Ian Gittler's Pornstar Book
In the summer of 1992, Ian Gittler follows Madison to las Vegas. Madison enjoys being seen with a photographer "from outside the business" because it affirms her stardom. The tiny busty brunette constantly needs attention and bristles whenever her control is defied.

Hartley pushes Stagliano into sex, a "way of reminding John that she is still viable, still a good casting decision..." John doesn't want to reject her in front of an outsider.
July 11, 1994
Jamie Summers has moved to Fot Lauderdale with her boyfriend, who scouts strippers. She calls Gittler to tell him Savannah committed suicide.
It's been a year since Ian last interviewed her, at a party at Bar One on Sunset Blvd. "Savannah's face was puffy and blemished; beaten up from hard living. She'd gotten a second tit job, gone real big, and it made her look more like every other porn actress."
Gittler realized that most of the porn stars he knew "were f---ed up or f---ing up. Most had hinted at their revulsion with selling their bodies for a living... The heroin or booze or whatever they were using - even the sex itself - that was a symptom; they were numbing themselves."
Ian didn't want to ask them about their childhoods. The girls protected him by saying, "No, I wasn't abused." But Gittler guesses that all porn stars were sexually abused as children.
Sharon Mitchell told Ian that she had finally kicked heroin but her run down apartment building in the Valley was a discouraging mess.
Tom Byron tells Gittler that April Rayne aka Andrea Nashak died of a drug overdose. It turned out to not be true.
Ian visits Ron Sullivan who lives with Nikki Sinn. She had a breast implant go horribly wrong and until she visits her plastic surgeon in Palm Springs next month, her breasts are horribly out of balance.
"Everyone in this business has some kind of damaged psyche," says Sullivan. "No kid dreams of growing up and working in porn... But...the world of porn, is a place where a lot of damaged souls can coexist, prosper, and find some sense of community they weren't able to bring to their lives before." (p. 90)
Gittler is now finding that while previously all actresses had denied they were abused, now all say yes, they were abused.

Laurie Holmes Sues VCA, Bill Amerson
John Holmes' widow Laurie Holmes had legal papers served today on VCA Pictures and Bill Amerson for defamation of character.
Amerson and Holmes, perhaps the two persons closest to the legendary late porn star, have feuded for over 14 years. They despise each other. Amerson now works as a drug counselor and helped Sharon Mitchell start AIM, which Laurie Holmes passionately supports.
In the summer of 1998, Laurie released the abysmal book "Porn King," the supposed autobiography of John Holmes.
Laurie lives with HIV positive Tony Montana who's been pimping her out the past eight months. Aside from flippping tricks, she's recently reentered porno.
When Laurie first saw a rough cut of the documentary, she flipped while watching a scene when Amerson talks about her flipping tricks. Laurie said she would sue if that scene was retained in the documentary. It was and she did.
In the documentary Wadd, Amerson says: "Laurie was known as the buttf---ing queen of the porn industry... She said that she really wanted to meet John and that she wanted all of that in her ass... John was amused but didn't think it was going to happen. So off camera they did that and it did happen. She fell in love with John... He had no respect for her whatsoever.
"She was a hooker. While she was making a movie, during the breaks, she'd get dressed... She always dressed as a little girl because she knew that she could make more money from men if she looked younger. She'd go hitchhike around the blocks and turn tricks in the car and come back in time for the scene.
"John asked if she could move in and be his housekeeper and maid and do all those things. There were times in the summer when I would hear voices from the bedroom saying, 'Bill, Bill,' and John was out swimming in the pool. And she would be lying there naked in the bedroom, tied up, and John had had an orgasm all over her face and walked off. That's how much John loved her.
"John tried to run over her with the car twice in the driveway. She had insurance. He wanted to collect the insurance money.

Hampshire has banned all his employees from speaking to me.
I do not hold the least ill will towards Russ for these moves. He's been upfront and honest with me. We have not spoken since May, and only that once in the last nine months.
When Paul Fishbein flirted (December of 1998) with hiring me, he went to Hampshire and Hirsch for advice.
To give an idea of how delusional Laurie is, check out these sentences she wrote for "Porn King":
Laurie suspects that the US government gave John AIDS. "John and Bill went to Washington DC right around the time John would have contracted AIDS," she writes in Porn King. "It was also during the time that Edward Meese and his "Meese Commission" were on a crusade to shut down the porn industry. I remember hearing that Meese showed President Reagan some porn movies at the White House, one of which I was in. Then along came John and Bill and a few others to fight… John even met one of Reagen's Secret Service men. Could it be that John Holmes was injected or somehow given a strain of the AIDS virus? Maybe it was the United States Government, not God, making an example of John to underscore the "horror" of pornography."
In the VCA documentary Wadd, Laurie expresses no qualms about John having sex with people while knowing he was HIV positive, and not informing his partners. "He just figured that if they don't get it from me, or if they don't already have it, they're going to end up with it anyway," says Laurie. "He just figured that everybody in the business was going to die of AIDS anyway."
Amused in Modesto writes: "Hmmmm. So Laurie Holmes, the porn actress (a woman who performs sexual acts, for money, while on film), feels defamed because she was accused of being a hooker (a woman who performs sexual acts, for money, while not on film). I'm no legal scholar, but I think I know how Judge Judy would rule."
Porn Publisher Repents
TUPELO, MS (CHARISMA News Service) -- Former porn publisher-turned-preacher Steve Lane is trying to raise $50,000 so that he can buy back a small mountain of hard-core magazines.
He wants to pay off an investor so he can trash 30,000 copies of the triple-X publication he launched before becoming a Christian and walking away from a multimillion-dollar business.
"I'd like to destroy them on television," he said. "Maybe recycle them as stationery for my ministry."
That is Freedom Ministries, through which he speaks in churches and colleges across the country--where he is consistently alarmed at the number of Christians secretly addicted to pornography.
As Morality in Media (MIM) launched this week's WRAP--White Ribbon Against Pornography--campaign, Lane spoke of the "amazing" scale of the problem. "So many people are in bondage," he said. "The Internet has made it even more cancerous. It used to be that Christians would have to go through a little bit of trouble to get porn; they'd have to drive to another town or sneak it in. Now a pastor can sit in his office and view porn with one click."
A former local newspaper publisher, Lane got involved in the porn industry with his brother, Mike. They started with contact magazines, and then created their own hard-core publication that won a national distribution contract. They also operated Internet porn sites and more than 50 phone-sex lines.
Then one night early last year they chanced on evangelist James Robison's "Life Today" TV program. He was talking about how pornography could destroy a marriage, and his message touched their hearts. Within days they decided to walk away from the business--leaving the first shipment of their magazine gathering dust in a Florida storage unit.
They thought about declaring bankruptcy, but realized that the magazines would be viewed as assets. So to keep them out of others' hands, Lane is trying to find the money to buy out the brothers' other original investor. That way he and his brother can do what they like with the pages--which have a retail value of around $500,000.
After speaking about his conversion, Lane was telephoned by "Hustler" publisher Larry Flint--a former "hero" for his court battles over pornography. "He told me he thought I had been brainwashed," said Lane. "I said that my brain had been washed--in the blood of the Lamb."
Newly married and based in Tupelo, Miss., 33-year-old Lane speaks to churches and other groups not only about his business involvement in porn, but personally. He was exposed to pornography at a young age, discovering magazines kept secretly by his minister stepfather. He turned his back on the church because of the hypocrisy he saw at home.
He supports efforts like the WRAP campaign that warn of the dangers of porn, but believes that Christians need to be more loving toward those caught up in the industry. "If you want to close down a strip club, then introduce the owner to Jesus Christ, and I promise you it will close permanently," he said. Some pastors are afraid to address the issue of pornography either because they struggle with it themselves or because of its great power, he said.
As part of WRAP week, MIM supporters will be holding rallies and public awareness events highlighting the harm done by pornography. MIM spokesman Patrick McGrath said that the organization also wanted to see more federal prosecutions for obscenity. The numbers of cases had dropped under the present administration to "almost zero." He said: "We can't say for sure, but we suspect that it is a policy decision not to do these cases."
Lynne L-patin Remembers Paul Wisner

On Monday, the on-line magazine Salon will run a story about Gonzo and its effect on the pornography industry. The piece is built around face-to-face interviews conducted over the summer with John Stagliano, Steve Hirsch and Adam Glasser. The article was written by David Segal, a reporter at the Washington Post.
Johnathan, a Jew who graduated from Yale, writes Luke: Just wanted to add that I appreciate what you're doing by mentioning Jewish involvement in porn. The usual reaction is to stifle "negative" comments because outsiders will view "us" in a bad light. If black Americans, for example, could talk openly about their community failings, they might actually improve.
I think it's terrible that so many Jews are in porn. It says bad things about so-called secular Jews that their lack of involvement with God - whatever the level of their involvment with tradition - could lead them so far into what is obviously destructive to the psychological and emotional health of the performers, producers, etc. I say this as a reform Jew with a deep, abiding acceptance of God and a reasoned understanding of tradition. One need not be Orthodox or, God forbid, Haredim, but the absence of the central tenets of Judaism from these peoples' lives is both sad and devastating.
BTW, and you don't need to answer this, but is your fascination with your friend Kendra related to your mother issues and your family's evangelism? Do you feel a need to redeem the fallen? That could arise out of an innate sense of (undeserved) guilt because of the timing of your mother's illness and death; you can't raise the dead, but you may be able to raise the fallen living, an act which would expiate feelings of (imaginary) responsibility for your mother's death. I'm not saying that this friendship is bad. My question is about the extent to which you've analyzed your own motives.
