Mike Ross says: "According to the Department of Health Services, HIV testing can be done anywhere in California, and since the DOHS funds the programs, they are supposed to be "cheap"... about $50 per test. Additionally, any test done in the state of California has to be accepted by any clinic, as long as that clinic is licensed by the DOHS. To not accept the test is illegal.

Additionally, did you know it was illegal to require anyone to get an HIV test for reason of employment? Additionally, its illegal to require anyone to wear a condom for reasons of employment.

Finally, California law does not allow for the delivery or release of either the "test results or the name" of the person who took the test.

Hart Williams: "...the industry is USED to conducting its business on a "need-to-know" basis. Surely the endless screeching of our First Amendment poster boys and girls that Luke should be gagged and held under water ought to give a gentle hint that these are people so used to operating in the back alleys that the clear light of public attention and exposure (save for carefully controlled events a la CES) scares the living beejesus out of them.

If nothing else, in the past few months, as "insiders" have finally shown up on the NG, they have blinked with the astigmatic abandon of an agoraphobe seeing the sunlight unfiltered for the first time in a decade.

The old psychology of "what they don't know won't hurt us" is deeply ingrained in the biz, and, while I applaud the sensibility you're trying to bring in here, Mike, you've got to understand that, in general, it's an ALIEN sensibility.

Stephanie Swift [Melody Clark (Barrone)] is divorcing her husband Rubin so she can move in with director Brad Armstrong.

Nena Cherry has sought the services of famed Hollywood investigator Anthony Pellicano (Michael Jackson, Mark Fuhrman etc.) to investigate who has been harassing her on the internet. Pellicano alleges that she confided to him that she is indeed HIV+.

EdenRae@aol.com writes on rec.arts.movies.erotica:

"A few performers over the years have contracted Hepatitis, the latest was Jackie Lick, who told the NG a few weeks back that she had contracted it.

Thankfully, Jacklyn is not doing scenes any longer, and not risking anyone else's health. I wish her the best.

When it comes to other diseases, there is a "don't ask don't tell" policy in porn. When gonorrhea or other treatable diseases goes around, as it does occasionally, it is all hush hush. This is what more than likely causes it to "go around" in the first place.

When a performer contracts it, the unwritten rule is to stop shooting, get the shot, and resume shooting when the symptoms are gone. Mind you, absence of symptoms, does not mean that the disease is totally gone.

Most doctors say no sexual intercourse for 10-14 days after getting the shot of antibiotics, but some performer will start shooting as soon as possible, 3-4 days after treatment.

When someone does try to notify those they have shot with, they are often considered the source, and everyone blames them for anyone else who gets it.

Worse, rumors that they spread it intentionally are spread, as happened to Jeremy [Steele] 2 years ago. He contracted it on set (he was not engaging in sexual relations with anyone in his personal life at the time), and when he began having symptoms he got tested. He then got treated, and called the people he had worked with so that they would be aware that they should get tested.

Shortly there after he heard that people were saying he spread it knowingly.

Another disturbing incident. A girl by the name of Daisy Love (who was at the time homeless and living on the beach, as she told her agent), was sent to a shoot and had obvious symptoms of gonorrhea. When the director said something, she said that she KNEW she had it, and evidently said she wouldn't go to the doctor. She was actually intentionally not getting treated. Despite this fact, she was still allowed to perform a blow job scene, in lieu of the full B/G scene that was planned.

In cases like that, there should be no financial reward for the talent who is exhibiting such disregard for the health of others. They should be thrown off set without a second thought, not allowed to perform in another capacity, and still make money.

This kind of environment is what is wrong in this industry, and this is what will ensure that diseases still spread through segments of the industry every few months.
