Marriage

Most porn girls are anything but sexually available. About half are married and many of the rest are in committed relationships. For those who'd like to settle down with a queen of cum, Richard Hollander offers this advice:

How to Marry a Porn Star

While the publisher of RickNews has never married, he knows some people who have, including persons in porn. He says that when you marry a woman who spends her days getting loads of cum swathed on her distendered sphincter, you adopt a new perspective on matrimony.

JEALOUSY: You've probably said to yourself, "I could never handle my wife getting porked for a living." We've all said it, but when cupid perpetrates a drive-by on us and we're writhing on the sidewalk in the throes of love, declarations such as the one above are meaningless. You meet a chick at a nightclub, one thing leads to a quickie wedding in Vegas, and your sense of priorities changes. Jealousy, for one, must be discarded like yesterday's used condom. Sure, your new bride may be suckling on a 16-inch dick and gazing into some himbo's eyes and gurgling, "I love the taste of your frothy jizz," but that's just acting, pal. Instead of fuming and scrambling to find the nearest baseball bat, simply marvel at your soulmate's acting talent. Could Winona Ryder get f---ed in both her ass and cunt and remain in character? Of course not. Besides, once a sex scene is finished, chances are your wife will climb off her seed steed and scurry (bowlegged) to the phone to call you. In fact, if she calls while you're at work, you can impress your co-workers by putting her on speaker and having her describe her workday....

Vivid producer Paul Thomas told author Linda Alexander that hardcore sex and love do not have much to do with each other. "They come from different shockers in the body. When someone's watching a love story, they're coming from the heart and the heart is warming up, the soul is warming up. They don't want to see somebody f--- somebody, or suck somebody's cock, or cum in their mouth. That's not what they want. It takes them to a much different place. I don't think you can mix too many different levels, too many different shockers in one movie.

"Love and sex don't have a lot to do with each other... They're two different things." (Wizard of X, p. 103)

In the following paragraphs I describe various marriages among porners.

Veteran Brittany O'Connell has learned to do things her way.

Born 12/6/72, the petite redhead boasts a great smile "and the kind of looks that one wouldn't expect from one of the greediest cock takers throwing it down in the dirty movies. Brittany's best sex on screen comes in Alex deRenzy's Slave to Love. She easily handles the long lumber of Randy Spears and Sean Michaels... One of her most adorable traits is how demurely she takes a thick tool in her little tush. In the past year she has enlarged her breasts and increased her credits to 200 titles." (Jeremy Stone)

"I have built a reputation as a nasty little bitch who swallows cum and takes it in every hole she can," writes O'Connell on her internet site (http://www.brittanyoconnell.com) "while all the time looking like a prim and proper college student."

The sweet petite, who appears in such flicks as Wild Breed and Hooker, divorced her husband John, ten years her senior, in 1996.

They met on a college field trip to an Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona and soon moved in together. In addition to attending college, they both worked. John toiled at an auto parts store and Brittany worked as a cashier at that repository of American values - Wallmart.

Partly because of their poverty, Brittany wanted to become a stripper. John initially opposed the move because he thought it'd hurt their relationship. He'd married a stripper when he was 19 and the relationship ended quickly in divorce.

O'Connell eventually got her way and she danced at the prestigious Robin Seven Seas Club in Phoenix, Arizona. The club enforced strict rules against fraternizing between patrons and dancers, and John and Brittany experienced no problems in their relationship due to her new job.

The club showed pornos on closed circuit TV and Brittany decided she wanted to star in them. The couple visited Chuck Traynor, the former manager and husband of porn stars Linda Lovelace and Marilyn Chambers, at his gun store in La Vegas. Expecting a fee in return which he didn't receive, Traynor referred them to talent agent Jim South in the San Fernando Valley.

With $120 in their pocket, John and Brittany moved to LA and on their first day Brittany found work. She sports the innocent girlish look porn fans love. The first time he met her, HEVG's Captain Sid expected Brittany to proposition him with Girl Scout cookies.

The 19-year old redhead was so nervous her first time on - Constant Cravings by Jim Enright - that people on the set took bets on when she'd throw up. It didn't happen. Instead, she got a big role in her third movie - Seka's comeback vehicle American Garter.

A couple of weeks later, Brittany performed double penetration for the first time in her life in Gregory Dark's New Wave Hookers 3.

"Girls [in porn] get the respect and understanding they deserve from fans," says O'Connell. "It's a boost to realize that your work is noticed. You feel appreciated and put on a pedestal."

Brittany recommends her fans watch her in Sodomania and Sodomania 4 "because it's such a stretch from my personality. I'm not a dominant person in real life. I'm sweet and easygoing."

Shy, Brittany has no close friends in the industry aside from her pretty boyfriend Rick O'Shea.

"Society says girls enter this industry because they have problems, that they don't like what they do, that they don't have any intelligence. It's not true. I graduated high school at age 17. I've been through two years of college. My major was Astrophysics. I simply enjoy porn."

Most of all, she enjoys the attention and the money. Coming from a strict upbringing, Brittany glories in her freedom.

"She was shy when I first met her," says her ex-husband John. "She hadn't done much. She started to like getting attention for her looks and so she began dressing differently. This snowballed until she went all out for attention by getting into pornos."

John woke up one morning to find, Oh My God, I Married An Anal Queen. "Newlywed Buck Adams comes home to find his house being used for a porn shoot and his bride (Brittany O'Connell) about to be anally plundered. Buck carries Brittany over the threshhold and lays her down on the carpet in the foyer. Brittany gets Buck-f---ed in every position. Buck gives her the anal pleasure she craves and comes on her pink tongue..." (AFW 97)

Though marrying an anal queen can be hard on the psyche, it's good for the pocketbook. John and Brittany spent their newfound wealth on drugs such as speed, cars, watches and other toys.

Though they had an open relationship, John wanted to know who Brittany slept with off the set. He claims that she slept with numerous men without telling him. Her lovers supposedly included a member of her Florida dance crew, a man in her Canada dance crew, and a marine in Hawaii.

John visited Brittany in Hawaii and found cum stains, not his, on the sheets. All told, John says he discovered nine affairs Brittany had behind his back which she later confessed to him.

The breaking point in their relationship, says John, came in June 1995 when he found a Satanic Bible on his desk. He claims Brittany began living with a "Satanic cult" called the Vampire Crew. Out of Huntington Beach, they once owned a stripper agency Caliber that was shut down by the law on charges of prostitution. Britt's main man of the moment - B-grade porn stud Rick O'Shea, supposedly heads this "Satanic cult."

Brittany laughs at John's charges. "I don't run with a satanic cult and never left a Satanic Bible or any kind on his desk," she told the magazine Sexpose.

Scared by his wife's "satanism" and drug problems, John called Brittany's parents in Arizona to give them the news that their youngest daughter worked hardcore.

"I'm ashamed that I called them," says John. "But I feared that Brittany was losing her mind."

But for the next three weeks, it was Brittany's parents who struggled to retain sanity, says John, so devastated were they by the news. Secular liberals who dabble in the pagan New Age movement, Britt's parents had been out of touch with their daughter for years.

After trying for three weeks to reach O'Connell's parents, John and Brittany prepared to fly back to Arizona to see them. But on the day before they were scheduled to leave, Brittany's parents answered the phone for the first time in weeks and the four of them talked for hours.

"I was brought up in a strict household," says Brittany. "in the sense that my parents wanted me to go on to college and get my Ph.D. in physics. I graduated high school two years early and went straight into college. It broke my parents' hearts that I couldn't go to school anymore."

Brittany says her parents were not devastated by the news of her porn career. "They thought John was upset about it because he was losing his meal ticket. John was born a fundamentalist Baptist, so he had a hard time accepting the new age movement...

"My parents have an open mind when it comes to sex. They don't mind watching it, but I didn't think they could handle knowing their youngest daughter was doing it. Right now, my relationship with my parents is very good. They came out and spent Christmas with me.

"One reason I lost contact with them for a while was that I was going through problems with John and I didn't want them involved in that. They were upset about my marriage to John, because I married so young, and after the divorce, I found they didn't like him anyway." (Sexpose 6/97)

After the drama over the phone with her parents, Brittany, who'd earned most of the couple's income for years, decided in June 1995 to file for divorce. John reacted initially with defiance, which soon turned into depression. For six weeks he sat alone in the house doing speed, calling Brittany constantly and "driving her crazy."

John eventually ran out of money in August 1995, quit drugs, and lived out of his truck. He worked in Florida for a few weeks, got laid off, and returned to LA. Jay Ashley, the husband of porn star Kaitlyn Ashley, rescued John and allowed him for weeks to stay rent-free in the Ashley guest house.

John resumed work behind the scenes in adult productions, paid rent and ran Kaitlyn's fan club, just as he once did for his wife. He stayed in the sex business despite it destroying two of his marriages and almost his life.

Brittany's ex-husband felt better about himself now that he earned his own way. "I didn't enjoy being called a pimp or a leach boyfriend," said John in the summer of 1996, the last time we spoke. He said he'd been drug free for six months.

"I don't support wife-beating, but I do understand it.

"Brittany O'Connell is not the girl I married. She was a smart kid. We had good conversations.

"During her journey into porn she became more cynical, more into satanism. She wore a Pentagram around her neck."

Brittany brought police one summer night, 1996, to Jay and Kaitlyn Ashley's home, where John lived in the guesthouse, so she could repossess the pick-up John drove.

The cops pulled guns on John and created a ruckus in the neighborhood. Infuriated, John determined to drive a hard bargain with Brittany over their divorce settlement.

In late summer 1996, police arrested John for outstanding warrants back in Ohio and he languishes in jail. Kaitlyn and her ex-husband Jay report that John stole from them.

"After a rocky divorce and a year on the road dancing," writes Brittany on her web site, "I needed a break… I decided to make the best fan club… I wrote "Fanzine" which contains photos and stories about my current events… It was a hit… In January 1995 I began to produce direct solo videos of myself… shooting some of the taboo stuff the bigger companies wouldn't… Cum along with me for a ride into my sexual and perverted mind!"

Porn's most talked about couples include the Lees - Bud Lee and his porn star wives Hyapatia Lee and Asia Carrera - as well as southerners Jordan Lee and her husband-manager Jerry.

Born 9/55, director Bud Bennett Lee has three older sisters and an older foster brother who died of AIDS in early 1996. Bud's parents divorced when he was four and his dad drifted out of his life. Lee still feels the pain of a father who shows little interest in him and has never met Bud's youngest son, born in 1990. The director also has a son born in 1987. The boys spend most of their time with their mother Hyapatia Lee.

Bud's mother never remarried after her divorce. She raised the children and then attended college to become a psychiatrist. She died in March, 1988.

Bennett describes his childhood as normal. "Mom taught us to be self-reliant." The family attended the liberal Protestant church Disciples of Christ.

Bud led a Christian youth program in his teens and attended the Lexington Theological Seminary for a semester. He abandoned his faith at age 23 when he was raped by three black men. "Where was this protective caring deity when I needed him?"

A popular football player in high school who lost his birginity at age 13, Bud majored in Dramatic Arts and Film at Indiana University while experimenting with drugs and straight and gay sex.

In 1979 he met Hyapatia Lee. Bud was a friend of her therapist. Bud manned a video camera for Playboy's coverage of the 1979 Miss Nude Galaxy contest won by Hyapatia that year. They married in 1980. Consonant with the Cherokee tradition, Bud took on Hyapatia's last name of Lee. The couple entered porn after her repeat 1981 Miss Nude Galaxy victory.

At the time Bud worked a vice-president of a finance company but he quit when Hyapatia asked him to be her husband. "Why don't we get married and travel on the road - I'll take care of the money." Bud accepted but found out the truth of the Talmudic dictum "He who marries for money will pay for it."

"We live in a "Never Never Land," says Bud about the porn industry. "Everybody's Peter Pan. The actors never have to grow up. They could be irresponsible little children until the day they die, and people will still hire them. We producers are so aware of what we're asking people to do that we're forgiving of their inadequacies. "You're willing to share your intimacy with me? Great, you can show up an hour and a half late - I'll still let you work. If you or I showed up an hour late, we'd get fired… Another thing that amazes me is how much people will abuse themselves. You put a dollar sign in front of a figure and they'll say, "Sure, I'll do it." Many women have penetration on camera who are almost totally lesbian. They hate men so much it doesn't f---ing matter to them.

"That's about 40% of the women. It also amazes me how long women hang on to losers. For a long time I struggled with whether I was a loser or not. Hyapatia told me, "Don't get a job. I need you or I can't do this job." It was excruciating to me to be what some producers call a "suitcase pimp" - a guy who's willing to accept that his wife or girlfriend f---s other men because it makes a lot of dough, but they don't like it, so they put her down for it. But they won't call her a slut unless they're really mad at her. "After Hyapatia and I had been in the business three years, we became monogamous," Bud told Hustler Erotic Video Guide in 1994. "My girlfriend [now wife] Asia Carrera was saying to Hyapatia recently, "Come on, he's Bud Lee, he gets pussy all the time. Every girl wants to be in his films. They'll even ball him for it." But I won't be unfaithful. Hyapatia had sex with other guys when we were married because it was her job. The roles required it. Even if she acted like she was turned on, nobody could touch her. Only I could do that.

"I can deal with the woman I love having sex on camera. As a director, my job demands that I be impersonal about sex."

Bud's mother didn't approve of his career in pornography. One of his sisters also doesn't approve, another one doesn't care and another sister and her husband are fans of his work.

Lee performed with his wife in their first movie Some Like It Hot and proceeded to act in about 20 flicks, mainly with Hyapatia before moving full-time behind the camera. The long-haired hippie directed the lush and expensive Ribald Tales of Canterbury. It's porn's version of Heaven's Gate with too much money spent on the peripheral.

"It's pronounced "RIB-ald" not "RYE-bald"," Bud's wife Asia Carrera interjected into our Spring 1996 conversation. "You've [Bud] been saying it wrong for fifteen f---ing years. I've looked up the pronunciation in two dictionaries."

"She's a scholastic geek," Bud explains with a smile. Asia has an IQ of 154.

Asia interrupted Bud several times that evening to correct his pronunciation of words. It didn't appear to bother him.

Bud, an ordinary looking man, first married while at Indiana University. It lasted from 1975-79. His marriage to Hyapatia ran from 1980 to 1992. The couple were famous for swinging, though both deny the reality of the rumors. In his book Raw Talent, Jerry Butler describes one incident where Bud supposedly told him that he wanted to eat out his ass while Jerry f---ed his wife.

Hyapatia Lee

A leading brunette beauty of 1980s porn, Hyapatia Lee resides near the East Coast with her new husband and two boys. Her third child is due in March, 1998.

After a childhood and first marriage stained by abuse, the dark beauty who is half American Indian exudes a sense of peace with her lot combined with a desire to do her part towards creating a more caring, natural and less judgmental society.

Born 11/11/62 to a 15-year old unready for her, Hyapatia grew up with her grandmother, a full-blooded Cherokee. 'Hyapatia' is an English bastardization of a Cherokee name for cat-like.

At age nine, Hyapatia moved in with her mother and stepfather Don who proceeded to molest and rape her. Lee returned to her grandmother at age 14, after graduating eighth grade.

Hyapatia gave her first voluntary blowjob to secure the love of an older boyfriend. "I worried about keeping his affection, so I figured, I better do this. I looked at some magazines my mom had around the house and read The Happy Hooker.

"This guy and I did dinner theater together. I was 15 and he was about 28. We had been having sex regularly, and one of the times I just went down on him and surprised him. I was anxious at first, and too quick. He helped me. I expected a bad taste but it was clean and nice."(Hustler)

Hyapatia enjoys older men. "When I was 16, I was running around with an older crowd, and I played a game with myself to see how old a guy I could f---. I thought older guys could teach me more about sex - and I still feel that way. I hope I always keep learning! There's an old Indian philosophy that when you know it all, you're ready to die. I'm not ready." (Hustler)

While 15 and 16 years of age, Hyapatia dated a man 13 years older. "The guys I'd been with before hadn't explained how they liked their cocks sucked, but he told me the specifics.

"Older guys aren't so excited about having pussy that they explode instantaneously. I like the slower, laid-back thing - taking time and having fun with oral sex, positions, acting out different roles." (Hustler)

Upon turning 18, Hyapatia moved into her own apartment. One morning she awoke to find a man holding scissors, standing over her. He raped her.

For years afterwards Hyapatia closed off her sexuality. Hating men, she underwent years of therapy and anti-depressant medications.

After marrying a friend of her therapist, Bud Bennett, she entered porn in 1983 after signing an exclusive contract with Harry Mohney's Caribbean Films. In her first three productions, Hyapatia only performed with Bud.

"The business gave me self-esteem and self-confidence. It allowed me to explore my own sexuality. I was like a rose bud that had opened too early. I had to shut down for a while. Then with Bud, I opened up again."

Bud directed one of Hyapatia's favorite movies, perhaps the highest budgeted porno of all time, The Ribald Tales of Canterbury. Lee also respects The Masseuse which she did for Vivid's Paul Thomas. It contains only one sex scene.

"During the Golden Age we made real movies that just happened to have sex in them. The business changed dramatically during the late '80s…" Hyapatia refused to change with it, insisting on only performing in quality productions with appropriate scripts. After three years with Caribbean, she moved to Essex for a year, then signed with Vivid until retiring in 1991 because of the AIDS scare.

During 1990, Hyapatia teamed up with pornographer Ira Levine (Ernest Greene) to promote awareness of sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS among the adult industry. She met with company owners, directors and producers, asking for mandatory condom use. Many people laughed in her face. "They said that our [performers'] lives weren't important enough to take a few minutes to use protection… My life was threatened if I went to the media about the AIDS problem… I remember listening to the president of the World Health Organization's Taskforce on AIDS say in 1991 that it was inevitable that the disease would spread throughout the industry. That's when I quit.

"I thought people in the business would be more responsible. I was shocked when I heard one woman who had just given birth say that it did not matter if we died because none of us had families…

"Budgets plunged in the late '80s. Producers no longer sort to make movies… I remember one night we were working overtime… While lying on the bed, I looked up and saw lights exploding. I dove away just in time. I could've been badly burned…

"Everything became wall-to-wall… double anal… circus acts… I never did any anal, or DPs or S-M. I never did anything that made me feel uncomfortable.

"Survivors of incest and rape need to feel in control. For our violations were not primarily sexual, but matters of power."

Hyapatia says that the stories regarding her swinging life were just that, stories. "I have been monogamous most of my life outside of my movie work. I never participated in the lifestyle. It was just a job. I never spent more than four months a year in Los Angeles."

In late 1983, Hyapatia and Bud began ingesting cocaine, before giving up the drug 18 months later. "It was taking over our lives… One day we looked at each other and said 'this is stupid. We are spending money on something that, by weight, is more expensive than gold. ' And we quit. Anyone with self-respect can do it. There are lots of organizations that will help."

Hyapatia gave birth to two boys while married to Bud, the first in 1987. "When my first child was born, it took about nine months to adjust," she told Hustler Erotic Video Guide. "The hardest part was to adjust to what other people's views of mothers and motherhood is, because it's a sacred space, as compared to other people's stereotypical views of what a porno star is."

"Our sons will grow up with an un-neurotic attitude toward sex and nudity," claimed Hyapatia. "There is nothing to be ashamed of in what I do. I'm more concerned with other influences, such as society's moral judgements and violence on TV, which is the true pornography."

A traditional leftist, Lee's biggest concern is outside forces - TV, society, economics, capitalism, Christianity, judgementalism, sexism, patriarchy, etc.

"I'm concerned about their friends from school, teachers... Kids can be vicious to each other.

"What path my sons decide to take in their adult lives is entirely their business. I wouldn't recommend nor disallow porn involvement. If they decided that is what they want to do, I would sit them down and give them some advice. Who better, right? I would tell them not to do anything they don't want to do, which is true for any profession." (HEVG 7/93)

Through 1996, Lee home-schooled her boys.

Hyapatia's success strained her first marriage. She earned far more money than Bud. "He adjusted to my schedule… This business glamorizes women, and pays them more than men.

"Our society is sexist. It expects men to be the major wage earner. And when he realizes that she makes more, it damages his self-esteem. People say to him, 'how you can let her do this [kind of work]?' As though she was his slave. He feels looked down upon…emasculated. The natural response is to get angry. He cannot beat up society, he can only get out his frustrations on something physical within his reach…"

Bud first beat Hyapatia in 1987, and over the next few years thrashed her half-a-dozen times, as he would his next wife, Asia Carrera. Once in a hotel room in Canada, Bud strangled Hyapatia until she passed out. After twelve years of marriage, most of them good, the couple divorced in 1992. Their two boys spend almost all their time with their mother. Hyapatia says Bud displays no interest in them and he owes almost $50,000 in child support.

"Society causes such men to beat up their partners," says Hyapatia. "Society makes them feel belittled." She blames the Judeo-Christian tradition for establishing many of the standards that supposedly screw up people. "Native American society is usually matrilineal. Both property and the last name are passed down through the woman. When Bud married me, he took on my last name - Lee. The standards we have now were not here before Columbus… Until a few years ago, the Cherokee tribe was headed by a woman, Wilma Mankiller."

Hyapatia appeared in about 30 X-rated movies. Vivid released Bud Lee's Snakedance in 1993. "Hyapatia seems like a cross between an enviro-freak and a ball busting female," writes critic Pat Riley, "that, judging by some of her other performances these days, she probably is in real life. As to her laudatory remarks about Indian "culture", if this was so great how come most Indians live in poverty on grotty reservations?" (X-Rated Videotape Guide 4, p. 523)

"Pat Riley's comments are racist," responds Hyapatia. "He knows nothing about the culture... Our people do not regard wealth as a measure of spiritual success and our connection to the Great Spirit and the world we live in is of utmost importance. Most of the reservations are poor because the US Government has given us the poorest land in the country on which to live. Only the Navajo have their original homeland. The government has also taken mineral and water rights away from the tribes land. The Navajo and Sioux have uranium mining taking place on their land, the profits of which are solely the governments. With little tourism and no way to obtain a loan (prejudices still abound) few can start businesses. The BIA is the official bank of the Native Americans, we are forbidden from using any other bank under federal law. It is a fairly well known fact that the BIA has LOST Billions of Native dollars, as they are a corrupt organization. All these misplaced moneys obviously came out of my people's hands. If Mr. Riley was forced to run his finances this way, and his money was confiscated, he would be poor too! The prejudice against my people is very strong and not often reported as it takes place not in big cities, but in rural areas... Ignorant people will say 'Why don't they just move off the reservation?' Our people value family. They do not wish to leave their support groups and families just to move to a place where trees and nature have been destroyed. They value these things greater than money."

In The Red Garter, director Anthony Spinelli helped Hyapatia create one of her best roles, as Stacy, the owner of a topless bar. Her best sex scene comes last. After a girl-girl scene at the beginning, Hyapatia goes through the whole show trying to cope with the antics of her wild strippers. At closing time, her lawyer (Richard Pacheco) arrives to talk business.

Over drinks in Stacy's office, he confides that he'd love to see her dance. She jumps up on the runway of the empty club, bumping and grinding and tossing off her clothes. Pacheco joins her for a prolonged bout of varied sex.

In Body Girls, Hyapatia operates a body-building gym. Her big scene comes when she strips and shows herself to two musclemen. Off come the guys' clothes, and all three go to the mat for a vigorous workout.

Lee plays a writer in Sweet Dreams who goes with her husband Bud to their mountain cabin to write a movie script about her erotic longings. As soon as Hyapatia fantasizes, the action jumps. (AFW 3/87 p. 16, 17)

Bob Chinn directed Let's Get Physical. Hyapatia Lee and husband Paul Thomas watch their ballet school grow while their marriage sinks into a sea of guilt and broken dreams. Thomas plays a promising ballet dancer who is injured in a fiery auto accident after being caught in a marital indiscretion by his furious wife. He's left crippled and impotent while she grows horny.(AVN 97)

Aside from being a wife and mother, Lee now sings with the rock group Vision Quest. She dresses modestly so as to not distract from the music.

Hyapatia says her time in porn has not come back to haunt her. "It was in the past… If someone wants to hate me, they can always find something, but few people give me any trouble over my films. It does not affect my kids." Yet Lee asked me to not publish the state she lives in. "I have innocent children to protect, besides my husband and self, and we have had numerous experiences with stalkers."

The ex-porn star looks back on the industry as "scummy… It's changed for the worst since the Golden Age."

In early 1997, Lee remarried. Her husband is part American Indian. "Native Americans do not see sex as dirty or nasty," says Hyapatia. "We see it as a part of nature, and therefore good. Repression of sex results in a pressure cooker that causes rape. Through my movies, I was trying to better society through a creating a more open view of human sexuality."

Hyapatia remains in touch with only one person from the sex industry - Porsche Lynn. They share an American Indian Medicine Man in Arizona, Swift Deer.

Bud remembers making love to a woman who called him "Daddy" whenever she got turned on. He says that was her way of getting the love she never received as a child.

Lee enjoys fantasizing about rape which he likes to "lovingly explore... I'll create this scenario. She goes into the bathroom, and then comes out into a dark room. She asks "Where are you?" But I don't answer her. She feels around for the light switch and as she's reaching for it, I grab her hand. I "attack" her. Fear and terror bring out sexual feelings.

"Hyapatia and I frequently reversed the roles. She'd roll on top of me, wrap a hand around my throat, slap me, and say: "Eat my pussy, and you better make me feel good. Understand?"

"Coming on a woman's face is debasing to her, but if that's what she wants, it's ok. I'd rather have a woman swallow my cum because then I feel that she's experiencing me in every way. She's saying, 'I accept you, Bud. I accept you fully.'

"Pissing inside someone after you come is interesting…" (HEVG)

In its January 1995 issue, Adult Video News wrote:

An incensed Bud Lee tried to head off rumors claiming that Lee pistol whipped his current girlfriend Asia Carrera in a drunken frenzy. According to Lee, the story was being spread by Carrera's ex-boyfriend Tony Tedeschi (you'll remember Tedeschi's participation in the Johnathan Morgan "gay" incident).

The story supposedly had Lee being fired by Vivid, going on a drinking spree and being committed to an alcohol sanitarium, thus touching off the incident.

While Lee admits that, yes, he entered a 30-day program (paid for by Carrera, by the way) back in October, he has been sober since that time. Making the Tedeschi-reported incident appear even more ludicrous, Lee said that he has asked Carrera to marry him and that she has accepted. Lee, of course, states that the pistol-whipping incident is a fabrication and Tedeschi's desperate act of sour grapes.

"Asia and I are close and in love for as long as can be," says Lee. "We were very happy with one another.

"But I feel very vindictive about Tony Tedeschi and would be tempted to destroy his career, though he's very good at doing that himself," Lee went on to say.

"I want the truth to be known that he (Tedeschi) is talking out of his ass. As far as the rumors about Vivid, I AM their director."

Soon after the 1/95 edition of AVN hit the stands, Vivid fired Lee.

I interviewed Bud and Asia Carrera at their apartment in the Spring of 1996. Bud confessed to pistol whipping Asia in a drunken frenzy. Asia still carries scars from the beating.

"When you work for a big company, they have rules and regulations that crap on people," Bud told me, "and when you carry out those rules, you get the reputation for crapping on people. So you have to throw off that cloak and show your true colors.

"I went from being one of the better filmmakers in the business to being the second person on the totem pole asked to make one or two day films. My product was never as good as it was. Asia didn't even believe me that I was as good as Paul Thomas until I sat her down and showed her some of my best films pre-Vivid.

"All their big projects went to Paul Thomas. I got the stuff he wasn't interested in. I was the only person who shot one-day films. That's film, not video. I got two days to make pictures while PT took up to five days.

"I put up with that because they paid me regularly.

"Paul Thomas and I were initially complimentary. I thought that I was being groomed for PT's position because PT appeared to be moving on to the R-rated genre. But that failed. So PT had to make X."

"Certain people look forward to every day as an opportunity to screw over other people," says Bud. "I'm not one of those people but I became that way - manipulative, producer-like, controlling - through working for Vivid. I didn't like myself. It got to the point where I stopped wanting to go to the set, and I love going to the set.

"Vivid operates by screwing people over. They tell each contract girl that she is going to be the big star this year. "You'll be in our big movie." They say this to everyone but it only works out for one of the girls.

"Vivid makes agreements and then weasels out of them. It was my job to make deals with the talent. I'd tell someone she'd get $1500 for two scenes, but the person in control of the money, Paul Thomas, would say that she's only worth $1400 and write that check. I'd look bad. Invariably what would happen is that Bud would reach into his pocket and make it up to them."

Bud maintains his friendship with Paul Thomas but says he doesn't like working with him.

Bill Margold, along with Jim Holliday and other knowledgeable pornographers, take a harsh view of Vivid. "Vivid essentially packages shit in cellophane and sells it like chocolate," says Margold. "They sell the gloss but gloss can be dross. Vivid has no depth. Their concern is less with turning America on than on turning it to sleep. They market their product in many different ways. They take movies and edit them down for cable TV. They make comfortable, sanctified porn, porn that you can put on the coffee table.

"Vivid girls sweat Channel. If you work for Vivid, you leave your emotions at home and then you get them back when you leave. Ashlyn Gere and Barbara Dare survived their time as Vivid contract girls and moved on to better things."

"People don't jack off to Vivid movies," says Margold. "They tolerate them. I wanted to be jacked off to. I want to create images that will get you up and off."

According to industry reports, Vivid let Bud go after tiring of his alcoholism.

Bud's favorite porn directors are Michael Zen, Andrew Blake and Cameron Grant.

"I make movies for educated white-collar couples 25-50.

"I was raised by women. I'm not into humiliating women. I don't like porn. Porn means rape and degrading women. I make adult movies.

"People who degrade women hate their mothers. I don't hate my mom. I loved my mom."

Hyapatia Lee wrote to me: "Funny to read Bud loved his mother. Why are her ashes still at MY house? I have asked several times for him or one of his sisters to come and get them. After all, we have been divorced for six years. If he loves the women of his family so much, why does his sister… say she had not heard from him since Christmas [ten months ago]?"

Bud Lee: "I have a rule. I will not make anything that I will not sit in a room with a jury and say that the reason I did that is because.

"Gregory Dark can't do that. He goes into a court room in Alabama or Utah and he's shot."

For the record, Utah is a porn-free state and Bud Lee's work is as legally obscene there as Gregory Dark's.

"I don't say to women, "I need a cum shot on your face."

"I like internal cum shots where he pulls out and the cum drips out of her pussy. That's more realistic.

"I don't like sex for no reason.

"Porn is now a means to an end for women [performers]. It used to be a lifestyle. It's like professional sports. Oscar Robertson loved to play the game. Now people first want their paychecks. So you get better looking women and a better quality product. The men are still average looking. They used to be ugly."

Bud and his wife Asia Carrera made the best selling film of mid-1996 A is for Asia where Asia shows off her newly augmented breasts, and for the first time takes facial cum shots and cocks up the ass.

The demure soft-spoken sex performer appears in 150 videos of dramatically varying quality. She generally saves her best work for big-budget features like Aroused, Backstage Pass, Satyr and Babewatch. Though most graceful in her sex scenes, rather than when she "acts," Asia longs to enter the mainstream TV and movie industry.

HEVG: "Asia Carerra has a perfect set of schnoops. Large enough to flop like a fish out of water when she gets f---ed, but small enough to disappear when sunk into someone's gaping mouth [before her '95 breast job]. Asia has been blessed with firmness from her sinewy thighs to her oblong ass to her cute, little pug nose. She's a splendid package whose mixed origins and button-fly pussy made her this month's prime glory hole."

If you look closely at Asia you'll notice her scars - physical and psychological. Her personal problems are as huge as her I.Q. - 154.

Born 8/6/73, Asia is a Leo. Her parents are immigrants - her mother German and her father Japanese. They beat her severely throughout her childhood.

Asia displays few social skills. Her only friends are Bud and a guy back in New Jersey who helped her survive high school in exchange for regular sex.

She only works a couple of days a month to avoid overexposure. Until setting up her web site in late 1996, this brilliant woman spent much of her time playing Nintendo video games.

Carrera's father worked as an actuary and her mother sold real estate. From age six on, Asia looked after the house and her three younger siblings. "Nobody believed me that I was being abused. I'd call John [not his real name] at three in the morning and ask him to pick me up. He would, but he'd also force me to give him blow jobs and other sexual favors.

"My classmates were only nice to me when they wanted to copy. I was the only Asian in the school. They called me "chink," "geek," "beanpole," etc.. By age eleven I stood 5'8 and was the tallest person in the school. I was an ugly kid.

"At age 16, my mother broke a coffee mug over my head and I ran away. I worked three jobs to support myself. After leaving high school, I worked seven nights a week as a go-go dancer while attending Rutgers University on a full academic scholarship."

At age eight, Asia began having sex with a girlfriend and the relationship lasted until she was 13. Carrera no longer enjoys lesbian sex. Asia lost her virginity to John at age 14, at the same time beginning heavy drinking. Her formula for getting through her high school was MB squared. That is, Midol, Benadryl and lots of beer.

"When I was 14, I hung out with these guys looking at pictures of naked women. I wished that guys would look at me like that. I wanted guys to pay attention to me and say that I was pretty, which I wasn't. I wished that I could be a porn star."

At age 18, Asia had her first nose job ($4500) and got her cheeks lipo-suctioned. At age 20, she had her second, and best nose job. At the end of 1995, she got breast implants.

"When I was young, kids called me "Big Nose". I never forgot that, and as soon as I had some money, I got a nose job. I didn't like it so I had it done again."

Though manic depressive and addicted to alcohol, Carrera's fear of needles and distrust of psychiatrists keep her from therapy and using medication. Since childhood, she's attempted suicide every few months. Unsuccessful every time, her acts appear to be screams for attention.

Because she hates needles, Asia drinks for days before her required AIDS tests. Bud then holds her arm down so the nurse can draw blood.

"In high school I tried to hide that I was smart and pretended to be a bimbo." Asia keeps up this pretense with mixed success. Many in the biz dislike her, describing her as a stuck up bitch. "If Asia's so brilliant, then what is she doing in porn?" many ask.

When Asia began performing, she took books on physics with her to the set. But after getting teased, she switched to Stephen King novels. In addition to suspense novels, Asia and Bud also read on satanism - a fascination in Porn Valley where many believe that the enemy of their enemy is their friend. The thinking goes this way - "If Christianity hates pornography, and Christianity hates Satan, then Satan and I have a lot in common."

"I've always been an atheist," says Asia. "Science explains everything. There is no meaning in life except to be the best at something. If only I could be the best at something, perhaps my parents would love me.

"Religion is silly," says Asia. "When you're dead, you turn into a source for future flowers and plants.... I don't know what's on the other side of death and it scares me. Darkness and nothingness scare me. I'd rather face the miseries of my day-to-day life than turn into darkness.

Asia saves most of her money and invests it. She reads the Wall Street Journal every day and wanted to vote for Steve Forbes in the 1996 Republican Presidential Primary. Her preoccupation with financial security is an attempt to find emotional security after an abusive childhood whose physical and psychological scars have yet to heal.

Uncomfortable with other people, Carrera stays home most of the time, playing video games, working on her internet site and, when the mood hits her, practicing the piano. At ages 13 and 14, she performed on the piano at Carnegie Hall but her parents made her quit so she'd concentrate on more serious subjects. "My best friend won the piano competition the first year. I began playing the piano because she played but I could never compete with her because her mother was the best teacher in New Jersey."

Asia wants to star in an Amadeus-like porno. "It opens up in the 18th Century and I'm playing on a little piano, white powered wig and hoop skirt and I'm playing for the King and Queen of Austria in a huge Renaissance building. Then it switches to the present day where I'm a starving artist trying to get a job. Any time I get depressed it's because no one wants to give me a job. All they want to do is f--- me. But I have this secret world I can go to - the 18th Century where I'm in love with Mozart and we have a passionate affair."

Carrera writes science-fiction stories which she doesn't allow anyone to read. "I don't want to hear that they stink.

"I'm a perfectionist to such a point that it has crippled me. I can't do anything with anybody. I'm afraid to leave the house because I might screw up. I won't drive, pick up the telephone, do anything. It's crippling me. At some point I won't get out of bed anymore.

"I feel I'm useless and can't do anything when, in truth, there's nothing that I can't do. I aced every subject at school but I was never the best. I got 1440 on my SATs but I met someone who did better and I felt like crap. Every time I find out that I'm not the best at something, I don't want to do it anymore.

"I was surprised to win AVN's Performer of the Year Award [1994]. I have this nagging doubt that somebody bought me the award.

"I would bring home As to my parents and they'd say, 'But these are all low As. You can do better than this.' There was nothing that I could do that was good enough. It's still that way when I try to patch things up with my mom. I sent her a picture from A is for Asia. She called me up. "I got your picture."

I said, "Don't you think it's beautiful?" It was my favorite picture of me.

"She said, "Are you wearing a wig?" I said, "No, that's my hair."

"You look cross-eyed. Are you cross-eyed?"

"Forget it. There's nothing I can do to please them.

"I keep thinking that if I can be perfect enough, I can make my parents love me."

Asia doesn't like meeting fans. "Not because I have a problem with them, but because I'm so shy. I cry the night before and wish that I had never gotten into the business. When I get up in the morning, I drink shots of tequila or I couldn't say a word. Then I get out there and meet everyone and come home exhausted and hate my job. I cry again.

"When I make a movie, I see the same people every time. None of them stare at you."

Asia only smokes when she's nervous, such as during our interview. She uses 'girls' cigarettes, Capri, because "if you smoke Marlboros on the set, everyone will steal them. But no guy is going to smoke a Capri."

Before entering porn, Asia frequented bondage clubs in New York. "Every Saturday night my ex-fiance and I used to go to a place called The Vault. He'd get tied up and beaten by the resident mistress. She'd put him in handcuffs, blindfold him and then strip him. After that, she'd give him the whip. She'd walk around in circles and whip him and tease him. I'd sit there and watch.

"I was never a dominatrix. At home, I'm totally submissive. I like to be totally dominated by someone who's a lot stronger than I am. I enjoy not having any control over the situation."

Just after her 20th birthday, Asia shot a nude layout for Club magazine in New York.

She told the photographer she wanted to do adult films and he gave her Bud Lee's phone number in Los Angeles. A couple of months later, in December of 1993, Asia flew to LA. Because of a mix-up, no one was there to meet her. In tears, she ended up booking herself into a hotel that took advantage of her confusion by assigning her an expensive suite that she never used. Bud eventually found her later that day.

Asia also got f---ed on her first day on the set. Though she had sex with eight guys, her biggest screwing came from the production company Vivid which paid her only $800. Bud directed the shoot, but Paul Thomas signed the checks and, according to Bud, as a matter of principle Paul screws everyone for all he can get. Because of such shenanigans, Bud says he quit working for Vivid. Asia, however, never lets him forget the financial pounding she took on her porn debut.

"Paul Thomas is a challenge to work with," says Asia, "but I like his product. He loses his temper a lot on the set. He'd rather make R-rated movies, so he tends to degrade what we do. When something doesn't work out he screams "God dammit, it's just a f---ing porno movie, do it!

"For my first eight months in the business, I was known jokingly as "the unsigned Vivid Girl," because I shot more movies for them than any of their actual contract girls. The Vivid directors liked me because I was reliable and hard-working, and also got along with all the Vivid girls. PT and Bud urged Steve Hirsch to sign me early on, but Steve wasn't interested because I wasn't a beautiful blonde knockout like Janine, Kelly Jaye, Lene Hefner and Dyanna Lauren.

"All the girls at Vivid look the same. It makes things hard for them. Most guys seem to like blonde girls with big tits, but there's so many of them in this business it's hard for any of them to stand out - unless they're drop-dead gorgous like Janine. You see them come in the business and their hair gets blonder and their boobs get bigger, and eventually they all start looking alike.

"Because Steve Hirsch never visited sets or watched Vivid movies, my perfectionist-workaholic nature, eagerness to please, and reliably solid performances meant nothing to him. But when Vivid's boxcover photographer, art department and head of sales also started pushing Steve to sign me, he finally offered a contract in August [1993?] and I signed a 12-month deal for a minimum of eight movies. Steve was glad he signed me when I got a record-breaking ten AVN nominations, even though every one was earned when I was still the "unsigned Vivid girl."

"I wound up making 24 movies for Vivid that year, more than most of the Vivid girls make in their entire careers. I became unhappy at Vivid after six months. It would be difficult to convince me to commit to one company again. I think any girl with motivation, and a decent head on her shoulder, can do much better by freelancing and making her own career choices. (With the possible exception of Jenna [Jameson] and the massive Wicked PR Hype machine, which generates roughly the press coverage equivalent of a presidential candidate caught doing drugs with a gay lover a week before election day.) When a company has seven or eight girls, the promo gets spread thinly, since only one girl can star in the biggest production, or get to the best promotional gigs…

"Vivid mistakenly assumed that I would renew my contract without ever bothering to ask me, and I kept my mouth shut right until the end. My departure in the 11th month caught Vivid off-guard. They were stuck with a half-dozen unreleased Asia movies, while competing adult companies hastily churned out their own Asia Carrera movies, hoping to profit from Vivid's advertising dollars. The entire saga of my Vivid tenure is complicated with layers upon layers of misunderstandings, deceit, manipulation, back stabbing… My disagreements with Vivid were entirely unrelated to Bud's dealings with them, and out partings were several months apart." (RAME)

Shortly after entering porn, Asia appeared in a Playboy newsstand special under her real name Jessica Bennett, much to the chagrin of the company who found out only after the slick hit the stands. (Dick O'Stone) Playboy avoids porn girls, even requiring its models to promise not to do hardcore.

"I was shooting for Bud before he was my boyfriend," Asia told Hustler Erotic Video Guide in late 1994. "I was going with Tony Tedeschi and Bud directed us. Bud fell in love with me and started making things difficult for us. He threatened us with losing our jobs, so Tony and I broke up and I started going around with Bud. It's awkward at times. I don't want to do the same things with people at work that I do with him, because I don't want his feelings to be hurt. I don't want the scene to come out too good, because I fear that he'll get jealous.

"Bud chased me down until I gave in. I had no interest in him. I was perfectly happy with Tony. Bud broke us up. I was lonely, so now I'm with him…

"I come with every guy I work with. The only guy who couldn't make me come was Ed Powers.

"I made all these little rules - I don't want to do two guys, do toys, facials, interracial, blacks, anal....

"I get self-conscious on camera. The worst thing is when they tell me to get nastier. It's not like me to be nasty. I was raised to be classy.

"The only porn that turns me on is Andrew Blake or Cameron Grant. I want to see the beautiful girls and listen to nice music. Like Janine and Julianne in Blondage. You have two gorgeous girls, sensual and into other girls. Blake said if he could keep men out of scenes altogether he would, and so would I.

"I only have vaginal orgasms, not clitoral ones. Girls can't make me come."

Bud and Asia deplore the lack of non-Caucasians used in big budget porn. "I'm ok because I'm only half-Asian," says Asia.

But neither will put their money and reputation where their mouth is. If there was a huge unfilled demand for big budget productions with blacks, asians and other persons of color, you'd think Asia with her yen for money would produce them. But neither she nor Bud will take the risk. They want someone else to.

Even if Asia and Bud made interracial flicks, they'd still face the problem of distributing them. Porn distributors say they have a hard time selling interracial videos to cable companies and to the South.

Asia, like other leading porn stars such as Celeste, refuse on-camera sex with black men. She says it'd upset the powerful bigots who dominate porn production and distribution, and reduce the number of her fans.

"I don't work with any of the black guys in our business because they all have dicks that hang down to their knees.

"I went to my high school prom with a black guy. I dated so many of them in high school that my friends called it my fetish.

"We're not allowed to work with black guys at Vivid because they can't sell such product to Playboy.

"If you're upset that I don't do interracial," Asia wrote via email to Mike Paul, "why don't you go piss and moan to all the magazines that refuse to use me as a cover model because I'm Asian. Why don't you nag all the people who've called me "chink." I've got enough people prejudiced against Asians without having to worry about promoting blacks in porno and saving the rainforests.

"I've never been asked to do a scene with a black guy, so I've never turned one down. If you make higher quality adult movies, it is a silently understood rule that interracial scenes do not sell to cable."

Cinesex is one of Asia's favorite movies. "Metro cheated me. They didn't nominate me for Best Actress or even Best Supporting Actress and I did 40 pages of dialogue.

"Right before the [AVN] nominations went out, Metro fired the guy... and replaced him with Tony Cleary who hadn't seen any of the product. He just looked at the boxes of the good movies and decided that whoever was on the cover was the star of that film."

Because of her experiences with Vivid and Metro, Asia wants to start up her own production company. "Get outside investors and make a movie for them promising X percentage of returns on the money they invested. They'll get to see the porn shoot..."

In ten years Carrera plans to be a stockbroker.

"I'm pacing myself. The pressure is always there to do too much too soon, but making that mistake can burn you out in no time. When girls do an all-anal gangbang on their first day, they practically guarantee themselves a short career. After that, what do you do for an encore? The price increases you get for holding out while you build a name for yourself are a reward for being patient, and not giving in to the crazy dash-for-cash or "get-famous-quick" stunts that burn out hundreds of girls every year after a few short months. Early in my career, I stupidly worked 35 consecutive days, made a buttload of cash, and wound up in the hospital.

"My boob job wasn't a career decision. I was scheduled for a boob job in New Jersey before a guy named Bud Lee asked me to fly out to LA for his shoot that week. Bud told me that natural boobs were a hot commodity, so I said I'd wait. Getting this job has worked wonders for my self-confidence. I wish I'd done it sooner. I don't dance and I don't get paid anymore for having two saline bags in me, but suddenly I love walking around topless at every opportunity."

Asia posted the above sentiments on RAME in July 1997. "It took me a year to screw up the courage to post. My first newsgroups trips used to make me cry - I'd never seen such mean things said about me (by people who'd never met me!), and I wasn't prepared for it at all. Curiosity kept luring me back every couple months, and eventually I stopped crying, and then I stopped even getting angry. I'm like a little robot now, completely jaded to their nastiness, and I'm finally mentally ready to take them on. My strongest weapon has always been my mind, so I need to be able to keep a clear head in these discussions, or I may as well walk in empty-handed with a target hanging on my butt."

A few days later, Asia moved out from Bud and filed for divorce. He remains her best friend. She posted on RAME 11/17/97: " Bud isn't particularly influential or powerful, nor is he hung like a horse. (Bud used to work as talent with Hyapatia in her earlier movies, so I'm not giving away any secret info there.) He's just a nice guy. Truly nice. He would never do anything spiteful or vindictive, would never tell me 'no' on anything I want to do, and has nothing but praise

and support for me in all my efforts. He would also tell me daily that I was the most beautiful woman in the world, and he would willingly make me dinner or run errands for me while I worked online. In other words, Bud treated me like a princess, which was all I ever wanted. I don't want a guy who's rich, or handsome, or hung like a horse. I don't want a guy who thinks he's great, or a guy that all the girls want to steal away from me. I want a sweet, humble guy, who's content to sit at home with me, just one on one, for the rest of our lives together. It's sad that Bud and I didn't work out, but we're still close... He just came over for dinner last night, and my boyfriend did the cooking. The three of us still work together on sets, and we're all good friends.

"P.S. Hyapatia and Bud had problems because she's a bitter, vindictive person who feels that the world owes her a living for hardships she endured when she was younger. Hyapatia is extremely spiteful, and becomes truth-impaired when it comes to getting what she wants. I had to ask Bud to make her page him instead of calling our answering machine, because I was afraid to check the messages anymore. The rants she would leave for him were... interesting."

While most female performers are in relationships, few of their male counterparts are. Most married female performers, such as Jordan Lee, Kylie Ireland and Serenity, don't want their fans to know for it reduces their appeal as sexual playthings.

Jordan & Jerry Lee

"From the Deep South comes one of the most seductive ball drainers to dance on a dick in this decade. Rough and tumble looking, with an air of white trash desperation, Jordan Lee lights up a lewd movie scene with prurient excitement, making her one of our favorite new f--- dolls on an already crowded carnal movie spotlight. She's thickset, with a body that's firm and fully packed. Suck a dick? She inhales a hard-on like its milk from mom's nipples. She's a torrid ass f---, surefire missionary screw star who can take it every which way to Sunday and always serve up a stiff prick from the movie the movie fans. Find a video with Jordan in it and you'll agree that porn queens are nastier now than they were five and ten years ago. Thank God for the new morality. Raise your rod and stroke your stiffie in a sperm shooting salute to her sexuality in Addictive Desire, Anal All Stars, Anal Intruder 9..." (Jeremy Stone, AFW 96D p.36)

Jordan's supposed enthusiasm for sex does not translate over to talking about it with journalists. I spent 15 awkward minutes over the phone with Jordan who refused all questions about her personal life, including the existence of her husband and manager Jerry. She didn't like talking about porn either. Jordan lied about her swastika tattoo, saying that she doesn't have one. She and her husband, who claim German ancestry, have swastikas tattooed on their ankles. Jordan and Jerry caused numerous embarrassing incidents on porn sets because of their dislike of blacks though Jordan now does the token black.

Jordan and Jerry are frequently disliked in this liberal industry for their traditional Southern values.

The first information published on Jordan and Jerry's swastikas came from Hustler Erotic Video Guide 's February, 1995 issue. Jordan Lee then complained to AVN about a "scurrilous rumor" circulating about her, and the trade magazine published a sympathetic article by Mark Kernes describing how the couple had gotten drunk and asked a tattoo artist "to give us something German," but didn't realize until afterwards what they had received. It's a ludicrous story, just one of many that Jordan's told about the origins of her tattoo.

The incident also reveals important differences between AVN and HEVG. HEVG enjoys mocking the industry while AVN tries to protect it.

After AVN's article on Jordan and Jerry, HEVG Editor Michael Louis Albo wrote in to the trade magazine.

Dear AVN,

...I'm still laughing at Mark "Herbert Dingle" Kernes' Boneyard piece on poor Jordan Lee and how she and her husband were duped into getting those terrible swastika tattoos...

Regarding her explanation of how she and her husband acquired the tattoos, the assertion that she and her hubby told the tattoo artist, "Give us something German" and then ended up with matching swastikas defies credibility. Every Jordan Lee model release we've happened to see indicates she (or her husband) is of Italian, not German, ethnicity. Besides, didn't one of them happen to notice what was being done to them before or during the preparation and process of getting inked? (Of course, considering they're from Texas, maybe we should be fair and deduct a few IQ points.)

We shudder to think what might have happened to any hapless motorist, black, white or otherwise, cruising through Texas if these two are typical of that state's law enforcement officers.

Finally, Mr. Kernes' reference to our staff as "pixies' is investigative reporting at its finest. It figures that only a big, fat, Truman Capote-quoting fairy like him would be able to identify the many puckish woodland sprites writing for our magazine.

Mark Kernes replies:

Mike, I can understand your need to lash out, since apparently no one on HEVG's staff bothered to contact Jordan Lee to ask her about the origins of her tattoo (which, as she correctly noted in her [AVN] interview, is never visible on camera), nor whether her selection of whom she'll work with has anything to do with race or religion. Jordan's choice of partners should be exclusively hers, applying whatever criteria she wishes.

(6/95)

Albo's "Herbert Dingle" comment refers to a video featuring Mark's debut as a sex performer. Kernes weighs about 250 pounds on a 5'8" frame. Brandy Alexandre describes Mark as a "slug. He'll do whatever AVN tells him and believes what he's told to believe because this is the closest he can ever get to a woman without having to fork over major change or get his drolling face slapped."

Born on October 6, 1959, in East Prairie, Mississippi, Jordan grew up happily on a farm in Dallas, Texas. She lost her virginity at age 13 in a hayloft.

"I was wild in high school," says Jordan, "the 'head' cheerleader. I liked the football team and the baseball team. More than one person at a time, too. I remember one night, there were three or four guys and me. We did the whole wild thing - on the hood of the car, on the ground, in the swings..."

Jordan graduated from the University of North Texas and became a police officer.

"I got into adult films out of strong desire. I like sex and what easier job could there be for me?

"I like other women...and threesomes - one guy and a gal. I like eating a girl out while I'm being done doggy style.

"I'm still trying to adjust to all the traffic [in LA], smog and my limitations in speaking foreign languages, haha. A word of advice to my fellow Southerners: "Stay home"."

Jordan stands 5'8, weighs 115 pounds and measures 38-20-32. The busty brunette appears in about 300 sexvids. As of the summer of 1997, she was the only porn star to offer a full-service internet sex site.

Kylie Ireland appears in 150 sexvids. Though beautiful, Kylie turns off many viewers by performing her sex scenes with a "I'm doing you a favor look" on her face. The late critic William Rotsler places her among the most beautiful women in porn who don't turn him on.

The buxom blonde stands 5'5", weighs 118 pounds and measures 36D-24-35. She produced Twist of Fate - an all-anal feature for Wicked directed by Bud Lee.

Ireland won AVN's Starlet of the Year award in 1994 and ranks as one of three girls to have won FOXE's Fan Favorite award two years in a row.

Her favorite videos include Fantasy Chamber, The Passion and the Babe Watch series.

Kylie grew up as an only child in Boulder, Colorado, developing a vivid imagination during the many hours she played on her own. A loner in her first two years of high school, she blossomed as a Junior through discovering an interest in the media.

Ireland studied Broadcast Journalism at Palomar College in San Diego where she lives today.

Bi-sexual, she lost her virginity at age 15 to a guy and at 19 to a girl.

Ireland managed a video store out of high school, working over 50 hours a week but only bringing home $750 a month. She answered an ad for a strip club in Fort Collins, Colorado, and soon earned more money in week than she was making in a month. Kylie's hustled her surgically enhanced body ever since.

At the Hunt Club, she met fellow dancer Juli Ashton and they became close friends. While glancing through back issues of AVN, the girls decided that they were at least as pretty as the porn stars they saw, and decided to give porn a shot. Kylie flew to Los Angeles in early 1994, and through a friend, secured her first two movie roles Cherry Pie and L'il Ms. Behaved. She then signed up with Jim South's World Modeling Agency. Juli followed Ireland into Porn Valley six months later.

Kylie says she never expected to be a big video star. She and her husband swung down to LA, expecting her to do a few features, nab some boxcovers and then continue with shaking her tits for strangers on the road. But Kylie so enjoyed the money and adulation that came from performing that she stayed in hardcore.

After doing 100 videos in 1994, Ireland, with her manager-husband Nick, spent most of 1995 on the road. She now appears in half-a-dozen productions a year, all with budgets over $20,000 of which she gets about $1500 per scene.

Nick sits in a back room on these sets, talking about the business of the business with other guys who pimp their girls in the masturbation business. They laugh at suckers who imagine that their wives are sexually available, complain about smut scribes and compare the size of their fan clubs.

I initially erased most things I'd written about Kylie at the request of her husband Nick and kept their relationship out of this essay, until I spotted my original information in several different magazines such as AVN.

Mark Kernes writes from the set of Babewatch: "...Director Buck Adams had just finished a complicated scene with Kylie, Asia and several others.... I watched Kylie, obviously dead tired, fall into the arms of her husband Nick." (AVN)

"I want to give my husband a big hug and a kiss," said Kylie, "because he has been so supportive. I love him. He's taken care of so much of my business and I can't thank him enough. He's been my personal manager, my husband, my lover and my best friend. After ten years, my husband and I are planning to write a book on 'How to Have a Successful Marriage'.

"If we can survive through years of topless dancing, magazines, and the adult film industry and still keep our sanity and stay together, we'll write a book."

Communication may be one problem in their wonderful marriage. Kylie's husband Nick emphatically denied to me the truth of several things I wrote - such as Kylie's regret about doing an anal scene with Ed Powers early in her career - that Kylie later confirmed.

Husbands in porn and out, generally feel less comfortable than their wives in revealing negative information about themselves and their family. According to Nick, everything about Kylie is wonderful. According to Kylie, she's flawed like the rest of us.

The Kylie part of Kylie Ireland's porn name comes from singer Kylie Minogue. The Ireland part comes from her ethnic heritage.

Increasingly affluent, Kylie and Nick dream about retirement. "Our plans are to take all of our money," says Kylie, "and buy a house in Colorado [where Kylie is from and where her family still lives]. We want a few more Siberian Huskies, and then we'd like to buy a sports bar near a resort. I'd like to have a baby. But I have no plans to leave [porn]. You guys are stuck with me. I didn't come into the adult industry to cross over into 'real films'." (AVN 6/945 p.18-19)

Kylie regrets doing her first anal scene early in her career for Ed Powers' New Ends series. "I wish I hadn't done it. I didn't know any better. I'm not sure I could ever do it again on camera."

But she has - several times performing on-camera anal scenes as well as a double penetration with two women. "I prefer working with one guy or girl because you can pay more attention to that person. I love women. I'm bisexual. I prefer girl-girl. Why do I need guys? I'm married. I have a dick." (AVN)
