Metro Home Video Crumbles

Angry porn talent are descending today on broke Metro Home Video, which did over $30 million worth of business last year, demanding to be paid for their dozens of sex scenes in Mexico. Some performers did 10-15 scenes three weeks ago, and are owed thousands of dollars. But Metro hasn't been paying people, as is their custom, smug in their self-assurance as a Mafia company that they can get away with murder.

"A lot of people are having trouble getting paid by Metro from that Mexico trip," a source told Luke Monday. "Talent are screaming. It was supposed to be seven days, then ten days, now it's 18 days... They keep putting everybody off. Surprise!"

Luke has long warned porners to avoid Metro. But talent said, oh no, it will be great. We'll get to go to Mexico. Yeah, go to those third world countries and shoot porno and see what happens when they throw your ass in jail.

Meanwhile, Metro's stock (MGMA) hasn't traded for two months on NASDAQ and to the best of my knowledge, no one who has ever been delisted that long has ever again returned to trading. Metro is toast. That chapter is over.

Porner: "Nobody ever knows in this business. You can be on top and have no cash flow, or you can be on the brink of extinction and some owner decides to throw in a chunk of dough to keep rolling....like betting on the come, or cum. All I know is that they make good s---. The features are great, their catalogue drops are fresh and well priced, and they are super easy to deal with. Like you even care about that....you wanna hear about bodies in the dumpster behind the warehouse."

Another weary porner told Luke: "I guess it's like this anywhere in the world where money is involved. It seems like the people in this business are the worse people on earth. With their morality and the way they do everything. I'm tired of not being able to trust anybody. It's a hard way to live when you can't believe anything that anybody says to you. It's become distasteful to me to go through my life everyday thinking that everybody is lying to me.

"I don't want to be a part of this anymore and if I stay in it, I am them. As long as I am around it I am them, I am just as big a scumbag as anyone else.

"Metro is typical of the porn mentality. Nobody will know, let's f--- around with this. Everybody's stupid but us. But you don't f--- with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). They'll be right up your ass every time.

"Yeah, you'll probably make less money outside the business. But what is peace of mind worth. Self respect? Not having to do a lame-assed f---ed up job with a bunch of idiots... Porno makes you feel that everything you do is for nothing. That it is not even valid. I'm a foreign guy in this business. I don't belong around these people. It's tough for me to live like a scumbag."

Speaking of bad jokes, Matt Zane won Best Director: World at the Venus Erotic Fair in Berlin, supposedly the world's biggest porn film festival.

Kris Kramski

Sin City shooter Kris Kramski has just released "Chloe: A Day At The Beach," which features a controversial scene where a doctor uses drugs to sedate and seduce a patient. Kris says that Sin City balked at the scene. Mainstream porno companies generally avoid scenes on non-consensual intercourse.

Kris says Sin City has yet to develop a distribution deal for his documentary "Porno" aka "Beautiful Models." Sin City, says Kris, is not happy with the way the film portrays porners as frequently moronic.

Kramski's next project will be a porno version of Belle de Jour, the famous 1967 film starring Catherine Deneuve, directed Luis Bunuel, and based on the novel by Joseph Kessel. It's about a rich woman who works as a prostitute during the afternoon.

Writes Maitland McDonagh: "Despite the New York Daily News review headlined 'Belle De Jour' Sordid Porno, Delle de Jour isn't pornographic, but it is genuinely, if coolly, erotic - a seductive labyrinth of dreams and fantasies linked by the icy presence of Catherine Deneuve."

L-patin Says AVN Promotes Racism, Misogyny and Stupidity

Lynne L-patin, the producer of the all black adult video "INDIGO MOODS," would like to know if the "powers that be" over at Adult Video News are racist, misogynistic, stupid or all of the above.

"Either they completely ignored my movie because they're afraid that they'll be punished by their regular black entertainment advertising customers, or they are racist, or both," L-patin said, reflecting upon the October 1999 AVN review of "Indigo Moods."

"Or perhaps they're just so ignorant that they didn't notice that this is the first porn video on the market in many years which treats blacks with dignity and respect."

"Indigo Moods," which was released on videocassette by major mail order company Adam & Eve and broadcast on Spice Channel during September, was L-patin's deceased husband's last project before he died of prostate cancer in July, 1999. "Indigo Moods" was good enough for a premiere mail order house, for television and for a three year contract with a cable agent, but AVN refers to it in a one line review as "solid sex wasted by lackluster production values and direction," L-patin complained.

"In a market with little enough black product of any kind, AVN declines to mention that "Indigo Moods" is an all-black production, let alone one that is suitable for black couples. And I don't see how the first movie with all ethnic performers to play on the Spice Channel could be 'lackluster' and worthy of only a two line review."

L-patin attempted to get AVN to re-consider the review, but was unable to get a response from managing editor Bryn Prior. "I don't know if this is plain vanilla racism, in that AVN only approves of black videos which please whites with sick fantasies who need to see blacks humiliated, or if it is reverse racism in that, because my husband and I are white, we should not be permitted to produce pornography featuring black performers.

"However, knowing that AVN reviewers dislike any adult videos which posit sex as an enjoyable heterosexual experience, I'm inclined to think that their ignorance as to how special this movie truly is is just that -- ignorance.

"My assumption is that "lackluster production" refers to the lack of anal sex in the movie, as neither Bruce nor I ever had any interest in documenting unwanted anal sex."

"After working for Heatwave Entertainment, where we were not allowed to move into production as had been agreed upon when we accepted jobs there, Bruce and I knew the current state of black adult entertainment very well. Pimps and "ho's" and gangstas. Bruce's radiation oncologist, who happened to be black, knew we were pornographers and asked us for a video. We couldn't find one which wouldn't have been insulting to him so, over the objections of our partner (who really wanted to make movies with white people), we made "Indigo Moods." "Indigo Moods" happens to be the very first all ethnic movie to be broadcast on the Spice Channel, so I doubt it is really 'lackluster' in any way. In fact, everyone I've shown it to has really enjoyed it, especially women," said L-patin.

"The women I show my movies tell me that they've never seen any other adult productions which they enjoy watching, but the opinions of real consumers obviously have no relationship to those expressed by AVN."

L-patin adds that, despite her anger, she can understand how "Indigo Moods" came to be so poorly reviewed in AVN.

"You have to remember that most of the people working for Adult Video News are very unhappy with their own sexuality. Normal heterosexual behavior really disturbs those folks. Their idea of sex is extremely limited -- they hate vaginas. Only women who appear very asexual and who endure painful anal sex for money appeal to them. All blacks are "Freaks, Ho's and jungle bunnies." They can't imagine a marketplace which includes sexually active men and women with self esteem, let alone blacks with dignity.

"Just thinking about a normal, middle class black woman enjoying vaginal sex is totally beyond their comprehension," said a bitter L-patin.

"These Adult Video News people have problems with women in general, let alone black women. They truly believe that black couples are not entitled to good sexual relationships, and that roles for black people in pornography should be limited to Mandingos, clowns, whores and other stereotypes for the white consumers.

"My husband's goal was to get "Indigo Moods" out to a black audience which included women and couples. The review in the October issue of AVN ensures that the movie will be completely ignored by those retailers which have a black clientele.

"Of course, given their pattern of deliberately ignoring those movies produced by my husband and myself, I can only speculate as to whether AVN feels it is important to deny blacks adult videos which treat them with respect, or if this is just some sort of personal slight based on my husband's refusal to blow Gene Ross. "Or maybe AVN is too intimidated by their regular advertisers to give my movie a fair viewing..."

L-patin and her deceased husband, Bruce Walker, produced one movie in 1998 for regular AVN advertiser Video Team. It was called "Tales of the South Side," and was based on the classic 1940's "Amos & Andy" radio show concept of an all-black community in which everyone, from judge to cabdriver, is black.

"At the time, Chris Mann was so worried about whose "side" we were taking, Rob Spallone and Star World or World Modeling and Jim South, that he deliberately destroyed our movie in editing because we'd shot it at the Raymer Street studio.

"My husband was a defendant along with Rob's father, Joe Spallone, and Howard Wasserman and the recently deceased Paul Wisner in a federal obscenity case prosecuted in 1992," explained L-patin. "When Rob offered us credit at the studio, it never occurred to us to refuse it. My husband didn't roll over to the federal government when they asked him to testify against Wasserman, Wisner and Spallone. We certainly weren't going to roll against the Spallones on account of Chris Mann and Video Team. And Jim South, whom I've known for ages, appreciates that -- he knows I won't roll against him, either.

"Bruce and I shared a love of African-American culture. In fact, it was the posters hanging in his office advertising soul music concerts from the seventies that encouraged me to first date him. We always agreed that blacks never received the recognition they were due for their contributions to American culture, and wanted this movie to be a special gift of love and respect to people of color. Bruce would be upset if he knew that Adult Video News chose to dismiss his labor of love as "lackluster," but he would be horrified to know that AVN deliberately refused to identify the movie as a black video, let alone one suitable for both men and women.

"If I were to evaluate my twenty-five year career in porn by Adult Video News' coverage of my work, I'd feel like a real failure, but considering what I know about AVN, it's probably good that they ignore my work, since they've done more to destroy the adult business than anyone since Ed Meese and the Justice Department. When pleasing AVN became more important than making product which people bought, video sales dropped dramatically. The people who run that magazine are really in the minority, since most heterosexual men want to sink their dicks in pussy, not pseudo-homo assholes."

Rodger Jacobs writes: "Luke: When Lynne L-patin dismisses the "current state of black entertainment (in porn)" as profiling characters that are "pimps, gangasters and ho's" and accuses AVN of looking down on videos that do not portray people of color as "Mandingos, clowns, whores, and other stereotypes for white consumers" she displays just how sorely out of touch she is. Videoteam's Afro-Centric series has been going strong for many years now, and quite a few of the titles are carried by Adam & Eve, as well as making a stong showing on the Playboy Channel. For the most part these are lush and beautifully produced videos that never bow to sterotype or cliche in their portrayl of African-Americans as sexual beings. To strut around like a demented peacock, crowing to anyone who will listen that "Indigo Moods" is the greatest sex video to happen to black culture in many years, is to demonstrate an ignorance and a pomposity that is simply hard to swallow."

Lynne L-patin responds: Sometimes people forget that I worked for Video Team's umbrella company, CPLC Distributors, way back when Chris Mann began Afro Centric Productions. I remember My Baby Got Back #1, Dominique Simone and some of the other good stuff from those days. Another company which does a lot of black product, Heatwave Entertainment, got its start when Gabor purchased the movie "Black Jack City" from Video Team. VT decided that the movie was a little too violent to release following their legal troubles in Dallas, Heatwave got a great deal, and the movie itself is pretty good.

Video Team is just one company on the market that makes black adult videos, and my husband, Bruce, sold their tapes for many years. We even watched a few before we shot "South Side." We thought we could do a better job at making videos for consumption by blacks, especially women and couples. We wanted to give it a try. If the movie had been edited by someone with a feel for comic timing, it might have been okay, but cutting it with a heavy-handed machete didn't work very well.

I'm very happy that, despite our personal differences, Chris Mann is running a successful business, because I'm not a vindictive sort of person. I'm sure some of his movies are great, and some of them, to be polite, are not. There is plenty of room for other auteurs and their viewpoints in an open marketplace. Chris has his, I have mine, the customers have a choice, and everybody is happy.

But as to the state of black adult video, I'd like to quote from the October issue of Adult Video News, page 148, in the review of Sin City's "Black Diamond," "...the storyline, which features the usual mix of nasty pimps and crooked coppers..."

My point is that black adult video has become "the usual mix." Bruce and I wanted to do something different -- we wanted to show loving couples of color having non-exploitative sex. I think we succeeded.

Curiously enough, the same reviewer who gave an "AAAA" rating to Sin City's tale of a streetwalker and the troubles she has with "the usual mix" also reviewed "Indigo Moods." This AVN reviewer likes black product with streetwalkers, pimps and cops. I would never want to make such a movie. I'm avoiding "the usual mix." This reviewer does not care for videos of romantic black men making love to their girlfriends and wives. Obviously someone else should have reviewed my movie, which I tried hard to arrange with Adult Video News to no avail.

If Mr. Jacobs wants to continue speaking about me in this vein, he'll find himself in court with a slander suit, since promotion of one's own product does not make one ignorant, pompous or demented.

Because we know that Luke doesn't edit much of his material, I would never blame Luke for publishing the hurtful things someone else seems to feel the need to say. In fact, I'm sure Luke F-rd would be the first to testify that I am neither ignorant, pompous nor demented, nor do I strut or crow. And that's why, when I do say something, smart people listen. Both of them.

Porner Rodney Moore adds: "Meanwhile, the AVN gives an EDITOR's CHOICE to ROUGH SEX, just when I had finally stopped my stock sarcastic criticism of the AVN reviewers by saying that the only way to get awards and Editors Choices in the AVN is to slap girls around and stick their heads in toilets. Now they've proven me right. One screening of ROUGH SEX negates all the good things you mentioned in your letter to an impartial bystander. AND AVN GLORIFIES THIS MOVIE!! Their heads are up their ass.

Salon.com Tackles Gonzo

Washington Post Business reporter David Segal profiles John Stagliano and his gonzo revolution at Salon.com.

Things that caught my attention:

That a Washington Post Business reporter can get away with writing on porn.

Segal appears to have correctly captured the dynamics of the porn business.

Stagliano's Evil Angel production company grosses about $7 million annually, $1 million of which John pockets in take-home pay. He employs 23 people in a 12,000-square-foot office. By contrast, VCA does about $20 million a year, Metro about $35 million a year, and Vivid and Leisure Time over $40 million. VCA has about 100 employees and Vivid 175.

Segal gently skewer's Stagliano's pomposity. The guy imagines he's a filmmaker. His office is filled with Adult Video News plaques. "They never give me the award for editing," Stagliano says, bitterly eyeing the plaques as he offers Segal a seat. "They don't understand editing."

Porner: "Had to laugh at the comment from John about editing. HE is the one who doesn't know editing.

"The problem with John's editing is that he keeps every single "good" shot. Interpretations of "good" vary, obviously, but the point of editing is to create an image that is clear, well-paced, and presents the subject completely and coherently. Unfortunately sometimes that means leaving "good" shots behind. It's great if you can get more good footage than you ever needed, but that doesn't mean to have to use it all. Or should."

A chronic pursuer of sex, Stagliano is also chronically grumpy and seemingly unhappy.

David writes: "Throughout our three-hour chat, he veers between sullen introspection and a twinkly eyed mischievousness, a few parts brooding filmmaker, a few parts frat boy. He takes himself very seriously given the product he peddles."

Segal is the first writer I'm aware of, aside from myself, who pointed out how many actresses in the biz were aghast that John had not previously revealed his bisexuality. Male-to-male anal sex is unhealthy, disease-prone and puts your partners at risk.

David writes that Vivid shoots about 30 shot-on-film features a year, with individual budgets extending to $150,000. Vivid girls earn about $100,000 a year. The economics of gonzo have forced Vivid and VCA to develop their own gonzo lines.

Segal writes: "Judging by "Seven Deadly Sins," a summer release, the silicone-to-talent ratio of Vivid's posse is way, way off and the sex scenes too often veer toward the cruel. At one point an actor named Jon Dough sits on a chair, looks bored and slaps at a woman's breasts.

"Through much of the '80s, a house like Vivid could expect to sell close to 30,000 copies of a new release at $20 apiece. With the Gonzo invasion, a blockbuster moves just 13,000 pieces at about $12 a copy."

Segal describes Vivid's shadey internet operation which charged folks like me $50 a month for service we never ordered. Vivid seems to have copied IEG's fraudulent ways. Vivid aka Vivtech charges $50 a month for unlimited access to film clips, still photos and about 60 interactive channels, a lousy deal compared to www.cybererotica.com which is cheaper and has more content.

"There's total price elasticity to this business," gushes David Schlesinger, the hopped-up 26-year-old who runs the department. "I started off charging $12 a month, now it's $49.95, but I want to go to $100 soon. The price doesn't matter. Men sign up, regardless of the price, stay for three or four months, then leave."

Adam Glasser aka Seymore Butts' production company Seymore Inc. releases about 36 videos a year. Most of them are shot for less than $15,000, each of them grossing more than 10 times that sum, writes Segal. Glasser employs 12 people, including his mother, who serves as the company bookkeeper.

Glasser drives a Jaguar and lives in a five-bedroom house in Brentwood. Alisha Klass pads around in a silk nightgown looking after Adam's five year old son on the morning of Segal's interview.

David Segal writes Luke: "I read your section on Jews in porn, which I found riveting, not to mention remarkably encyclopedic. I'm afraid I can't add any original insights to the discussion there. My sense is that Jews are disproportionately represented in just about every money-making, entertainment-oriented enterprise and porn is simply no exception. Don't forget that the Jews built Hollywood, ran all the major studios and were the brains and financial muscle behind just about every great film made before 1960. (Take at look at "An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood" by the superb Neal Gabler.) I'm not saying that Steve Hirsch is simply a latter-day, lower rent version of David O. Selznick, but both of these gents are businessmen making a buck by filming and then peddling fantasies to the masses. In addition, Judaism never stigmatized sex the way it is in some forms of Christianity."

Louie writes: "Hey Luke- LOVED your article about Jews in porn, you're pursuing a sociological issue from a thoughtful and intelligent perspective. The marginalization of Jews through both subtle and overt anti-semitism is a clear connection to the subsequent discovery of Jewish influence (disproportionate to pop.) in marginalized and revolutionary fields. Well, there are a lot of Jewish people in Hollywood, but the two biggest powerholders are Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner. So I think not. It's convenient for the bulls--- sociology investigator to find what they "want" to see, ie: Jews in hollywood in power, and overlook what they don't want to see. It's the rocharch test of racism. Hold up any area of society disproportionally filled with a minorty, see if people react to only those examples matching their generalization."

Valenzuela admitted to being a prostitute, an openly HIV-positive porn star, and a man who enjoyed - and demanded - bareback sex. The event degenerated into a shouting match and fights almost broke out among the participants.

Valenzuela, who had been an activist in his native San Diego for 3 years, was ostracized from the gay community and his life threatened. Valenzuela, who says his HIV-positive lover accidentally infected him, now has a growing escort business and a new porn film, "Something About Larry," coming out. Valenzuela's interview is one of the must-reads about barebacking, the spirituality of anal sex, intimacy, and finding one's self in the midst of an epidemic. "I wanted to get rid of shame by being vocal about the things that so many positive men do silently. I certainly wasn't out to encourage anyone not to use condoms," Valenzuela says. Valenzuela also reveals that the gay porn industry was NOT receptive to his coming out positive. He says that All Worlds Video attempted to drop him when they discovered he had HIV, and he had to fight them to honor his contract. (As if half the performers in gay porn aren't already positive.) The studio gave in, and according to Valenzuela gave him a "hokey" script with an HIV angle. "The project was from start to finish a compromise. I tired to rewrite the script several times, but I finally just gave in. It's called "Positively Yours." It wasn't any good."

Valenzuela finds that the gay community has become less hostile to him, but it's still cautious. And he describes his work as "HIV anarchy" - "It means finding yourself beyond the established rules, and having to make up your own."

Porno 101

Will Jarvis aka Taliesin writes on RAME: An article appeared recently in the Las Vegas Review Journal about Pornography Awareness Week. The purpose of this special week of the year is to promote awareness of the "dangers" of porn. The sponsors of this campaign are WRAP (White Ribbon Against Pornography) and Morality in Media.

I wrote the following response to that article as a Letter to the Editor of the LV Review Journal and thought I share...:

Pornography Awareness Week? Splendid idea. As a pornographer how could I not be in favor of a campaign to raise awareness of my beloved industry? For the past fifteen years I have made a good living as a writer, producer, director and performer in adult movies. And, what serendipity abounds, as next week there is a wonderful book on porn scheduled to be published by Prometheus Books. “Porn 101: Eroticism, Pornography and the first Amendment”, which I was a co-editor of, and a contributing author to, is based on the World Pornography Conference, a major academic event held last year. Gosh, with all the hubbub the anti-porn groups are making these days, I'm sure we'll sell lots of copies of the book.

Enough of tongue-in-cheek. Seriously, pornography cannot be what its detractors claim. Tens of millions of men and women use pornography to enhance their sex lives and their relationships, release tension and stress and utilize porn's fantasy elements to help them cope with the drudgery of daily life. As I have stated before: “Pornography is a presentation of sex for the purposes of entertainment, education and edification”. That's all it is. Can porn be misused? Sure. And it is this misuse that we should rally against. But the majority of porn is healthy, sex positive, life affirming. It is a celebration of sex, the most life affirming act there is. Tell me, please, how the giving and receiving of pleasure presented for the enjoyment of an audience can be harmful? If done properly, it cannot.

Porn stars take their status as celebrities seriously. In addition to their contributions to various “how to” books and videos for the enhancement of sexual pleasure and enjoyment, they use their celebrity status to help others in non-sexual ways. A recent example would be the August 29th “Curveball ’99” charity softball game in which porn stars raised over $14,000.00 for Self Awareness for Disabled Americans. The porn industry has championed the cause of Free Speech and the First Amendment, the very cornerstone of the principles that guide this nation. Additionally we have strengthened laws regarding child pornography and helped Federal prosecutors in cases against child porn merchants. We do good work. It would be nice to be recognized for the good work we do. So by all means let us raise awareness of the positive power of porn.

"Porn 101: Eroticism, Pornography and the First Amendment" is a collection of papers that were presented at the World Pornography Conference that I organized last year. Some of you may remember this history making event. It was an incredible conference and I hope that the book captures the spirit of the conference. The introduction is by Nadine Strossen, president of the ACLU and there are papers by various attendees of the conference as well as transcripts of various talks that were given. Many porn stars contributed to the conference and the book including Annie Sprinkle, Candida Royalle, Nina Hartley, Juli Ashton, XXX, Dave Cummings, Gloria Leonard, Ron Jeremy, Vanessa Del Rio and others. Take a moment and read the spew about different players in our industry and the posts taken from the NetPond board etc. An ugly portrait no doubt. What are your thoughts after reading the last few days of journalism over at his site?

Darren Blatt: I think it`s entertaining in a messed up way. It seems that when people within our own industry start pissing with each other, no one really says much. But when an outsider starts pissing with us everyone gets scared and punked out. The way I see it is if you keep your nose clean, what the hell should you worry about? From what I`ve seen of Luke, he gets a lead on a story then follows up by asking industry insiders. He usually targets the negative stories to help expose scum bags. The problem is that he might have a lead on a credible person and hurt their reputation. It`s always a scary thing when people start pissing away on the boards. My take is that as a community we can post back about how we feel. If you don`t like what`s being said, then post.

Obnoxious Bitch writes: Personal opinion: he`s a media whore with some serious psychosexual issues. The first part I can respect, the second he should seek treatment for.

Lee Noga: Yes D$, Luke does what we call sensationalizing reporting but actually he does not hurt those he names, he actually draws more attention to them and you can believe it has only helped those named in a profitable way. Controversy sells! Scandal captures attention, a deviation from norm creates a cult following to know more. The person named in the story then becomes a predator, and before you know it the person talked about has recruited those that were intriqued, and ones army has grown 10 fold.

Case and point, in the major newspaper in Orlando, the editor allowed readers to write in about stories in the paper. After a story ran on me wanting a "lion" share of the adult industry in 1994, the editor published 4 negative runs on me. One that stands out was a woman blamed me for Ted Bundy being a serial killer...personally. She made this association because Bundy stated he was deranged due to exposure of pornography at a younger age. So Noga was grooming the path for the next "Bundy".... Let me say our sales skyrockted, you would I have thought the heat was gonna come down on me, instead the flood of calls were of interest, investment firms etc. All good, all profitable. All Luke did was give those named more power...he hurt nothing :)

Now if the Feds read it, its all hearsay. Ya get noticed when ppl blackball you, this is how Serge got his roots in the old days, everytime he pissed, his business went up in $$$$. Its all "good" attention in a way marketing dollars cannot buy :)

Kimmykim: How anyone with such a pathetic need for attention no matter what drivel they have to spout out to get it should be considered good for anything other than mopping the floors in the institution they ought to be housed in is beyond me - if there were any redeeming humor or insight it would be a different story - especially if his silly stories made any sense. My 8 year old could do a better job - I see absolutely no correlation between the Orlando newspapers and this laughable loser...his money would be better spent on a decent therapist than paying for the associated costs of running his site, imo.

Fay Sharp: The quote often used is "any press is good press." Well, I am a little spoiled because I have had so much press and 98% has been good press. Maybe the adage is right? maybe it isn`t. I think it should be be considered on each merit. Timing is EVERYTHING. Sometimes you can have unfavorable press and it doesn`t mean anything..... other times because of the timing, it can cause real headaches.

Luke delving into the awards had it`s good side and it`s bad side. As far as I was concerned the incident was unfortunate & best forgotten. However, it comes at a time when I am having to make a decision whether or not to go forward with the Peoples Choice Awards or let them die. The awards were done for "fun" and to help promote our first show. However, they seem to be now taken so seriously that maybe they hurt the show, instead of help it, when you alienate a major player. (feedback appreciated) Before this incident, I think the credability was a given and not a factor. However, on a personal level it was fine. I had never commented publically about the incident - it was so ridiculous that I didn`t think it necessary. However, since comments were made, it gave me the opportunity to respond and maybe say a thing or two that I had wanted to say for a long time.

So - is any press - good press? Still have mixed feelings. But, I do feel that some of the inuendo about some of the more serious matters he has been covering is a little dangerous. But, I got my sense of humor back right away, when I viewed the pics and realized that he thought JB was JoeE and JoeE was RB and it got funnier by the moment. If the occaison ever arises, I doubt he will ever make the mistake again of who JoeE is. hehe.

Lee Noga: Fay if you want my opinion I would drop the awards. Luke F-rd`s article kinda left the opinion, "Those that send the most traffic, wins"...its not a peoples choice. Bottom line, the webmaster basically purchases their own award based on the power of their traffic. There will never be any real surprises in the future. It was a great ice breaker, but ya don`t need it now that the thunder has been stolen. Now, a nice sit down dinner like you had with entertainment might be a nice thing....a community dinner, poke fun at the webmasters, maybe do some roasting awards, so the fun is perserved, and the politics don`t exist & nobody gets their feelings hurt. Its all clean fun to rib people and right in front of their peers! Trophy stores and catalogs have so many awards that can be used for the "roasters".

JC: Luke F-rd has been commenting on the adult industry for quite a while, but has just recently gone after the adult internet. I find his columns entertaining and somewhat informative. There is a lot of good (and I believe accurate) insider info hidden amongst all the drivel and BS. I would like to see him organize the columns better so they are not such a confusing mix of outside quotes and LF comments... in any case it is admittedly difficult to separate the fact from fiction... but kind of fun trying..;-)

Eddie Wedelstedt Background Check

Luke ran a check of public records on porn's powerful man, Edward Joseph Wedelstedt of Goalie Entertainment. He's known in the porn industry as "Eddie W."

From the August 19, 1999 Rolling Stone article on Luke: "When the leaders of the top adult video and Internet companies gathered at a secretive conference in Cancun, Mexico, in the spring, Ford was a prime topic. The owner of a chain of adult stores [Edward Wedelstedt] was reportedly heard saying not only that Ford is a "menace to society" but "no one should worry about him anymore - Luke's going to end up as a spot on the pavement.""

Wedelstedt was born in April, 1942. He stands an imposing 6'2" and weighs 240 pounds. He's widely thought to have stolen Reuben Sturman's store empire in the late 1980s.

BrandyAlx1: So what makes you any better that Oliver44 posting Eddie's records. The civil offense is called public disclosure of private facts. You seem to have the same faulty interpretation of what "public record" really means, and what you're permitted to do with it.

According to public records listed below, Wedelstedt owes the IRS millions of dollars. Could some smart lawyer accountant type explain to me the significance of all the liens against Eddie W and his complicated holding structures?

Let us borrow a page or two from the infamous record of Marcus Wolf, the legendary spy-master of the late and unlamented German Democratic Republic (yes, he had some Jewish blood in him). But the pornstresses would certainly be a good nucleation tool for you to get the process going.

Luke I surfed over to your site through a gossip group. I liked your conflicts. I read your site and thought you would probably be interesting to know, I fell for your autobiography. I thought I had the same basic conflicts. I thought we could connect in that regard. And let us not forget, because I have the e-mails to prove it, how you were trying to seduce me and make me fall me fall for you when I first met you, for months.
