Surf's Up For Sin City

I took the 10 Freeway West to Santa Monica Tuesday morning and then drove 20 miles north on PCH 1 to a mansion in Malibu for Michael Raven's five-day two-movie shoot for Sin City.

Chatsworth, California - Sin City Entertainment announced today that the company will be filming Blue City and Surf Club, simultaneously, two full-length feature films on High Definition 24P format. This technology is currently being used in mainstream films, such as Star Wars.

The "state of the art" equipment will be handled by the award-winning and critically-acclaimed Director, Michael Raven. The vehicles that Raven will be steering are Sin City Films' Blue City and Surf Club.

I arrive at 10:30AM and find Bud Lee and Jane Waters. "Did Scott say you could come here?" asks Bud. "Yes," I answer. "Who's the production manager?"

Bud: "I am."

I join (Michael Raven's business partner) Scott Justice's friend Jason as he tapes Pat Myne and John West as they eat eggs and meat for breakfast. John is commiserated with about his problems on a recent DP where his male partner kept checking him out in a homo way, killing John's wood. It was on a shoot for Jill Kelly Productions. Ex-Vivid girl Sky was directing.

John: "The guy I was working with was looking at me more than at the chick."

Luke: "Does that happen often?"

Pat: "It only happens often with the one person we're talking about."

Luke: "Did it hurt or help your performance?"

John: "It crushed my performance. I had to take another viagra.

Sin City contract girl Korina is a happy goofy Finn from Helsinki, about 30 years old, with skinny legs and big fake breasts and a charming manner.

Luke: "Are most of your fellow photographers in straight porn straight or gay?"

Eric: "All the ones I know are straight. Whenever they have to a gay shoot, it's torture. Yes, I saw your reaction."

Luke: "Your favorite girls to shoot?"

Eric: "Avi Scott. She was going to be the first contract girl for Larry Flynt after Sunset Thomas but the contract Larry Flynt proposed was a piece of sh--. She could definitely wipe her ass with that contract. Good for her."

Duc to Bud Lee: "What's Buck Adams doing these days?"

Bud: "He runs a painting and construction crew for his dentist."

Bud was shooting on October 10, 2002 a script by David Aaron Clark, Dreamgirls. It was 20 years to the day that he did his first sex scene ever - for director Bob Chinn.

Bud: "Bob Chinn stopped by the set to take a survey of the place. I stopped him and said, 'Bob, guess what happened 20 years ago today?' He said, 'We were shooting you in your first scene.' I said, 'It was 22 years ago that I married Hyapatia.' He said, 'No, it wasn't. It was the eleventh [correct!]. No wonder you got divorced. You couldn't even remember what date you were married.'"

Korina does double penetration today for the first time in her life with Pat Myne and John West. During a break in the scene, John checks for messages on his cell phone. Korina laughingly reprimands him.

After the scene, I meet her walking unsteadily from the truck, where the scene took place, to the house and shower.

Korina: "I'm a little out of breath. I love challenge in my life. I loved it. I told them to bring it on. It didn't hurt."

Luke: "Why did you choose to make today your first time?"

Korina giggles: "I didn't really choose. I told a bunch of people that I'd like to do my first DP soon. They chose it for me. Bud told me it was a boy-girl. Michael comes to me and tells me it's two guys and a girl. I'm not going to turn it down."

Luke: "Do you think Michael Raven was trying to take advantage of your innocence?"

Korina giggles: "He knows I never say no. I'm a nice girl but nasty."

Luke: "How would you husband feel if he were sitting here and watching?"

Korina: "He'd love it. I'll tell him when I get home. Maybe we'll try it with a friend."

Luke: "How about with a four-legged animal?"

Korina: "What does that mean? A four legged animal? I'll do anything but a four-legged animal. I'm an animal rights activist."

Luke: "What's your character in this movie?"

Korina: "I haven't even read the script. I'm a surfer girl.

"Jason, did it look good? Did my asshole look good on film?"

Jason: "I need to test it first..."

John West and Pat Myne eat a lunch of meat and beans.

I shadow Jason as he interviews Alexis, a 23-year old blonde who will work with Maya Divine's hubby Eric. Alexis doesn't like interviews and she doesn't say much. She's from Pennsylvania. She did two scenes last year and then jumped into the industry fulltime in the summer of 2002. Her agent is Roy Garcia. She gives a squeal. "There were a couple of times I was ready to leave but..."

Alexis: "I don't do anal or gangbangs or DP. I tried anal once and I didn't like it."

Jason: "What do you do in your free time?"

Alexis: "I'm always on the computer and I hang out with friends."

Fourth Day on Michael Raven Set

There's no more invigorating way to start the day then with a good tour of the Museum of Tolerance.

It was just as I pushed my way through the door marked "bigotry" that I realized that I was guilty of the greatest bigotry towards one fine production company - Sin City.

Why must I wait to be reprimanded before pulling in my reportage? Why am I driven to alienate myself from my closest friends? Why do I feel the need to befriend and then betray every one I meet? Why must I fill my column with tawdry gossip when Sin City has put together the finest in electronic equipment to capture the hardest hardcore in the most graphic detail?

Why do I always think of myself and not of others? How come I am so lacking in empathy? People talk to me as a friend and then I betray their most intimate secrets in my column? What kind of mentch am I? Do people always have to tell me "off the record" otherwise I will print their most mundane musing?

Am I contributing to a safe environment on Sin City sets or am detracting from it? Am I a friend to the porn industry or a foe?

Oh woe am I. I am a wicked white man. I remember the news media reports a couple of weeks ago that surely the Washington D.C. sniper was a white man. We are such a wicked race.

Why do I insist on mixing racial issues with religious ones on a porn site? Oh, I am such an embarrassment to my sponsors, my parents, my friends and my religious community?

Oh, why oh why, did I skimp on my mood stabilizer before driving to Malibu Monday and lacing into this fine Michael Raven production?

Thursday morning, 10/24/02, I drove 35 miles north of Malibu, several miles north of the Ventura County line to a not-so-secluded beach for the fourth day of Michael Raven's two-movie five-day extravaganza. I had no clue about the thoughtlessness of my reportage on Monday's production. Why do I always wait for other people to let me know when I've crossed the line? What about my own sense of propriety and fair play? Of journalistic ethics? Oh, how low I have fallen.

I think most of my problem is that I've spent too much time around director James DiGiorgio. And that green-eyed monster of jealousy that has overtaken him with regard to Michael Raven has infected me to.

Contrary to wild rumors whipping around the industry, Raven is not an atheist. He is simply unsure of G-d's existence.

Who's bright idea was it to shoot a surfing movie in freezing October? Must be the Sin City braintrust. The girls are shivering most of the day trying to look happy and sunny. Don't worry. The special effects in the editing room will make everything right.

The permit to shoot on the beach costs $750.

As I walk, a crew member, a Puerto Rican who looks like a white guy, yells at me that he and the rest of the crew are not convicts. How could he ever think that I thought they were? Well, apparently, about 18 months ago, I said this man's brother looked like a murderer and the rest of the crew looked like they'd just gotten out of prison. It's hard to believe how carelessly cruel and unChristian I can be. I apologize for dealing in stereotypes.

Crew members set up a big screen on the beach so that nobody driving by can see anything they shouldn't. Still, numerous people, mainly men, stop by the parking lot by the cliff, overlooking the beach, throughout the day to look. Bud Lee and company chase them away.

An older couple in their 50s walk up and ask Bud what's going on. Bud says they're shooting a movie. The couple spot a naked Korina posing on the rocks. "Pornography," says the woman.

Eric, the French photographer: "Duc never exactly writes what we tell him. It always has something to do with it."

Luke: "Did I misquote you?"

Eric: "Our conversation [Eric's with Korina]."

Korina doesn't agree. "It was true. We were kidding. The audience doesn't think we were kidding when we said that we just go to bed like that. We were exaggerating to stress the point.

"You can't even try to figure this guy [Eric]. You can never figure the French out."

Korina complains that my pictures of her aren't good and a couple made her look fat, which she isn't.

Korina to Eric: "Were my pictures good?"

He snapped a bunch of her against the rocks.

Eric, a typically blunt Frenchman: "The best ones are in the beginning then you lose it."

Luke: "I wouldn't take that from him."

Korina: "That's so mean."

Luke: "He just wants to make you vulnerable so he can manipulate you."

Eric: "Exactly."

Luke: "I have to grab the most interesting parts of what you say and forget about the rest."

Korina: "Exactly."

I worry that Korina, who is nice, will become less nice the longer she's in the industry. She says not to worry. She's grounded by her relationship to her man, to her farm and to her animals. She's had such a tough time in America the past five years, with visa problems and work problems. She's grateful to have a contract with Sin City.

Korina's parents had a hard time accepting that their daughter had become a porn star. Her mother wanted her to return to Finland. After a week, they came to accept it.

Korina: "You should treat people as you would like to be treated. I don't want to bring up the Bible..."

Eric: "You should treat a bitch how she expects to be treated."

Luke: "He's trying to make a move on you."

Korina: "No, he's playing his French charm. I understand his tricks."

Luke: "Eric, is the reason you smoke so many cigarettes a way to sublimate a desire to have something else in your mouth?"

Eric, 41 years old: "No. I've been smoking for 26 years and I can still run four miles."

Korina says Finland is the most Americanized country in Europe.

XXX: "We don't want you to put more quotes on your site. We want you to take more quotes off."

Asia's story of her life was heartbreaking. I asked intrusive questions and I made her cry. Bud had to ask me to leave. I could've stayed there all night talking to Asia.

I had a great interview that night with Bud Lee also. He's also photogenic and amiable.

I think Asia has made a more powerful impression on me than anyone else I've met in the industry... I so want good things for her and to protect you from the filth of this industry. I want for her healing and normality, marriage and children...and all that... Yet I just want to photograph her all day... I think we exchanged 15 words all day today but I could've gone on taking photos of her forever... I must've snapped over 100 pics of you... I love Asia and Bud. They're good people.

Asia Carrera writes: "Thanks for the kind words about me in your posting today. It helped make up for what was a very long, grueling, and freakin' COLD-ass day!! The one thing that irked me was that you actually managed to update your site before I did, but then again, you got to leave the set a heckuva lot earlier than i did, too! (I came straight home and updated my bulletins page, and I was amazed when I got an email from a fan reporting your words about today already. But I guess what's really scary is that there are people who notice five minutes after both you and I have made an update."

Asia writes on Asiacarrera.com, the number one rated porn star site: "It is WAY too cold to be shooting on the beach in Malibu this time of year, especially IN the water!! But the guys at Sin City were bound and determined to shoot a porno takeoff of the surfer girl movie "Blue Crush" for their CES show release, and I guess I was the only sucker gullible enough to agree to be their star. LOL!! (in my defense, I accepted the gig BEFORE they told me what the movie was about - very sneaky of them to spring that surprise on me afterwards, eh?) Of course the sky was completely overcast as I drove to work today, and I was secretly hoping we'd get rained out..."

Thursday morning, 10/24/02, Michael Raven gets Asia a surfboard. She has no experience with surfing and feels more comfortable in front of a computer. She has a water-proof laptop.

Alexis does not say much.

You couldn't get any more amiable and chatty and smiley and giggly than girly girl Korina, Sin City contract babe. You couldn't get any smarter than spelling bee champ Asia Carrera.

Jason says the girls in their wetsuits look like they're in chastity suits.

Asia says they look the shar-pei dogs. I ask her to spell "shar-pei" for me. She once won a spelling bee.

Michael Raven says that once they're done with the editing, everyone will look sunny and happy, bathed in beautiful colors. The girls sit shivering by their surfboards. "Have happy surfing thoughts," instructs Michael.

As I repeat his words into my tape recorder, Michael says: "You're killing me, man."

Korina has never had sex on a beach but Alexis did in Florida in her personal life.

"I'm such a girly girl, such a prissy girl," says Natasha, as she smooths out the sand for her towel. Natasha and Alexis are natural breasted.

Michael instructs cameraman Jake Jacobs to focus on the butts, faces and tits, as the girls lie out in their bikinis.

Do you guys know anything about Steve Jones, founder and president of Lightspeed Media aka Lightspeed University? He apparently gets most reverential treatment from the porn media.

Steve got into another fight with Max Hardcore at the AWE show this weekend and had to be restrained, and Kaiser kicked Max Hardcore out of the show... Steve and Max almost got into a physical fight in Florida at the AVN convention. I don't know why they hate each other.

Are there URL's for child porn sites which have Lightspeed banners on them?

Also, what is the definition of child porn? There are a lot of sites out there which feature teen models under 18, non-nude, but suggestive type stuff, bikini's etc . I could see these types of sites sending traffic to Lightspeed sites. Lightspeed is actually mostly softcore content, so it's hard to believe a company that has made its success with softcore porn in an industry which is full of some really hardcore content being associated with the lowest forms of life attached to this biz.
