On June 1, 1998, the owner of the North Hollywood Medical Clinic (818-760-4500), Dr. James V. Bonura, Ph.D., filed this complaint with the State of California Medical Board, at 1426 Howe Ave, #54, Sacramento, CA, 95825.

Dear Marianne:

Per our conversation of May 29, 1998, please accept this letter as a formal complaint against an organization known as Protecting Adult Welfare (PAW) for drawing blood of patients in an office with NO LICENSES whatsoever.

PAW is an organization which attempts to protect clients in the adult entertainment industry - basically it is a social service agency. A requirement in this industry requires that adult entertainment talent be tested for the HIV virus on a monthly basis as protection for industry talent. Many reputable clinics in the area provide this service, our clinic included.

Recently, complaints from patients regarding their service led us to discover that PAW has decided to do their own testing. To do this they rented a small office next to a talent agency known as World Modeling Agency (itself not licensed by the State as a talent agency) and commenced drawing blood and performing HIV testing. Obviously this is a blatant disregard for State guidelines and licensing procedures. As we understand this matter, in order to draw blood, regular procedures such as CLIA licenses must be in place plus a myriad of other procedures.

With the volatile nature of the HIV virus - especially with a population as susceptible as the adult entertainment industry - we are concerned to the utmost.

Therefore, we respectfully request a very quick investigation of this agency PAW. Time is of paramount importance because an epidemic could spread very quickly with inadequate medical qualifications servicing such a volatile population.

Dr. Bonura's complaint was forwarded 6/18/98 to Alice Brydon, Chief of Facility Licensing Section, Department of Health Services, Lab Field Services, 2151 Berkeley Way Annex 12, Berkeley, CA, 94704. The investigation will take about six months.

Through 90 degree heat, Luke F-rd drove down Coldwater Canyon Blvd into North Hollywood Wednesday morning 7/29/98 to visit his buddy Rob Spallone at Star World, located at 13160 Raymer Street in a strip of industrial buildings that resemble junk yards.

Luke walked up a long tarmac driveway onto the cement parking lot in front of Gourmet Video (13160 Raymer) and Star World Modeling (13162 Raymer). Rob drives a large black Mercedes Sedan. His father normally drives a 1998 Cadillac. A couple of the leading employees drive sports cars. The Mexican help who box and ship the tapes drive older model cars. The Gourmet/Star World parking lots houses about 25 cars, many of them getting fixed by Rob Spallone's mechanic, a wild-eyed frightening homeless character covered with grease and grime named Dave.

Sal Sodano, a painfully skinny smoking addict in his '60s with tanned olive skin, operates a sophisticated editing bay.

Damien Michaels, a Sicilian recently in from New York with long extensive friendships with mobsters from his childhood neighborhood of Bensonhurst in Brooklyn, is now the Vice President of Star World. Rob Spallone occupies the main desk. Assistants Matt Jade and Wayne Crews wander in and out along with Rob's Rottweiler puppy BJ.

Joe Spallone is in Luke F-rd's home town of Sacramento on a talent call. Star World signed this week six local girls. Joe shot a movie in Sacramento today.

Rob met this morning with a representative of a leading pornographer [Edward Wedelstedt?] who planned to donate thousands of dollars to the latest acronym created by the Free Speech Coalition - AIM (Adult Industry Medicine). Rob regards PAW/AIM as incompetent.

"A few of the big companies [Vivid, VCA and Wicked] donated thousands of dollars to Free Speech to pay for people's tests who couldn't afford it the first time. We were sending people over there, but they encountered - "We'll give you the free test, but you'll have to join Free Speech for $50.' There's your Mafia, Luke.

"I don't believe that AIM screwed over Kristin on purpose. But they're not doing things right over there. They are the ones who found the test [PCR-DNA] for $64 at a cheaper lab. I'm not saying that it is a bad lab… Any lab can have a problem, but they seem to be having a lot of them. This ain't the first time that someone got a false positive there.

"I haven't heard from Jeffrey Douglas and Sharon Mitchell since I went to lunch with them [in May]. Since they told me, 'oh yeah, thank you…' About my letting them work out of the North Hollywood clinic or this hospital I have a connection with… Then three days later I read the article that they were opening their own clinic…

"If they think that they can sit and talk nice to me, and then go behind my back, they can go f--- themselves. I've got CAL-OSHA coming next week. I told AVN that they could come sit and listen… I'm going to the Health Department… It is time that they step in and start making some rules and regulations for us, not this f---ing industry making their own laws and rules. You've got to get this test, you've got to get tested at this place. Who are they to say where you've got to get tested?

"I don't care where you get your test. I don't care if you get a test. It's not my concern. It's the person you're working with. They [FSC] think they can run around telling people what to do, is bulls---.

"Free Speech told Kimberly Jade they were going to take care of her. Then she asked for a few hundred dollars to help with her car payment and they tell her they don't have it. Where's all the money they make? Eddie Wedelstedt wants to donate thousands of dollars to help them open their clinic. For what? Where's all the money that Russ Hampshire and the big companies donated to them?

"This poor girl can't work because she got AIDS in this industry, and they can't give her a few hundred dollars until she gets on her feet?

"I hope they get closed down by the talent and then by the Health Department. Let them all go to jail. This Jim South is behind it as well. Just like Marc Wallice, they didn't know that he had it [HIV]? You [Luke] did. They're murderers. They should all go to jail for murder.

"This poor girl {Kristin]. They tell her that she has AIDS, in front of thousands of people [MTV]. This poor girl is ready to kill herself. Oh whoops, we made a mistake.

"You wanna open up a clinic today Luke? I think that Reb should open one in his office? We'll open a clinic in our lounge… You should open up one in your van and drive around giving tests. It would be the same as their clinic.

"They'll probably change their name again… From Free Speech to PAW to AIM, because they don't get along with Bill Margold. I'm up there [PAW] one day [late May] and they have this petition going around to get rid of Bill Margold. Because he was off that day. So they're passing around a petition in his office to get rid of him.

"Sharon Mitchell's the big counselor?"

Luke: "She's a certified HIV counselor by the state of California."

Rob: "She gave herself the license. She has her own staff, she tells people. 'Rob, I'd go over to that clinic [North Hollywood] but I need a lot of room. I have ten people on my staff.' What do they do? They hand out teddy bears and lolly pops? They're a nursery. They should go to a kindergarten and get some students. They want to sit there and play with your teddy bear. Kimberly Jade, they were sending her to AIDS things. To a drug meeting. They don't know what they're doing. They want to have a title. They wanna be big shots. In this business, you f--- for a few years and you get out. You go get a job. They want to stay…

"A blonde girl with a little kid came in here yesterday. Bill Margold said to me: 'Oh you're beautiful, you should do a bondage video with me.' She said the guy [Margold] looks like he was dead ten years, and nobody told him. And he wanted her to do a bondage video with him. He begged her for ten minutes."

[At PAW/AIM, Margold has solicited other girls including Elizabeth X to do bondage and spanking videos with him.]

"That's what they do over there. They try to get in the girls' pants. We don't do that here. You've been here 100 times. Nobody tries to get down these girls pants. You've been here when I've tried to talk girls out of this business. These people [PAW/FSC/AIM] are sick perverted scumbags. They care about money and getting their dick wet.

"Who makes up their condom lists? Four of the guys on the condoms only list worked last week without condoms.

"Does Sharon Mitchell stick condoms over her head and then stick it up Jim South's ass?"

Rob glances through the August AVN.

"Jeffrey Douglas, you're a dick. You ain't got no balls. They're phoney motherf---ers. Johnny Black and her husband talked to me on the phone for half hour. They're having financial troubles with their performers guild… They're moving down here from San Clemente.

"Sharon and Jeffrey act like they are friends with Johnny and her husband… And Sharon and Jeffrey said about Michael, Johnny's husband, 'that guy is a pain in the ass.' While they act like they're his best friend.

"Who is Sharon Mitchell to run a clinic? Who decides that she's going to be the one in charge of HIV testing? Who decided that this dykey junkie f---ing cunt is in charge? She's a real scientist. They better not try to be friends with me again, 'cause I'll let them have it. 'Oh Rob, you're so sweet. You did so much. You help the talent.' f---ing lying cunts.

"Luke, as soon as you hear that Free Speech is having another meeting, let me know. They better have armed guards there with cannons to stop me from coming. Any meeting about this industry, I will be there. I'm part of this industry. You think I lashed out last meeting? I'll really let them know this time. Print it, Luke. I'm bringing my f---ing dog with me, Damien.

"Sharon said: "Oh Rob, we decided that none of the talent agents should be at the meeting.' Why did they decide that? Because they knew that I'd explode. But I'm not just a talent agent. I'm talent. I've been in tons of movies.

Rob says to Damien: "You need to get me a 16 year old girl so that I can f--- her in the ass, just like they do at World Modeling."

[Next day Rob phones screaming. "You misquoted me. I didn't say that. I'm going to strangle you. I said a 60-year old woman."]

Rob calls Charley Frey. They talk about John Bone. "They shot a whole movie and bounced checks on everybody in the movie," says Rob. "I had 20 people call me last month. 'Hey Rob, can you call John Bowen. He owes me money.'

Charley says that John Bone owes him $100,000.

Rob: "He shot here [two weeks ago] and rented $300 worth of neon. The neon place called here, complaining that the check bounced. He knows that there's no money in the bank, but he writes checks anyway. He shoots movies for free. John Bone is good friends with Gene Ross [so Gene has long been loathe to write anything bad about John]. Or was…

"When Joe [Spallone] got sick three years ago, with his heart, John Bone used to hang out here every day. He came to the hospital every day.

"How's wacky [Viagra Falls]? She's in Florida. This girl made me nuts… I booked jobs for her, she didn't show up."

Rob is thrilled to see Gina, a 62-year old woman who's been sending pictures to Rob for years, but has never shown up. Today she shows. Rob introduces the old lady to his mother.

Gina says she's a sex maniac. She shot for Mickey Blank. Rob sends her over to Ed deRoo at Totally Tasteless Video.

Gina shows off her plastic surgery to take away wrinkles. Rob's mom is going through similar procedures. Barbara turns 60 in September to her great fright. Gina says she just had her eyes done. Rob says she looks 50 years younger than her pictures.

I wander into Sal's office. He runs tape of JR Carrington doing Dave Hardman. Sal worries that the picture is too soft to use for a compilation tape.

On Tuesday, 7/28, Rob went to see the DA over the lawsuit by Duke aka Sydney Glassberg, who alleges that Rob beat him up. "As we walked up the DA office's steps, up comes Sydney…with an oxygen tank and a walker. And Peter Davey says that he came by his office the other day in a new Cadillac, with no walker and no oxygen tank. He has a new job. He drives prostitutes around at night.

"The DA had so sense of humor. They called me, Matt Jade and Mark Spiegler in… Then they said, 'call next week and we'll let you know if we're going to arrest you…'

"I must've told the DA 50 times that Duke is a pimp, a drug addict and a drug dealer."

A catering truck drives up. Rob buys me a drink. The driver pays Rob numerous bills. It turns out that Rob owns a fleet of catering trucks in addition to other cash rich businesses.

The hispanic sisters Jackie (20 yo with one kid) and Irma (19 yo with two kids) drop by. They did a video with Ed Powers last week. Jackie has done four videos total. Rob plans to drive them around Porn Valley tomorrow, offering them do different companies.

The owner of Gourmet, Howie Wasserman walks in. Standing about 6'2", clean-shaven with white hair, he wears shorts and a bright pink shirt. About 65 years of age, he lives in Las Vegas and enjoys driving his 454 power boat over Lake Mead. Howie grew up with Joe Spallone in the Bronx and entered porno in the '60s. He's a man of few words, certainly with inquiring reporters.

Dave Cummings walked in… "You're our entertainment down in San Diego," says Dave about l-keford.com. "We have to watch that site just to laugh at you."

Dave says he's getting 4000 hits a day to davecummings.com.

Dave plans a shoot soon with Johnny Black. "She's going to play Lieutenant Colonel and I will play captain. And she will sexually harass me.

"I did two sex scenes with a girl who turned 18 12 days ago - Sunny Daze."

Rob promotes his hispanic sisters to Dave, who drove from San Diego just to test at PAW. "I've got to find a way to get this test in San Diego… It's five hours out of my day. It's a 250 mile dangerous round trip… But they [SD clinic] can't get the embossing stamp. They'll do it for $116."

Rob explodes. "What stamp?"

Dave: "I guess they [PAW/AIM] have some kind of embossing stamp [on the HIV tests] that the girls are looking for…"

Rob: "They are not allowed to do that. They tried to do that to the North Hollywood clinic, and I made them throw the stamp in the garbage."

Dave: "So if I and girl wanted to work in your studio today…"

Rob: "Number one. As a shooter, I have no right to ask you for this test. The talent has that right."

Dave Cummings stands out for his honesty, integrity, discipline, professionalism, friendly demeanor and positive attitude.

Spallone, smoking a $40 Cuban cigar books his studio for a Friday shoot featuring a black man from Arizona with an 18 inch dick. Then he pulls 11 permits for people who used to do this through World Modeling. Rob charges $300 each, compared to Jim South's rate of $700 each. They will cost Rob a total of $470 in fees.

I drive with Rob and the two hispanic sisters, as well as a colored female newcomer named Millenium.

Rob loses us with his wild driving so we don't know where we are.

Irma fantasizes about being raped. "You're letting them do something to you that you don't want to do. But not by black guys." Jackie does not do blacks either.

Rob: "Ok girls, close your eyes, because if you see where we're going, I'll have to kill you."

We arrive at Déjà Vu's sophisticated two-year old internet sex operation in North Hollywood. Four studios (four more available) are running when we arrive, one gay. No penetration shown for fear of obscenity busts. The employees are mainly overweight pale young whites, many with piercings. All seem jaded. This is a top secret operation. A sign above the phone commands employees to not talk about the business.

Rob's three girls sign up to strip on the net.

At 3:45 PM, Rob and I arrive at the North Hollywood Clinic at 12910 Victory Blvd, for an interview with the owner, Dr. James V. Bonura.

Dr. Bonura shows me the release form for porn performers. It reads in part: "…you further authorize Physician, Clinic, Protecting Adult Welfare and your Agent (s) of Record to disclose a positive test result to any individual and/or entity who might have been placed at risk, or may subsequently be placed at risk by you, in the event your test results are positive."

Dr. Bonura regards the AIM practice of faxing out HIV results to numerous persons in porno as violating norms of confidentiality. Dr. Bonura is incensed with AIM/PAW for the Kristin fiasco.

Rob: "You put your seal on your tests. But some people take your test results over to PAW who put their stamp on it. They are not allowed to put their stamp on your test."

Dr. Bonura, a psychiatrist who owns three medical clinics: "That's another illegal, unprofessional thing they're doing."

Rob: "You could sue them for putting a stamp on your test. They're saying that they're approving your test. Who are they to approve your test? "

Dr. Bonura: "I didn't even know the girl's name [Kristin, Matt Zane's girlfriend]. But under any professional ethical code for any medical doctor, there's a rule of confidentiality. If someone called here and wanted to know if Luke F-rd came to this clinic, I could not even say that. That's a breach of confidentiality.

"The girl found out that she had a positive test, and that she needed to retest. I understand that she had signed a release to allow the other talent to know, but she found out that MTV was told about it… It wound up all over the internet. This is a total breach of confidentiality.

"They never waited for the confirmation tests. She took two Western Blots, two Elisas and two PCRs, which all showed her to be negative. She never had HIV. This girl was suicidal. If it had it not been for her friend [Militia] who went on a 24 hour alert, she may have committed suicide. All because you're dealing with non-professionals who are operating an illegal clinic.

"Any lab has to have government sanction, including a CLIA license. We have one. Our medical directors are some of the most reputable doctors in the area, they are medical doctors in different hospitals.

"I have never been over there [PAW/AIM]. I understand they have a room next to some talent agency and they're shipping the blood out. It's a slipshod operation. I've just found out that the girl who runs the place, Sharon Mitchell, whose been telling me… congratulating her on getting her degree… I've found out that she just has some certificate for drug counseling, which is probably a 24 hour course.

"So you've got a bunch of non-professionals dealing with the most crucial disease going… And we're seeing the repercussions now. It's blatant what they did to this kid. She was ready to jump…

"I get calls saying that Bill Margold is badmouthing our clinic. They've never been here. I called them a couple of months ago to ask them what their problem was. Margold was so intellectual I couldn't understand half of what he was trying to say. They've conducted this campaign against us.

"I have no inclination to deal with them… But when this happened {Kristin's false positive]… We sat here with her for four hours. I brought in the head chemist from Best Specialty labs. We sat here like we were waiting for a baby to be born. This kid was on edge. We waited for the fax to come in [with the PCR results].

"And to hear that this kid is ruined in the industry, and her girlfriend under quarantine and losing thousands of dollars, all because of some hysteria by non-professionals. This is appalling.

"I have no idea how they got the wrong test results. Quest is a good lab. The girl [Kristin] says they drew three vials and they can't find two of the vials."

Rob: "The reason that Jim South and PAW told people to not use this clinic [North Hollywood] was because Rob Spallone had something to do with it. [Rob sends talent to North Hollywood but receives no kickbacks from the clinic and owns no part of it, and in no way profits from it, he says.] Then, Jim and his son decided one night to open their own clinic, to take all the customers away from Rob Spallone's clinic. They opened it in their own office, but they did it under the auspices of Free Speech and PAW… Then they started badmouthing Dr. Bonura after he did everything for them."

Dr. Bonura: "Rob walked in here [a year ago] wanting to open a clinic. I said, 'why do that? We'll do the tests your people need.' Rob could've opened his own place, but why?"

Rob: "This guy is legit. He won't forge tests. Over there [AIM], they have the result paper. They'll fake it every time. Jim South told a girl, 'you don't look like you have AIDS. Go ahead and work [without a test].'"

Dr: "Sharon Mitchell will call all the time for me to fax over a test. First thing I will do is look in the client's file. And I'll say, 'sorry Sharon, she hasn't signed a release to you.' Then she'll [Sharon Mitchell] go off… I can't give them results."

Rob: "Whatever clinic people go to, she wants the results brought back to her office, so that she can say she's watching it and she's in charge. She's not allowed to do that. This is privileged information."

Dr. James Bonura managed Hollywood talent for nine years.

Dr: "Sharon Mitchell came here [May 19] when an actress [Kimberly Jade] tested positive here. Thinking she [Mitchell] had all the follow-up connections, I called her. She then sold this girl [Kimberly Jade] a bill of goods. She [Sharon] was going to take care of this and this and this… Aftercare, doctors, support groups, financial…further tests… I thought Sharon was very connected with the AIDS community… Then I find out that Kimberly Jade hasn't seen or heard from her since. She [Mitchell] didn't even show up to jail.

"My personal impression was that it was an ego trip [for Mitchell]. 'I'll take care of you. Nobody will know about this.' Then she ran out of here… So Kimberly comes here crying…

"I went to that [FSC] meeting [April 12] which I ended up walking out of… I thought it was just a group of people grandstanding… A group of unprofessionals trying to take charge of a chaotic industry.

"You can't just start drawing blood. It cost me $40,000 to just get my licenses in place. Walk into any room and you'll see certificates from different departments.

"At first we only needed Elisa tests. Then PAW decided they wanted PCR DNAs. At first they charged $250. We got it down to $95.

"I told Margold. I don't know your industry. I'm not concerned about your industry. If you sit in my waiting room, I have millions of families. I have no idea if a patient is a waitress or if she is in porno. Then this PAW puts themselves up as the standard of the industry. I say, this is absurd, but if they need this test, we will provide it. But who are they to say which test? I think a monthly PCR DNA test is ridiculous. Maybe every three months, with Elisas every month."

Rob: "I told him that he had should have the porno people come through a back door. You have families come to this clinic. Most of these porno people are not normal. They dress the part, like porno girls."

Dr: "He wanted me to build a waiting room in the back."

Rob: "Doctor calls me up. 'You've got this guy in the front, Regan, talking about tits and pussies and stuff. And we have patients here.' So I talked to Regan…

"The talent should decide which tests they want to get, not PAW or Free Speech. It shouldn't matter where people get their tests. Jim South and Bill Margold only care because they thought Rob had something to do with the North Hollywood clinic."

Dr: "They accused me of giving the phone numbers of the [porno] girls to Rob. That's ridiculous. I'm not going to jeopardize my license to do that."

Rob: "The only thing that I do for this clinic is vouch for the checks of some people… Because they've had a lot of bad checks from porno talent."

Dr: "Several times a week I tell Rob, 'take your patients elsewhere.' I make no money from this [HIV testing for porno]. It's not worth it. Go find another clinic. And it's not the talent. They dress appropriately. The headaches I get are from these unprofessional morons [at PAW/AIM/FSC] who scream and raise havoc…

"I like Rob and I like the people who come in here, like Dave Hardman and Randy West… It's these animals [at PAW]."

Rob: "It wasn't Free Speech or PAW that started that clinic [PAW/AIM]. It was Jim South behind it. And let him deny that he didn't know that Marc Wallice was HIV positive but Luke F-rd, this f---ing imbecile that everybody hates, he knew it. Bulls---. They all knew it and they covered it up. They are scumbags."

Dr Bonura: "I'm just furious with what they did to this girl [Kristin]. They announced it to MTV. MTV even went to the girl, the announcer, and said, 'how could they announce your name to us?'

"If you were licensed, they'd lose their license. But they have no license. They have nothing to lose."

Millenium: "I tested at PAW. The facility is not medically inclined. The place is not sanitary."

Internet Child Porn Disgusts Dutch

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - This is Holland's summer of shame.

The discovery of a Netherlands-based ring that trafficked in the most shocking kinds of child - even infant - pornography on the Internet has unleashed a lurid scandal, which gained momentum with the firing of a Justice Ministry official who allegedly downloaded child porn for personal use.

With ties to Germany, Italy and the United States, the case has brought calls for the revival of anti-porn vice squads and a more aggressive approach to electronic smut.

The public outrage stands in contrast to the generally tolerant attitude toward personal vice in the Netherlands, where prostitution and use of ``soft'' drugs like marijuana are legal.

But the Dutch are not ready to tolerate the pornography discovered on computer drives and diskettes in mid-July, when police raided a cluttered apartment in the sleepy North Sea town of Zandvoort and the scandal broke.

The apartment owner, convicted German pedophile Gerrie Ulrich, 49, was shot to death in Pisa, Italy, in June, allegedly by a rival gang member. Dutch authorities are seeking extradition of the slaying suspect, Robert van der Plancken, 24, of Belgium.

The seized materials include digital photos and video that depict children as young as 12 months old being raped and sodomized. Among the films is one titled ``Oh Daddy,'' in which balding, middle-aged men have intercourse with 5-year-old and 8-year-old girls, one of whom appears to have been so heavily drugged that some experts fear she may have been dead.

This week, the scandal took a startling new turn. A top employee of the Justice Ministry, which is leading the investigation, was ousted for downloading child pornography from his office computer for personal use.

The case has shattered the tranquility of the summer holidays and erased lingering exuberance over the national soccer team's ascent to the World Cup semifinals. Newspapers blare the latest developments, feeding a national obsession for details.

It echoes the uproar in Belgium over apparent police ineptitude that let a serial child rapist and killer, Marc Dutroux, prey on young girls for years, and even escape briefly in April.
