Luke Enters Porn

In January, 1996, I leave a note under the PAW office door (just down the hallway from Jim South's office) for Bill Margold. He calls me the next day and we begin an ongoing series of interviews. He invites me to the sixth annual Foxe (Fans Of X-rated Entertainment) Awards Show in early February in Hollywood.

I arrive early. Margold introduces me to a couple around 20 years of age. They're new in town and want to get into porn. At least she does. And he's along for the ride.

She's cute and curvy with the innocent face that pornographers love. Upon our introduction, she suddenly assumed the position of an arrested woman against the wall and cries, "Search me." Her hands are head high against the wall and her legs about two feet apart. Her boyfriend has a funny look on his face but says I can go ahead. I want to but don't. It doesn't seem right.

We chat for a few minutes. She talks about her thirst for stardom. Then people more important than I arrive and take her attention. Talent agent Regan Senter talks to her and said he could get her work that evening. A photographer with an office in the building will pay her $250 on the spot to suck his dick. The girl disappeared up the elevator with the older man.

I feel conflicting emotions. That somebody could just purchase the sexual services of such an attractive woman with such ease was a thrill. That somebody could defile such a girl so easily was appalling. And there was her boyfriend left behind in the crowd. As the evening progresses, over 1000 people show up, more than 90% male.

Most of the females are porn stars. They're immediately surrounded by camera wielding fans. The girls pose willingly. The fans get chummy with the girls who are tough and slap any fan who touches them in an unwanted way.

It's a rough crowd, though no rougher than the porners. Porners come to this show as a way of thanking their fans. They are not paid to attend. The appearance and manner of most attendees strikes me as even less couth than a typical San Francisco 49er game (I used to cover the team when I worked at a couple of Sacramento radio stations).

The Foxters sport obscene T-shirts, pierced body parts, long hair, jewelry, and tattoos. Overall, it's the type of crude low class behavior that one would expect from a gathering of porners and porn fans. Despite consuming large amounts of alcohol, the fans generally behave within legal limits. The few who don't were whisked away by security.

Throughout the evening, fans surrounded their favorite objects of desire, taking pictures, getting autographs, and at times touching the performer's breasts and other private parts. Man who touched the women inappropriately got slapped.

I introduce myself to numerous porners, hand them my card, and briefly explain my book. Because of the blaring rock music it's impossible to carry on sustained conversations.

I spot Dave Hardman and Rick Masters who greet me in a friendly way and ask that I use them again in my next production.

Margold takes the microphone and harangues the crowd with his worn soundbites. "If society won't admit they're jacking off, they shouldn't be surprised when Congress cuts off their dicks."

Porn girls (including Kim Chambers) come on stage and do strip shows.

Near the end of the sixth annual FOXE show, after midnight when most persons had left, the porn girls became raunchier. Two attractive performers put on the hottest show of the night. Until this point, I've never seen a strip show in my life. This one will be replayed endlessly in my mind for years to come.

I stand next to the stage with about 150 guys pawing at the air like wolves trying to touch the two women. I thought porno was a cute harmless sin. Yes, it doesn't live up to Biblical ideals of holy behavior, but it's really just a pink sweet candyland.

Ellison's vulgarity was an early wakeup call to the true nature of the porno beast. Bob says he's been around the industry for about 15 years and that he works extensively in mainstream as well (contributing to tabloids).

Another warning sign to me was Chuck Martino who I met at Yosef's Factory Home Video. A tall muscular Italian-American, Martino had an air of danger about him. People at Factory told me that he was dangerous. I was too intimidated to ask him for an interview.

Part of my reason for entering porn was to explore my own sexual fantasies but rapidly into my journey, I found my fantasies diminishing. While the previous year had been the wildest sexually for me in my life (about 20 sex partners), from now on I would grow far more conservative in my own behavior and views.

In 1995, I was basically libertarian in my domestic outlook. I thought government should get out of people's private lives. But the longer I stayed in porn, the more conservative I became, the more accepting of censorship and government regulation of private behavior. I had seen in pornographic movies and magazines my greatest fantasies enacted. But now that I'd arrived on the shooting sets of these fantasies, I experienced a welter of emotions that, over time, left me less sexually driven and less attracted to porn in particular and illicit sex in general.

My time on John's set was not without sexual turnons. I met Blake Mitchell, a busty Raquel Welch lookalike. We sat on a couch together as she waited to do her scene. Kyle Stone sat on a chair across from us.

I was low key and humble and tried to learn from everybody and everything around me. I did about five interviews, using up about 90 minutes of tape.

In March, Dick Nasty connects me to director Nic Cramer who invites me to a shoot in Woodland Hills. It's a rainy dreary day as I make the one hour drive from my home. I'm wearing my black suit as I walk up to the nice house.

Luke says: Mexico does not produce many, if any, porn movies. I have never heard of a porn movie industry in Mexico. I seriously doubt there is one. The slightest check with anyone who covers porn would've revealed that. Bryan McKim is dead on and the Philadelphia Daily News "reporter" Dana DiFilippois is out to lunch on this story.

BRIAN McKIM (editors@sheckymagazine.com) writes to MediaNews.org: Glad to see that Daily News "reporter" has collaborated with 'XTF News Operation Manager Joel Sanders to create an irresistible urban legend! Sanders statement, "TV news stations nationwide have been plagued by thieves who steal news cameras for use in the porn industry," was passed off as fact (and used in the subhead, at least in the .com version of the story). There was no follow-up on the claim and there was not even idle speculation as to whether the statement has ANY validity.

As an urban legend, however, it is headed for super- stardom! It has many of the elements: Sex! (porno) Exotica! (Mexico) Crime! (theft, sale of stolen goods) Money! (40 large) Virtual unverifiability! (apparently!) I give it another six weeks before we hear that "a Matamoros sheriff's deputy has uncovered a ring of snuff film makers who recorded their south-of-the-border productions using a $78,000 Ikigami camera stolen from a Pittsburgh television station..." I gotta go...I have an urban legend to perpetuate!

Fellow Philadelphia Daily News scribe Chris Brennan writes MediaNews.com: I am the Philadelphia Daily News reporter covering the negotiations between the transit agency and it's labor union. I was sitting about 10 feet from the camera when it was stolen from a crowd of reporters, photographers and camera operators. Immediately, the camera operators started talking about the thriving market for stolen television equipment. I don't know Brian McKim but, from his e-mail address, I was able to find out that he is the creator and editor of an online magazine about stand-up comedy. He also claims to have a degree in journalism from my alma mater, Temple University. I don't know why this guy feels the need to put "reporter" in quotes when writing about my colleague. His attack on her fine story sure read like a bad stand-up act. Heckle! Heckle! Heckle!

GERARD VANDERLEUN from Penthouse? writes MediaNews.com: Brennen's quicker than he should be (in the letter below) to try and bust the more than fair call by McKim that the story as printed has all the elements of urban legend. Looked at with a cold eye, the hook for the story -- PORN! MEXICAN PORN! -- is a statement from a station manager in Philadelphia to the effect that: "Most of the market is in porn movies in Mexico."

A reporter worthy of no quotes around the name might be expected to check this one out -- especially if the guy saying it is hunkered down in Pennsylvania. You can be damned sure that if the same statement showed up in the L.A. Times some editor might just ask for a bit of back-up in these sensitive times. And that the story would have had a "law-enforcement sources confirm that expensive cameras are smuggled into Mexico where they are used to pump huge amounts of porn into the San Fernando Valley on the backs of illegal aliens."

RJB Telcom Back In The News

From the BostonHerald.com: Gov. Paul Cellucci's 1998 campaign Web site - no longer under his control - has become entangled in a multimillion dollar Internet porno empire, with major search engines listing hundreds of smut links to the governor's former online address.

The online porn firm, Arizona-based RJB Telcom, Inc., yesterday claimed no knowledge of the links to www.cellucci98.org, which started shutting down following inquiries from the Herald. But such search tools as Excite, AltaVista and Metacrawler were still listing the governor's former Web address as a portal to the world of online hardcore.

A Herald review earlier this week found cellucci98.org linking directly from Excite and other search engines to ``Kara's Adult Playground'' - an RJB porn site. RJB lawyers, the Federal Trade Commission and even the firm that helped register cellucci98.org in Australia were baffled.

A lawyer for RJB said the firm has no connection to the Australian registrant of cellucci98.org. But he could not explain why the site was funneling traffic to its adult Web properties. ``My client never heard of them or dealt with them,'' said RJB attorney Bill Rothbard.

RJB Telcom runs a business encouraging Web entrepreneurs to market their adult sites through Internet links, but Rothbard could not say whether the Cellucci site owner is enrolled in the program.

RJB Telcom, founded in 1996, has consistently been in the top 25 among global Web portal providers, according to Nielsen/Net Ratings. As of last May, the firm's monthly revenues exceeded $6 million, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

But the company has also found trouble with regulators for allegedly engaging in the practice of ``cramming'' - billing unsuspecting customers for Web services they didn't use. The FTC has sued RJB to block the practice, but the firm continues to thrive.

Chicago Prostitution Busts

Chicago police said they have busted a North Side brothel [www.foxy-lady.net] where customers could have sex with $900-an-hour porno stars after making a date through a Web site.

Police seized about $11,000 along with computers and records Wednesday from an apartment building at 329 W. Armitage, across the street from the Park West club, said Lt. Adrienne Stanley, who runs the department's prostitution unit. William Schroedter, 60, was charged with pandering, a felony, she said. Chicago police make about 15 arrests a month of prostitutes who advertise on online escort services. But Schroedter's business was different because he operated a house of ill repute through a Web site, Stanley said.

"This Internet site was blatantly advertising prostitution," she said. "We learned they even ship girls here from other cities." Scantily clad women are shown on the Web site along with their rates, which climbed to $1,600 an hour for two nationally known porn stars at the same time, but were as low as $300 per hour. "Have you always dreamed of experiencing an erotic encounter with a real life centerfold?" an ad for one of the women teases.

Schroedter has a record of arranging sex-for-money dates going back to the 1980s, she said.

Chicago police Sgt. Michael Malone, who investigates Internet prostitution, said many New Economy hookers are different. They are "more classy, dress better and are a little bit more intelligent" than the rest, Malone said.

The real issue/problem here (love your insight on this) is over the last few years the sexual requirements for late night cable programs have doubled. My guess is the one that really pissed off the officials of Gwinnett County was the Beer Belly Brigadiers Getting Lucky. Sounds like someone had a hidden camera at the last county commission meeting and made a video out of it. Many of the above titles date all the way back to the 1980s. Mr Cornetta arranged for the release of his employees first, after they were all bonded out Mr. Cornetta secured his own release at about 9PM. Mr. Cornetta has vowed to fight the misdemeanor charge.
