1PM. 8/14/98. I walk into Star World which is locked as Rob Spallone is still on vacation in New York and Joe Spallone, his dad, is gone. I walk into Gourmet Video next door to say hello to Rob's mom Barbara. I meet a tall muscular German man, 29, Oliver, who looks like a Nazi. Luke looks around the room for a scoop. He sees syringes and signs of blood taking. "I heard you weren't drawing blood here anymore."

Bill: "You heard wrong."

Luke: "Russ Hampshire told me that AIM was no longer drawing blood."

Bill: "This is Dr. York's [Tricia Devereaux groupie and porn hanger on/fan] office. It has always been Dr. York's office. Dr. York [who refuses to return Luke F-rd's phone calls] pays the rent. AIM is across the hall for two more weeks."

Luke: "If this is just Dr. York's office, and not AIM, why is there this on the door, which reads "Adult Industry Medicine Foundation"?

Bill: "That proves you can read. Print that."

Luke: "OK."

I go to the bathroom next door. When I come back, I see that Bill Margold has removed the placard "Adult Industry Medicine Foundation" from room 200. Then he closes the door on me. The AIM door is also closed.

I run into Sharon Mitchell. "AIM is moving in two weeks (Ventura/Beverly Glen). We'll be set up there primarily for counseling. Dr. York will be set up close by to draw blood."

Luke: "I heard reports from three people that you were leaving AIM?"

Sharon: "Not true. I'm the president of AIM. I formed the company. I'm here. We're going to be doing all the services, the counseling, the educational…umm… We're going to expand our services for referral, the database on condom unity and HIV, and doing what we can for the industry. We expect full compliance now from all clinics because we are separate now from Dr. York."

Luke: "Are you getting that?"

Sharon: "No, we haven't been getting cooperation from the North Hollywood clinic. But we're expecting full compliance now. And we've also brought three or four other doctors and we've also brought two or three other doctors in the area to participate in our database and do HIV testing."

Luke: "How'd you like the World Pornography Conference?"

Sharon: "The conference was fabulous. I was privileged to take part in several different situations. The documentary "Daddy Make Me A Star," did well. I've spoken to people at Universal Studios and A@E Network."

Entrepreneur Damian Michaels, who until last week worked at Star World, walks by to go into Jim South's office in room 203.

Since 1994, room 200 has been PAW (Protecting Adult Welfare). About a month ago it became AIM (Adult Industry Medicine Foundation). Now it is Dr. York's office. The same people hang out there and the same procedures go on. At least until recently, the caller ID for phones from the office registered as "Free Speech Coalition."

Until the last few weeks, the Free Speech Coalition paid the salaries of staffers Bill Margold ($1000 a month) and Sharon Mitchell (about $13 an hour).

In 1985, I was "relieved of my duties" in editing (and keeping the top ten charts) for FILM WORLD REPORTS because (as was told me by the late Ralph Weinstock, which is why I'm not naming any names) a "certain company" (still existent) [VCA?] threatened to pull all their advertising from our other magazines and the annual film directory.

Why? I refused to "cook the books" and put a certain number of their videos in the top 10 -- whether their sales justified it or not. This "quota" I was informed, had been strictly adhered to by my predecessors.

Do I believe that they DON'T pull this on AVN? Hardly.

Kill the messenger, FSC. Hell, if you'd have gotten to Luke sooner, Mark Wallice WOULDN'T be HIV positive, right?

Partnership in Education

VCA's Russell Hampshire, and 1st amendment lobbyist, Michael Ross, joined forces last Wednesday as production began on a non-sexual "How To" video addressing the oft confusing machinations of our government’s lobbying process.

The 25 minute piece, featuring Nina Hartley and Mike Horner, is expected to emerge as a successful exercise in education through entertainment.

Although intended to advance the cohesion of 1st amendment supporters, the finished product is expected to cross over into mainstream educational markets. "This is a first of its kind," enthused director Jane Hamilton emphasizing the generic quality of the message. "The information presented here can be used to lobby for anything, not just adult issues."

"Most people find the legislative process intimidating," added Ross. "They don’t stand up for what they believe because they don’t really know how. This will be a fun way for them to learn how to work together to preserve the industry as well as our constitutional rights."

According to Mr. Hampshire, neither release dates nor marketing strategies have been determined at this time.

I would like to take a moment or two to sincerely thank VCA's Russell Hampshire, Jane Hamilton (and her family), Nina Hartly and Mike Horner for arriving in Sacramento on Wednesday to help make a personal dream a reality.

For those of you who don't know, for over a year and a half, I have had the dream of producing a video that would teach the "consumer on the street" how to participate in the governmental process. As part of that dream I wrote a script and submitted it to VCA, using normal "submission channels."

Last Wednesday, VCA, Stars and staff traveled to Sacramento to shoot the nucleus of an educational film on lobbying. During their visit to Sacramento, I want everyone to know that "we as a crew" demonstrated a quality that I and others in the Capitol respect and admire .... an impressive professional image dedicated to educating the masses about legislative actions.

After discussions with many people in the capitol before, during and after the filming, its important to note that many republicans and democrats in the capitol not only recognize our rights to educate and organize, but more importantly, recognize the positive impact that this video can and will create. In my opinion, this leaves many afraid (or is it in awe) of this "sleeping giant's" overall political, social and economic power.

As a fellow first amendment advocate dedicated to helping protect and expand economic markets, I hope that this "impact" will be just one of the many tools that first amendment supporters and advocates will use to help create a cohesive team that will work together to fight to preserve the industry, constitutional rights and an economic future.
