The Spiritual Seeker

I appeared on KRLA Sunday night, 1110 AM in Los Angeles, with AVN's Mark Kernes on the Michael Levine show "The Spiritual Seeker," modeled somewhat on Dennis Prager's show on KABC radio "Religion on the Line."

For two hours, I roundly denounced the evils of pornography. But come Monday night, when I realized that I had a severe cash flow problem, it took me an hour to fill my site with ads for porn websites. I've sold out for filthy lucre.

Will Jarvis aka Taliesin of paganpleasures.com phoned in Sunday night to the radio show and he files this report: "I want to congratulate AVN editor Mark Kernes on a splendid job of promoting a sane point of view regarding pornography in the face of the verbal attacks he faced on "The Spiritual Seeker" radio show last night (Sunday, Feb. 6). Mark is well informed and can (usually) speak in (good) sound bites that drive home his points. He's done other speaking engagements including some national television news programs, and is always prepared to go the distance with anyone. On the porn side also were Nina Hartley by telephone and (in studio I think) Sam Philips, a former Penthouse model [6/93] who now hosts a radio show of her own in Los Angeles on KLSX (same station that has the Ed Powers show on which I was a guest recently). Nina tried to stay focused on the spiritual, and did a fine job of supporting the position that sexuality could be spiritual, or at least that expressions of sexuality didn't necessarily contradict expressions of spirituality. Sam was more hedonistically direct, but did well as well.

"Unfortunately Luke F-rd, representing the opposition, taking an anti-porn stance, did very well. The man is sharp; give him credit for that, even if he does seem to interject non-sequiturs into every other sentence he speaks. The other guests from the opposition did the usual rambling about sin and adultery and promiscuity, and added little to the debate, nothing constructive that I could tell anyway. The show's host, Michael Levine, was reasonably balanced in his questioning, and over all it was a good show. If anyone on our side was a let down it was me. I called in (I guess a little too early), and wasn't prepared when I was put on as the first caller. I thought there would be more debate from the in-studio guests first which would have given me something on which to comment. Fortunately, being so early in the show, most of what I mumbled would have been forgotten by the listeners in light of more lucid comments later by the guests on both sides. I'm usually better prepared, but as someone once said, That's the biz, sweetheart."

Kernes writes to Gene Ross: "In retrospect, I probably should have realized something wrong when the show's moderator, Michael Levine, greeted porn gossip columnist Luke F-rd, the other in-studio guest, by name and with a hearty handshake. And as we were walking back to the studio, I overheard a piece of conversation that revealed that Ford and Levine had discussed his appearance previously, whereas I was going in completely cold - not that that's a problem, but it should have clued me in that I was not to be the favorite son. And actually, the very name of the show should have put me on guard that this would not be anything resembling an open debate."

Luke: I arrived at the station at 7:40 PM. I've been there four times previously (twice on Ed Powers, where I went up against Kernes, and once against Gene Ross, and twice on Conway and Steckler), at least on the sister station, FM97.1, KLSX. Michael Levine opened the door, and that, dear Mark, was the first time we had any communication. So when you write that Levine and I had discussed my appearance previously, it was ten minutes previously. Though we did find out then that we were both Dennis Prager fans.

An assistant on the show, however, Richard Borys, who helped book the guests, attends my syngagogue. He asked me on the show January 30th. From our conversations over lunch at shul, he believed that I would primarily defend pornography. I replied via email that they should get someone else to do that, as I was more hostile to porn.

I find it impossible to simply sum up my position on porn. But when the media asks for a simply thumbs up or down, I usually give them the opposite of what they want or expect from me.

Shortly before we entered the studio, the show producer took me aside after glancing at my book and said that I was brought on the show as an opponent of pornography and could I please play that role to the hilt. I agreed.

Gene Ross provides an excellent summary of the show. Here's an excerpt: "The problem is that sex in every organized, monotheistic religion is to be kept for marriage," Ford said. "What is wrong is that all of those religions condemn it." Levine said he didn't know of any biblical passage that condemns strip clubs, what would be the spiritual basis for doing so.

"Religion articulates that we have a choice," Ford said, "that we can act in a Godly-way or we can act in our own way. The Godly-way has some definitions among them in that sex and eroticism is to be saved for marriage; another is that we don't live for our own pleasures. There are higher values than our own satisfactions; that we do not lead selfish lives with all of life as a gift including sexuality."

Ed Powers radio show on KRLA's sister station KLSX FM 97.1 now runs from 11PM to 3AM on Friday and Saturday nights.

Houston will go on the Howard Stern show February 28 with her friend Kevin Blatt, director of marketing for YNOT. They will promote the live webcast of Houston's labia surgery in mid April.

Emmett: "Why is Houston gettting labia surgery? What is she trying to fix that doesn't need any fixing? No matter how minor a surgery can be their is always risks. I just don't understand why she's doing it."

Houston will also be giving some loser an on-air massage.

YNOTnetwork.com is furiously busy with the crumbling on Netpond last week.

Porner: "What UU.net did to Joe Elkin was wrong. We support JoeE 100%. Love him or hate him, he's a leading figure in the porn web and he will be around a long time. He does $250,000 worth of business a month. A lot of people bash JoeE and think he's a cocky sonofabitch but the bottom line is that the guy is proven. You can afford to have a huge ego if you're making the kind of money he's making."

Joe Elkin writes from Washington DC: "CEN is going to a public pier FROM uunet and it CANNOT be blocked. 1 more day of hell."

Luke spent Saturday night partying with some writers for Harpers and employees of the Santa Monica public radio station KCRW. Hymie the Jew writes me: "Thank you, man, you were the hit of the party. After you left, everyone was saying how much fun you were. Our one friend, Bob, was really sad. He had been there all the time--a tall guy with a goatee--and when he heard you had been there he was just screaming "f---, f---, I was that close to Luke F-rd and I didn't know it. Luke F-rd is my hero." He goes on your site everyday and is a huge fan."

Brandy Alexandre writes: "On Sunday night, Gamelink forwarded this email to me. Apparently, XXX STILL has been unable to find a life. After she tried to tamper with my utilities, only to find out that I was forewarned and added passwords to all my accounts, she reverted to her old, tired game of making false complaints to providers and sponsors. Of course, they know all about her, too, and get the giggles every time she tries. The thing that upsets them is the highly unprofessional web hosts who don't do anything about it.

"This kind of bulls--- is why mature and professional organizations like UU.NET regularly cut off porn sites. Porners traditionally allow spam (of which I get plenty off the UU.NET backbone and report every single piece) and either do not set policies of behavior, or do not enforce them because of the "good ole boy" or "free speech" attitudes, or petty grievances against legitimate victims with valid claims of abuse (referring precisely to NIX.NET who continues to do nothing about XX's psychotic, anti-social behavior). I hate to say it, but I support UU.NET's decision not to deal with certain porners anymore. If others get caught in the fallout, it's only a statement of "you are the company you keep"--guilt by association. Select your uplines more wisely, examine their abuse policies, and make sure that complaints against them are quickly and appropriately remedied. Otherwise you will be caught in this sort of mess.

"It's sort of like how people are coming to see PsT. With people like XXX involved, they see XX play these childish games, and see that she is embraced by PsT regardless of it, so all PsTers must be just like her (and most are). If that's not the reputation they like to have, they need to say shape up, shut up, or get out. UU.NET opted to go straight for "get out." If their policies were not adhered to--if their downlines refused to set policies and control activity--they deserve it."

Greg Dark On MTV

Jeff writes on RAME: So I'm up late the other night flipping around and I land on MTV's "Making the Video" documentary series. This week (or I guess it was last week) they were focussing on 15 year old Mandy Moore's new video... directed by Greg Dark. Wow, did worlds collide there for me. I always understood Dark's work with the urban rap groups or the metal bands -- all of whom seemed to be trading off of his porn cred a little bit... but Mandy Moore, a bubblegum teenybopper, seemed somewhat out of whack. I spent most of the episode (when I wasn't flipping around... I couldn't care less about Mandy, I was interested in Greg) laughing at the idea that Greg would be putting a guy in a dog mask somewhere on the set; or a clown. At one point Greg tells Mandy she may have to kiss the young male model (coverboy from some catalog) and she gets all squealy and "ooh, ick!" about the whole thing... so in my mind Greg then followed it up with "Or he can just f--- you in the ass, slap you with a trout and cum on your cheek.. if that's better for you. Whatever makes you comfortable." I never bothered to watch the rest of the show after that point as it was so late at night, I should have called it early in morning, and I really needed some sleep.

James Fortune Dies

Luke and Gene Ross received a fraudulent email using talent manager DK's email address which claimed that James Fortune was dead. DK clarified to Gene Ross: "I'm very disappointed that James Fortune would send out an email from my email address, giving the impression that these are my words about what happened... He is not dead, physically... James tends to get overzealous and melodramatic about things when he makes a decision. He met this wonderful Christian girl..."

Here is the fraudulent email: With deep sorrow, I regret to inform you that my dear friend and business associate, adult actor/director/producer James Fortune, is dead. Mr. Fortune was a rising star in the adult entertainment community and will be greatly missed by those who had the opportunity to interact with him.

His family did not specify the nature of his death (accident, mafia, intentional disappearance?) nor invited anyone in the industry to his funeral. We can only speculate at this time. I will pass on any info. as I receive it. Wagner, Fortune's business partner, has his diary, which we are reviewing and will pass onto media when we get a better understanding of what's going on....we've looked everywhere for the tapes and can't find them and assume they have been destroyed...Wagner is doing a search with his friends, the editorial bay, the safe, his car, and the garbage bins at his apartment in hopes of retrieving them to release to the public.

Mr. Fortune was born in Santa Monica, CA and lived in numerous states and countries, including Brazil and Mexico. Before becoming an actor and director, Fortune was a corporate executive and management consultant for various Big 5 accounting firms. He studied film at Berkeley and was an actor in 10,000 Maniacs MTV video "Cherry Tree" and produced an award-winning Cable Access series on Brazil.

Fortune was introduced to the industry by Ashlyn Gere, Nina Hartley and Nikki Dial. He began his career as a last-minute banger in the Houston 500. Interviewed by Ron Jeremy, he indicated "he just came for the food", but decided to jump in. This was followed by being cast in a feature by Buck Adams as a bank robber in the just released Babewatch 9 and 10 films. James went on to produce, direct and act in his own films, producing over ten scenes in the last 5 months with Kurious, Elle Divyne, Bee Spanx, Jennifer Leigh, Bobbi Bliss, Julianna Sterling, and a bunch of new girls including Southern Cumfort (aka Mercedes) and Dawn Jade. He was also writing potential screenplays for Nic Cramer, including Biovengeance, a futuristic James Bond/X-Files film with Bonita Saint requested for the lead role. Fortune's acting and directing style was unique, a combination of Jim Carrey and Randy West on testosterone, as he f---s 4-5 (oftentimes new) girls at the same time. His series was to include multiple orgy scenes with new girls in each box.

Before his 'death', he was in the process of filming a Virtual Sex series with Elizabeth X and Julianna Sterling and was writing a screenplay called "Being Brian Surewood", a x-rated spoof of "Being John Malcovich." Sadly, all his films were destroyed with his death; only remnants will be aired on a few of the Playboy Channel's Naughty Amateur Videos starting next month. His humor, passion, creativity, and desire to elevate social awareness regarding std prevention and detection will be the legacy he left behind.

CEN Goes To Court Vs UU.Net

The dominant backbone supplier of the internet, UU.net owned by MCI which controls about 30% of the internet pipes, cut off CEN (Cyber Entertainment Network), a two million dollar a year customer, on January 27. As a result, CEN's experiencing financial losses of around $100,000 a day.

Mike South writes: "Hey Luke, As you know I have a site: www.mikesouth.com. That site was adversely affected by UUnet's reckless disregard for the internet world. On Saturday, my site went down because of UUNet blocking the TriStar DNS servers. If UUNet has a problem with CEN or anyone else they should take that problem and settle in a court of law. They should not arbitrarily take actions that adversly affect other businesses. It is like a landlord evicting all the tennats of all its properties because one tennant is playing his stereo too loud. I want to urge other webmasters who were hit on Saturday to consider a class action lawsuit naming UUNet as a defendant, The actions taken against CEN, TriStar and others were negligent and predatory. I know I will join in such a lawsuit."

Steve writes: "Hey Luke, just to inform you, this is not the first time MCI did this s---. In 1990, I had a 900 service where MCI was the primary server at that time they were experimenting with areas that they couldn't collect money from. As a result they had to charge back all calls made from those areas. It forced my service bureau to go belly up and I left the 900 business with people owing me over 1/4 million. Well MCI does it again, they think they are too big maybe someone else should step in and take over."

Luke received this telephone message from CEN owner Joe Elkin, one of porn's leading webmasters, at 12:17 PST Sunday afternoon: "Luke F-rd, JoeE, Cyber Entertainment Network. Myself and my partner [JB are] in Washington, DC... UU.net [owned by MCI], maliciously turned us off [stopped serving CEN to the internet] and is following us around the backbone, blocking our IPs. We're going to fight Worldcom, MCI Sprint and UUNet on Monday with a court injunction. A big story. It's probably going to hit the press... We're meeting with one of the producers for Hard Copy, one of the producers for CNN Headline News, this afternoon. You might want to print it first. They're [UUNet] are trying to extort us. We got a letter from them saying that we have to their exclusive provider or they're going to follow us around the internet and shut us off. We've got a big big case coming here. It's probably going to be a precedent as far as court cases are concerned on the internet. Who's got the power? The people or those who can shut them off for no reason at all. Give me a call..."

JD: "So they got in contact with "Hard Copy"...funny...they've been off the air and canceled for over a year. Ring...Ring...that call ain't getting forwarded."

Luke talked by phone to Joe Elkin and his partner John Bennett Sunday at 4PM.

JB: "We had a webmaster that got mad at us because we remarked his webmaster priviliges [as a reseller of CEN] because he'd sent out unsolicited email [spam]. So when we sent him the attorney letter, he spammed the newsgroups. UU.net got ticked off at that. They have something called the BI Index which goes into the newsgroups to see if your name is [spammed] in the newsgroups so many times, they don't like that.

"When this guy started sending this mail into the newsgroups [spammed], we contacted Earthlink which didn't get back to us. Meanwhile, he's bombing out these mails.

"UU.net called us up last Thursday at 6:15 PM (EST) and says 'Take privategold[.com] off our network."

"We said, 'Why, what's the problem?" They said, 'You're spamming.' I said, 'I'm not spamming. There maybe a reseller that's spamming but we're trying to block him now. We're having a hard time with Earthlink cutting him off... We've already put up the AUP page.' And their response to me was 'We don't give a damn. That's your problem and you need to get PrivateGold off our network. How fast can you do that?'

"I said, 'Give me until Monday morning.' They said, 'That's not good enough. We want you off our network by 7PM [45 minutes from the time of the conversation] or we're going to block it. So we took it off their network and put it with another carrier. They immediately went to that carrier and blocked it. We moved to another carrier, PacBell, and they went over there and tried to block it.

"Then a salesman [from UU.net] called me up and said, 'Listen, this is what you guys need to do to get turned back on. You've got an outstanding invoice, get that taken care of. You've been getting some complaints [about spam?] every month. Get those down. Follow our Acceptable Use Policy, which is just one paragraph. It's basically bulls---. Basically they can shut off anybody for any reason. That's the bottom line."

A visit to UU.net (http://www.us.uu.net/support/usepolicy/) yielded this customer service policy:

"Transmission, distribution or storage of any material in violation of any applicable law or regulation is prohibited. This includes, without limitation, material protected by copyright, trademark, trade secret or other intellectual property right used without proper authorization, and material that is obscene, defamatory, constitutes an illegal threat, or violates export control laws...

"Interference with service to any user, host or network including, without limitation, mailbombing, flooding, deliberate attempts to overload a system and broadcast attacks. Forging of any TCP-IP packet header or any part of the header information in an email or a newsgroup posting. Email Sending unsolicited mail messages, including, without limitation, commercial advertising and informational announcements, is explicitly prohibited. A user shall not use another site's mail server to relay mail without the express permission of the site. Usenet Posting the same or similar message to one or more newsgroups (excessive cross-posting or multiple-posting, also known as "SPAM") is explicitly prohibited.."

John Bennett, owner of CEN, told Luke: "Then the fourth condition from UU.net was that we exclusively sign a contract with UU.net for all our bandwidth and hosting needs. So basically they tried to extort us.

"So the salesman called me back up on Friday and said, 'Now you've really done it. Now you're playing by our f---ing rules. You better start signing some contracts in a hurry.' So I said, 'Listen, I told you guys that I would come back but it is not quite that simple. I've got to move equipment and do all kinds of stuff. Give me a little time.' That wasn't good enough for 'em. They've been making our lives hell.

"They fired off a letter to Above.net that we were in violation. I faxed a letter to Above.net that they [UU.net] were extorting me, telling me to come back to them. And Above.net immediately turned us on. When that happened, UU.net went out to the whole world and told the whole world that those were there IPs and they weren't resolving. So Above.net contacted them right away and said, 'This is bulls---. Those are our IPs. They are controlled by us.'

"Then UU.net went to TriStar [stock symbol INIT], which is where our DNS servers were at, and blocked TriStar's servers for six hours. They shut down 35,000 IPs and 6,000 customers for six hours. They only turned them back after TriStar agreed to take all of our IP numbers out of their domain names. All of our IPs. Not just the domain names that they claimed they had a problem with in the newsgroups but all of our IPs they blocked.

"It's really unbelievable... It'd be like if someone went into your house and made an obscene phone call and the phone company got pissed off and now because of it you couldn't make a long distance call. That's how bad it's gotten. So me and Joe Elkin are up in Washington DC to meet with attorneys and then go meet with UU.net. It's really bad."

Luke: "How can they prevent you from going to another server?"

JB: "Technically they can't if we're not on their backbone but what happens Luke is that everybody has to peer with UU.net which is about 30% of the internet. Let's say you're not directly on their backbone but to get to them you have to go across their network, at that particular location they just block my IPs [internet addresses aka websites]. So they just blocked my IPs at that network junction. So that means if you have to go across UU.net's backbone, you can't hit my sites. It's like if you're in California trying to make a call to Washington, you may start out with a California telephone company but by the time you're here, you're on AT&T. So AT&T would just block you when you got to that California point.

"So I can go to another server but the problem is that UU.net controls about 30% of the bandwidth. So even if I go to another facility, they still block 30% of all my business.

"So we've hired three different legal firms to try to resolve this. I'm here with JoeE to see if we can go in there [UU.net] and say, 'Guys, what's the problem here?'

"I think this has far reaching implications because they're trying to do the merger with Sprint and Worldcom and I think this is going to become a DOJ (Department of Justice) issue. For them to extort us and say we have to go back to them or we're not going to get turned back on... And now everywhere I try to go, they're trying to block me."

Luke: "What does 'redundancy' mean?"

JB: "Redundancy means that if one of your backbones goes down, you pick up another one. So if you're not on UU.net, you're somewhere else. But that doesn't help if UU.net null routes your IPs. It's fine if you're on UU.net's upstream, which means that you are using their bandwidth to go across the internet, and they go down and you pick up somebody else and that's fine... But they control so much of the pipe that people have to peer with them all over the place that you can't go around them. Thirty percent of my customers, even if I am not on their upstream, still can't hit me.

"I don't know what kind of anti-trust actions there are... I don't think a lot of this stuff has been tested yet in the courts... If this were telecommunications, it would definitely be illegal. I've got a letter from UU.net, basically their extortion letter, telling me that I have to go back to them or they're going to continue to enforce their AUP (Acceptable Use Policy). Which is just one paragraph. They can shut off anybody in the whole world. They have no written procedures. They have nothing. In my opinion, their security department is running their business.

"Their security department is the one that makes these procedures [AUPs] and calls you up from out the blue and says 'We want you off our network.' They don't call you up and say, 'Hey, you guys have a problem here. You need to address this right away.' They just call you up and say, 'Get off our network.' Even if you tell them that we're doing everything in our power... Then they tell you 'Change your business model.' Well, I can't change my business model because I'd go out business. I have resellers just like Amazon[.com] does. You mean that Amazon hasn't had someone get pissed off and spam newsgroups? Of course they have. Everybody's had a problem with it."

Luke: "Have you guys condoned spam in the past?"

JB: "No, no, no... We've never condoned spam. Everybody is against spam. It doesn't do any good for my business. I don't want it and I don't allow it. We have a zero tolerance for spam. We cut this guy off because he sent out some mailings [spam]. Our procedure is that as soon as we have a resellers who sends mailings and we find out about it, a letter goes out from my attorney to that particular reseller telling him that if he does it again, we're going to sue him. It also goes to UU.net's security department and AOL's security department, letting them know that we've terminated this account. This guy got that letter, got pissed off and started spamming the newsgroups. Even after I explained that to UU.net, they said we don't care...

"I think the security department then recognized that they had screwed up because I had moved all my businesses... Now they're trying to extort me to move back to UU.net exclusively... I may be forced to move back to UU.net. I'm going there tomorrow to see what I can resolve. I have to stay in business..."

Luke: "How much is this costing you?"

JB: "It's costing $100,000 a day. Plus we might have a problem with our merchant processing agreement now because so many people are charging back because they can't hit the sites. Our sites have been down about 50% of the time since January 27. They've been down almost all weekend."

Luke: "What are your lawyers telling you?"

JB: "Our lawyers are telling us that it is hard to fight the 800-pound gorilla. Stay in business and do what you have to do... If we have to go over there and bow down, and tell them, 'Hey, we will do whatever you guys want,' to stay in business, that's what we will do. I can't fight these guys. They're too big for me.

"There's a thing going on right now with the Justice Department about the merger with MCI and Worldcom. And people are saying, 'Don't let it happen because they'll own too much of the backbone. And this just goes to prove that if they get control of too much of the backbone, look at the damage they will do. If they can do this to little Cyber Entertainment, imagine what they can do to other people?

"It's f---ed up Luke. Imagine if someone came to your house tomorrow and said 'We're locking you out of your house because someone ran over your lawn and trashed it.' We're going to lock you up now. And you say, 'Well, it wasn't me. We'll try to correct it.' We don't care. We're going to lock you out of your house now and not let you get in. That's what they've done.

"Apparently they've done this to a few other people but I don't know if they've been quite as vindictive. In my particular case, I think they are going to hide behind this Acceptable Use Policy which says nothing...No warnings, no written notices...

"I had a conference call with [UU.net's] director of security and his underling on Monday night. And I told them that we're willing to do whatever they want us to do. We don't want unsolicited mailings... It is strictly against all our policies. And basically their attitude is, we don't care.

"This has probably cost us over a million dollars by now... It is very serious. They don't understand the far-reaching implications of them shutting down our whole network.

"It is pretty bad, Luke. To know that you can be in business today and someone can flip a switch tomorrow that you didn't cause and you're out of business. No one can believe it. I imagine that this will end up in the hands of the Department of Justice for restraint of trade and extortion."

Kianna Bradley

Kianna Bradley writes: well emmett, after all this you and i are gonna become real close!:) lets see, o.k the other anabolic video, i like weird s--- i cant help it!! just remember there are people out there who like that s---! and hell after earl and i breaking up, that was the most action i had received in a while! It wasn't alot of action but hell it was some! heehee :) come on emmett o.k so i'm really a pathetic porn star that doesnt get laid to save her life, but thats o.k i'm learning to get used to my plastic yeast infection heehee lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so if i get a chance to get some ass, wether from girl or guy just deal with it and let me have fun! luv ya mean it!

Emmett responds: Dear Ms. Bradley That's cool. Most men don't believe you can't have a good rapport with a sexy woman without trying to get in their pants or act like a hound dog.

Great Ceaser's ghost! You mean you were with the same Earl (Slate) that was dating Jasmine St. Clair a while ago? If so, then all I can is, the man does have good taste! Is it too personal to ask why you guys broke up?

Hey, I thought porn stars recieved "alot of action"? Your not pathetic, but more on the conservative side in your daily life. You know, I was talking about this same problem in my psych class last semester. Most men when they see an attractive woman (like you) their insecurities become solar. They believe that they can never have a relationship with a beautiful woman or believe that person is already involved in another relationship, so they don't even bother to try. I forgot the term for it, but I believe it's true. In my opinion you never know until you try! I guess if you want to get laid off camera you would have to make yourself less attractive, which would be hard to do in your case.

"Plastic Yeast Infection heehee lol". You blew my mind with that one. Are you actually saying they made a clay-like representation of the common yeast infection? Whooa. What will they think of next? And I used to think the rubber vagina routine I viewed on Real Sex, was off the wall. Anyway, does it feel squishy? I hear that squeezing something squishy and soft is a good sexual stimulant and can relieve a lot tension that's in the hands. Sexual stimuli is a key to a long life. Their is nothing wrong with getting ass! That's the best part!!

I just don't see why Kahn has to direct you and Vermont to a guy's ass instead of a woman. I guess I have no other choice but to deal with it if I want to see you and Vermont in action in some hot oral action. Adios senorita.

Johnny Castano writes Mad Jack: why DIDNT YOU DIE IN THAT HOSPITAL???? YOUR JUST ONE MORE FALON THAT WILL BE GOING BACK TO THE HOLE HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU GET PUNKED IN THE ASS IN STIR // YOU WITH THAT 2INCH PRICK

Emmett replies: Dear Constanzo, I AM NO FAN of Mad Jack, but becareful what you say. God has a way of irony. Especially when it comes to wishing someone dead.

Alicia writes: Luke, I read on a mailing list that Dahlia Grey will no longer be working with Andrew Blake; supposedly, the two have had a falling out. Do you have any way of finding out if this is true?

Luke: It must be true. It was on GeneRoss.com.

Chargebacks

Chargebacks occur when customers complain to their credit card that they were not satisfied with the service or product they were billed for. Instead of complaining to the merchant, the customer goes to his credit card and is usually awarded a chargebacks. Chargebacks are the curse of porn webmasters and high chargeback rates attract the ire of credit card companies like Master Card.

Writes porner Colin from Wasteland on Netpond: Below is an announcement that went out over the past few days to merchant banks and billing companies regarding master card's new chargeback threshold policy effective march 1st. this, unfortunately, effects all merchant banks, merchant account holders, billing companies and anyone else processing master card as a subscription option. if you would like any more info, feel free to e-mail me, but at the moment this is a "done deal" which is going to take a bit of fancy footwork on all of our parts to deal with the ramifications. also, please don't yell at me for being the bearer of bad news. i just pass it along for your benefit. thanks, colin at wasteland

MasterCard International has announced a new chargeback reduction program to go into effect March 1, 2000. Following are the relevant points. If a merchant engages in electronic commerce transactions or provides services using MCC 4816 or MCC 5967 and has a 1% or higher ratio of chargeback transactions to total sales transactions or a 2.5% or higher ratio of chargeback dollar volume to interchange sales volume in each month for two consecutive months, then MasterCard may, at its sole discretion declare the merchant an excessive chargeback special electronic commerce/computer network/inbound telemarketing merchant. If in the opinion of MasterCard, the merchant is issuing credits as a substitute for chargebacks to avoid the applicability of this section, then MasterCard may treat the credits as chargebacks to compute the applicable percentages. In addition, MasterCard may assess the acquirer $15.00 for each credit processed.

Viking responds: Stop accepting new members who uses MC. Still do the MC rebilling for the next 3 months. New members will have used Visa or another CC and will not be effected by these new rules + the MC members database will be as small as possible, so if your MC account is closed then it wonīt hurt as much. Ofcourse you could also try and keep your chargeback under 1%, however with the new credit rules (where a credit could be counted as a chargeback), then it is almost impossible to keep under 1%. That rule is just to open - could be used by any bank to close any account. I donīt think MasterCard will change their new rules, if merchants try to pressure them. However if there is put pressure on the banks, then it might just be possible to find a solution. Banks could loose alot of business if merchants have to close. They do not only stand to loose the CC fees, but also all of the other business merchants do at banks (loans, investments, money transactions etc.) + some merchants/employees might have to go bankrupt, which is also bad business for banks.

Jim writes: I'm back from LA. Too bad I couldn't say hi to you in person when I was out. Guess you're pretty strict about jewish rules. Well, I checked out Hustler Hollywood. Neat place, like Border's combined with the merchandise section of a Hard Rock Cafe with a dash of adult shop thrown in. I didn't see any anti-Luke stuff anywhere. However, their book area has just about every sex-related book in print on the shelf except "History of X" so that speaks of some sort of anti-Luke bias. Maybe it's because Luke considers himself "anti-porn". If so there's never been a proseletyzer better at getting to the unconverted!

Chuck writes: I'm sure you're flooded with stupid questions and responses all the time, so I'd like to thank you for reading this mail. As I'm sure you've guessed, I'm very interested in a career in the porn industry. I reviewed a few of the pointers and more intelligent points on ways to get in (Current HIV-free status, inclusion of a sample video of myself) and I'm sure that I'd be of interest to the right people. I also noted that it would be a smart move to "ride the coattails" of a woman interested in the industry, and I've got that base covered as well. My question is this: Who, in your opinion, would be the most receptive person to contact regarding this, and as for the recommended sample video, is there a particular type of media that's preferable (video, 8mm) in the interest of appearing serious and not too "amateurish?"

Luke: www.worldmodeling.com. Any form of media is fine.
