Luke wrote John Kenney aka Bo Smith of LGIDistributors.com: "I'm hearing that Kendra Jade definitely wants to leave.. Are you going to let her? I hear she won't cooperate on finishing the WHORE movie? I also hear that you are having problems with Jim Gunn and other porners you do websites for? How big is LGI? How many employees do you have? Cynthia: Luke I don't get it. How can this magazine rather hire a girl who is under contract with a major company, and is currently working today over Brandy Alexander, who isn't in porn, and no one but the readers of this site have ever heard of? Shay Sweet Meeting
Sin City owner David Sturman is meeting with his old friend Kevin Beech, Mark Snyder and Shay Sweet Thursday afternoon. Shay wants to leave the company but they do not want to let her go.
Sturman and company eventually tore up the contract in front of Shay's eyes and let her walk out the door.

Penthouse Layoffs
From Mitchell Fink's New York Daily News column today: The ax has fallen at Penthouse magazine. A dozen staffers, including veteran editors Bill Lee and Don Myrus, were let go this week in what sources say is an obvious attempt to streamline the company before the launch of its online gaming site, penthousecasino.com. Lee and Myrus have more than 20 years at the mag. Penthouse rep Jackie Markham confirmed the cuts, saying they were a "combination of retiring people and letting people go." Markham added that the moves were made to consolidate the operation under present Penthouse editor Peter Bloch.

3. Exactly why does NJG want to ban Max Hardcore? As I see it, there are four possible reasons one might want to ban Mr. Hardcore.
First, one might simply be offended with a movie that demeans women.
Second, one might have a concern that the "actress" in a Max Hardcore film is being coerced.
Third, one might suspect that watching Max Hardcore videos will incite the viewer to do bad things.
Fourth, one might fear that Mr. Hardcore, along with others (e.g. Anabolic) will wind up becoming a poster child for a religious right effort to ban pornography. (I suspect that this is not part of NJG's reasoning for opposing Mr. Hardcore.)
There have been a few rants on your web site exscoriating poor Max Hardcore. I am not a fan of Mr. Hardcore by any means. However, the hour is late, there's nothing good on television (the X Files was an old re-run tonight), so what the heck. Here is my defense of Mr. Hardcore's right to produce offensive videos.
BANNING THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE OFFENSIVE
If you want to ban Mr. Hardcore because he is offensive, then you must ask yourself whether, as a general principle, you should be able to ban movies or books simply because they are offensive. I've seen lots of things that are offensive. D.W. Griffith's classic 1915 movie "Birth of a Nation" is offensive, and demeaning to blacks. There are numerous blacks who find Mark Twain's constant use of the word "nigger" in his writings (Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn) to be offensive. Mein Kampf is demeaning to Jews. (Actually, I was also quite offended by Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, which is essentially a racist charicature.) Just about everything Rev. Farrakhan says is offensive to everyone.
If NJG advocates banning Mr. Hardcore because he is offensive, does NJG advocate banning any of the above-listed materials? What is the test by which we decide which "offensive" materials to ban, and which to permit?
Incidentally, if NJG thinks that Mr. Hardcore offends, she must think there is some kind of message in Mr. Hardcore's videos. And if there is such a message, his videos must be some form of speech. And if they are speech, they are entitled to be protected.
BANNING THE VIDEOS IF THE ACTRESS IS COERCED
Regarding the second rationale for banning Max Hardcore videos, I agree that if the "actress" is forced to perform, then that act of coercion is criminal, and can be prosecuted. Does NJG really think that the actress is coerced? What is her basis for believing this? Luke, do you think that the actresses in Mr. Hardcore's cinematic exploits are coerced? [Luke: No.] Has a criminal complaint ever been filed? Has Max Hardcore ever been arrested? Has any actress in any of his film ever alleged that he coerced her to do the things she did?
BANNING THE VIDEOS BECAUSE THEY CAUSE BAD BEHAVIOR
I doubt that Mr. Hardcore's films entice viewers to emulate his behavior. I admit I've seen one or two of his films, and I have never been enticed to go out and buy or use a speculum or shove anybody's head in a toilet. Frankly, his videos are more in the nature of a sexual geek show than erotic. (Actually, a lot of pornography is more in the nature of a sexual geek show than erotica. Of course, there is nothing illegal about geek shows, and in fact, to this very day they still exist in this country, unmolested by the law, but extremely gross.)
During the Nixon administration, there was a presidential study that investigated whether pornography increased the incidence of sexual crimes. Unfortunately for Nixon, he forgot to pack the panel and turn it into a kangaroo court. They concluded that pornography did not lead to an increase in the incidence of sexual crimes.
Reagan and Meese learned from that mistake. Meese assiduously packed the panel, and made sure they came back with the "correct" answer.
My own view is that there are some issues that are so inherently highly politicized that it is virtually impossible to do a rational study to find out the truth that will be recognized as trustworthy. However, I strongly doubt that Mr. Hardcore has influenced many people's behavior.
Let's suppose for sake of argument that Mr. Hardcore does influence peoples' behavior. Query. Suppose I wrote a book, completely dispassionate, in which through force of reason and logic, I advocate that people should go out and kill other people. Nothing sexual. Nothing obscene. Nothing racist. This hypothetical book simply advocates murder. And suppose that for some perverse reason, I was very persuasive, and people were influence by it. Would NJG try to ban my book?
What other books would NJG like to ban on that basis? Quotations From Chairman Mao (the proverbial "little red book")? The little red book clearly influenced millions of people to do very bad things. Mein Kampf? Das Kapital? The Communist Manifesto? Final Exit (the so-called how-to-commit-suicide book)? Doubtless there are lots of books that incite some form of activity that society disapproves of. Are we going to ban those books? If we permit those books to exist, why ban Max Hardcore?
Supposing we decide that Mr. Hardcore was actually influential. Does that mean that there is a "message" in Mr. Hardcore's videos, telling people to behave in a certain way? If there is a "message" in his videos, doesn't that mean that it is a form of speech?
MAX HARDCORE, ANTI-PORN POSTER CHILD
Yup. No doubt about it. Max Hardcore and Anabolic will become poster children for anti-porn types. My guess is that many of today's pornographers have never seen the inside of a jail cell. The present relaxed moral atmosphere in America today is a historical anomaly. In virtually any other era in American history, they would all be hauled off the jail. And there is some possibility that the pendulum will swing back toward conservativism. (I actually doubt it, for reasons that would take too much space to describe.) In any event, I don't think that this is NJG's rationale.
So there we have it.
By the way, I think if you went back about 15 or 20 years, you could find stuff every bit as offensive as old Max. Actually, I'd be interested in hearing Brandy's view on this subject. She always has interesting stuff to say.
