Court Rules Clown Obscene

AP: The Nebrasks Supreme Court ruled Friday that a man who dressed up as ``Crotchy the Clown'' and masturbated on his public access cable TV show violated obscenity laws.

The ruling overturned a decision by the state Court of Appeals, which had said the show was ``bizarre and disgusting'' but not obscene. The high court restored the distributing-pornography conviction and $1,000 fine against Scott Harrold.

About 14 minutes into the 16-minute show broadcast in 1995, Harrold, wearing only sunglasses and clown makeup, begins masturbating. Harrold said he produced the tape after a female viewer complained there was not enough male nudity on his show.

German Duo Convicted of Making Snuff Film

Two men in Germany were recently sentenced to life imprisonment for committing murder while producing a snuff film. It's the first such conviction ever. The men filmed themselves sexually assaulting and torturing a 21-year-old woman for a snuff film they had hoped to sell in America for $16,000. Frankfurt-based prosecutor Job Tillman says there's a ready market for films depicting violence against women and children -- especially in America. Although one of the men is appealing the ruling, the other says he views jail as an opportunity to work on himself and his problems.

Michael Leidig writes 4/13/99 from Vienna for the Daily Telegraph, a London newspaper:

...Ernst Dieter Korzen, 37, and Stefan Michael Mahn, 30, filmed themselves sexually assaulting and torturing a 21-year-old woman in 1997 to produce the snuff movie which they expected to sell for more than £10,000. The victim died before the production was complete and the pair kidnapped a second woman to finish the video. But she escaped and alerted authorities, who arrested the men.

The body of the first victim was found in a heap of rubbish at the farm of one of the men. Her hands and feet were tied with metal banding tape that had cut deeply into her skin. Forensic experts said the cause of death was strangulation. Wolfgang Rahmer, the chief prosecutor, told the court: "From my experience this represents a new depth in perversion. You see the victim begging for her life, pain being inflicted and massive sexual torture."

The court was told that the murdered woman, Jueleyha Akpinar, was working as a prostitute in Cologne when she met the two men in November. They offered her drugs and money to go with them to the remote bungalow in Kierspe-Roensal, near Hagen. A lack of direct evidence had previously led to widespread scepticism over the existence of a snuff movie industry, with many writing it off as an "urban myth". But Wolfgang Rahmer said he had no doubt that such an industry existed.

Both men were jailed for life in a secure psychiatric institution. Judge Hoerst Werner Herkenberg said Korzen should not expect his case to be re-examined for at least 18 years, and that Mahn would have to wait at least 15.

In his 1977 book The Film Maker's Guide to Pornography, Steven Ziplow writes:

"Snuff films are those in which the final sexual act is murder. No hard evidence has ever been presented that such films do exist, but rumor has it that there are a very few 8mm films to be had at a very high price. The major trouble with producing this sort of film is that you are constantly forced to be on the lookout for new talent."

I've been bombarded by the news that I'm calling it quits. While this is news to me I wonder where you got my quoted statements from? I have been getting an annoying fan that claims he's writing for you and other sites. He asked me for an interview because he published something nice about one of my movies. Where Was the Coverage?

LT writes on RAME: "Mike Ross is right in what he mentioned on your web site about "Condoms Over The Capitol" last year. I only saw one incredibly short clip on one L.A. newscast (it showed a sobbing Veronica Hart burying her crying head into the shoulder of another woman).

There was more print coverage of the press conference last year though. KCAL TV (Ch. 9) in L.A. doesn't count. They'll do any story on porn, all puff pieces. This being "sweeps" they ought to be doing one of their "Porn, errr, Prime Assignment" pieces. If it involves porn, porndoggie KCAL 9 will have a camera there.

Luke, you ought to look into "favors" being exchanged for coverage on KCAL. At the very least, KCAL's news director is a porn addict.

Mike Ross writes: Three years ago, when we first started "visiting" the capitol, we receive a TON of press, simply because we as an industry were visiting the capitol... PERIOD.

Two Years ago, we received twice as much press. Why? For two reasons, with the first being that we were "doing something worthy of reporting"...... and the fact that FSC, on Jeffrey Douglas's behalf (it was deisnged to promote him, then FSC) a firm was hired to promote the event. It cost over $15,000 to do (I received none of that). Articles ran in everything from Time Magazine to the LA Times To Rush Limbaugh. I received over 35 articles from my clipping service. (Relative to the Calderon Pornography Tax Bill)

Last year, when "Condoms over the capitol" flew wild, there was minimal coverage. There was no "print" and only a couple of stories on radio. Why? Because there was no story (Condoms dont make a story). As for print, I know first hand because I received only 3 articles from my clipping service.

As a side note, the majority of the stories that came out of the capitol last year delt with AB 726, the Juice Bar Bill that affected the Cabaret Industry and those stories, including 3 that ran in the LA Times and 2 that ran in the Chronicle, featured stories about The Adult Entertainment Industry Education Fund and not the FSC.

This year, there were no stories in the papers, none on TV and only one
on the radio (A morning zoo show that featured me for 5 minutes talking
about "porn in the capitol - why? because it is was on a Sacramento
Station that I listen to).... again, my clipping service provided me
with the information. Why? Again, having a bunch of porn stars up here
lobbying means nothing, if they have no credibility and are just there
for the publicity.

Combined, it shows a couple of things....

First, the FSC thinks they are newsworthy, when in fact, they are not.
They have become old hat, simply because they don't do anything but
"show off porn stars" and the main stream media won't promote them
simply to promote them.

Second, the FSC wastes money on promoting themselves before the media,
yet the capitol press corps is not stupid... they don't do stories unless there is actually a story

Third, the FSC had better do something to justify your dues amd our
support.

FSC President Gloria Leonard responds: "Me thinks the lad doth protest too much! Mike Ross is presently lobbying for the job of FSC Executive Director - if he believes all those bare-assed lies he posts to you, why the hell would he want to work for such an organization!"
