense, I would never have
done that. Never."
Wesley Emerson phones me Wednesday morning, 4/9.
Wesley: "I have a question. When you interview people, why
don't you introduce yourself instead of blindsiding them and saying,
'Hi, I'd just like to ask you a few questions.'"
Luke: "I do."
Wesley: "No you don't. You didn't introduce yourself to Cynara
Fox."
Luke: "You're wrong. I did."
Wesley: "Do you have that on tape?"
Luke: "I don't know if I have that introduction on tape..."
Wesley: "Well, you should from now on. If you say anything
nasty about her or twist her words, I will come after you. I promise
I will. I've helped her out too much for people like you to go f---
with her. I love you dearly but I'm tired of people like you f---ing
with people. I'm so tired of the gossip. I feel like I'm dealing with
Hedda Hopper. It appalls me. She's giving you the benefit of the doubt.
I want some respect taken.
"You caught her in the middle of falling asleep for a nap. She had
no idea who you were. It just hurts when she finds out who you are.
I'm counting on you not to go on any of your normal dark places."
I contact Eddie Tour of www.f-ckinggossip.com
for comment. He replies:
I would like to comment on Ms. Fox. First of all I would like to say
that I am VERY glad to hear that she is not using any illegal drugs.
I will give her the benefit of the doubt on that one, however there
are MANY legal drugs, which can cause very similar effects when ABUSED.
Percodan, Perocet, Xanax, Darvon, Vicodin, ect., are all perfectly
legal, but can cause a person major social problems, just look at
Anna Nicole Smith. I have no evidence that Ms. Fox is on any or all
of these drugs, however, unless she has some extreme form of narcolepsy,
I’m not quite sure what could be wrong with her. Even if she is quite
ill, and has been prescribed very powerful drugs, a doctor would not
advise her to take so much as to put her into such a state; difficulty
standing, difficulty reading, and falling asleep on live TV. Please
note: these are all verified facts, either noted by myself personally,
or verified by multiple sources.
I do find it interesting that Ms. Fox is claiming Jim South told people
not to hire her. This could go one of two ways, either Ms. Fox is
a raving liar trying to cover for herself for not getting any work,
or Jim South knew something was so wrong with her that he chose to
give up money in order to fairly warn others not to shot her. I tend
to lean towards the first option, knowing that Jim South will send
a 30 lb. over weight, 35 year old, stripper to Vivid in the hopes
of making a buck. Mr. South is also well known for knowing little
to nothing about his girls, seeing as he has so many. This statement
“She had a horrible experience with agent Jim South who told porners
not to use her” is the strongest evidence AGAINST Ms. Fox, it clearly
states that she is either willing to blatantly lie about the most
successful agent in the industry, and if so what else would she be
willing to lie about, or that there was something so very wrong with
her that even Jim South picked up on it.
I never intended to hurt Ms. Fox’s feelings, however a rational person
would not be “hurt” when confronted with the truth. This is a VERY
small industry; everyone knows every thing about everyone else. Ms.
Fox is just embarrassed by her own actions.
