Mike South is no Southern Gentleman

Well, unfortunately, once again I am obliged to take the pen from the hilt and slay yet another hot air breathing dragon. I have an eye for certain kinds of talents, and I could see that if a guy like Mike could get girls to have sex with him in the first place, yet alone put it on video, then I figured he had what it takes. We granted him something like knighthood in our kingdom by giving him responsibility for the series. Painstakingly, and with a great deal of coaching on our part, Mike slowly but surely improved. So much in his mind that he jumped ship and left us for greener pastures with Ed Powers.
Well that did not work out, so Mike came back to us, happily I might add, especially with the release of numerous titles, another whole series, and some AVN awards. But then of course, that still was not good enough so he left us again for Elegant Angel, got quickly booted, and he again then would have liked to come back. This reminded us of the timeless adage "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me", so we passed at the offer. Now of course Mike is no longer a Knight but more like a rogue mercenary who goes to the door of many companies, while in our kingdom we still have the same ultra low defect rate any dupe house would be proud of, and put out a quality product the legions of our loyal customers continue to enjoy year after year.
So I must apologize for Mike's lack of respect. I am surely to blame for the amount of press our wonderful publicist Stefanie generated on his behalf that has gone to his head, rendering him incapable of gratitude. If he were more gallant and chivalrous as a Southern Gentlemen ought to be, then I would not even have to respond.
Mike South replies: Hey Luke, a couple of corrections for Mr. Timlake.
1. I left Elegant. They didn't boot me.
2. HomeGrown actually did not put out my first movie.
Interestingly enough I never mentioned Homegrown in the post but it seems that Farrell recognizes himself. Now I like the guys at Homegrown and Farrell is dead on correct in that I learned much shooting for them. I am indeed appreciative for the opportunity I was given at Homegrown, but the bottom line was there came a time when it became important to me to actually make money, at that time the gig with Homegrown was up.
As you know Luke I am far from a "rogue" I have been with Center Stage Productions for over a year and I am quite happy there. My website www.mikesouth.com is doing extremely well, and new things are coming very soon.
Now maybe Farrell would like to point out what was incorrect about what I told you.
They did master my tapes to SVHS. They did duplicate in house, not at a professional duplicator. This allowed them to sell my tapes at prices as low as 2.50 per tape, and I still have to fight battles with distributors about this.
Now please note here that am not bashing Homegrown , they have a business model that works for them and I am and always have been appreciative of Farrell, Moffett, Stefanie and the other guys at Homegrown/Xplor, it was fun.

Sturgeon writes on RAME: Euro Dogs (Elegant Angel) - Great movie…I have a friend who works at the Justice Department. He keeps track on ongoing Interpol investigations in the United States. Because such investigations often involve activity originating in Europe, he also has access to certain investigations being conducted in Europe.
He relayed the following to me: Interpol Alert: Second to last scene involving two blondes takes place in a brothel on the outskirts of Budapest. She is clearly not enjoying the sex. Interpol has notified Hungarian authorities that they believe this brothel is controlled by members of the Russian Mafia. Interpol has confirmed that the blonde with the long hair was sold to a brothel owner after being lured to Hungary in April 1999 along with 3 other women from Ukraine. They were promised jobs at a hotel in Budapest. Efforts are being made to contact the makers/actors of this film to confirm the location of this brothel.
It is also believed that the thin brunette being double teamed from the front and rear in the final scene was also a prostitute at this small town brothel. There is no evidence to suggest she was sold into sexual servitude like the blonde in the previous scene. However, her age and willingness to submit to multiple anal penetrations at the actor's request suggests a pimp or "boss" was on the scene to ensure her compliance. In his latest report he received a list of adult movies currently available in the United States which showed young russian women who had been sold into sexual slavery in Hungary, the Czech Republic and eastern Germany performing various sex acts.

I think you have been reading to many fiction books. In my experience the Adult Industry in Hungary and the Czech Repulic has been both more professional and far better run then anything in the US. Pat Riley: Not on my copy it doesn't. The second to last scene (the penultimate) has Zenza and Reinhard driving in the country and arriving at a small town--we even see the name of the town but I'd have to pull the movie to name it--on the outskirts of which they visit what looks like a farmhouse. Certainly the room in which the sex takes place looks consistent with a farmhouse and not any sort of club. They screw Lonia and Lucy including an anal of at least one but due to inept camerawork it's not possible to tell which. Both girls are impassive and un-thrilled with the sex. (Not unusual in a Euro porn movie.)
The last scene also seems to take place in a farming environment but outside. The intrepid pair (actually the US doesn't have any stud as dangerous and unpleasant looking as Zenza; Reinhard is OK) share Martina (one of many but this one is quite cute) including a DP.
Of course you're right about this being lots of BS innuendo. One also wonders whether there's not something illegal about disclosing a report of an ongoing investigation. Maybe the original post was just a publicity stunt by Elegant Angel.

The word "pornography" is disturbing. This is obvious when the definitions available for the purpose of this discussion are examined. Many definitions of "pornography" are biased, inflammatory and do not accurately reflect the actual material currently available in the marketplace.
For example, Gloria Steinem's self-serving, "feminist" definition of pornography as found in our text, "[The subject of pornography is] domination and violence against women," is based on a spurious interpretation of the word's etymology. Other definitions in the text perpetuating this misinformation include "the objective of all pornography is the objectification and control of women…" and "pornography is not even about sex, per se, but rather the degradation of women and often children through sex."
An unbiased discussion cannot be held when the topic has been pre-defined to reflect a particular attitude toward it. A value-free definition of "pornography" more conducive to honest debate is "commercial, sexually-explicit media which portrays genitalia and/or sexual acts, both heterosexual and homosexual." (Homosexual pornography, as varied as heterosexual pornography and by definition excluding any portrayals of women, is beyond the purview of this paper.)
References to "pornography" are often made as if pornography were necessarily synonymous with "obscenity," which it is not. "Obscenity," an illegal type of sexually oriented speech which is not protected under the First Amendment, is determined through application of the three criteria of the Miller Test, based on the U.S. Supreme Court case Miller v. California (1973) (see Appendix). The key word in the Miller Test which allows us to differentiate pornography from obscenity is "prurient." "Prurient" does not mean "an interest in sex;" it means "an unhealthy interest in sex." Sex that damages one or more participants, emotionally or physically, is clearly unhealthy, and an interest in this type of sex is also unhealthy.
Pornography comes in flavors to suit all sexual tastes. An accurate term for sexually explicit material depicting the domination, objectification, and degradation of women for the satisfaction of men is "misogynistic pornography." Its opposite, "gynoerotic pornography," presents women as desirable companions who take pleasure in being mutual partners in sexual activity.
Is all pornography necessarily harmful, particularly to adult women? There are no studies showing this to be true. Many experts in the fields of sexology and psychology believe that viewing certain types of pornography can be extremely helpful to individuals, including women, who wish to stimulate and empower themselves toward a more fulfilling sexuality. (Strossen, 1995). Misogynistic pornography, in which women are deliberately humiliated, degraded and objectified, has not been studied separately. Common sense leads one to believe that viewers of misogynistic pornography will indeed learn behavior that is not only directly harmful to women but to also to their own ability to interact sexually with women in an mutually satisfying fashion.
Pornography is a capitalistic enterprise. The same market forces that fuel the rest of the economy drive commercial pornography producers. If there were no market for misogynistic pornography, it would cease to exist. That it does, and that misogyny is used to market pornography which is in actuality inoffensive if not egalitarian, points to the social problem of a large group of men who are gratified by a prurient approach to heterosexual relations.
For example, here is an excerpt from the ad copy for a videocassette called "Mature Women #23" (Channel 69 Video, 1998) in which this author appears:
"[Four female performers] spread their graying twats for hard cock. Older women make the best sperm dumps…fills the screen for a shameless lesson in f---ing. [These women] are hot little prickteasers who lost their morals years ago. Now they're living cumbags and the viewer is the winner. See them get what they deserve in superclose-up, rock hard action. The only thing these cunts are good for is taking a burning load on their f---ing faces! …Magnificent filth…"
The tape itself is straightforward consensual sex of various types with women in their thirties and forties; the ad copy is designed to appeal to misogynists with gerontophilia (the desire to have sex with an older person).
If misogynistic pornography exists because it is a commercially viable product, the real question becomes "Why are there enough misogynistic consumers to create a multi-billion dollar market for this type of pornography?"
Misogyny results from the devaluation of women as equal participants in society. Structural functionalism posits that women are naturally and biologically inferior to men, and that institutions such as organized religions, schools, political decision-making bodies and laws work best when they are designed to reinforce segregation based on sex. Women should be 'kept in their place." Carried over to an individual level, women's sexuality is perceived as inferior, and as such may be disregarded in favor of the superior male's preferences and desire to keep women "in their place," even in the context of an intimate relationship.
In a self-perpetuating cycle, men who adopt misogynistic attitudes toward sexuality as presented in misogynistic pornography have difficulty forming real-life relationships with women, who generally do not tolerate their behavior. This rejection reinforces the misogyny, returning men to pornographic representations of their fantasies, where their attitudes are once again supported and validated by the material.
Conversely, gynoerotic pornography presents sexuality as a life-affirming, positive experience for participants of both genders. Women involved in the production of pornography as producers and directors tend to make gynoerotic pornography by choice.
Toni English, hired by Vivid Video in 1995 as a videotape editor, has a college background in film production, ten years of documentary film experience and has directed an average of 16 movies a year for the last five years.
"At a personal level, what I like most about movies is context, actors who are believable, realistic scenarios, and realistic dialogue," English says. "I don't think that not having dialogue makes a sexy movie. That's because I'm a woman…Yet, I know that men just fixate on objects. I don't get it. I'm lucky to be with Vivid, which has a huge contract with Playboy [cable TV], which demands story. I don't have to fight with my producers to do what I want to do.
"I despise people like Max Hardcore and John T. Bone. They're misogynists and they're happy to tell you that. They don't think it's good pornography unless the woman is screaming in pain, hence every scene is anal."
Jane Hamilton, who performed and now directs under the name Veronica Hart, is also the head of production for VCA (one of the largest and the only adult video manufacturer remaining from the heyday of 1980's adult video).
Hamilton only works on movies that "love and respect women…but there's no way to separate (the rest of it) from what I do."
"Most women…do enjoy sex, but they need to be courted, with production value and romance. And there are also guys like that. I may be idealistic, but I want everyone to get off and be happy in my pictures. I don't want [sex] to be an act that's imposed on the woman but is enjoyed by the woman and sometimes initiated by the woman.
"I hate to get lumped in with the Rocco Siffredis and Max Hardcores. Women should be treated with respect - not slapped around, spat upon and dunked in toilets. I worry about my sons seeing videos like that. Would they think that's the way to treat women?"
If misogynistic pornography, and the attitudes toward women it presents and encourages, is indeed a societal problem, what can be done about it which does not invoke censorship in disregard of the First Amendment?
Firstly, careful attention paid to the semantics of definition would enable open, thoughtful discussion focused on the actual problem, that of the proliferation of misogynistic pornography, eliminating the call for censorship all sexually explicit material regardless of content but simply because it is heterosexual in nature.
Secondly, supporting the efforts of pornographers like English and Hart, by listening to what they have to say and reviewing their work, rather than using feminist rhetoric to condemn all pornography would help us learn to differentiate among the types of material.
Most importantly, selective local prosecution of prurient, misogynistic pornography would determine whether contemporary community standards are hostile or accepting of misogyny itself. I believe that they are not. Thus, pornography having a negative effect on attempts to improve the egalitarian status of women in society at large and specifically as sexual beings could be legally identified as obscenity and removed from the marketplace.

Jokes that offend the feminist sensibility ("How do you make a woman orgasm? - Who cares?") appeal, axiomatically, to the prurient interest. Unstated is the necessary conclusion that such jokes are obscene, and thus can be suppressed by the State. So what next, Janet Reno resuming the war against obscenity by breaking into the hard drives of those who tell jokes at the expense of lesbians or feminists? The fact is, many healthy Americans think such jokes are pretty funny, and a healthy society will tolerate such speech.
But feminists have not much tolerance for free speech. Neither do liberals. In fact, this is what it always comes down to among much of the liberal left ( a term I am using in its modern cultural sense only): "Mine is constitutionally protected speech, even if it involves smearing feces around a representation of the Virgin Mary. And if you have anything to say in response that I do not like, I demand that you be censored."

It is not her fault that she is of the gender that is subject to lunar variations of mood and periodic bouts of hysteria, correlated to the ancient tidal cycles of ovulation. Chaim, at your age, I'm surprised at your prematurity. "It" has to be sexually explicit to be prosecuted as obscenity -- jokes, however tasteless and stupid, are covered by the First Amendment. I'm the antithesis of a so-called "feminist" -- I do NOT believe that men's sexuality is automatically degrading etc. I do believe that men who can't enjoy sex without humiliating their partners are sick i.e., prurient. If they want to videotape their sick ideas and sell them on the open market, they risk prosecution, at least in those communities where such behavior is unacceptable.
Offending the "feminist" sensibility, or the Jewish sensibility, or the black sensibility with a stupid joke is so low-brow. If it is dangerous to the stability of the state for women to have orgasms, or for white women to chase after well hung African Americans, go get some statistics, instead of ranting like Dr. Pierce about ludicrous scenarios. No, a "healthy" American doesn't think jokes at the expense of women are funny, and a society which tolerates such speech is being very gracious when it looks the other way, then laughs in private at men who behaves like assholes toward women and then moan about not getting laid!
