Email Luke

Janine Gossip

XXX writes: Janine started seeing someone at the beginning of last summer after her breakup with Rikki Rachtman. Blinded by her ultimate dream of eventually quitting the adult business, getting married and having more kids, she gave up too much of who she was to this guy. He started controlling her, telling her how to dress, how to cut her hair, how she should live, etc. She disassociated herself from everyone, and stopped making movies and dancing. Jenteal.com runs her fan club and merchandise web site, and Janine broke contract with Jenteal claiming she couldn't look at pictures of herself naked. She started renting a house close to him while she put her empty house up for sale, and she tried to sell her cars. She lived off her savings while trying to liquefy her possessions. He tried to make her believe the adult industry and everything and everyone involved with it (including her friends) were evil and she should have nothing to do with it/them.

After several months with no income, Janine decided to sign for Club Magazine for the CES convention to make some money. Her boyfriend did not at all approve of this, and threatened to break up with her when she insisted on going to the show. She finally came to the realization this person was controlling her life. She had lost sight of who she was, and sacrificed her beliefs and integrity for a man. She went to CES and left the relationship.

Janine is very confused about what she wants to do at this point. She has mixed feelings about where she is going to go from here, but she is in a good frame of mind and she is positive. She plans on dancing again soon, but is still unsure about making movies.

Luke asked Jenteal: "What sort of deal do you have with Janine regarding her fan club? Any other porn stars do you work with?"

Jenteal: "For the past year I have been running Janine's fan club and merchandise site. I do all the promotion and fullfillment (the gruntwork) and she signs the merchandise and writes letters to her fans. Janine and I are putting extra focus into her merchandise site and fan club right now, since she had taken some time away from it. She is very dedicated to her fans and wants to keep them happy. I am going to continue to run her fan club and I am going to teach her the process. I get the feeling she wants to eventually do it on her own, which is great for her and her fans. I think she will be good at it, and I am glad to help her out. I also work with Dyanna and Kobe Tai on their web sites and fan clubs, as well as running my own.

Luke: "Are you trying to draw Janine back into an industry that she wants to leave?"

Jenteal: "I am not sure she wants to leave the industry, and I don't think she is sure either. She has always enjoyed her work, but judgements and influence from people outside the industry can be harsh. It doesn't make any difference to me if Janine is a part of the industry or not. Her decision should be her own, without the influence of other people in her life. She is my friend regardless of what she does."

Emmett writes: What's wrong with Rikki Ratchman persuading Janine to quit porn and learning how to dress? If Janine said that she wanted to leave pornography, settle down, and have more kids, then Racthman has the right Idea. If your going to leave porn your attire must change. You cannot dress slutty and erotic anymore if you plan to have a normal life. I think that she should cut her hair for a while so other people would not recognize her in public. Now "XXX"could be right, perhaps Ratchman is obsessively possessive, but from XXX's perspective, I still do not see how this warrants him as to be too be sadistically controlling.

If a person decides to leave porn then that person has to do it all the way and that individual is going to need some strong support. In order to move on she has alienate her friends, stop dancing, and making movies. Pornography is extremely alluring, to just walk away from it is nearly impossible. I believe Ratchman would have had better success if he went slower in his method of conversion.

The adult industry is pure evil Triple X, how can you believe that it is not? Women like Jenteal are not the evil kind to murder Janine but they are the evil kind to "help" lead the rest of Janine's life to no where. If porn star is having doubts to remain in the industry then we should encourage them to leave. The porn industry is not a life time career. Just as Brooke Ashley, Tricia Devereaux, and Nikki Lae.

Pornography is extremely alluring, to just walk away from it is nearly impossible. Janine is one of the few visionaries who tries to envision their future by their current state of being. She is knows that cannot be in pornography forever, especially if she wants kids and wants to get married. She's in a dilemma wrapped in fear.

Instead of trying to persuade Janine into coming back to the porn ring, you and Jenteal should help her in the opposite way. You would be saving her life. I believe that leaving the industry is a very scary thing to do if you wrapped you life in it. Janine is incredibly sexy and smart. I just hope she becomes smart enough to leave the dismal land of pornography. In any case whatever you decide Janine, some of your enlightened fans are with you.

Jenteal responds: "Luke, I think Emmett needs to re-read your post about Janine. You wrote that her boyfriend AFTER Rikki is the one who tried to control her, not Rikki. I believe Emmett's intentions are good ones, but I don't think people should comment on a situation or place judgement if they cannot even get the facts straight. Otherwise they will just sound like a moron. Emmett doesn't know me, or my relationship with Janine. How can he possibly tell me what I (or you, Luke, for that matter) "should" do in regards to Janine. As her friend, my only responsibility is to support whatever decisions she makes and hope her choices make her happy."

Frank: I watch my share of porn and what adults do is there own business. But people who think porn does no damage to the actors are not looking for the truth. There is no way a woman can go f--- guy after guy without suffering some physical or emotional harm. Like I said before adults can do what the want.But if the porn industry were honest the would realize that a lot of men and woman are harmed from being in porn.

Emmett writes: Why is it every time I turn around I am always hearing and reading from a porn star that, "If you love me, then you should support me." IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! Then we might as well say if a parent who has a child that is a drug addict, alcoholic, or even suicidal; that parent should just support their child in what their kid is doing if they truly loved him or her. "If you love me then you will try your best to dissuade and prevent me from doing anything harmful to myself or others." That is the motto they should be using.

People who are bulimic would be happy if know one would say anything about them vomiting and weighing 92 pounds. But Jenteal, XXX, and millions of other people would deem it unfriendly not to support their friend in bulimia. Thus the bulimic dies. But that's okay everybody! As long as the bulimic friends supported her then their nothing to frown about. WRONG!

Ms. Jenteal is right, I do know her to make an arrogant comment like I mentioned above to her, but it still does not mean that I am wrong. Porn is straight up evil, nasty, vulgar, you name it, that's what it is. To call it the opposite is inadvertently admitting insanity. Everyone who is associated with it, including me, is not good or righteous. If someone is in turmoil about leaving that dastardly world then we should support them out of the business and see if we can find them some honest work (That is of course if they are willing). Yes, Janine's life is not my business, but if someone who was about to commit suicide and then debated about it to world, I would say something...wouldn't you? As for the mix...

I am sorry for the blunder guy. I'll try not to let hit happen again. Thanks for the correction Jenteal (honestly I do), but the meaning still hold the same. Help lead your friends and loved down the right path, even if it means them yelling or disassociating themselves from you. If they still don't want to listen then still try to remain their friend, but do not let them know for an instant that you concur in what they are doing, and then pray that they do the right thing. That's all that I am saying.

Chloe - Why Can't We All Get Along?

Chloe writes: Hey LukeMan, I don't get the chance to read your site very often, as I'm a workaholic, but today when I went back to read and catch up, I was really bummed out by the animosity between certain people within this industry. I've been involved in this industry for a little over four years, and I try to get along with everyone, and it's really not that hard to do. So I can't understand why so many people find it so hard to be nice to one another, after all, we're all f---ing each other, and working for each other, and working WITH each other...so why make it such an ugly place to be?

The feud between Sharon Mitchell and Rob Spallone is probably the most disturbing to me, because I know and like both of them. I work the mobile unit at AIM, and I feel like I'm doing a good thing by getting to people for their blood draws if they can't make it to the clinic of their choice. The important thing is to make sure we've all got our tests up to date, so who cares where people go to get them done? I like being of service to my friends, and helping them keep their tests up to date, and that's why I do the mobile draws. It simply makes me feel good to see my friends in this industry keeping themselves as safe as can be expected given the circumstances of this crazy industry. I hope someday that we can all put our differences aside and start working together to make this a better industry to be a part of. Prometheus Books Critic Pat Riley

Pat Riley's latest book, "The X-Rated Videotape Guide VIII" is in stores now. Luke just got a copy in the mail. It's vintage Riley. He writes in his introduction:

The industry continues to dwell at the bottom of society's cesspool serving the gullible and easily aroused teenage and early-twenties male and the older misogynist with a plethora of mechanical and raincoater sex scenes loosely assembled onto long boring tapes. Anals, DPs, and facials are so common that if porno tapes are a reflection of society's sexual habits, on emust question the future viability of theh uman race...

Debutante tapes sometimes have the infrequent new girl who made a wrong turn at the agent's office and innocently thinks that she should be enjoying the sex but both Ed Powers and Randy West are getting very hard to watch due primarily to their advanced age.

Pure amateur suffers from the phenomenon of ugly forty-plus-year-olds wanting to show us their sexual activities and because of the lack of widespread distribution, finding the exception of the cute young couple is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.

Luke F-rd's book, A History of X...finally made it to the bookstores in mid-1999. It offers some interesting insights into the making of the industry and takes some controversial positions on pornograpraphic movies generally. Well worth a read but if you want the latest gossip you really have to take the plunge and become internet equipped. His website at www.l-keford.com has a daily journal of industry minutiae together with expanded information about the past.

No PC rubbish, or as one person pointed out, kindness here [in the body of Riley's reviews]. Every girl in every movie should be young, fresh, pretty, and have a great body and nice personality; if she doesn't, why is she cluttering up my TV screen?

Riley reviews the 16th Annual Adult Video News Awards (1999 edition): "It's not the Oscars but they seem to be coming closer in quality and that's probably an insult to the Oscars more than praise for the AVN ceremony. The girls are dressed to the nines with trowel-level makeup and even the ones who look OK in their movies look whorish - and definitely trailer park trash - and are mostly unrecognizable. Alisha [Klass]... makes a poor impression with a foul mouth and futile attempts to arouse the audience. The parolees range from the over-dressed to the I-just-left-the-set-and-haven't-had-time-to-change with lots of them sounding inebriated."

Riley gives 18 and Nasty 6 and 7 a GOOD rating, largely based on TT Boy's ability to develop rapport with the girls in his interview segments before he screws them.

As for #7: "Sound is terrible, camerawork stinks, sets are primitive, interviews are inept, the girls don't wear makeup, and reproduction is just passable..."

As for Kris Kramski's film An American Girl In Paris: "Mr Kramski, previously responsible for the early Sexhibition series and such movies as Lisa and Models, seems to have decided that with Cape Sin and this movie he can just rest on his laurels and turn out glossy near-plotless efforts. Well, since Mr. Kramski's movies have been distributed by Sin City, the home of what must be the worst duplication plant in the porn business, the "glossy" is not really true."

A Sin City source: "This Pat Riley has way too much time on his hands. Sin City's duplication was pretty bad at one point but that was rectified over 2 yrs ago. This all goes to show that you can't please everyone. And right again, General Video will not sell any rough sex type of title no matter how or why the creation of such crap is rationalized. If some person of diminished capacity asks to be hit on the head with a baseball bat, should someone fulfill that desire? One has to make moral and societal judgements when it comes to this type of behavior."

Riley disses James DiGiorgio's Anal Fixation: "One could die of boredom watching VCA's attempts to appeal to the raincoater. This one is just five anal scenes with no set-up - oh, the girl does express her desire for anal sex to the camera..."

Riley on Back Seat Driver from Toxxxic Ent: "..wordless, emotionless, uninteresting, and and unerotica."

Jim Holliday's Brown Eyed Blondes: "The annoying thing about this movie is of course Jim Holliday and his pompous ranting about various aspects of the music industry which goes on forever. Jim, who cares?"

Jim Gunn's Canadian Stripper Search 2: "Performance-wise none of the scenes are any more than hookers going through the motions."

Canadian Stripper Search 4: "Since we all know that North of the US/Canadian border is one big sheet of ice and that apart from fishing through that ice and a few factories of US subsidiaries, nothing ever goes on in Canada one wonders why they have so many nudie bars?"

Riley gives Bryan Lambert's Carolina Girls from Center Stage Productions a GOOD rating. He also gives numerous Good ratings to Ed Powers Dirty Debutantes series and Joey Silvera's Fashion Sluts.

Fade To Black 2: "Vivid shoots porno movies so that with a trivial amount of editing the naughty stuff can be removed and "Presto!" they have a cable movie... Metro shoots stuff that with a trivial amount of editing...they have a compilation."

Bag Ladies: "Johnny Toxic...looks like someone you would cross the road to avoid for fear that a gust of wind might blow a fatal disease in your direction."

Farmers Daughters Do Hollywood. "Jerome Tanner is back. He's the guy who gave you the start of the special effects back in the mid-eighties, a tradition today carried on by such people as Robert Black. Like lots of the porno people his efforts in the real world didn't pay off and he returned to an industry where the struggle was less intense. Pity, because if this movie is any example of his abilities, he's just going to be another of the talentless hacks who competes to produce insomnia remedies."

Tabitha Steven's f--- 'Em All. "Another vapid female finds the record button and confirms the suspicion that she's brain dead. Hopeless. Tabitha responds to fan mail and acts out the suggestions from pathetic losers who need a life."

Little White Chicks...Big Black Monster Dick. "If you're black and you get off on the idea of "ripping the white bitches open" the movie will provide some satisfaction... The idea of the uncontrollable black male rapist seems to be catering too much to the real black male viewer who has a serious chip on his shoulder that those white bitches should be made to pay.

Pat Riley writes on RAME: I want them [girls] so they can sit on my lap and not crush me, so I can actually carry them, and so I can turn them over...and I suppose so I can actually hold them down if they become too bolshie. I should also point out I'm 5'9" and about 160lbs so a girl of 5'11" (high heels would make her 6'3"!) would tower over me (and might be able to punch me out ). Smallness (or petite-ness) is a characteristic of youth, too.

...There are three types of choices here: Things I like and in a porno sense consider potentially erotic; things I feel are neutral and are never erotic for me; and things that are not only never erotic but are repellent. The examples you give are all in the neutral category. To take the "cum on the feet" example, I personally agree and can't understand how anyone can see this as erotic but I don't see any wider societal implication. It's your problem and only yours if you like this sort of thing. Things that are repellent however present other problems for the microcosms of society that are the porn industry and porn consumer and even for society as a whole. They are no longer just a meaningless "choice".

...Let's rephrase Ridley's statement as: "I know there are sick bitches out there who get off on this s--- but the porno industry shouldn't be pandering to their twisted desires." or "When I pick up a tape in the video store I don't expect it to contain this sort of thing, just as I wouldn't expect to see copulation in a Disney movie (whether I read the box thoroughly or not)."

PR: Ah, ah, ah. Naughty, naughty. As you well know twofisted, the complaint is not with the injury to the performers (although some people seem to take that tack) but with the more serious question of the sense/direction of the movie and the consequences of that.

...Zane must have finally heard the disparaging remarks about their couch. In Cherry Poppers (The College Years) #12 the old couch has disappeared and there are four different couches used, one for each scene. Not that it makes the quality of the movie any better!

Jeff writes on RAME: Pat Riley likes young women who are ready to bear children. Once they have born a child, they quickly lose his interest, since their singular purpose has been more or less fulfilled. (I hope I am characterizing this correctly.)

In this manner, Mr. Riley also pulls no punches. His Star Index books are sometimes considered harsh because he calls 'em as he sees 'em; regardless of the perceptions of the rest of the world. So, Riley digs into Cinnamon, er Sinnamon, because she doesn't do much besides prattle back the "normal pornstar interview fodder" and he also rips on Mr. Web Review because from where he sits it seems like Mr. Web Review has not met a porn movie or pornstar he hasn't liked -- when in reality most porn sucks hard and does not deserve glowing reviews it gets from some reviewers and most pornstars are far more haggard than their on- camera appearances allow them to be.

Riley's detractors don't like him because he states such things and there's no changing his mind. So people tend to get frustrated at his hardline stance and criteria for feminine beauty. Next time in you're in your local Barnes & Noble browse thru one of his books and you'll be able to make your own judgments. While I don't always agree with his assessments of beauty, I often find his candor refreshing.

Goddess writes: If the people in the X biz are so revolting to Riley, why does he continue to earn his money from them? He must be some sort of masochist to be watching videos of all these uglee (his opinion, NOT MINE) people. And let's not even get into how disgusting and revolting it probably is for him to cash all those paychecks from his publishers. Eeeww.

Becky Carols writes on RAME: This is how Riley angers and humors us all. Pat thinks Marilyn Monroe's a fat pig. His ideal woman is that walking skeleton Alley McBulimic. I've never bought any of his books since they're written solely for porn addicts but, I hear they're good sources for smut info. However, since Pat hates girls with big breasts and round, jiggly asses (which is what the vast majority of guys lust after) he should stop giving us lists of anorexic girls in the jizz biz to keep an eye out for.

That being said, I'm sure Pat will agree with me when I say porn girls shouldn't even talk. That's not what they're paid to do. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to have sex in front of a camera. Most of these girls don't even have high school diplomas. If they did, they would have real jobs. Do a search on intellects such as Jenteal, Heaven Leigh, and Serenity for the proof. There are very rare exceptions to this rule though. Brandy Alexandre's a high school dropout but she's pretty smart. So are Nina Hartley, Candida Royalle, Gloria Leonard, Sharon Mitchell, and Tiffany Million.

Luke Gets Mail

Nita Cherry writes: Luke.... I have been enjoying your column for some time now. I must admit, some days it just makes me crazy - reading about this person or that one.. I have seen all those movies! I am not denying that I have an intrest in porn today. I do. I just have one simple question. Where is this voice of reason I have heard so much about.
