I arrive at 11am. Scene one -- Cheyne Collins (husband to porn star Chennin Blanc, they've been together 18 years, married eight) with Chasey Lain.

Cheyne shoots something into Chasey's mouth. She spits it out and it lands on the cameraman's (Justin Fawcett) leg. He freaks out and runs off to clean himself. He says it was the first time in six years he's been nailed like that.

Justin's girlfriend has been working behind the scenes for about a year. I ask her what is the most shocking thing she's seen in porn.

She says it wasn't in porn. It was when she was 15 and at a stable. The seven-year-old girl she was minding asked her what that man was doing to her pony. She looked up and saw a guy buggering the pony.

Director Rick Davis used to partner with Corey Jordan, who is now married to Jill Kelly and has his own production company. Corey's brother Dale Jordan works for Rick. He stands over 6' and weighs over 250 pounds.

Scene two is Monique Fuentes and Grant Michaels.

Jorge, Monica's fiance, tells the still photographer that if he lets her go through her poses, he won't have to say anything (thus negating the translation problem, as Monique's English is not good).

Monique spends much of the still shoot on her knees. She sighs loudly with relief when told that it is finished. She rubs her sore knees.

When she feels under pressure, Monique has two veins that pop up in her forehead. One runs straight above her nose into her hairline. The other one curves left over her left eye.

Grant asks if Jorge is her husband. She gets a funny look on her face, looks at Jorge, and says not yet.

Grant says she looks like a young Sophia Loren.

I ask Cherry Boxxx co-owner Alan Gold, how's business?

He replies, "Thank God."

That's a Jewish thing to mean that everything is in God's hands and so far it is ok.

I ask Alan what's new with Cherry Boxxx. He says they are going for a new look.

"How so?"

"We're looking for a woman that makes you go..."

"Wow?"

"Yes. That's it."

Cherry Boxxx's niche has been the 18-year old look.

John Douglas comes on set. I ask him for the name of the last book he finished. It was XXX-Communicated.

John wonders how I achieve such a gauzy look to my photography. "I've always assumed," he says, "that it is because you are breathing so heavy that you fog up your lenses.

"Or you rub Crisco on them. Or you don't wipe the KY Jelly off your hands before you use your camera."

I chat with Monique Fuentes (after her scene with Grant Michaels) and Jorge Fuentes.

From Colombia, she's been living in Miami for four years. She has a three-year old daughter. She's 29yo, 5'10" with a shapely body and D-cup implants (from Colombia three years ago).

She speaks to me partly in English and then Jorge (also from Colombia) translates the rest.

Her journey into porn began a few months ago when she posted some pictures to an Internet modeling site (1modelplace.com). She says she had no intention of getting into porn.

"Never. I come from a traditional [upbringing]."

Luke: "Did he get you into pornography?"

Monique: "Yes. For him."

Jorge: "I asked her. From the moment that I met this girl [18-months ago], I knew [that she was going to be a porn star]."

Monique: "We're a team. I'm here."

Luke: "Because of him?"

It's not clear.

The next morning, she received 120 emails in response to her pictures. A lot of people told her that she was a porn star.

Jorge says she has a porn star mentality. "She can be happy in the business."

Monique told her parents she was working in porn. Initially they were aghast. Now she says they are ok with it.

Monique: "My father says, you always make good decisions. Trust your intuition."

Before meeting Jorge, Monique was with the father of her daughter for nine years. She stayed home and he paid for everything.

Jorge: "She's a person who thinks things through. I planted a seed in her mind [and a year later, she decided to get into porn]. She could see that people were very interested."

Luke: "Is this more a fulfilmment of your fantasies or his fantasies?"

Monique laughs. "Both."

Jorge: "She doesn't lie. If it was not the case, she would tell you."

After her first scene for the Web site Eighthstreetlatinas.com, Monique became widely recognized. She had to change her gym and her hair salon.

Monique: "Latin people think that if you work in porn, you are a prostitute.

"Before, people knew nothing about me. Now... Everybody was like kaboom. I'm famous."

Monique says she hasn't had any bad experiences in porn, just some unpleasant ones. "I don't need a man who's beautiful or handsome. What is most important for me is that he is clean."

Jorge: "She has a problem that all these guys fall in love with her. They want to make love to her. They want to kiss her. They want to do things that are not professional. This gentleman today [Grant Michaels, ex-boyfriend of Kim Chambers] was very professional. He was clean, nice, considerate. He was asking if she was ok."

Monique agrees.

Jorge: "In the beginning, guys were pushing her to do more during the stills and breaks. She didn't know better."

Monique says she doesn't like to kiss strangers. The act is too intimate.

A few days ago, Monique had sex with a black man for the first time (with Justin Slayer). "It was a special situation. I knew him. We had good chemistry. He paid me well. He was clean. He took me to dinner and dancing."

Jorge: "One of her limitations was no interracial. She met Justin at the World Modeling office. He was cool and nice. They connected as friends. She felt comfortable. She felt like she was working with a buddy."

I asked Monique if she played a role in killing Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. She laughs hard.

Jorge says when most male performers meet Monique, "they freak out. Because of the way she looks. She has an intense look. Look at her nails, hair. They get intimidated. Sometimes they cancel shoots because they can't perform or they can't pop. This happens 80% of the time. This guy today had problem popping."

Monique and Jorge were scheduled to fly back to Miami Tuesday night after a week in LA.

Alicia looks about 20 years old. She says her fiance's parents think she's celebrating Thanksgiving with her family in Flint, Michigan. Instead she's about to do her third scene in porn. Her fiance knows about her work and approves of it.

Dick Delaware is still suffering (physically and psychologically) from his break-up with Layla Rivera. He punched his wall and his door during upsetting phone conversations with his ex and he's got the scars to prove it.

Dick has an Ultimate Fighting Championship match December 9th. A documentary film crew is considering a movie about his professional combo -- porn and fighting.

He looks worn down. Even the toughest guy in the world can be reduced to tears by the woman he loves.

In an emotional state, Delaware has shown up a couple of times to the Jim South shooting house (in the past three weeks) where Layla has stayed the past few weeks (though she spent three nights with Dick within the past week). Dick was highly emotional both times (though he didn't hurt anybody). He showed up Monday night looking for Layla. She wasn't around.

It's been suggested to Layla that she move out. So she's going back to Arizona. She says she's into "cholos," not white guys.

I interview Chasey Lain shortly before 3pm. She's just completed her second sex scene of the day (a girl-girl with Cherokee), had a smoke and eaten lunch.

She says she's not tired and she seems in high spirits. She showed up to set 90-minutes late. Director/producer Rick Davis normally gets his six sex scenes completed within nine hours.

To Chasey: What were some of the highlights and lowlights of your year 2004?

Chasey: "I've been working a lot. Just getting back to shooting again because I had not been shooting for a while. It's been fun to see everyone."

How did you get signed to Cherry Boxxx?

"I've known Kevin [Beechum, co-owner of Cherry Boxxx with Alan Gold] for years.

"I've always been contractually bound [to shoot for only one company]. Now that I'm not, I'm able to shoot for all those people who, over the years, I wanted to work with but couldn't."

Lain began her porn movie career at age 21 in 1992.

What are the major changes in the industry?

"More condoms now. When I started, it was unheard of. It's become more mainstream."

Who are your best friends in the industry?

"I don't know. I get along with most of them."

Are you in a relationship now?

"No."

Do you prefer to date inside of or outside of the industry?

"Outside. If I date at all."

Chasey says that guys usually find out quickly that she's a porn star. Once they find out, it's hard for them to view her as anything but a porn star.

Do they want you to stop?

"No. They want to take over. Then they got to go."

What's the longest relationship you've had?

Chasey laughs. "None have lasted long."

Does that make you sad?

She giggles. "No. I would be sad if they were still going on."

What do you love and hate about the industry?

"Obviously the money is good. It could be better. It beats McDonalds. You get to meet a lot of cool people. You get perks because people know who you are."

Lain went eight years without doing guys on camera.

What do you do to keep yourself centered?

She laughs. "Am I really centered?"

When Lain's not working, she likes to spend time with her six-year-old son, ride horses and shop. She owns over 800 pairs of shoes. "I like purchasing real estate and cars."

She says that being a mom gives her "focus and purpose. I don't think I'm as wild as I was."

Gene Ross interviews Chasey.

Asked if she follows the Internet, Lain says she stays away from it at all costs. "We're forbidden to even look at it or we'd be in the office crying every single day! Steve Hirsch over at Vivid forbid us to look at it. He was, like, don't come to my office crying. You're not allowed to look at it. Someone go confiscate every girl's computer. Else there'd be dead bodies in trunks everywhere!"

Lain's well aware that she's been the subject of many gossip items.

I asked Lain about what happened at AEE and the story that she OD'd. "It wasn't me," she says. "There was another girl at the show that Digital Playground had got in. My badge was from Pleasure Productions that said Chasey Lain. But there was another girl that Digital Playground had gotten into the show and her badge said Tiffany Chase. My real name is Tiffany. They assumed it was me."

"I heard you really got bent out of shape over that," I tell Lain.

"I was livid," Lain replied. "I was dead, supposedly. I have a six year old child. They had heard before I had heard. And so my son's father was calling. I was crossing the state line back into California when one of the escort agencies I work for in New York called and said did you know you were dead? I said no. But Tim Connelly over at AVN, I went straight to his office. They did print a retraction."

Lain said at the time of the incident she was with Heather Hunter and Hunter's manager. "They were doing a live promo at a club and I was with them at the time- on video. It's documented. And Circus Circus is where all the Pleasure girls were staying," added Lain noting that the news story had her staying at The Venetian. "And so they [AVN] didn't look into it. They didn't check. They just took somebody's word for it that it was me. It didn't even involve me. I'm dead, yeah. I couldn't believe it."

Journalist and photographer Marc Star is about to marry.

Chasey Lain says she graduated high school in 1989. She started stripping and posing nude in 1990. She entered porn in 1992. She turns 33 on Tuesday.

I ask her about Dimitri [Romasenko, the murdered San Francisco rapper].

From the 6/27/04 San Francisco Chronicle article:

"He's helping his porn-star girlfriend, Chasey Lain, get custody of her kid."

[Reporter:] "The cops also told me Dima had a porn-star girlfriend."

[Dimitri's mom:] "I personally have the privilege to know that woman. She's very manipulative. She's telling him she'll introduce him to Dr. Dre. and P. Diddy.

"She is probably my age. Her brain didn't function that well to know his age. She was not a girlfriend. How is that possible? I have been telling my kid, with this kind of girl, you can get a headache."

"I haven't been able to locate her," Stasko [cop] said. "Apparently she isn't where she's supposed to be. People don't even know how she fits in. There's been a lack of cooperation in talking to some people in this case."

Chasey says Dimitri was not her boyfriend, just a friend. A good friend. That's what she told the FBI and the homocide detectives.

"They'll probably be asking you next," Chasey says.

Lain knew Dimitri's family but she did not get into his business.

Chasey was promoting Dimitri's record label and she had an ownership share in the company.

Chasey and I are outside. A light rain falls. She smokes a cigarette and sips a cola. She's wrapped in a red dressing gown.

"They were going to use my picture on the album cover," says Chasey. "They were almost done recording the first album."

We reminisce about the 1998's Ballad of Chasey Lain by The Bloodhound Gang. She laid down an audiotrack for the song.

Mr. Marcus walks up. Chasey welcomes him. He's over an hour late.

Chasey: "It's cold out here. We're waiting on you. They've got a bet going on how late you're going to be."

Chasey returns to me to talk about her ballad. "It was number one in Germany. I was pregnant when I went into the studio to lay down the voice track. They used my picture on the album cover and on their backstage passes."

Duke: "How did you meet Dimitri?"

Chasey: "Friends."

Duke: "How long did you know him?"

Chasey: "A year."

Lain says she doesn't know who killed the 21-year old.

I meet the wife of famed porn photographer Scott St. James, 48. He used to be with porn star Sindee Coxx (who's now married to videographer Barry Wood). Now he's married to 28 year old Emma Edwards (a relationship of four years, married for two). She's stunning. Tall brunette with curly hair down past her shoulders. Slim. Elegantly dressed in tight blue jeans and boots. She writes on the set pieces for Club magazine. Marc Star is taking the photos to accompany her essay.

Emma says she can tell if the sex scene was good by if she's written so hard that the second page in her notepad has indentations.

She takes detailed notes as the Marcus-Chasey scene unfolds in the bathtub. Luc, a camera guy and a lighting guy are crammed into the bathroom.

During a break for stills, about six still photographers from the porn press descend (including Dr X, Mark Kernes).

Gene Ross showed up at the house yesterday, misinformed about the date of the shoot.

The Bel Air mansion is leased by Giorgio and his wife Tatziana. They edit about 15 movies a month there. Giorgio shoots camera for Platinum X and Red Light District and occasionally does scenes.

I had dinner at his beautiful home in Calabassas about six years ago. Giorgio drank a lot of wine and said that none of the big shots in the industry intimidated him. He repeatedly bellowed, "En vino verita." That's latin for in wine truth.

I hear there were about 400 people at Saturday night's KSEX awards. All the people who host KSEX shows were there along with other porn stars such as Digital Playground's Jesse Jane.

Max Hardcore began the evening his charming self but the more he drank, the more belligerent he grew.

Alexandra Silk grew up in an Orthodox Jewish home but rebelled upon reaching adulthood.

The Chasey - Marcus scene begins with an interview by Luc.

Chasey and Marcus reminisce about the time they first met -- ten years ago.

Chasey: "That was right when I had stopped working with guys. That lasted eight years."

Luc: "Chasey, have you ever done a black guy before?"

Chasey: "Yes, but not on film. Heather Hunter [black] was in all of my videos. She was one of my favorite people to work with."

Marcus: "It takes girls like Chasey to show others [in porn] what it could be."

Luc asks Chasey: "What do you like about blackness? Just a one-liner."

Chasey's stumped. Finally she says, "they have nice ass."

Luc asks her to repeat her comment as a complete sentence.

Marcus says he was watching a football game earlier in the day with some ladies. And he found out to his horror that they were watching for the view of the players' butts.

I hear Heather Hunter is shooting a music video in the next few days.

Luc Wylder remembers when AVN featured a special supplement on the Internet in its September 1995 issue. It mentioned Luc Wylder and his wife of the time Ariana hosting the first adult chat on Compuserve. Luc and his former business partner built a web site for Ariana in 1994.

Luc now owns Fallen Angel free and clear, having paid his debts to his former business partner Gigi Appleton, who has her own company.

Fallen Angel releases about 14 movies a year and it has 110 in its catalogue.

Giorgio (who has been with Tatziana for 16 years) with Geoff Coldwater made a mainstream film The Passion of the Reefer. It had a short theatrical release, which was ripped by The Los Angeles Times (but praised by the LA Weekly and other critics).

Chasey hooks up with Carmen Luvana in the second and final scene of the day.
