The Dallas Observer contains a lengthy expose of porn star Jordan Lee. Many in the industry were already acquainted with these allegations. Caressa Savage who was "married" to Jordan Lee, told me 10/14/98:

I went to see
Teri Weigel tonight at Deja Vu here in Toronto. I think
this is the third time I've seen her in a strip club.

Though the AVN Awards are more famous and more lavish, porn's most respected awards come from the XRCO (X-Rated Critics Organization) which held its annual show Thursday night at the Century Club in Century City. Most anybody who was anybody in the industry attended, including Steve Hirsch (Vivid), Russ Hampshire (VCA), Steve Orenstein (Wicked), Paul Fishbein and Gene Ross (Adult Video News magazine) and Wicked star Jenna Jameson.

Jenna Jameson hosted the show and afterwards told me that she had straightened out her life and gone through an attitude adjustment.
XRCO Hall of Fame inductees included Ed Powers, Kelly Nichols, Steve Drake, Barbara Dare, Director Roy Karch, Bobby Astyr, Director Jim Malibu (who entered porn in 1972), George Payne (one of the ten most handsome male performers ever who was reliable wood according to historian Jim Holliday) and posthumously Linda Wong and Shauna Grant.

Jeff Marton said the Rocco Siffredi videos Rocco Never Dies got twice the amount of usual reorders, but despite this, Marton doubts Rocco will recoup his $250,000 budget. Bigger budgets don't necessarily make for more eroticism, he pointed out. The average stroker at home does not look to porno for production values but to see good looking girls getting f---ed. When he wants a real movie, he will watch a real movie, not a VCA - Vivid imitation.

Wicked owner Steve Orenstein denies rumors that his company is relaxing its condoms only policy. Like Vivid Raw, however, Wicked does feature facials (males ejaculating on the face of the female).

Nic Cramer plans to shoot six films for Private. Their only film production so far was Cramer's Operation Sex Siege (1998) which supposedly cost over one million dollars.
Nic, a native Swede, interrupts his conversation with Lauren Montgomery to take a phone call from Swedish beauty Linda Thoren who calls him from Nic's new pad by the ocean. She's just flown in to town and most production companies want to use her the tall blonde beauty.
"I try to make a short movie of about 20 minutes and include an hour of sex," explains Cramer, a graceful integlligent director moving into middle age. He's just getting over his breakup a year ago with his porn star girlfriend of three years, Melissa Hill.

Lauren and Nic agree that it is healthy to work in both mainstream and porno, rather than just working porno but always wishing one were mainstream. Porno sets tend to be friendlier and more relaxed because there is not asmuch at stake.
"There are fewer egos in porn," says Cramer, "because we're all nobodies."
Along with Keri Windsor and Timber, Montgomery appears in a parisian sex show in the Warren Beatty film Town and Country.
If Luke's reporting appears shorter and more slipshod than usual, that's because electronic recording equipment (either cameras or recorders) were banned from the XRCO Awards with limited exceptions. Luke played by the rules and was later miffed to see that many persons did not.
When I first arrived at the show, I ran into AVN publisher Paul Fishbein and I congratulated him on the new site www.geneross.com. Dressed casually in blue jeans, Fishbein appeared tired by the complications and complaints that stem from the gossipy new site.
"It's your fault," Paul told me. Perhaps the largest reason Paul is where he is (among porn's most powerful) stems from the careful way he has nurtured relationships over the past 18 years. Despite the loud accusations against him that play on this site and elsewhere, he's as liked and respected as anyone in the business.
Porn's most liked and respected persons include Russ Hampshire (VCA), Steve Orenstein (Wicked owner), Joy King (Wicked Publicity Director), Mark Kernes (AVN), Guy DeSilva.
The new site www.geneross.com will place stress on many of Paul's relationships, and that of AVN (advertisers, for years, have quit frequently when upset by AVN's coverage) because it is a hard-hitting, controversial and gossip-filled site. For instance, though I knew about Chuck Martino's break up with Shay Sweet late last year, and her temporary fling with salesman Dusty, I wrote almost nothing about it because I thought it too sacred and personal. Thursay afternoon AVN sent out this press release to the adult industry. The headline read: "AVN and Gene Ross announce up-to-the-minute, REESPONSIBLE journalism on the Web."
The text read: "Van Nuys, CA - AVN is entering the arena of today's fast-paced, instantly-available news with a new Website dedicated to raising the standard of adult Internet journalism. Bringing his years of experience in the adult industry to the Web, AVN vice-president Gene Ross has taken on the role of full-time reporter for the Internet site.
