He was a gem! l wish l told him how l felt, l wish l could tell him how much he was appreciated and how much l appreciated him. He was loved by so many people. We can`t just sweep this under the rug. Anyone with any information, please contact the authorities....and not just one detective, but a few. You never know these days if there is a detective on the wrong side.

Annabel Chong - Porno's Favorite Clown

Peter Hayes writes from London: Luke, Annabel Chong is getting a certain amount of mainstream attention here in Europe thanks to a film documentary about her life "Sex: The Annabel Chong Story". which opens this month. However when the film was imported for the annual Berlin Film market the makers reworded the tins to "The Annabel Chong Story" for fear of the customs - in a country that allows whipping, urination, (and beyond) this seemed a little over the top!

The Gough Lewis film uses the obvious twist/irony that Chong (nee Grace Quek) is very smart and yet works in a stupid business. However it might be suggested that the business is smarter than she is - the money that her films have made have not ended up in her pocket. Her famous 1995 gangbang - with 251 men - gave her nothing more than a sore vagina. I have not seen the film (which has played to packed festival audiences and is profiled in the serious film magazine Sight and Sound), but have heard her speak on a couple of sex related shows here in Europe and on the American HBO programme Real Sex.

Perhaps she comes across better on the page than in real life, where sentences end in mid air and words/events are redefined at will. She bounces up and down (in a childlike manner) when talking about something that excites her. Sex and adventure seem to play a major role in her life - preferably mixed together.

She claims to have been "gang raped," but when I heard her speak on TV about the incident she clearly said that she had agreed to have sex in some dirty back alley ("I like rough sex") - but after they had had taken her body they then took her money and processions. Robbery yes - rape no.

London is like any big city - there is plenty of weirdoes, drug addicts and petty criminals, but very few of them have any ability to disguise what they really are. The way she exploits the London tube incident show is an insult to real rape victims. They don't talk about what happened in bouncy excited language any more than they wander down dark alleys with the great unwashed.

She has a very male attitude to sex (something that has long been said of Madonna) and the worst of male sex at that - sex with an agenda. Sex that has nothing to do with fleeting pleasure or even lust. Eric Clapton once said about groupies that "they (groupies) didn't want to screw me, they wanted to screw my name." The orgasm coming from running out and telling someone about it.

Perhaps that is the central appeal of Annabel Chong, she comes across as a groupie to those that have neither the aptitude nor talent to pick up an electric guitar. A groupie for the common man, if you will.

Her college professors speak highly of her. "Her work is always very original and interesting," one told the HBO programme. But my test of intelligence is whether you would be happy to pay them to baby-sit the phone - with Annabel Chong the answer is a great big no. Her examiners might be impressed with her, but I fear they are in a minority. Every profession needs a clown and she is pornos.

Luke F-rd For Congress

George writes: Luke; What's this I see about you running for Congress and you plan to shut down the California porn business? How can this be. Isn't the porn industry how you make all your money? If they shut down what will you do for a living? And do you seriously think you will get elected?

I am a Canadian so I can't vote for you, are against you, but if it means shutting down the porn industry, I would vote against you. Besides, where would a poor schmuck like me get all his entertainment from? Get a grip Luke! There are people like me out there that need this kind of entertainment. And what's this I see about you love Dr. Laura? I bet you only love her because she sounds sexy on the radio and you have seen her pictures that were taken in another life when she was young and carefree. Now that she is famous and probably well off, I bet you don't really love her as much as you think you do. And since you aren't really Jewish, (or are you?), I bet she wouldn't even take a second look at you. Especially since you earn all your bread writing about the porn industry with all those nice pictures available on your web site. I think you better keep your day job Luke. At least this way you can make an honest living, sort of.

Campaign as a "Porn Czar" who would crack down on the flagrant abuses that the porn industry inflicts on it's consumers. Examples: the bogus numbers used to market gang bang videos (Houston 620? Try Houston 62!), the use of misleading box covers to dupe consumers (The box showed a hot young blonde, but the video featured senior citizen Nina Hartley!), mag pack fraud (three transsexual mags sandwiched between two back issues of Hustler for $19.99!), and finally the total banishment of Ron Jeremy from porn. Mary Millington

There hasn't really been a real sex star in Great Britain. It is a country that has always shunned hardcore pornography and preferred to keep the subject under covers and behind closed doors. The longest running farce on the London stage was - tellingly - called "No Sex Please We're British."

(A tale of chaos caused when a delivery of dirty books is wrongly delivered to a bank. It was later turned in to a little-seen film.)

The only exception to the above is Mary Millington whose rose briefly to the top, found it all too much, and killed herself while still in her early thirties. Yet she is not ammunition for the anti-pornography brigade in the UK - she was a radical opponent of the infamous "Obscene Publication Act."

She was tailor made for the British tabloid press - blonde, sexy, open and controversial. The kind of the girl of which anything could be said and have some air of believability. Many of her problems had nothing to do with the sex business and she probably would have had legal problems if she had remained in her former profession - that of a low paid veterinary nurse.

(She often said that her pets were her only real friends and she left her estate to animal welfare groups.)

The story is cliched, but true. She was discovered at a bus stop by a photographer (who we will leave unnamed here) who took the "step ladder" approach by offering her teenage fashion work. Naturally he knew that the big money was in stroke photographs that sold by the thousand in the back streets of Soho.

At under five foot Millington was not ideal fodder for fashion. Slim, small breasted with a natural smile Millington was soon in demand for photographers all over London. However she soon became over exposed and resorted to ever more extreme photographs - occasionally using household objects - which was about as far as even the most adventurous photographer would go unless they had contacts overseas.

Soon she was making short, scriptless stag films which either featured solo masturbation or real sex, but without close ups. Whether this was for self-censorship reasons or whether the cameraman was simply too lazy to move the camera is not known. In the pre video seventies these 8 mm loops have rarely been seen. A UK documentary on the life of MM shows they followed very predictable patterns.

The next important man in her life was David Sullivan who became a genuine friend and confidant, as well as a sexual and business partner. Publisher Sullivan made his money by walking the unpainted white line of British censorship - occasionally slipping and falling. A man with little personal charm he is known by friends and foe alike as "the slug." However few would begrudge him his ambition and nerve - defending himself on television and even launching the national newspapers The Sport and The Sunday Sport which are the last word in UK yellow journalism.

With MM as something of a underground star he backed her in a film called "Come Play With Me" which was aimed at normal cinemas and was the mix of daft plot, soft sex and comedy. This barely watchable film broke box office records and set up poor Mary as Britain's Number One Sex Star.

A series of cheap follow-ups were quickly ordered which required little more than to disrobe. In one film she is asked - in role - whether she can act "well I open my mouth a words come out don't they?" Through the films she came across as natural, gentle and fun. The girl next door type rather than a nymphomaniac. Her real life bisexuality occasionally showing through.

Even quoting from her close friends Mary had a schizophrenic lifestyle. A self admitted kleptomaniac she would steal anything that wasn't nailed down and often stole things that she had no immediate need for. Simon Sheridan, a friend and occasional co-star, claims she would work over Oxford Street in London - walking out of stores with items large and small. It was shop lifting for kicks rather than for profit. Unsubtle she was caught many times.

MM never found a real partner in life and drifted apart from Sullivan and, it has to be said, good sense. She had a sex shop in London and to make extra money she sold under-the-counter hardcore porn. She said that cashing-up at the end of the day "was better than sex."

It was alleged that she was also a high price prostitute, a professional party thrower (sic) and occasional desperation drug trafficker. She got hooked on cocaine that was rare and high priced in London - Sullivan later blamed her jet-set friends for getting her started.

By 1979 she was facing problems on a number of fronts. Deserted by her friends and facing tax, theft and obscenity charges on top of a drug habit she took the easy way out. She spoke on the phone to her agent the night before her suicide and seemed matter-of-fact about her predicament and her chosen solution. "I'll speak to you tomorrow," her agent had said. "There will be no tomorrow...." was her chilling reply. There wasn't.

Sullivan took advantage of her death to launch a series of "tribute" magazines and even funded a short film where he used her death to promote his own cause, "it is more like Russia than the United Kingdom today" the multimillionaire said to camera.

Twenty years later Simon Sheridan wrote a book about her life. I include an unabridged version of the press release below.

Pat Riley

Thom Burr writes on RAME: I've always found that Mr. Riley's reviews among the best precisely because he is so critical and demanding. If Patrick Riley reports that a girl as pretty or cute, you will find that she appears as reported. Feminine flaws that he cites are typical of things that annoy most or at least some men. His brusque, just-the-facts reporting style can come across as cruel or even misogynistic, but he's simply looking at things more objectively than most, and objectivity is a rare quality in porn. At the same time, he is very clear about his subjective criteria and views. Perhaps this is why he doesn't use stars--when you read one of his reviews, you should be able to figure out whether or not the vid would appeal to you personally. As reference/buying guides I find his books very useful. If you want to to find a particular girl in a pre-implant state doing an interracial anal scene, Riley's reviews are will be able to clue you into where to find what your looking for, and give a rough impression about the quality of the product. The IAFD and newer comprehensive on-line reviewers are beginning to supplant his books, but his work is still some of the best out there-- though not for the faint of heart or the overly sensitive.

Torris: I agree. He says so much with so few words in his reviews that you can really pick up what you need about whether a particular movie is worth further investigation. It really cuts through most of the crud that is out there, even when I disagree with him about a starlet his willingness to describe the girls attributes in a passionless way is very helpful.

Laura writes: Responding to Thom Burr on Pat Riley citing so-called "feminine flaws" in his film reviews, Pat Riley indeed is cruel and misogynistic, as is Thom Burr. Does either of these two low-life's, Thom Burr or Pat Riley think they look so hot that they can set up such high standards of physical perfection for women whether in porn or elsewhere? Chaim writes Marc Weisblot of RadioDigest.com: For the moment, I will accept your semitic bona fides. You mention that you write about popular music for the Voice. Other than an interest in MP3, I have no particular interest in the field and find most of the commentary on it to be pointless overkill. Well, that is not why I am writing. I am writing to do a yid a favor by suggesting a story that no one else has done. But it concerns neither porn nor rock. In a recent email, I suggested that those topics that were least likely to be discussed on television here dealt with areas that were potentially embarrassing to the jews, and I listed a few. But I forgot to list one that really has been gnawing at me for the last few years.

You may be aware of the periodic efforts of certain hassidic groups to establish their own public school districts in New York state, for the very clear purpose of obtaining public funds with which to take care of their handicapped children. And that is the extent to which the press has reported this story, as a simple battle of church (in this case shul) versus state, with the state the winner (so far). Now, I always found this to be a bit curious, for these same groups are ferociously resistant to sending their non-handicapped children into the maw of the public schools. Why then would they be so desperate to do this for the presumably few handicapped children in their midst?

This suggests another, unreported side to this, one regarding which I have only anecdotal evidence from some of the less religious jews and gentiles whom I have known who have lived in proximity to these groups. What I have heard is that these folks are desperate to obtain such support because they have MANY handicapped children among them, and not just because they have many children to begin with, owing to their high birth rates. I do not know much about these groups, but what I do know suggests that there may be a real problem with inbreeding among them. Generally speaking, these groups began in North America with very small remnant populations that survived the holocaust. They have not attracted much new blood from outsiders, even from other jews. Instead, Satmars marry other Satmars, Munkatabors marry other Munkatabors etc. Also, the few times I have seen news stories about this or that Grand Rabbi's grandson's or granddaughters wedding, it has often turned out that the bride and groom are first or second cousins to each other. This is the classic set-up for a population with heavy genetic disease. Might this explain the (apparent) heavy need for publicly subsidized special education amongst a population that otherwise eschews public schools?

The AOL message boards have not addressed this head on, but I have seen messages from care givers who damn the orthodox for abandoning their handicapped kids in institutions and never acknowledging their presence, for fear that were their communities to become aware of genetic illness in their family, that it would become that much harder for them to make a suitable match for their children.

To be fair, I do not know that these populations have more genetic ailments or rising rates of birth defects than any other group. Everything I have said is purely anecdotal. But there is at least the suggestion of such a problem. And it is a problem that eugenics-conscious jews (that's what it is, when the parents make a match for their young and worry about such things) may be trying to sweep under the rug. Would it not be better for all concerned if this issue were investigated, and given a public airing if found by an investigative journalist to be a real problem? Sure, this is not as sexy as that rock and roll music you get to cover (do journalists get groupies?), but I think there may be a worthwhile story in here.

How do these folks find out what you do, do you tell them, or are you ratted out? Why not get around this problem by taking your picture down from the web site and changing your name. Roy Shaft writes Luke and Gene: As some of your readers already know, I have been experiencing health problems for some time now; this is just a note to respond to all the inquiries as to why I've been unreachable for the last two months or so...For the last few months, I have been experiencing problems with my right lung and was recently diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and bronchitis; as such, I decided to return home to Northern CA to be closer to my family and regain my health. She determined that these women actually have an arrested, undeveloped relationship to their own clitorises, and have even failed to cathect(i.e., psychologically own) their own vaginas:

"Although in their sexual games the pre-treatment women often stimulated each other clitorally and supposedly reached heights of ecstacy, the psychoanalytic analysis showed that the clitoris had been included in the lack of cathexis(psychological ownership). Delilah became aware of a "DEAD SPOT WHERE MY VAGINA SHOULD BE" during heterosexual intercourse and DISCOVERED both clitoris and vaginal sensations during masturbation only AFTER a transference(with the therapist) had been established. Carla discovered A SIMILAR DEAD SPOT, WHICH INCLUDED THE CLITORIS. Serena also felt her VAGINAL AND CLITORAL ANESTHESIAS(absence of feeling) in the transference during regressive states."

It happened automatically and entirely on its own, as their arrested psychosexual development naturally completed itself, once these women had successfully identified with Dr. Siegel as a strong heterosexual mother. The accounts of rough sex and one-sided sex between bi/lesbians are similarly shocking and are also highlighted in Dr. Siegel's book. The mythology is that lesbians are more sensitive and caring in their sex, whereas in fact many bi/lesbian relationships are just as physically abusive as, and even based on, models of previous violent relationships with men.

THIS DISCUSSION IS HIGHLY RELEVANT TO THE SEX INDUSTRY BECAUSE BI/LESBIANISM IS THE BASIS FOR THE SEX INDUSTRY. PREDOMINANTLY ALL WOMEN OF THE SEX INDUSTRY ARE BI/LESBIANS.

As bi/lesbians, they have NO INVESTMENT IN HETEROSEXUAL SOCIETY. Heterosexual society is based on STABLE RELATIONSHIPS that permit childrearing. That's why you won't find heterosexual women in the sex industry: their raison d'etre and biological imperative is to find A MAN CAPABLE OF A STABLE RELATIONSHIP FOR CHILDBEARING.
