Heather Veitch from JCsgirls.com picks me up at 9 p.m.

She's in L.A. for a week as one of four main characters on Stephen Baldwin's reality show pilot for VH1. They've been going to porn sets (Adam & Eve) and KSEXradio.com and talking to porn girls such as Kendra Jade and Sophia Lynn (A&E contract girl) and trying to get them to see the light.

Stephen's approach is more aggressive than Heather's. TV wants drama. They want to capture people turning their lives around on a dime. But that rarely works. It is usually fake.

Sophia is sweet and gentle but she has no intention of leaving porn. She loves porn. She feels like she belongs.

Our drive is slow past Santa Monica, Sunset and Hollywood Blvds due to the crush of Halloween celebrants.

Heather loves God and her outreach but she is down on Christians. Many of them have developed an obsession with making her life miserable for her JCsgirls.com outreach. They said she doesn't care about her husband and kids because she doesn't mention them on her website. That she shouldn't drink. That she shouldn't go out without her husband. That she shouldn't masturbate. That she shouldn't exchange blowjobs for crack cocaine (not that Heather does that).

I am struck by a familiar-looking blonde in black lingerie.

"Who is she?" I ask.

I'm told that she used to be in the industry but now has a mission.

Cool, I think. I get her outside for an interview. She says her name is Kat.

It turns out she was never in the industry but is a waitress at Sardo's.

I interview her anyway. She says people tender to be nicer than normal on Tuesday nights. "And if you're a girl and you're cute, they're a lot more affectionate."

"I live in Los Angeles for a reason because you can do whatever you want," says Kat. "Porn Star Karaoke is the epitome of that. Do what you have to do. There's a lot more freedom of expression. In the porn industry, there's no inhibition. Those are the kind of people I like to be around. They don't care what people think. It's empowering to be around that."

"I'd live in Europe if the entertainment industry was there because they are so much better at expressing themselves sexually than we are."

"I learned all of my sexual expression from porn. Everything I know I learned from watching porn."

"Jenna Jameson is among the most dynamic and charismatic people I've seen on television. She's a great businesswoman. Everyone can learn from that. If you are living in a patriachal society, you might as well use your appearance to get ahead."

It's my first time at Sardo's in about nine months.

Seymour, the owner, hasn't changed. He's still smoking his girly cigarettes and sipping hot tea for his inflamed throat.

I chat outside with Ric Williams of Black Widow Talent (he's dyed his hair blonde) and his girls Eris and Isis Ray.

Ric emails: "Luke, Where have you been?? My hair has been blonde for over 5 years!"

Isis shakes uncontrollably and I fear there is something very wrong with her.

She's a stripper in Wisconsin who flew out to L.A. for two weeks to do porn.

"I haven't shot anything yet," she says. "I flew out here on the 21st and did a bunch of go-sees."

Luke: "What kind of experience has it been for you to go on these go-sees?"

Eris: "It's all right. I haven't gotten any news and they say that no news is good news."

Luke: "What led you to becoming an exotic dancer?"

Eris: "I was 19. I was in debt and I had to dig myself out of a hole and that was the only thing I could think of at the time and so you go with what you know."

Luke: "How has Ric treated you?"

Eris: "Ric's a good guy. He paid for my flight. He put me up at his house. He's paid for all my food and necessities."

"I want to be a big star," says Isis, "without the big head. I want to stay the same person to show that there are people who can."

Isis graduated from an all-girl Christian boarding school.

Isis and Eris shiver in the cold.

Heather is her chatty self.

I am my restrained self.

We leave at my insistence at midnight. She could've stayed for hours.

"In Vegas, you don't have dinner until 11 p.m.," she says.

"I had a good time tonight. How about you?"

"It was fine."

"We should go somewhere where you are out of your element," says Heather. "I've seen you cut loose once. It was at your birthday party at Holly's house. You were so happy. I don't know if it was because Holly was around."

"I was with a lot of people I liked."
