Charles Socarides Reparative World
Ed Phillips writes: Luke, I'll bet we all share hedonistic visions of a huge, futuristic sex industry, one that is even more highly visual and extreme than today's. My own hope is that l-keford.com can perhaps help to prevent just such a future sex world from ever evolving, by throwing the sex industry back in society's face, until society itself is one day willing to take the lionshare of responsibility for having created it in the first place. Unfortunately, until society does accept responsibility for the sex industry, it will not have any real reason nor motivation to ever understand nor ever determine the root causes for it. And until that happens, the sex industry will thrive as always.
In this regard, Charles Socarides MD, President of NARTH, who has done for the pre-oedipal(maternal) separation/individuation crisis what Freud did for the Oedipal (paternal)crisis, offers key insights which I believe will help give a language to future discourse and discussions about the underlying societal causes of the sex industry. Here are just some of them:
1.All sex of the sex industry and all perversions can be traced back to an unacceptable primary feminine identification. This means reparative psychology applies equally well to both homosexuals and heterosexuals who retain an unacceptable primary feminine identification. A requested clarification about homosexual choice: The primary regressions to homosexuality occur so early in development(by age 3 to 4) that they are essentially permanent and intractable at that time. So, in a true sense, there never was a choice in becoming homosexual as a child. Indeed, it will be impossible to change sexual orientation later as well, unless the individual first completes the omitted Oedipal development. In point of fact, however, reparative therapy is typically sought out for other distressing reasons, e.g., suicidal reaction to loss of an idealized lover without whom the individual feels he or she cannot maintain a separate existence. At the outset, virtually all homosexuals enter reparative therapy personally convinced that their own homosexuality is instinctive, and not developmental, and unchangeable.
2.Modern culture is already glaringly visual and sexualized. This is also consistent with Socarides' reparative viewpoint, which, by extension, suggests that today's sexual culture is likely traceable to pre-oedipal failures in development. This raises an ominous question: are there really two separate subclasses of human beings, the Oedipal successes, i.e., those who have successfully completed psychosexual development, including separation and individuation from their mothers and fathers, and the pre-oedipal failures, who haven't?
3.Look at the enormous focus on bodily perfection and idealized youthful looks today. Does this suggest that something is perhaps fundamentally , "reparatively" amiss with our culture? All the focus on aerobics and body enhancements, including plastic surgery, for example, suggests a core disenchantment with our naturalistic humanity in favor of some idealized--and perverse--sexuality. The new exhibitionistic bras are a perfect example, so to speak: they are worn by women not to attract even more, unneccessary men(semen is cheap, after all)but to repair a defective body-and-gender-image with an idealized, perfected, "reparative" self-image. Modern psychology of the sexual perversions also discusses bingeing/purging and anorexia as "reparative".
4.All of the sex of the sex industry can be seen as a problem of inappropriate, or pathological distance, traceable to unhealthy patterns of rejecting, or non-involved distancing, or distorted narcissistic intrusion or mirroring on the part of the child's father or mother. Socarides' parental profiles confirm this pattern. From an evolutionary standpoint, beauty itself may also be seen as an adaptation allowing for"faster recognition of maleness/femaleness at a distance".
From this view, the sex industry would simply be an extremized version of "macho" versus "ultra-femme" over-compensation, with everyone in flight from an unacceptable or problematic primary feminine identification. Try this: Go to any sex club and here's what you'll see: Males coming in either alone, in pairs or in groups,
1.each in order to escape his own unconscious homosexual fear of the other males and prove his malesness,
2.each in search of his own lost masculinity at the club,
3.each contrasting himself against over-feminized women who thus make them feel even more assuredly masculine, and
4.each in order to feel less threatened by their own sense of primary feminine identification, which they share with the other men.(The converse pattern is true for the over-feminized sexy waitresses and sex workers, who are likewise trying to prove their femininity against their own broken primary feminine identifications.)Furthermore, it would also be correct to say that male porn consumers, though clearly heterosexual, are really in unconscious flight from their own primary feminine identification and fears of homosexuality.
5.Although Socarides' theory is purely clinical and applied (as all modern-day psychotherapy and psychiatry) any ultimate theory of human sexuality and origins must be consistent--or at least not contradict-- what we learn about our human/primate past, so anyone or any religion that objects to Darwinian evolution now will certainly automatically reject any scientific theory of human sexuality in the future, leaving such discussion open to "academics only".
Atlanta's Love Shack Files Suit
From Friday's Gwinnett Daily Post:
ATLANTA — The Love Shack operator has filed a new federal lawsuit against Gwinnett County challenging its adult entertainment laws on behalf of five other similar businesses he wants to open in the county.
The latest suit was filed Friday afternoon in federal court seeking preliminary and permanent injunctive relief against Gwinnett’s adult entertainment law.
John Cornetta alleges that Gwinnett’s ordinance concerning adult entertainment is unconstitutional, location requirements for these establishments are unconstitutional and the county’s licensing fees are unconstitutional.
Friday’s civil suit is filed on behalf of Zibtluda LLC, which has a lease interest in property at 6073 Peachtree Parkway in Norcross, which is ready to open.
And Cornetta said he has plans to open four other Love Shacks in Gwinnett once the court rules. Cornetta contends that the license and zoning restrictions are in violation of the law and the enforcement of those laws are in violation of his right to free speech. “Gwinnett County has effectively zoned adult entertainment out of existence in its borders,” the suit contends.

Instead of spending money on lawyers trying to defend this kind of material, Rob and Tom(or whoever else might be footing the bill) would be better off by getting back to the basics. You know, women and sex. Films like Forced Entry, Shades Of Hades and Days Of Whore might be original comcepts for a more 'adult' adult audience. Some of us fans out there might even respect what Zupko and Borden are doing, but sadly, most government officials probably won't feel the same way! The only thing they see when they watch such films are obscenity violations!
