Larry, you are probably thinking of Dog Walker, one of Leslie’s best movies. I thought Gillis was excellent in Curse of the Catwoman as well, which is also up there in Leslie’s catalogue.

What I remember most about Jamie was that he was a good actor. I Didn’t talk to him because I’m not usually very talkative in the first place, plus he seemed a bit aloof, in his own world like he was preparing for his acting bit. He was introducing someone to Vicca, who played a human sex toy, who I worked with along with Sean Rider and J.J. Michaels. It was a condom scene and several times while I was fucking Vicca the condom broke and she started getting pissed as if I was somehow able to break it on purpose. It was for Michael Ninn and us three guys were playing funny looking Japanese camera guys with fake teeth and glasses, and we all almost looked exactely alike with all the garb, and being the same height. I shot for Jamie back when I was 19 years old. It the girty Gillis line or something like that and he directed it. He was a strange man I can say that. He wanted everyone there for all these scenes being shot that day for some reason. He treated me fairly and that’s about all I can of my experience with him.
I do remember him getting a huge hard-on from a girl fucking a guy’s ass with a dildo. He was REALLY into that and was more vocal about that than any other scene he shot that day.

Well Jeremy, your scene was memorably oddball entertaining but how much Ninn put into the film creatively with the story and with the effects was and still is amazing. Ron Jeremy and Sharon Kane were funny, Gillis was dark and ominous as ever. What also made it cool was that Ninn paid respect to the original New Wave Hookers which is a classic, and he included some old footage from that movie in this one. Part 5 is entertaining apart from the sex scenes, which is rare for porn, even though they were all pretty intense.

The best example is his infamous series On the Prowl: In late 80’s/early 90’s and during the height of HIV epidemic, he decided to cruise the streets and pick up random bums and crack heads to fuck performers on camera. Clearly a very bad decision for obvious reasons. That, and of course his obsession with shoving stuff up his ass. Perhaps Christian XXX can stop by and elaborate us on that subject further. He’s an experienced fellow.
Well, I’m glad, at least there’s no disagreement that the good, old fashion concept of “pervert” has become perverted in today’s times.

Colonel, I’d suggest checking out those movies you refer to again, they are some of my favorite older videos (as opposed to films). The guys were not bums or crackheads, just average joes, it’s pretty clear. A couple of guys were in the military, a couple of others were hitting clubs looking to score when Jamie came accross them. Larry is right about the one scene however in which Jamie himself does a scene in a dark alley with what appears to be a street whore. Very edgy and entertaining.
President my friend, there were all kinds of average Joes in On the Prowl series, and they had one thing in common: They all were random, untested guys fucking porn girls on camera during the height of HIV epidemic. I understand Jamie Gillis was trying to push the envelope and do something different and edgy. However, the question is to what extent the envelope can be pushed and at what cost? Personally, I can never convince myself to do something like that and gamble with people’s livelihood and safety for the sake of shooting a porn scene. Everything else he did might be at least justifiable, but not that one.
In any case and as you mentioned earlier, Jamie Gillis was a pioneer in the adult industry, and left a considerable influence on porn in general.
2010: A Space Odyssey II brings back a lot of memories. In the early 80’s I was stuck on 12 hour mid shifts and I read the short version of Arthur C. Clarkes’ 2010 in Playboy, which led me to buy the novel, which was fantastic. This led me to buy the first 2001 book, originally titled The Sentinel which later became the seminal movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. So I then watched the movie and understood it for the first time. It was fantastic. Trust me on this one, if you ever want to understand the first 2001 movie, read the book first..and it’s a short read!
Then, in 1984 the movie sequel was released. It was somewhat of a disappointment especially with Roy Schieder phoning it in.
Be that as it may I’m forever thankful to A.C. Clarke for helping me survive those god awful boring 12 hour shifts, may he rest in peace.

Other than Stagliano’s work from the same time period, my two favorite series’ from the late 80’s-1990’s are On The Prowl and The Streets of New York. I haven’t seen the creativity, effort, fun and originality matched in anything since. Maybe I’m just not looking in the right places, I don’t know. Porn could really use more guys like John Stagliano, Jamie Gillis and Rick Savage.
Gillis was truly the Pervert’s pervert. Rest in peace.

Gillis, like Stagliano, got “beyond the pale” when it came to perversion and sexuality. Stagliano’s was more of a death wish of course. Gillis’ stuff became that of someone that needed harder and harder stuff to enjoy sex. Jerry Butler had a chance to become someone like that but he got lost in drugs. May be why Silvera is into filming trannies and whatever Rocco is doing today. I thought for a while that Lockwood was headed that way til it became evident he needed to do anything for money. Wonder what Fred Lincoln has to say about Jaime.
